This place was wonderful. Great place for a beer while you get some good, quality grub. I have to give it up to the chef - a young guy back there made the best damn breaded cod taco I ever had. The breading is so light, it's truly a great dish - very well cooked fish. Only reason I'd give it a 4...and I should give it a 3 for this reason because its bad form in this era, their online menu was less expensive than they're actual menu = It was more expensive when you got there. The grilled cheese on garlic sour dough was great. It is a huge sandwich I could only eat about half. The garlic fries were pretty good too. I think they could use more garlic but I personally love a lot of garlic so that may just be me. The online ordering worked seamlessly and they had our order ready when we arrived to pick it up. Always excited to find a local spot in a new, unfamiliar place and so was glad to discover this lunch place. Have to say that I don't think the food was quite up to par that day, but it was a holiday weekend and it's clear they were working hard to serve their customers with fewer resources at their disposal than usual. Gravy fries were a bit off (soggy with flavorless gravy) and my split pea soup was inexplicably loaded with green beans. I appreciated their take on crab cakes, but the polenta rendered them dry and with a texture that was less appealing. Others in my party enjoyed their burgers, grilled cheese and fish/chips....seems my choices were just a bit off that day. But they get a solid 4 stars for service and creating a great, warm place to escape winter storms. We had a great meal here. I tried the broiled Rockfish with basil pesto and asiago. It came with a nice side salad, and the fish was well prepared and flavorful. My friend ordered the jalapeno burger. It was filling, and he enjoyed the flavors. The shoestring fries looked good but weren't very crispy, and neither were the sweet potato fries. The service was surprisingly good even though the Bistro was down to one server. What a really nice treat. I was up in Brookings, OR again for the last 2 weeks and had myself a wonderful adventure. While in Gold's Beach after taking a river jet trip I was looking for some good food. Gas stations attendants (note in OR they pump your gas for you) are always a good source for good places to eat in town. Aaron at Chevron told me about Barnacle Bistro when I asked where could I get the best fish n chips in town. Aaron was right... it was wonderful. Made with 2 large pieces of fresh cod from Alaska and seasoned curly fries. Everything on the menu is fresh and home made. The burgers looked great. A man sitting at the table next to me had some sort of huge sandwich that made me want to become a compulsive over eater all over again. A woman came in and wanted to know if the salad dressings had sugar in them because she can't eat sugar. The owner was wonderful and said yes, even though all his salad dressings are homemade he said they do have sugar in them... however he offered to make her something special that didn't contain sugar. This Barnicle Bistro is a find and highly recommended. The food was delicious and fresh and healthy. We shared a garden salad which was actually two! We also shared a cranberry , turkey sandwich with couscous that was delicious. We also heard their lamb burger was out out this world. The Bistro also serves regular burgers and fries. The servers John and Sergio were prompt, efficient, and very friendly. The ambiance of the resturant is funky or artsy but very clean. The price more than reasonable. This place was really good. We went there twice. The first night we both had burgers-the candied jalapeño burger and the Evan Almighty burger with garlic fries. I had red wine and my Hubby had a good beer, but it was warm. That's our only Complaint. The next day he had fish and chips-garlic fries again, and I had the chicken sandwich. This was a disappointment for sure. We read great reviews on here so decided to stop. The Evan Almighty burger and the bacon honey mustard burger were pretty good. The barnacle burger was dry and overcooked and the Greek chicken salad was blah. The chicken was very dry and overcooked as well. My son, who has ordered fish and chips at 4 or 5 places now along the coast said these weren't as good as the others. Overall a big thumbs down. read more

This is our go-to spot for years when we vacation at Gold Beach or in the general vicinity. Owner-operated, and a cute little place. Solid burgers and sandwiches, and everything served in large portions. Had the homemade veggie burger--ginger slaw is second to none, and the garlic fries were incredible. A highlight is the feature of all of Arch Rock's fantastic beers, which are brewed down the street. Diners with me swear by the chicken sandwich, and the fish 'n chips--however, the clam chowder on the days we visited was rather gelatinous and bland. Be prepared for a small dining room which is often busy and on a wait--they have a small staff and small kitchen, so also be prepared for that, but we honestly have had a great experience here every time, even when slow. While on a short family vacation in Gold Beach, I was wondering just what was good to eat in this in town. The Barnacle Bistro is proof that my Android Yelp app never steers me wrong. When we first walked it the place seemed a bit deserted, but the little restaurant slowly filled up as we ate. It's pretty small so I would imagine on the most popular nights/in the summer for there to be a wait because there's only 8-10 tables. It reminded me of a real, old time kind of cafe with jazz music playing in the background. I ordered the combo half portobello panini with a balsamic vinigrette salad on the side. You know that feeling when it's cold outside but the food makes you feel perfectly warm? That's exactly how I felt biting into my delicious panini of melted monterey jack and mushrooms while the rain was pounding outside. The salad was also HUGE and had a flavorful variety of onions, peppers and greens. Very far from the usual house salad you would expect. I also managed to sample the chicken marsala special, fish and chips and clam chowder of the others at my table and everything was excellent. Our waitress was kind of sassy, and checked in on us often even though she was the only waitress working every single table. Even though there is not much competition in the Gold Beach area, Barnacle Bistro is for sure where I would steer someone if they were in the area. Ambiance: 4...A little bit chilly but had nice windows to people watch outside. Service: 4...Just the right amount of attention. Taste: 5...Definitely by Gold Beach standards. My wife and I ate here on a trip to the coast back in September, and if I ever get a chance to do it again, I definitely will do. We both had their special burger that night with sauteed mushrooms, ginger slaw, garlic fries and panna cotta. The burger was excellent, and cooked to perfection, while the sauteed mushrooms had that slightly burnt wine taste, which set things off just slightly. Not enough to ruin the burger, but enough to keep me going back to the fries. Their fries? Garlic fries...fantastic! Loved them, and were a perfect side to go along with their beautiful ginger slaw. I could have eaten a lot more of that if it had been available and I am not usually a slaw fan. Their panna cotta was perfect. This one had fresh berries, and was perfectly creamy, smooth, and absolutely wonderful. I even told the waitress that if this panna cotta were on the menu in Portland, it would have been 1/3 the size, and twice the cost. Next time we are in Gold Beach we will definitely be going back. Now I just need some time off from work so I can do something other than work. read more

Just got back to hotel after dinner at Barnacle Bistro. Staying in town for 2 nights to take in beautiful Oregon coast that I love and do Jerry's Jet Boat on the Rogue. Picked BB based on Yelp reviews. Based on reviews we both ordered small order of fish and chips - substituted small salad for chips ($3 add). As directed by menu and their web site I asked if local lingcod was available - told yes and ordered it. Wife asked for cocktail sauce in lieu of tartar. Salad was very good (Balsamic vinaigrette), slaw was fine, thought not to my taste, but that's on me. Fish was good, nothing special. So why only two stars? We ordered small fish and chips - $11 on the menu and their web site plus salad sub - a $3 add. When check came instead of $14 each serving was $18.50. Had waiter told me there was a 41% premium for local caught fish I may or may not have said OK but he did not mention differential. He also brought tartar sauce with my wife's plate - had to ask (and wait) for cocktail sauce. Everyone has a bad day - mine would have been better if (after I asked to see menu again and showed him the $11 on menu with no mention of add for local caught) the Barnacle Bistro had simply adjusted my check. Waiter's day would have been better had he done this and would have received a tip that I typically leave - 20-25%; he got 10. Not a bad place but not a good experience this time for me. read more
