    Clam chowder

Me and my boyfriend are from out of town and were looking forward to a clam chowder bread bowl. We talked about it the whole drive up. What we got was the most underwhelming mush. We had to add so much seasoning and hot sauce to make it edible and it was blander than hell. My boyfriend didn't have a single piece of clam in his bowl and we both thought it smelled a little fishy, he genuinely thought his had fish instead of clams. Most of my clams were sandier than hell, yes I know that comes with eating seafood sometimes but it was overwhelmingly sandy. 2 hours after we ate, both of us are glued to the toilet. It's coming out both ends. I swear we've lost 10lbs already. Also a bread bowl is advertised as $14, a cup of chowder is $7, we somehow ended up paying $40.56 without tipping, yes there is a credit card surcharge of 3% but that would ONLY add $1.05. They also charge you for TOGO BOXES

We loved this place! Short wait time, attentive service! Great for large groups like ours, there were a lot of tables and booths with ocean views. Decor inside is eccentric and fitting of this place. I had the best wedge salad of my life here! Tater tots were perfect! My family enjoyed everything they had off this menu as well.

We had Calamari Steak and Bread Bowl Clam Chowder. Both were very good. The Calamari Steak was cooked perfectly. The chowder bread bowl was just right with lots of clams. The place is clean and roomy. No waiting to be seated and our food was up in minutes from the time of order. We are coming back for dinner tomorrow to try another dish on the menu.

Great spot! Wonderful views and great service. Steamer clams were delicious. The lump crab cocktail was good but the cocktail sauce was over powered by however much of horseradish they had in there. Chowder was delicious tho!!!

    Welcome to the Port Hole...

Plenty of parking, so that's a plus Typical touristy coastal restaurant with OK food in reasonable quantity and reasonable prices (translation: not a gourmet destination, but good if you're hungry). Service was a bit on the slow side, but cheerful. Since restaurant choices in the area are limited, we'd probably come back again -- and keep our expectations in check.

They allow one small dog, no outdoor seating. Would've liked to have eaten here. So if you have two not large dogs, out of luck.

    Is there Rv parking nearby?

Yes. The parking lot is large and big rig friendly. Busses, RV, semi, horse trailer, boat, etc. There are at least three entrances from different streets along 101. (Ellesburg Avenue.) All are very accommodating.

I saw this place on Yelp - I didn't read the reviews but did peep the 3.8 star rating so.. I thought "it's Chinese food, how bad could it be?". Well... when I entered to pick up the food I was told I had to wait a few minutes. Unfortunately that only gave me time to observe the extremely dirty and run down restaurant. It was stuffy, everything was dusty, the carpet had crumbs all over even though there was a sticker on the door saying they Only did takeout ? So I'm not sure how long those crumbs have been there. It was also ironic because by right by the register and their takeout menus there was a brochure for a carpet cleaning service ? I digress. I could also see in to the kitchen and I could see it was also unkept. I ignored these red flags and my urge to leave because again- we were starving and nothing else in town was open. I paid $60 (with tip) for "cashew chicken", beef & broccoli, spring rolls and shrimp fried rice. To say the least - it was inedible . It all got thrown away . The fried rice was mushy, it had no soy sauce, the spring rolls looked like .... Giant nuggets of something ? Idk they were salty but not good. The cashew chicken had more celery than chicken and it was also in some sort of gravy ? The beef and broccoli was also insanely Horrible. Clearly frozen broccoli and mush. It was so bad. I feel bad because the older man cooking was sweet but also, the food and Cleanliness doesn't even deserve one star

What did we have to lose if made a quick drive by...just in case? As we drove up we saw a couple at the order window! We quickly walked up to the counter (while trying to act like we were not quickly walking up to the counter). Sheepishly we asked if they were still taking orders. They graciously said we could order! Thank you Neptune. Large clam chowder and a large fish and chips for me. Fish tacos for the SO. Did I want to start with my clam chowder? Yes please! Hot clam chowder with the cold sea air at your back. It was not a gourmet chowder that you could stand your spoon in. It was a comforting homemade chowder with the perfect clams to potatoes ratio, and it boy did it hit the spot! Arriving next was the generous portion of fish and chips. The fish was coated with light breading accompanied by a homemade sour cream based tartar sauce full of fresh herbs. The fish tacos were even better. The same fish filet covered with fresh cabbage, onions, tomato, and drizzled with a citrusy sour cream sauce. The SO claimed they were the best fish tacos she had ever had. My fish and chips were excellent, but I actually still had a little orderer's remorse after taking a bite of the fish tacos. One of the owners came by our table to bring some cocktail sauce and we remarked how fresh the fish was. She said that they just caught the fish yesterday. How can you not love a place that catches their own fish? Who does that in this day and age? Well, I hate to so boring, but here is another five star review to add to their collection.

On par and better than I've had in San Diego. The sauce and slaw on the tacos was delicious. The rockfish was fresh. They catch what they cook. When they run out, they catch some more! I also had their clam chowder which was thinner than I'm used to but I really really liked that. The fish and chips were also great. The tartar sauce was absolutely the best tasting tartar sauce I've had. It was not your classic tartar sauce. It's house made and delicious. Long wait (30+ minutes) but worth it. That's the only negative to it and would usually bring it down a star for me but the food was so good have to give it 5 stars. You can walk around the harbor to look at the ocean if you like. The day I visited, they also had a friendly dog that many customers played with while waiting. The dog was very cute and friendly and had toys nearby you could use to play with them. They have an outdoor hand washing station for public use. Only outdoor seating available. I ate in our van with a nice view of the water. Many people ate on the flatbed of their trucks. They also had some picnic tables.

The soup special was a truly outstanding walnut pesto sweet potato soup, which I subbed as a side. I tried the soup first, and was blown away, certain that nothing could be more spectacular. Then I tried my Grilled Ruuuben. Oh. Holy smokes. This thing is magical. I've tried quite a few vegan Reubens in my day, and Off the Wagon has the best - hands down. Something about the combination of house-made seitan, grilled onions, sauerkraut, melty cheese, and dressing transforms this sandwich into pure heaven. My dining companions enjoyed their choices which included the burger (substituting the chicken patty for the Beyond patty) and the Tofurky Club. I'm considering a campaign to encourage Off the Wagon to move to Kentucky so I can enjoy this Ruuuben with some frequency. Truly the stuff dreams are made of.
