As this was our first time dining here at Barrel 33 we didn't know what to expect, we didn't know whether the food was going to be any good, or how attentive the wait staff was going to be, we weren't expecting alot, as our other dining experiences have let us down before we were thinking this was going to be the same old same old. To our surprise the wait staff was very attentive keeping our drinks refilled, they never ran empty, when it came to our appetizer and our food they were always asking how it was, if we needed anything else. the wait staff are amazing and if not for just the food being great we would definitely dine here again. The food was immaculate, we had the deep fried pickles appetizer and I will tell you straight from the heart I've never had fried pickles as delicious as these were, not even Quaker Steak has pickles this delicious. 10/10 We each ordered the Philly cheesesteak, hers with the garlic aoli and mine without, and I have to say we were both surprised at how delicious, savory, and tender the steak was. This is the type of dining experience we have expected but have never gotten to witness. Barrel 33 has really out done themselves. Went on a Friday night with family for an easy dinner. We ordered the deviled eggs, onion rings, two of the special burgers with brie + candied bacon jam, fish and chips, and the shrimp bowl. Everything was amazing, service was great, and honestly worth the price, especially in the current economy. Would recommend for a local/non-chain dinner out. Music was a nice add, but we sat on the quieter side so we could have more of a conversation. Maple old fashioned was great, but just needed a chilled glass or stirred a little more before serving. I'd keep it honest but professional so it carries more weight: Barrel 33 has some of my favorite shrimp tacos anywhere, and I've never had a bad meal here. The food is consistently good, which is why we continue coming back. Unfortunately, the service has declined significantly over time. It wasn't like this when they first opened, but now it seems that every visit involves long waits--for drinks, water refills, someone to take our order, our food, or even our check. Tonight was a perfect example. We sat for about 15 minutes before a young man who wasn't even our server stepped in, took our drink order, brought our beverages, and made sure we were taken care of. He essentially saved what would have been a very poor experience. Once we were finished eating, our actual server finally appeared. My meal was also brought out without the fries that were supposed to come with it, and the menus on the table were dirty. The bright spot was that young employee who stepped up and took care of us. I wish I had caught his name because he deserved the tip and the recognition. The food keeps us coming back, but the service continues to be disappointing. I truly hope management addresses it because this restaurant has great food and a lot of potential. Unfortunately, tonight wasn't a one-off experience. The last time we dined in, service was so slow that our drinks didn't arrive until long after we ordered, and the beer was warm by the time it reached the table. I forgot to get pictures. Dined in for brunch in Jan 2025. We both ordered the same thing, a Bloody Mary and an egg sandwhich and shared some cauliflower bites as an appetizer. Bloody Mary's were very vinegary? Service was poor from our server. Didn't inform us of Bloody Mary bar build your own options until after we got the house one he recommended. But we were asking if anything came on the drink like celery or anything before and he never told us of the custom options, just seemed annoyed that we were asking about our choices. There was a whole form you could fill out to get anything you wanted including choosing a vodka. We ended up adding celery only because he wasn't telling us our options. We told him it tasted strong like pickle/vinegar and wanted to know the liquor or mix they used, couldn't give us an answer, and never gave us one. Ended up getting our food to go because we didn't want to be there anymore. Cauliflower bites were very sweet but good and got a decent portion. We've given this local place in the Howland GE plaza several chances but each time we've gone it's been one let down after another. One time it was the food that was not right, then the wait service was long and not very attentive, and lastly when we spoke with Bryan, the owner, he did nothing to compensate us which was fine but his attitude was even worse. He seemed annoyed and just walked away. You would think honest feedback from your customers would be welcome to help better the place. We will not be returning. For starters it impressed me that when we walked in they had reserved us a table even though I didn't technically make a reservation! When we pulled up, there was a big banner that said "Under New Management" - that made me nervous. My intuition was right. I usually like this place, but I'm giving it two stars for this particular visit. They way overbooked on Mother's Day, our reservation didn't matter, we had to sit around and wait, and then it took forever to get the food, and when we got it, half of it was cold. Also, our waitress did something that I really hate, she started complaining about not being scheduled for that day and coming in anyway, because she too is a mother. This place has a great selection of beer and drinks. You can walk over and grab whatever you want of the shelf. However, you have to allow your waitress to open it, so they can charge you $1.50 corking fee, and that's for each beer you get. To avoid the fee, you can just get your beer to go, but that kinda defeats the purpose of dining in. The menu is massive. They hand you a clipboard with like 8 sheets of paper clipped to it. The papers are filled from front to back with words. I thought I was about to file my taxes or something. (Initial here, here and here, now sign here.) It was a bit overwhelming. I had to watch my wife swim in the sea of indecision for a long time. Part of the problem is they include their daily specials, regular food items and complete drink list. I would recommend that they create separate menus. The waitress had to give us a crash course on how to understand their menu. The cost of the food was pretty high. When they say small plate- believe them. They are super stingy with portions. The food is good, but not worth the cost. They are selling samples as an appetizers. Perhaps, they can get away this in Howland, but it wouldn't fly anywhere else. How about the staff? The staff was very warm and friendly. They greeting us as soon as we came in and the waitress constantly checked on is. No complaints here. Decent customer service. How about the atmosphere? They have a lovely set up.
