Shared a 2/3 pound Alaskan Cod fish and chips dinner, along with a large House Salad. With the fish and chips we had a choice of fried potatoes, and chose the Sweet Potato Fries. It also came with cole slaw. The fish and chips were larger pieces (compared to another place we recently ate at), and deliciously prepared. The fish just seemed to melt in my mouth. The fries were great. I don't usually eat fries, but if I do, I hope they can be these again. Even the slaw was delicious; I love the way they are prepared around here, with larger pieces and little or no mayo. The salad was equally outstanding. A very good assortment of greens, some tomatoes, colorful peppers, cuke slices, carrot strips, and sunflower seeds. Service was efficient, if perhaps a bit perfunctory. I've tried to grab dinner at this place twice before tonight. The first attempt led me to think they were lousy because the parking lot was empty. The second try had only a couple cars, but they were closing and the last customers were leaving and they wouldn't let us in. Tonight I made a point to arrive at least an hour before closing and all but one table was in use. After being seated the man in charge indicated that he would be back in a minute. One minute later he seated us and we started to scan the menu. Joe. I think that's the name, a person whom truly acts like he gives a damn to the degree I figured he must own this place. But he told me he he was hired help. I think he is lying, he didn't attempt to up-sell items to pad either tips or ticket. After a short time following the first round of drinks our dinners arrive. The fish n chips I ordered was by no means an amount that would be considered slight. Two substantial pieces of a local sourced rock fish with a breading that sustained its crisp well past the expected! Piled atop both the garlic fries as well as a fresh slaw of red and green cabbage. I augmented the dish a bit with some salt and vinegar but only because I wanted a slight sharpness otherwise not present. Nicole ordered a grilled cheese sandwich that I was most certainly concerned with, being that she usually orders them and seldom finds them to her liking. At $10 I was most pleased to see that it was not some flat soggy grilled bread surrounding a thin veneer of velveeta-like process smegma passing as something akin to American cheese. Not at all. It was a proper sandwich made with a gooey cheese that certainly made me smile when I watched her first stringy bite span the area as she pulled the 'wich away and had a pleased smile. Kristin, my wife ordered a Basil Cod plate that also demonstrated the great attention to details that were present at every passing moment throughout our meal. Following the plates being cleared I found a bit more details regarding our servers desire to provide not simply a transport for food to table in exchange for a hopeful tip, but a man who takes his job as seriously as any artisan might maintain from the start of a piece until it is finally completed. Not a cheap meal. No, not for the budget minded perhaps but most certainly a meal that if approached like mine was tonight something that will leave you with a sense of satisfaction. read more

So I got here 45 minuets before closing and the wait staff were friendly and I took my seat. It took a little time to get served, but I had a lemonade and it was made with real lemons. It was great! Don't go here unless you have hours to wait for your drinks and bland food. Service seems to not even get it (customers waiting for their check forever, waiting for their water, waiting and waiting.) Amazing food! Husband and I have heard a lot about this place and finally stopped in on our recent trip. First off, like every other business lately, they are understaffed. Like just the chef and the waiter! And all the tables were full. That being said, they did an AMAZING job! Yes, it took longer to order and get food, but it was well worth the wait. The burgers and garlic fries are to die for! Lots of people eating their seafood tacos. They are huge. Highly recommend this place! He walked us through the menu and really provided great customer service. If you happen to stop by in the fall, ask for Archer Rock Cranberry Cider! It's the best! We really enjoyed our lunch at Barnacle Bistro today! My guy had fish and chips with the garlic fries...the slaw was perfect. I ordered the steamer clams with a green salad. The salad was so fresh and the cilantro vinaigrette was nice. The clams were so yummy! The butter, lemon and wine was definitely heavy on the wine! Not totally balanced but still delicious...the focaccia bread was perfect. I tried a blackberry cider from Bandon OR. It was really a good balance, not too sweet, not too much berry flavor. This place is amaaaaaazing! Where do I begin. We've been traveling up and down the coast for two weeks from California to Washington and this by far was the best food we had, right up there with the Michelin Star restaurant in Coos Bay. It's small, there's one server and one cook but it's comfortable and nice inside. They also have a great outdoor patio. The young server was busting his butt to serve all the tables and our service was exemplary. We ordered the crab cakes, candied jalapeño burger, and the Crazy Cranny. The burger was best we ever tasted. It was moist and had a delectable grilled flavor and that jalapeño honey mustard sauce made it perfect. The crab cakes were crispy and flavorful of fresh crab, no taste of mayonnaise which I hate and why I usually don't order crab cakes. And my Turkey sandwich on crispy, fluffy focaccia was divine, thick juicy Turkey meat. I wish they were open on Sundays because I'd be back tomorrow for the last day of our trip, it was just that good. read more

This review is for the food, not the front of house service. The girl who took my order was fantastic, but my food was just plain terrible. The fish tacos, garlic fries, and cup of clam chowder took 25 minutes--too long for fries that just need to be deep fried, chowder that just needs to be ladled into a cup, a single pair of fish tacos, and a nearly empty restaurant. The fries were absolutely stale, the clam chowder was like gritty glue, and the tacos were covered in about 1/2 pound of mayo and cheese. I swear I am not exaggerating. Found this place while road tripping up the Oregon coast. We were starved and wanted some seafood. I orderer the curried mussels and my friend ordered the steamer clams. Both were so delicious. My dish was definitely the favorite. The crostini that came with both bowls was also very good. My friend ordered a cider which we liked but I can't recall the name (it was reddish). We were on a road trip along the Oregon coast and decided to stop here for lunch along on our way up. There's not too much seating but luckily our wait wasn't long and we were able to be seated within a few minutes of arriving. I got the gluten free crab cakes and the garlic fries. The crab cakes were pretty good, a little small but pretty good. The best part was that they were gluten free too! I really liked the garlic fries the best. Most places that make garlic fries either make them too bitter with not cooking the garlic or not garlicky enough. This place was just right. The service was really good as well. The food was fresh, and I would say clean...the menu is eclectic and it's different than the greasy spoons you expect in this little costal town. We had a large salad, Mediterranean chicken and couscous, seafood tacos and clams. All in all I felt the food was a solid B+, what I struggled with was the funky angry music, which seemed to rub off on the kitchen staff, who were vocally upset about being busy and customers arriving 15 minutes before closing (7:30pm). The waiter who was young and clearly feeling the negative attitude and pressure from the kitchen about allowing customers to order food (making one of them get food Togo-he had to apologize to her for the angry kitchen comments we clearly all heard) made for an uncomfortable dining experience. Also the server didn't have any understanding of the food prep so wasn't really able to answer questions about the menu. This is a very small restaurant like less than 10 tables in a little yurt/barnacle with a small space added on the side, it's a little rough around the edges (very barnacle like). So final assessment fresh food, more creative, good for lunch since they close early, would I go again, if in gold beach I might be inclined since the options are soooo limited. read more

We came weary of too many burger and fries meals on this road trip. But the atmosphere brought us in. We started with the local brewery Arch Rock Stout. Full bodied with a slight hoppy kick in the end. Great! Our waitress suggested the Brazilian Fish Tacos and Fish and Chips. They did not disappoint! The fish tacos were generous with scallops and shrimp in a light salsa sauce. The cod in my Fish and Chips was very lightly battered. I usually pick off the batter but these were so light that I ate it all! The fries are hand cut and fresh. Bridget our waitress was like having your favorite bubbly niece wait on you. The right amount of sparkle mixed with down home grins. The vibe was lively friendly and cozy. The drinks menu was for beer and wine but a full liquor license will allow for an expansion of the drinks menu. Stay tuned. They are worth the trek to Gold Beach. read more

A local merchant suggested we eat here. I really wish I knew the clam chowder recipe! It was fantastic!! Best I have ever eaten! It's garlicky and smoky with a little kick of something. My husband said his Cuban sandwich was great and my daughter loved her garlic fries and fish. We will return here every time we return to the coast! Also, the people in town are incredibly friendly. Decided to try this place after reading a review. I was disappointed and wished I picked a different place. There are lots of flies inside, the only table available for us was sticky and we had to brush food crumbs off of the stools. It appeared like they had a great beer selection because of their displays, but when the server brought a drink menu (which was slimy) there are only 3 options. Four of usordered our food, and I have to say the 2 sandwiches were very good. A Cuban and a cranberry turkey were well made and big portions, which was lucky for me since I ordered crab cakes and my husband ordered Curry mussels. These 2 orders are like appetizers but are listed with dinner options. So I ate 1/2 of my sister's sandwich. I saw fish tacos at other tables and they looked like good portions. Maybe the owner should just do tacos and sandwiches, and not try to be too fancy. The server was nice, but sloppy. Everything she carried she spilled including the mussel broth on our table and every beer or water that went by. Also it took an excessively long time to get our food. read more

I grew up in Curry County When I walked into Barnacle a man was waiting for his wife to come out of the restroom. I said "how's the food?" He said "I had the best clams of my entire life" (he was about 75....) I said "that's a pretty good review". And I concur with the astute gentleman.
