Take out only. Chinese food but at a Very Good value. I paid $8 for Sweet and Sour chicken with rice, and $8 for Lo-Mein Chicken with Rice. And it includes 2 Lipton tea bags. I'm a big guy but honestly there was so much food I couldn't finish all the rice. I thought there was no way I could possibly get that much food for $16. $4 tip. The chef was nice. Old place, I looked it up, they've been in Gold Beach for something like 30 years or so. read more

Omg I HATE to do this but this food was honestly the worst I've had in..... years. Tiny town on a Sunday and we were starving. I saw this place on Yelp - I didn't read the reviews but did peep the 3.8 star rating so.. I thought "it's Chinese food, how bad could it be?". Well... when I entered to pick up the food I was told I had to wait a few minutes. Unfortunately that only gave me time to observe the extremely dirty and run down restaurant. It was stuffy, everything was dusty, the carpet had crumbs all over even though there was a sticker on the door saying they Only did takeout ? So I'm not sure how long those crumbs have been there. It was also ironic because by right by the register and their takeout menus there was a brochure for a carpet cleaning service ? I digress. I could also see in to the kitchen and I could see it was also unkept. I ignored these red flags and my urge to leave because again- we were starving and nothing else in town was open. I paid $60 (with tip) for "cashew chicken", beef & broccoli, spring rolls and shrimp fried rice. To say the least - it was inedible . It all got thrown away . The fried rice was mushy, it had no soy sauce, the spring rolls looked like .... Giant nuggets of something ? Idk they were salty but not good. The cashew chicken had more celery than chicken and it was also in some sort of gravy ? The beef and broccoli was also insanely Horrible. Clearly frozen broccoli and mush. It was so bad. I feel bad because the older man cooking was sweet but also, the food and Cleanliness doesn't even deserve one star read more

I was very disappointed in the food and place. To be honest, my wife and I were both sick within a few hours after eating there. Only thing I figured it was food poisoning. The place is old and there was no one there the entire time we were there. I think the locals already know about this place. read more

The shrimp lo míen delicious. So was the sweet and sour pork and Szechwan beef. The offer no msg dishes and the man behind the counter ---I assume Mr Wong is very nice. Definitely my go to place when I eat out! read more

I went once...that's enough. Food was meh and the place was filthy. I'd rather go to the Thai truck.

I was hoping to leave a good review but honestly.... the food here is seriously gross. The only thing good was the rice. Everything we ordered was heavily loaded with grease and thats the only thing you can taste. The owners are very amazing, good friendly people. I think they havent been out into the world and tasted fresh , food though. I know they have been in the community for years and years but, the food is horrible. They should take a walk across the street to the thai food truck and taste fresh take out , to compare it to theirs. I believe that if they changed the interior of the restaurant, and changed the way they cooked the food, they would profit massively. for now , I wouldnt recommend eating here. The dining area is old, and worn out, and dusty and sad. the windows are never cleaned. its depressing read more

We were very pleased by the food at this take-out only Chinese place. Everything is cooked to order by the owner as you like it! Great portion sizes too. Senior meals are very resonably priced at $10 or less. read more

The wait time took forever, the poor waiter had no help in cooking our order and it was only takeout. They messed up our order. The waiter was nice and he helped us make our meal. Sometimes ya just gotta have Chinese food, well.... at least the Americanized version of Chinese food. I was hesitant on coming here since the reviews were both good and bad. Either way, I'm glad I went and tried it for myself. It was pretty good. The owner was super nice. A little hard to understand, but a little finger pointing did it's job. Clean cute place. You can see the ocean in the distance. Sit anywhere you like. When the owner came to take our order, I asked about the MSG. We figured out that if you don't want MSG in your food, they will NOT put it in. Well hey, that works for me. I ordered the Lo mien chicken dish, my daughter ordered the General Tso's chicken and my hubby ordered the Kung Po chicken. Average waiting time. The dishes came out HOT and fresh. I think my order was a mistake however. I actually ended up getting a Lo Mien soup instead of what I thought I was getting. Oh well, time to try something new. Everyone else got what they ordered. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed my noodle soup. Not spicy. Pretty mild. Chicken tasted like chicken and the veggies tasted fresh, not frozen. I did take a few small samples from everyone's dish just to see how they also tasted. Nom...Nom..Nom.... The General Tso's chicken was really good. Fresh, sweet and hot, spicy hot. I do remember the owner asking if we wanted it really hot or just a little hot. I thought I said little hot, but if this was little hot...it made me cry. Wonder what the HOT was like? The Kung Po chicken was also very good. Fresh, hot and spicy. Again, the chicken looked like chicken and tasted like chicken. Veggies were cut small and tasted fresh. Med spiced. I'd come back again. It's definitely worth a stop if your getting tired of fish. read more

Not the best food at all. Very disappointed. I don't know if it's because of covid or what it is. Hope they get a turn around. The man was very kind. The pork fried rice was just white rice with slices of pork on top. Hardly any taste. The sweet and sour chicken was soggy with sauce just drizzled on it. read more

The owners are very sweet, they have been in this town since I've been born. But my mom and I went in to pick up our food and the restaurant was dusty and the surfaces were covered in a film of grease. There were spider webs with grease debris in them. Two stars for being open. The food was mostly a miss though. Mar Far chicken tasted like old grease was used. Pork fried rice was steamed white rice with 5 slices of pork laid across the top. No vegetables at all. I've never seen anything like it. read more

Good awesome restaurant. Really nice owner made everything fresh from scratch. Be aware this is authentic chinese food not your typical american chinese fusion. So what you know as chow-mein... is Lo-Mein here. The orange chicken isnt doused with orange color and fatty sugars. Etc etc So if you only want american chinese food this isnt the place but if you want authentic chinese food then you can't go wrong here. I took off one star because I only give 5 stars to places that utterly stand out in every aspect. This one was close but being from so cal I have had a little better authentic chinese. read more

Updating my review, Penelope must have had some bad crack. Everything here is home made. If you prefer the frozen egg rolls you won't like theirs. NEVER had an egg roll like it. Exterior was thicker than I prefer but hey that's life. You may not like everything but this is a great place! Food for the money is great. Always more than I can eat, sweetest people ever!. My second time here. Again food was very good, prices are great and portions better than most. Not much of a crowd either time I've been here, which is a bit of a surprise for food this tastey and priced right. Really nice peeps, great service. Wish I lived here full time.Than I prefer read more

Wonderful food and wonderful people. The owner is the sweetest person! And the food was delicious! Can't wait to go back.

Food is just ok. Note they use MSG in some dishes, so you'll have to ask them not to. They have lots of cheap lunch specials from 11:30-3, and senior (55+) combo plates for dinner that are very reasonable. The "fried" rice does not appear to be fried. Lo Mein very salty, probably because of the MSG (wish I had noticed that on the menu). Very pleasant owner. Says it will take 1/2 hour to cook, but only took 15 minutes. Restaurant always empty-looking because they are still not allowing dine-in. Not sure why, all the other restaurants in town do. There aren't many choices for Chinese on the south coast, just 1 place per tiny town. PS: Even the fortune cookie here was stale & soft. :( read more

Look, there are just not a lot of restaurants in Gold Beach and suppose you want to take a break from seafood. Well then, here ya go with Wong's Café! When we first arrived on a misty night we were the only customers. We immediately liked the clean interior (restrooms are spotless) and soft Chinese instrumental music playing. We also liked that you could order your dishes without MSG. However, when we requested eggrolls, our waitress was honest and straightforward and cautioned that the eggrolls did contain MSG and suggested we try something else. So for an appetizer, we got fried wonton. Nothing special about the wonton, but we did like the sweet sauce with pineapple bits that came with the dish. They have several combination plates and four family style combinations, in addition to individual dishes. We went with the shrimp lo mein and the chicken moo goo gai pan. Admittedly, I couldn't recall what moo goo gai pan was, so I ordered it because I liked the name. Though the shrimp lo mein was rather oily, it was delicious and I had to restrain myself from wolfing it down. The moo goo gai pan was not much to look at, but was pleasant tasting. In addition to the chicken, it contained broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, water chestnuts and baby corn. Service was outstanding. And when it came to water refills, our waitress's service was so devoted it was humorous. A couple times after I had taken a only a few sips from my refilled glass, our waitress turned around and immediately refilled my glass. That kind of service really pleases me! read more

The Wong's are both great cooks. It's a Mom (Amy) and Pop (Mr. Wong) shop, that overlooks (in the distance) the ocean and the jetty of the Rogue River. Adjacent to Sunset Family Pizza. Ample parking on the side street next to the restaurant. Open weekdays for lunch and dinner, dinner only weekends and closed Tuesdays. Always clean and welcoming. We drive 25 miles one way for lunch at least once a month or so. The lunches specials are $7.25 and under (most are about $6). Lunch comes with hot tea, and soup. The Lo Mien (beef, chicken or veggie) is so tasty, that we almost always get that, along with the fried shrimp. Large portions and made special (no garlic etc.) on request. We have eaten here for 7 years and go out of our way to visit. We are sad to leave the area and not have the chance to enjoy. If we are ever in Gold Beach again this will be a 'for sure' stop. read more

We came upon Wong's Cafe as we drove into town late and it was one of the few restaurant's open. There it was, a rather nondescript, dated looking building where you had to use a side door to enter. Now, I have to preface this by acknowledging I grew up eating Cantonese-style Chinese food from the 50's and 60's in a farming town in the valley. Wong's reminded me so much of these Chinese eateries that were plentiful at the time - cantonese styled offerings, adapted to suit the taste buds of the local patrons, many of whom were Japanese and Filipino Americans. This is food I know and it was like visiting an old delicious memory. It was tasty, clean and good. That said, know this is not like the Chinese food you find today. All of which I eat on a regular basis. This is for the palette that wants unpretentious, flavorful, old-school cantonese food that was around before the influx of new Chinese schools of cuisine. This is its own, un-apologetic style. Measure your expectations accordingly. Then, enjoy the sepia-toned ambiance, Mr and Mrs Wong, and their honest, early Chinese American dishes. Been there, in the same spot for 31 years. it's good. I will go back. Oh, don't forget to ask for the mustard. read more

Kung Po Chicken - definitely an American Chinese dish (..) a bit oily and this is for sure not a Chinese Chinese dish.

I used to not like eating here years ago but a co worker told me it has gotten better. He was right the food taste fresh and is 100% better. I can't ever eat all of my food but it'd good for lunch the next day. read more

Being Asian, sometimes you need your comfort foods. That being said, was not expecting 5-star, gourmet Chinese food based upon reviews but how hard can it be to cook decent Chinese food, right? The place wasn't busy when I got there. The owners spoke Cantonese, and my hopes were raised. Maybe this will turn out to be a good experience! Foolish me... Settled on the 'Mar Poo' (or Mapo) tofu as it was chilly, and a warm, flavorful and spicy dish sounded appealing. The basic ingredients of this dish HAVE to include a spicy chili/bean based sauce, meat, fermented black beans and usually appears dark in color. 30mins later, I picked up my order and once the package was opened in my room, I found instead a pale looking concoction of tofu, meat, corn, carrots and other veggies. WTF? See pictures for a visual aid. For $8.50, I should have stuck with the more 'typical' dishes like 'Sweet & sour chicken with chow mein or pork fried rice', 'General Tao's chicken', and the like. At least I was more likely to get what I had in mind *pictures of their take-out menu are provided below* read more

We love this place. Old school Oregon Chinese. The egg rolls are sooooo good. handmade, batter dipped and deep fried. No joke. Legit and delicious. We have been coming to gold beach for one of our summer trips for about 6 years now. Just saw this place and thought we would check it out. Had seen the reviews, which are mostly great. My fellow Californian however claims it isn't as good as San Fran or la Chinese food. Completely disagree. The chow mein has a good balance of flavor, not overwhelming soy sauce flavor. The egg rolls were right up there with some top restaurants. I do agree that the fried rice is not what you would expect. Not seasoned but does have pork. A good accompaniment to a saucy dish like broccoli beef. The star for me was the sweet and sour chicken. It has a nice tempura like batter, not soggy or too crispy. There sauce is also very good. Not the artificial red sauce that so many seem to make. Very very good flavor and again, a good balance between sweet and sour. So for Those of you on the fence, go for it. One of the better restaurants In The area. We did take out, but the other reviewers speak highly of the courteous owners/staff. read more

Oh wow. I'm not certain, because I haven't been to China, but I don't think this food qualifies as Chinese. It's something else. It's not even good. We ordered food to go...pretty simple stuff: pork fried rice, chicken chow mien, egg rolls... We kept easy. Holy fortune cookie, Batman even the fortune cookies were stale!!! The 'fried rice' was regular rice with some dry pork pieces sitting on the top. The egg rolls were these two giant deep fried things when pried open revealed something that resembled a pot sticker. I couldn't eat it. We threw most of our food away. So disappointing. Don't eat here. You'll be happier going to the grocery store down the road. read more

This little cafe has a humble appearance but the food was delicious! I was greeted and served by a very kind woman - who, I believe, had also prepared the food. After I inquired about the difference between chow mein and lo mein she brought a small plate with each type of noodle to show me... what great service! I ordered the lunch special combination "SN1" and it was honestly the best Chinese noodles I've ever had! She adjusted the spice to my request and brought out small dishes of extra sauces to enjoy with the meal too. During my lunch I saw her kindly inquire with another patron about her family and also help the same patron up from her seat. The experience overall was warm, welcoming and delicious! I highly recommend it! read more
