A unique, yet delicious menu if you get acquainted with it and use the sauces that come with every meal! I love that they offer a lunch and kids menu now as well, making it a little more doable if you want a lighter or cheaper lunch (as compared to their normal menu). Would recommend condados tacos up the road over this place. Overall the taste was quite plain for an arepas bar. We ordered the birria tacos and the steak tacos. Overall service was a bit lack luster towards the end of our visit. The ambiance was ok plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The price does not match the quality of food. read more

After FINALLY helping our son move from Mentor to a place foreign to us, Cleveland's West Side (LOL!) my wife needed to do something she hasn't done in years (her words, not mine) GO SHOPPING! And since she loves to have me join her (NOT!) I dropped her off at Crocker Park and I did a few errands. I also told her to check out the area for a place for "Date Night"! After returning and finally finding her, she said someone told her about Barroco. Uh-oh! Guess where I parked? Yep, right next to it! So the stars were lining up already! Had the temperature been a little higher Saturday, we would have opted for the outside seating, but that will have to wait. Upon entering the restaurant, we could sense the atmosphere was going to be enjoyable. Lively and colorful, the place gave a great Latin American feeling, which was a perfect touch to our late afternoon/evening date. Checked the menu and first found a drink that my wife always loves, but sometimes cannot get because of a lack of fresh mint. Yep MOJITO's! And the one we saw were there for the asking, a Coconut Mojito, which we both ordered. While ordering we asked our server what she liked on the menu and she said "When the boss is paying, I go for the steak dishes. When I pay, something less expensive!" Great answer by the way. She explained what an Arepa is and some other dishes. After that we ordered. I went with the La Gringa Arepa and my wife went with the chicken. Both were served hot (temperature) and one side was the chilli and the other was fries. The arepa's were tasty but after a few bites, had to use fork for the flaking that took place. But nothing to complain about, we love getting our fingers messy from a good dish! Took everything I could muster to finish it, and of course I did. Linda had her half and then had Sunday lunch with her other half. No desert this time, but OMG! The Chocolate Lover Merengada that was served near us, gives us a reason to come back! Three locations to entertain everyone, Lakewood, Larchmere and Westlake. Highly recommend to all and I must try in warmer weather for the outside dining! read more

Update to my original post: Management has rectified this issue so now I will update my stars from 2 to 5 to reflect all of my previous experiences at Barroco. I will start off by saying that Barroco is one of my absolute favorite restaurants. I've visited the restaurant almost weekly since they opened but that's going to change moving forward. My most recent visit was really disappointing. The Happy Hour experience was not so happy after all. The attached photo contains their happy hour menu. As you will see, there is a picture of 1 arepa cut in half, 2 pupusas, etc. The description is in plural, suggesting more than one. However, after our order arrived, we received half of an arepa, 1 pupusa, each 5.00 a piece. My daughter and I were both really surprised. Who would ever pay 5.00 for one pupusa or half of an arepa? How is this a deal? I spoke with some of the staff and they too agreed that they were not happy about this menu. I then spoke to the manager who understood where I was from but was probably in a position where he could not do anything about it. I asked him to take my information down so that he could have the owner call me. Two weeks later and I have yet to receive a call. I feel that this menu is deceptive and I do not support these kind of business practices. If you go, please order from the regular menu. read more

This location is not good. The Bird Town location has much better service. We were seated at a high table top by the kitchen which felt weird. Because of the stools we had no where to put our coats. We were sliding off our stools and were extremely uncomfortable. When asked to move to a table with chairs, we had to walk over everything on our table without help. Luckily we only had coats, water, utensils, menus, oh so not luckily I guess. We had a lot to carry. After getting to our new table, we felt forgotten about. After we placed our order and waited, we got our food and I ordered an arepa with Yuca fries. I have given a small hand full of yuca bits. It looked nothing like what I got at the Bird Town location. I was disappointed and was hoping for the same amount as the fries my boyfriend got, which was a lot. The food was good but the customer service wasn't. The location is small and tight. It was very loud in there and was hard to have a conversation with the person in front of you. When trying to leave, we had to wait for everyone waiting for a table to be seated because the location of the exit was in a small space big enough for three people is a single filed line. First time at the Westlake location. I've loved the Lakewood location. Westlake didn't disappoint. We went on Saturday night around 5:45/6 and there was no wait. Tables were spaced out snd staff wore gloves and mask. It definitely felt clean and safe. We ordered the cheesy corn dip with chicken which was good, not great. My partner got steak patacones and I got steak maduros. Both were delicious. Huge portions that could easily be made into 2 meals. Waitress was a little slow to refill drinks and get check but overall provided pleasant service. read more

I'm generally a fan of Barroco but this is my first time ordering from this location and the food was not consistent. I ordered the pork arepa and Colombian ceviche and the meat was EXTREMELY SALTY. I could not eat it because that's all I could taste (and no, I don't have COVID). I'm sorry but it was so extreme that I don't know how that goes unnoticed. I'll continue to come but I might stick to the Lakewood location.... On a positive note, I also ordered the empanadas and they were really good! read more

Went on a Wednesday night for an arepa because we loved them at a place in Texas, we were so disappointed! 1. Over priced for the amount of food 2. Tostones were way too hard and could barely chew them 3. Live guitar player before 6pm, we were sat right by a speaker (before we knew music would be happening) with our child. Dinner was a complete waste of money; truthfully, I did not even want to pay for the meal. The portion of guacamole they give you for the guacamole appetizer is LAUGHABLE. The birriarepa my friend ordered was 85% red cabbage, 10% meat, and 5% guac which was all at the bottom. I ordered the llanera arepa and it was flavorless. I felt a little hope trickle in when i got a small chunk of caramelized plantain, but it was short lived because it was one of TWO chunks of plantain in this whole thing. The side of chili was actually good though. The drinks were okay; we both got the pink paloma. The only reason this place even gets two stars from me is because the service was fast and we were sat by the fireplace which was nice. Definitely will not be coming back. Eh. Just eh. Honestly mediocre to average experience. The downs started first. When you sit down they bring water right away, but without straws, which is okay because in most places if you ask they'll bring some. Well we asked, instead of an "okay sure" we got berated for wanting to kill turtles... um okay, I'm sorry, I didn't realize they're straws were made out of turtle shells.... fine, whatever... Then the food came out. Man.. presented beautifully! Unfortunately presentation was where it ended. The flavors were good but good gravy was everything dry! They did have really good sauces in bottles you can squeeze onto the food but your food has to be able to stand on it's own and not rely on ketchup to pull it through! I mean EVERYTHING was dry! The chicken, the chorizo, the arrepas, yuca fries, any plantain product, felt like eating spiced up paper towels. Our server then just forgot about us for a while.. didn't show up for a good 15-20 minutes while we sat waiting for checks, meaning while there was a crowd gathering, waiting to be seated. I had high expectations, especially since I've eaten at other places from this owner, this one was a bit of a letdown... Probably won't be back, honestly. We used to love this place we started going to the one in Lakewood and every time we are in Crocker we would eat here as well. Today we had portions that were literally 1/4 of the size that they used to be at the Crocker park location. We asked the waitress and she said right away are they downsized all their portions. French fries are about as cheap as they come for business and they cut down by more than half .. The portion size of french fries was about a half of a McDonald's small. Even the tacos used to come with chips. Our server Knew right away when we asked about the portion size - so we are not the only people who complained- as if customers would never notice!! I really don't like giving bad reviews. I'm careful with it as I understand people's livelihoods are at stake but damn, this place is just not good. The food is virtually devoid of flavor. I would call it institutional Latino. Like you cooked for people with food allergies and left out all the taste. How can guacamole have no flavor? The chips tasted like straight grease. We had to wait 10 or so minutes for our table which is no big deal usually but, in this case, there is no place to stand. If anybody else comes in behind you, you'll find yourself standing in the middle of the dining room. Delicious food! We ate here for the first time today and I think we expected something similar to Barrio or Condado and this restaurant was totally different. The menu (although a little difficult to understand) was loaded with traditional Latin American foods I've never tried before. My husband and I decided to order the bacon and corn queso and we each got an Arepa which are corn tortillas stuffed with various ingredients - usually a meat and an array of cheeses, peppers or sauces. I highly recommend giving this place a shot! Service was great and the menu has a huge variety of options. We will be back for sure! read more

I adore Barroco, and have been eating at the Lakewood and Larchmere locations for years. I try to go to the Crocker Park location when I can, and go to the Larchmwre location at least once a month. Today I went to Crocker and ordered my favorite dish-chorizo maduro. What arrived was a dish with chicken. When I asked I if I had gotten the right order the server told me I had and that the chorizo was mixed with the chicken and that it is alwayss served that way. It is not. I eat it every month. She then told me"Im not going to argue with you but that's how we serve it." Not wanting to argue i told her I'd try it and I was starving. The dish was wet, chicken bland, and not tasty. I ate the plantain underneath and stopped. I could see the waitress giving me the stink eye and complaining to other staff when my friend sent the dish back and made sure we did not pay for it. I didn't say a word. The seveR even went behind a wall in the kitchen to speak to another staff after glaring at me for most of my meal. So surprising! I will continue to enjoy the other locations. This one Unfortunately doesn't have the same vibe. We enjoyed our time together and ignored the negative energy. The rest of the food was yummy as usual The service---not so much. This was a frustrating experience to review. This restaurant is locTed in Crocker Park, so it is mostly street parking available. We strolled in around 8ish for dinner. There were four of us. They have a cute outside area but it was too cold to enjoy it. Inside is nice, covered in what looks like encouraged writing on the wall. We got a table right away. Other than us there were only two other patrons in the restaurant and they were sitting at the bar. The bartender got to us as our server as well and took our drink and dinner order pretty promptly. There were 3 other employees sitting at a table rolling silverware and one cook at the stove. We were having a nice experience but it took FOREVER to get our food. We could actually see the cook sit their on the phone for quite a few minutes before he actually got around to cooking our meals. And then one day on the counter waiting for quite some time for the others to be ready. One order was put in the computer incorrectly apparently and had to be quickly remade once the mistake was caught. The food was delicious, but the waiting experience was quite frustrating just sitting there waiting for no apparent reason. Bathroom was clean but also covered in writing in the wall, some humorous, some just plain dirty. Everyone enjoyed their meals and cocktails, but I'm concerned what the turnaround time would be on food if the place happened to be packed. Great food, but you could be in for a long wait. read more

Amazing!! We went today for the second time this weekend-- we went to the lakewood location on Saturday Night. But we liked the Crocker Rd location better! We ordered the Sancocho de Doña Iliana and the lunch special of an arepa I cannot remember (it was supposed to be burger meat) but Chantal asked the chef if it could be substituted with chicken because we do not eat red meat! Chantal was wonderful-- everything a waiter should strive for. She accommodated our dietary restriction and she was very thoughtful with the service. We did not have to ask for another spoon or another bowl or plate even though we did not explicitly tell her we will be spliting. Hands down for anticipation. Also food was SO delicious. read more

Very disappointing especially for the prices. First things first the service was horrible I give the girls credit for being nice. Unfortunately the majority of the servers seems like they hated their job. There wasn't many people dining yet there was long waits for water and plates adding up on our dirty table. It seem like no one was managing and the employees were just having a free for all. As for the food there was some flavor there I had a Arepa the best part was the meat there just wasn't much of it. My meal was $16 for what I got I feel it was worth $8-$9 which by the way that's how much the guacamole cost. What ever you do DON'T order the Flan extremely over cooked and the flavor was inconsistent. It was plated with whipped cream, a chocolate chip cookie, and a cherry on top. To some things up I won't be revisiting this location everyone raves about this place in Lakewood. Will be stopping by there to see how they do things. The last thing that bothered me was the writing on the walls this little building is too nice to be ruin the walls and moldings. Save yourself a trip here drive out to Lakewood. read more

Good was great! I had the Arepas with rips vieja and tostones. Arepa was delicious and the fillings inside were delicious. The portions are on point for $16 entree. Ah, Barroco... you never disappoint. Delicious brunch. I'm having the sweet corn pancakes and my husband is enjoying the eggs and arepas. We've been going to Barroco for years from when he opened his first restaurant in Lakewood. We love the openness of the Crocker Park location with all the windows. Very nice and relaxing. We were looking at some of the low star reviews; just don't understand them. The food is always flavorful with huge portions! And the sauces... Yum! Don't come in here expecting Mexican food. It's not Mexican! It's Columbian, and some of the best Columbian food I've had in this country. Keep up the great work! read more

I normally don't give negative reviews but I wanted to make sure people are aware of how much they would spend for a mediocre meal. First time here with girlfriends and our kids just taking a shot at hoping that the variety of food offered would be good enough for everyone. The food definitely did have a Latin flare in appearance and taste, but it wasn't great for the kids, ages ranging 11-12. My daughter ordered the crispy buffalo chicken bowl ($15) and she didn't really like the chicken stating it was gooey but I think she meant fatty. The rice was a bit dry and hard. She did love the yucca fries though ($5). I ordered the lomo saltado and I absolutely loved it! It had large pieces of steak bits, was juicy and I had a big portion but I still feel it was a bit expensive at $28. Again, my side of rice was dry and a bit hard. We ordered 2 soft drinks at $3 each which is pretty standard. The service was slow considering we were one of the two parties total that were there initially, but to be fair they did state on the menu and online to be patient because they prepare their food as best as possible. We did notice there was a large take out order being put together but our order had been taken beforehand and we didn't order too complicated of meals in my opinion. The ambience was a bit odd for me with the writing all over especially on the brick and in the bathroom, almost like the property was defaced, but again just my opinion. It was also very cold so the majority of us wore our winter coats. Probably due to the all glass surround building and it being in the middle of winter. I gave it 3 stars because I could not give it a 2 and a half due to not knowing how to. So for my daughter and I, we ended up spending over $60 plus tip for lunch. In all fairness my meal was not on the lunch menu and it was good, but not sure I would come back for that one plate. read more

Gross. I have had take out at the Lakewood location and the Arepas were decent. I tried a few other things here including tacos and chilliquiles and boy everything was AWFUL. Dry stale tasting tortilla chips, the sauces are basically mayo mixed with different condiments and hot sauces. The tacos were dry. Worst of all the value! The prices are absurd for the quality of food. I will not be back. Weak offering! read more
