As much as I love to support local spots in the neighborhood, I just can't get a good experience here. Either the food is cold, takes forever, hard to get a table (even when it's empty), just can't win. This was my 3rd visit and every time it's the same. Initial customer service greetings were very impressive, but the overall service needs work. One waitress on duty is taxing on service delivery. Serving the tap water in old liquor bottles is a nice touch, but at least put it thru a britta to get that chlorine taste out of it. Drinks were good and strong, but the selection is limited. The fried shrimp were ok, had a good crisp, but they could do better and offer a larger shrimp (such as a U-15) so you can actually embrace the shrimp texture and the batter seasonings they use. Marinara sauce for the shrimp should be swapped for a sauce thats more Puerto Rican based, like a sofrito. The Sancocho was very flavorful, but a bit watery. For a Puerto Rican restaurant to work, the flavors, textures and menu items need to be elevated to the sky for the prices charged. You can't charge $30 a plate for some meat and rice and beans. We could all make this stuff at home better. If im going out to spend money for PR food, it needs to be better than a cuchifrito, and this experience was on par with that, and average at best. read more

I do like the food but unfortunately the way they treat customers is unacceptable. I ordered on DoorDash at 7:46 PM and order was accepted by restaurant. When DoorDash driver went to pick up food at 8:52 PM the kitchen claimed they did not have order and cancelled order. I personally called restaurant to see what happened and they stated they were very busy and Doordash should have been turned off. I also advised I have been waiting over 1 hour for a family combination and they stated if I still wanted ordered it would be an 1.5 hour. In my opinion that is NOT correct response. You made a mistake and obviously kitchen was still open. You should have pushed order to top of list and got it out ASAP. Sorry and refund does not cut it in my books. VERY poor service when I did not nothing work as a previous loyal customer. You really need to think about how you treat your customers. read more

My husband and I had great dinner at Barrio. Drinks were on point( I had the Que Rico). I ordered the Pernil which is a pork dish since I don't cook pork at home and it was exactly what I expected - tender and the portion size was huge. We sat outside even though it was a chilly night and they had nice heaters that helped. Desserts to go were scrumptious - great flan and guava tres leches. Barrio Bx is my favorite new restaurant on E. Tremont. Between the service, the ambiance, the actual care they take in providing social distance between customers and of course the food, this is one of the best to visit. This actually tastes like authentic PR cooking. I don't have anything negative to say about this place. If your trying to decide between here and Mamasushi than Barrio Bx is where you should come. The bar tender lacked enthusiasm and appeared uninterested, which created a dull atmosphere and was detrimental to the business. Came in Sat July 22nd at 4pm . Nothing worst then an entitled bartender. My best description female , glasses short hair and no behind . Music was decent, nothing extravagant. Barrio BX provides a great environment and great service for family/friends outings. The food was amazing and drinks even better . The food comes in huge portions so you will never leave hungry . The service is horrible. When I sat at the booth, I noticed the seat was wet and I pointed it out to the server. She brought me napkins so that I can clean it myself. We placed our orders and it took 45 mins for our food to arrive. We ordered asopao de camarón. The asopao is supposed to have rice in it, ours did not have rice. When I brought it to the servers attention she was just as shocked as we were that there was no rice in the asopao. I had to order a side of rice. I have never had to work so hard to get a servers attention. I had to wave her down to bring us utensils and napkins. The place wasn't even busy. I just couldn't understand why the service was so slow. I had to ask the server when the asopao was going to arrive. Then had to wait a little longer. The place has a nice ambiance but the service just needs to be improved. I don't think I'll return. There was nothing that made the experience worthwhile. read more

As a local and a Puerto Rican, I wanted to check this place out and support our local small businesses, especially during COVID times. Let's talk about customer service, everyone was very friendly. The decor and atmosphere of this place is so cute. The music is great but a bit loud especially when you are trying to have a conversation.The space outdoors is very nice. I like that there are dividers between each tablespace. The reason I took a star away is that the food was a little greasy to my liking but the food did have flavors and the presentation was very nice. I did speak to one of the owners and gave him my feedback on the food and he was very grateful for my suggestions. I hope they stick around because this place has potential. First, we have to commend our server Justin on his organizational skills. He was the only server in the whole restaurant when we arrived at 12:15 and he already had a huge party that didn't seem to know what they wanted to order. I think they ordered almost an hour later. This was only our second visit to Barrio Bx, but Justin remembered us which is a huge plus in our book. As with our first visit, our drinks came out quickly and were perfect. A bit of advice, watch out for the rum punch, it will kick you in the ass! As with our first visit, our food was delicious. We ordered the Carnivora picaderas, which was a mix of churrasco, pork, chicken and shrimp with yuca fries and tostones, a side of amarillos and a side of beans and rice. All were delicious and we have enough left for dinner tonight. The music was great and the service was great. A word to management-don't ever lose Justin, he is worth his weight in gold! read more

Went to Barrio Social the weekend of Sept. 26 and was extremely pleased. Given the current Covid-19 situation was somewhat skeptical about going to any restaurant but Barrio Social had great outside seating. The waitress that took care of us, there were over 8 of us at our table, was meticulous and attentive with the service. Came back repeatedly to ask if we need anything else. The drinks were great and they had an excellent variety. With regards to the food, everyone was absolutely delicious. From the appetizers to the main course, it was simply delicious and well made and seasoned. The staff is very attentive as the table was promptly cleaned off when individuals were done with their drinks or their appetizers. Would definitely recommend this place and will surely be making a return trip. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE! The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. The owners are following Covid-19 policies and procedures but it doesn't make dining feel stiff. Outdoor tables are separated by tall plexiglass with ample heating lamps. The staff is super warm and helpful. But most importantly, THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS! Mi Gente don't get fooled by the look of the food because indeed it looks very tasteful but It's NOT my food was tasteless I ordered arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas, Chicharrón de pollo (crackling chk and alcapurrias (fried plantains dough with meat inside) and everything I tasted had NO salt or flavor.
