Horrible - Never EVER again - See photos. Dropped off white shirts and trousers for laundry and starch. Got ALL back half-assed done. One of the pant leg crease is completely off. Now two creases, one leg. In fact, it's pathetic. French cuffs are a disaster. See photos. I needed the shirts for a black tie event. I'm a long time customer and recently had a very negative experience with Barry Regent. A new dress was delivered for first time cleaning and was returned significantly damaged. Representative claimed no responsibility and said it was damaged from somebody ironing it. Ridiculous, I don't even own an iron. They happily accept your money but dodge responsibility. read more

Receiving my cleaned garments back from BRC is like opening a gift! The care they take in returning your clothing is above anything I've ever experienced. A merino wool cardigan was on a padded wire hangar and tissue was placed along the entirety of the sleeves to retain their shape. The item looked BRAND NEW! Today I picked up a sweater and it was neatly draped over a hangar, completely sealed in a plastic bag. I'm grateful they're at the end of my block but I'd travel for them to take care of garments. I don't think they're overpriced...I think you get what you pay for...quality dry cleaning! read more

I'd been avoiding this place for a while. The yo-yo reviews, rumors of high prices and story of a porn star patronizing the business (what if... that stuff... gets on my clothes?) scared me away. But after years of going with cheap(er) cleaners and being dismayed at the product, I had to see if paying some extra moolah was worth it. And, you know what? It was. It's never fun paying more money for something that you can get cheaper but in certain circumstances, it's worth it. The dentist. Yes. Doctors. Uh huh. Hotels. Usually. I'm going to have to add dry cleaners to this list. I have spent years going to area dry cleaners, looking for a bargain, only to find shirts that are still dirty and prices that seem to change as the wind blows. With BRC, I get consistent pricing, clean clothes (imagine that), a professional atmosphere (they have this down to a science: step up, drop the clothes, give instructions, get your PRINTED ticket, get out), and the prices aren't as shocking as I would believe having read some of the reviews (granted, I am getting gently worn standard pieces cleaned but nothing I have paid has given me the vapors). BRC, keep cleaning my clothes well and in a reasonable amount of time, and we'll stay cool. Please don't make me rue this day. kthxbye. read more

I was thinking to myself, boy wouldn't it be great if Groupon had a dry cleaning deal for once, that would be useful! [Enter Barry Regent]. Literally a day later, and I bought said Groupon. I probably should've looked into the cost of this cleaners before doing so, it was definitely not worthwhile. I understand dry cleaning is expensive, but this was a whole different ball game for me (I'm used to places like DryClean Direct and CD One Price). $7.50 for pants or so, $16 for suits, but the dress I brought it was apparently going to be $22. Only they couldn't tell me for certain, I had to wait until I picked it up to figure out how much they were going to charge. Ending up costing $25. (Considering the dress only cost me $30 at an outlet, I was contemplating elaborate schemes to abandon it there should it turn out to be more than the $22.) All in all, clothes are clean, no complaints there. Though they did leave me a note telling me that for that $22 they couldn't adequately clean the dress. Service was borderline rude; despite bringing in some dress shirts they told me they would wash them rather than dry clean them if I left them there (and I couldn't persuade them to let their tailors help me out with a small measurement issue I had. "Store policy"). Finally, dropped off clothes before the time on their website, (and on-site cleaning), but no later day service as promised online. read more

I thought I'd try Barry Regent to get a shirt's sleeves altered. I knew they'd be pricey but was willing to try them again. $25 to get cuffs moved an inch up on a shirt? Grossly overpriced. I went to several drycleaners to price match their charges for altering sleeve lengths, and Barry Regent was the second highest of them all. For a neighborhood cleaners, they charge an arm and a leg for everything, whether it's simple laundry services or alterations. The folks who helped me behind the counter were pleasant, but there are ample drycleaners around the area that I won't have to go to Barry Regent again. read more

I know the difference between quality work and $2.25/every piece work. If I get a stain on something that I think I should just toss.. I take it to BR and they get out the stain. My clothes are never pressed "hard" like the other cleaners. I live in a high rise which has an on-site cleaners yet I go out of my way to take my clothes to BR. Barry Regent is a bit more expensive but they do Quality work. If you care about your clothes which can be an investment, take them to Barry Regent!! One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. Brought in a new Restoration Hardware duvet cover as well as a brand new custom dress shirt to be dry cleaned. When we received the dress shirt back it had an orange stain on the shoulder that was not there when my wife dropped it off, and the comforter had a staple in it. When my wife brought in the ruined and soiled items and confronted the manager today about them, he completely denied fault and accused her of stapling the duvet cover herself, and previously soiling the shirt. The manager screamed belligerently at my wife in front of several other customers and she was completely mortified and in tears. Barry-Regent not only ruined our duvet cover, and my dress shirt, but they had the audacity to publicly shame and embarrass my wife while they were at it. Unless you want your items to be ruined and then be publicly shamed by their arrogant manager, I recommend using a different dry cleaner. This is the best cleaners I've experienced in Chicago. They are not a "discount" business, but rather a fine, established merchant whose work speaks for itself. Recently I brought a number of shirts needing minor repair: buttons, loose stitching, etc. The business executed the tasks, cleaned the clothing in a timely manner. Their cleaning and really restoration on an expensive pair of linen slacks was extraordinary. The slacks were badly wine and water stained. I was going to toss them. But Barry-Regent took the time and displayed the craftsmanship of the art of cleaning and reconditioning it. I will gladly drive from Hyde Park to use their services for my linens, silks or any other expensive articles. They earned my trust unlike ANY other cleaner. If you're convinced that it's irreparably damaged try this company before you give give up hope. read more

This is the most expensive dry-cleaner I have ever been to. Even with a Groupon, I still owed $25 on four average pieces! The cleaning was done the same as other cleaners just much slower. I couldn't get a quick turn around which was disappointing for supposedly being the "best rated." More over, this place stuffs everything with extra tissue paper - an environmentalist's nightmare. I am sad to see that this place has only 3.5 stars in aggregate. I use three drycleaners depending on what I am having cleaned. Barry Regent is my go-to, top-notch, high end cleaner. I use them for things I have made that need a final pressing, things that need some love and are worth a mint, and generally delicate things that I wouldn't trust to any other business. Here is the kind of stuff I take/have taken to BR: -Clothing I have made that is difficult to clean or press. They are used to any number of weird constructions and I never get a gown back with weird creases or pressing lines. -Antique clothing. I have few pairs of pants that my grandpa had made in the late 1920s. Wool pants + Chicago winter = at least two cleanings a year and they still look GREAT. -Vintage/antique suits. This is the only place in the city I would bring my late 1950s or early 1960s suits. There is one black suit that has turned out to be my default black suit. It is early 1960s Givenchy and fits me so well I want to live in it. Barry Regent has cleaned it any number of times and it always looks like has just come from the store - not bad for something going on 60 years old. Ditto for a white silk and linen dinner jacket and pants from the early 1930s. PERFECT. Aside from the excellent cleaning, you get (or at least I have gotten) really good service. Three separate times I have taken suits or coats to them with little cosmetic problems (loose buttons, lining seams coming apart, &c.). I didn't mention it at the time because I just figured I would have one of my girls at the workroom do it when I got it back. Well get this: Not only did my clothes come back cleaned, but all of the problems had been taken care of. Without my asking, without extra charges added. Now it hasn't happened every time, but come on. So go here if you have nice things or at least have things you want to last a while. So worth the money. read more

Note: This is a review for their alterations department. I had a beloved winter coat whose lining was falling apart. Rather than buy a new coat, I decided to buy some fabric and commission a new lining. I took the coat to Barry Regent and they quoted me a price. It was not inexpensive, but it was still cheaper than replacing the coat. The seamstress came out to consult with exactly what I wanted. She said she could have it done in two weeks. Two weeks later, I went to pick it up and was thrilled with the outcome! The original lining had a ribbon running across the waist and ruffles at the bottom. The seamstress had replicated it perfectly! It was top-quality work and well worth the slightly high price tag. Will definitely take my future alterations here. read more

They really do a nice job of cleaning clothes, and can have it done relatively quicky if you just ask. I really love that they put tissue in your suit jacket sleeves to maintain the shape. I also feel like the prices are pretty good. And on more than one occasion, they've repaired something without request and without charge. (A loop on a dress that had come undone...) I deducted ONE star because on several occasions, they made me feel ashamed that I had cat hair stuck to my black suit pants (HELLO, I have a LONG-haired cat, it's inevitable) and they made a bit deal about charging me for the brushing...unnecessary. I'd give this place 5 stars, but it's not easy on the wallet. That being said, I still go here when I need any of my better clothes cleaned, and that's because they do a phenomenal job. Ivory pants got splattered with mud? No problem. Red wine on my white jacket? Sure, they can probably get that out. You can usually find coupons in the nieghborhood mailer packets, which are worth using. Definitely give it a try - I can guarantee you'll be pleased with the results, and given how many recognitions they've received, it seems they can guarantee it too. read more

This is a great cleaners. They removed a very scary black ink stain from my bright yellow silk top! I had absolutely no hope. Especially since I made it worse by blotting/rubbing it with water. Never do that. But if you do, Paul will save you. He worked on my stain by hand as promised and restored my garment perfectly! No sign of a struggle. The price was reasonable as well. read more

More of a comparison than anything else here. Just had my down jacket dry cleaned at a store half a mile away for $15. The work was impeccable. Barry regent wants $31.50 for the same thing done and one full week. I had several jackets for dry clean. Saved $100+ by going to a nearby store. I guess if you want to overpay for the sake of overpaying, do it. Their hemming charge seems to be more reasonable, probably just 20% more than competitors instead of 100% more. read more

There are a few things I refuse to have more than one of in this life. My hair stylist, my eyebrow lady, my barista, and my trusty cleaners. I am hardly ever in need of going to the cleaners but when I do, I make sure that I take all of my things to Barry Regent. I have gone through it all at one time or another. I had a last minute pressing situation where I needed my very delicate gown pressed ASAP and it was ready to go in less than 5 minutes! I had two pairs of jeans that I wanted more of a skinny leg on and the seamstress had both pairs ready in less than 2 weeks. I managed to get foundation on my tan blouse and without a doubt they were able to remove it without discoloration to the material. The three managers are complete life savers at BRC. Paul, Q, and Rich always tackle my problems and give great customer service as well as the friendly counter employees. Nothing bad to say about BRC, you pay for quality! I dropped off one shirt and suit jacket to get cleaned for a wedding. I returned two days later to pick them up on my way to work. I give one of the people working behind the counter my slips and he goes to retrieve the clothes. It took longer than I was expecting and the worker came back several times to check the computer and eventually brought another man over (maybe a manager?). Eventually they tell me that my shirt has been misfiled and ask for a description. No apology or anything. I was now running late for work and had to leave. I had to tell them to call me if they found my shirt. Awful customer service. I hope they find my shirt, but now I need to buy another one for the wedding. So in short, don't come here unless you are looking for someone to lose your clothes and act like it's not a big deal. read more

$54 and 2 weeks later, I am able to give my 2 cents on this place. Honestly, I probably never would have come here had it not been for the $10 coupon they mailed me as a welcome to the gayborhood. Why would I walk 2 blocks to get my clothes dry cleaned when I have about 4 places to pick from less than a block from my place? Jeesh, send a girl a coupon and she'll walk anywhere. I have no shame, WHAT. Anyhoo, I took in a suit and a cardigan to be cleaned, and a pair of pants and a pair of jeans to be hemmed. It took 2 weeks for all of that, which just seemed like an insanely long time. So how did they do? Fine, I guess. But that's the thing, it was just fine. Nothing that wow-ed me and will make me wait 2 weeks and pay $54 ($44 after coupon) to have them do work for me again. There are other places that do the same quality work in a quicker turnaround and at a lower price. As we speak I'm having another place hem some pants for me (I know, go ahead and mock my short legs) and she quoted me $20 and 3 days. And this is such a small thing (or maybe not), but it is hotter than hell's waiting room in here. A) I have no idea how their employees can stand it and B) I was in here maybe 3 or 4 minutes and I wanted to puke from the heat. It's not just hot, it's that special kind of suffocating hot. Finding a good tailor in a neighborhood full of them is harder than you'd think. I've tried them all. One sewed heart-shaped black buttons on a pink coat; one stained a vintage dress; yet another looked at some alterations I needed and shook her head. Not Barry Regent. At BRC, the head seam (stress?) looked at my dress, a complicated silk and crochet impulse purchase from across the street (it was too large but it's cute) and told me what she could do for less money. She took what could have been a useless dress (couldn't return, didn't try on as is my way) and made it perfection. It can't be easy to sew crochet and make it look seamless. Everything is done in-house, including cleaning, and the alterations were only $17! I didn't expect that. It's really hot in there, though. I feel sorry for the alterations crew. read more

It wasn't the holidays, but I suspect a lot of people were busying them with Yelp or Groupon vouchers. I'm going to have to be the voice of dissent, I just do not like Barry Cleaners! In my quest to find a reliable dry cleaner, I tried Barry since several friends in the area told me it was excellent. It's more expensive than other places, which would be fine, however I just don't see what the hype was. My pants were great, pressed and lovely, however, two wool sweaters still had little stains on the sleeve and a dress came back wrinkled. On top of that, my down jacket had suddenly developed a HOLE right in front and the zipper pulley had been snapped off. They did the typical, oh you dropped it off to us that way (clearly not, I was actually wearing the jacket at the time) and that was that, full charge for damaged clothing! I am perplexed by these low ratings on yelp. Yes, dry cleaning is not cheap. But I don't mind the pricing if the quality and service are good. I only did delivery here because I don't have time to go and drop off during the weekday. I've used this place twice so far: once to have a pair of jeans altered, and once to have a pair of suits dry cleaned. They did a great job on the pants. The original hem was excellent, and they fit perfectly now. It'll cost $25 a pop to have them done, but there are coupons all over the place that can knock that down quite a bit. I was quoted a week, and they were ready on time. Their dry cleaning isn't shabby either. You could do a lot worse, and for something as important as a suit, I'll pay a little extra for the quality. Also, when they mess up, they TRY TO CHARGE YOU, THE CUSTOMER, for the fix. nononononono...... We had to bargain with them to try getting out a stain, and eventually got the double charge lifted. I've only used this place for my suede comforter, which my cat had ruined twice. Both times they were able to take the smell out. I was very impressed! I agree with everyone who said it's not easy on the wallet, but forking over 30 bucks is much better than having to buy a new comforter. read more

I will admit it, I'm one of those people who went to BR because of the groupon. But groupon or not it, their services far exceeded my expectations. I brought in my 3 year old down winter coat because it was in the worst shape you have ever seen. The inside lining was all ripped up, the outside armpit of one of the sleeves had a hole and feathers were escaping, the buttons for the hood were literally hanging on by a thread and I asked BR to fix all of this. I love this coat and it is worth it to have it repaired vs going out and buying a new one. When they were inspecting the coat I got the feeling that the outlook was grim, they were discussing replacing the lining and were shocked at how many holes were in the seams. They told me it would take two weeks to repair. I waited and went to pick it up and I was so happy. The coat looks as good as it did when I first purchased it. They sewing repairs they did are impeccable. I really wasn't expecting to be as pleased as I was. And the best part is that the price was totally reasonable even before the Groupon was deducted. I was expecting to pay at least $100 (I also brought in a wool coat to have cleaned) and it was much less than that. I definitely recommend BR for any sewing or alteration repairs. Wowza I Was very dissatisfied with my service today. I walked in and was stared at for a while before being helped, then proceeded to give all my information before inquiring about what service I needed. I had a down north face coat. From my understanding it could be laundered not dry cleaned. I knew this prior to coming in because my family has owned a dry cleaners for 60 + years and from working there, I knew the process. I wasn't looking for lecture. I just wanted my coat professionally cleaned because it a) was dirty & b) it smelled like dog from a pup sitting on it over the holiday weekend. I was told to wash it at home. I would have washed it at home if I wanted to. I wanted the coat professionally cleaned so the down didn't get all matted. I was just told to wash it at home and the man talking to me just walked away from the counter..no goodbye, no kind remarks & definitely zero professionalism. read more
