Bread bowl chowder
Dennis H.

We had Calamari Steak and Bread Bowl Clam Chowder. Both were very good. The Calamari Steak was cooked perfectly. The chowder bread bowl was just right with lots of clams. The place is clean and roomy. No waiting to be seated and our food was up in minutes from the time of order. We are coming back for dinner tomorrow to try another dish on the menu.

club sandwich and fries

We love the Porthole. Burgers and fries are delicious. I also love their club sandwich. Their thousand island is homemade and so good for dipping your fries in. We always get togo food and they're very nice and the food is ready pretty quick. The restaurant itself is cute and right by the water.

Great spot! Wonderful views and great service. Steamer clams were delicious. The lump crab cocktail was good but the cocktail sauce was over powered by however much of horseradish they had in there. Chowder was delicious tho!!!

Welcome to the Port Hole...

Plenty of parking, so that's a plus Typical touristy coastal restaurant with OK food in reasonable quantity and reasonable prices (translation: not a gourmet destination, but good if you're hungry). Service was a bit on the slow side, but cheerful. Since restaurant choices in the area are limited, we'd probably come back again -- and keep our expectations in check.

Very average seafood place. No excuse with locally sourced fresh fish. Coleslaw tucked. Won't be back.

The deep fried seafood plater was high priced bland, need all the tarter and cocktail sauce just to make it edible.

Is there Rv parking nearby?

Yes. The parking lot is large and big rig friendly. Busses, RV, semi, horse trailer, boat, etc. There are at least three entrances from different streets along 101. (Ellesburg Avenue.) All are very accommodating.

We went to Bandon through Gold Beach just so we could stop again at Gold Beach BBQ…read more I tried the brisket with mac&cheese bowl. AMAZING! Shared with my husband because he liked the first bite of creamy goodness so much. I paid him back by eating some of his beans which had nice chunks of brisket in them. So flavorful with a hint of sweetness. Husband's chicken sandwich had a large, juicy piece of chicken too. We stuffed ourselves. The service was friendly and prompt. Only negative was I was not impressed with the biscuit. Hard on the bottom yet the top was falling apart. Flavor was fine. Lunch was definitely worth taking the long way up to Bandon. Sorry review is late, but I promised I would do it this time.

The sandwiches are huge! We had two pulled pork sandwiches. The pork was very moist and flavorful. My husband liked the huge size of the sandwich. I think I would have preferred the mini. You can get onions and pickles on the side if you ask. We also shared the mac and cheese which was great and just enough to share. There were jalapeños in it. I would have liked a bit more salt and fresh ground pepper. Wish we would have tried the brisket as well. Guess we will have to go back if we are passing through.

Kind of a hip dive bar meets delicious food with a sprinkle of old timers ready to share a story or two with you while you wait. We got burgers, cuz duh... Look at these things!! I got mine with a side salad instead of fries and my friend got the fries. All of it was delicious. There was zero chance either of us were able to finish these monsters so the rest came home with us. The side salad was amazing! Fries were delicious. And the burgers did not disappoint. The guy at the counter was super friendly and everyone in the establishment gave off a friendly vibe. Happy they were the only place open when we were driving through. We would definitely visit again.

It took a total of TWO hours and 15 minutes, and that's AFTER we went up to the counter to ask about the pizza progress. No apologies from staff once pizza came. -Food 3/5: Pizza was not bad, just not memorable. It's heavy, but I mean..it's pizza. Their ranch was prob my favorite food item & my family thought the wings were alright. -Ambiance 3/5: It's the exact vibe of what you would expect from a dive bar, but the staff obviously favors locals-only. Tourists may feel like all eyes are on them. Pros: -One of few places for late-night dinner/grub. -Allows you to experience a Port Orford locals' bar spot. -There's karaoke apparently on Saturday nights which may be fun to check out. TLDR: If you do need a late-night spot for food, do not get the pizza...NOT worth the wait. Grab some apps & beers and just enjoy the local bar vibe of Port Orford.

Our waitress seemed…read moreirritated with us from the start, and mind you all we had done was sit at the table she instructed us to sit at. For context, I've been a waitress on the coast for nearly 10 years, so I'm usually very mindful of not making a server's job harder, but this felt different. When we ordered, she came across as genuinely annoyed. Did she check on things like coffee? Yes, but with a look of annoyance that made the whole interaction uncomfortable. The food itself was mediocre at best. The gravy was meh, though the chicken fried steak was decent. The "hash browns," however, were not traditional hash browns, they were more like oven roasted potatoes smashed on the grill, which was disappointing if you're expecting the classic version. The pricing was another surprise. I work at a higher end restaurant, and their brunch prices are comparable to what we paid here, which says a lot, considering this is supposed to be a basic diner experience. When our food was dropped off, we were told the toast would be "just a minute." No problem, but when it finally arrived, it was completely cold, with unmelted "butter" that had little to no flavor. And as someone who grew up eating margarine and then transitioning to butter, I knew that this was margarine. My boyfriend who has never had margarine didn't understand why his butter didn't "taste like anything". Also worth noting, my partner ordered a side of sausage links, four small links for $9, yup your read that right, $9 dollars for a side of sausage. Overall, the service felt hostile with a fake mask, the food was mediocre, and the pricing didn't match the experience. As a person who was raised here on the coast and thought to "experience double d's diner again" since it has been a few years, I won't be returning.

My husband had the Sable fish, which was sautéed & served with Polenta & olives. Very good he said. Our server was very attentive & made great recommendations for wine, beer and food. We didn't have dessert which looked yummy, but opted instead for an after dinner walk on the beach. I definitely recommend Redfish when you are staying in Port Orford, Gold Beach or Bandon.
