The location is in a strip mall or town center area on 220. Tonight they are having a live band play on the patio. They have trivia,bingo brunch(Sunday) and kid nights. The Waiter was wonderful. When you go to the Hostess desk, she gives you a QR code to scan to look at the menu, or there is a huge menu board by the take out order area. I don't drink beer, so I did not try any. We've been planning to give this spot a shot ever since seeing it featured on @904happyhour so probably fair to say I had high expectations. We visited during a slow time of the late afternoon and were greeted by the hostess who encouraged us to sit wherever we would like and either order through the web based app or at the counter. Interesting set up - so we gave the QR code online ordering a whirl. They have free wifi which helped overcome the poor cell service we were having. Overall, it felt like a very impersonal experience due to the ordering service. I mean, for a small business, wouldn't you want to try to establish relationships with clientele/share your story/garner some buy in? For my boomer-and -beyond crowd I could see the online ordering being an issue. Self service soft drinks, plates, utensils... Definitely go for the Sharon bites. Little sourdough bites with beer cheese and vodka sauce that were really good. Would make for a perfect snacking item when enjoying a few beers. We went for the hot honey pepperoni pizza. Big fan of Mike's Hot Honey and love it on pizza so we figured it's a shoe in. Not a very visually appearing pie, but got the job done. Ultimately, it's a brewery that happens to serve food. I'd been wanted to try this place since I heard it was going to be opening, and I finally had the chance to do so! I was happy to see they had an outdoor seating area when we arrived. Upon going inside, they had a pretty expansive menu posted above the counter. It's the type of place where you order at the counter and they bring you your order when it's ready rather than true table service. With that being said, our interactions with staff were very pleasant. For sports fans, there's TVs galore, and we elected to watch the Army game airing at the time during lunch. I settled on the on the BBQ Bacon Chicken Pizza, and my wife had the Pepperoni Hot Honey Pizza. Both were amazing and very flavorful, but also only approximately 12 inches in size. I loved the crispy doughy crust in particular. I elected to try a flight of their beer brewed in-house, and my wife decided to try their Ginger Mule. While all of these were tasty, we were, however, pretty disappointed to discover that our order cost over $70 for a lunch! I would love it if the prices could be a bit more reasonable. Stop by our newest addition to Fleming island, barley and pie. The place has totally been revamped. Refreshed and looks brand new, very colorful and bright. The bar was huge and still was packed and everyone was having a good time. I asked the bar keep to give me his best IPA,and he gave me a glass of it's always raining in fleming island, the name was awesome just like the beer. They offer 3 IPA's on their taps. And the best part is, they're all located in cans also so if you like them, you can take some home. My friend had a Smashburger which smelled great and looked really nice. We have been wanting to try Barley ans Pie since they opened! It's a little out of the way for us but we are so happy we went! When you walk in its open seating and you can order from your table (using a QR code) or up at the counter. I ordered from the QR code and our friends ordered at the counter. The staff were super friendly and helpful. My husband really enjoyed their beer. I really enjoyed the craft cola that was at their fountain. They have a full bar that you can sit at. Their bathrooms had a changing table and were VERY clean! We ordered the Sharon appetizer which are sourdough balls with parmesan and garlic served with homemade beer cheese and homemade vodka sauce. Holy moly were they good! The dough was perfectly crunchy and chewy! Both sauces were were a perfect pairing! For our pizza we ordered their Quattro Formaggi White (Hand-dipped Ricotta, Mozzarella, Parmesan, Pecorino Romano, Sicilian Oregano, Lemon Zest, Olive Oil) it was very good and cheesy! Our friends ordered the Meat Sweats which had a ton of meats piled high....and it stole the show! The crust was stuffed with cheese curds!!!! As a dessert we ordered the bengiets. What a fun a delicious place. We stopped in for a quick lunch during back to school shopping and a visit to my parents. While we didn't try the beer or cocktails, they sounded great. We shared an order of the burrata which was served over pesto and roasted beets, alongside some of the most delicious bread I've ever had. I never would have paired pesto and beets, but now i don't know how I'll enjoy it any other way. Our son ordered the smash burger with kettle chips. it was a nice sized burger, loaded with toppings, and the chips were fresh and crisp. My husband and I had a regular cheese pie with vodka sauce. We are on a huge vodka sauce kick right now and this was delicious and flavorful. The sourdough crust was thin but not soggy, and we absolutely loved it. Adore the mastiff mascot and the entire vibe. Barley & Pie I visited this place thinking I was going to the restaurant that was in this previous location. Having already driven there we decided to stay and try it out. We had a little time to kill for a lunch break. This place is not set up like a family restaurant it is more of a sports bar. There are several TVs with different things to watch. You can sit inside or outside (under the tent that is set up in the parking lot of the shopping center-- think Christmas tree Sales/Fireworks.) there are several TVs to choose from with different sports games to watch throughout the restaurant. You must order your food at the counter, much like a fast food place, as there is no wait staff for each specific table. After you finish placing your order, you are given a number to take to the table of your choosing and the food is brought to you once it is prepared. There is a very limited menu of different types of pizza and beer. You can choose from their recipes, but you can also build your own with toppings of your choice. The prices are most definitely too high for what you actually get. A SINGLE PERSON 3-topping pizza $25+! I have included pictures of the pizzas that we ordered. They were not very tasty in our opinion. One was built and one was one of their recipes, but neither tasted very good. As you can see, they also came out burnt. Come try this place: that's what we would say to potential customers of Barley and Pie. Like many restaurants it has its positives and negatives, of which we can argue but it's where you fall in those categories that will determine if you like it or not. We liked the pizza we ordered, a 12 inch Margarita pizza with sausage, mushrooms, and red peppers. It arrived quickly with a slightly burnt crust and very little sauce. That's how we like it, you may not. Price wise it was high, with the three extra ingredients costing $2 each to equal $23 dollars for one pizza. Is it worth it? Maybe. It is a craft brewery with a good variety of beers and ciders on tap. Combined with a full bar and sodas there is plenty to drink. The restaurant was fairly loud on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Music ranges from old to new and is played fairly loud. Ordering is either at the counter or at the table via a QR code for the menu. We were there during Sunday brunch and could not locate the drink specials on the menu. The craft beer was cold and unremarkable while my partner's Ace pineapple was good as expected and came with a slice of pineapple on the rim. Overall it was a bit loud with the cafeteria type seating. The ordering process is very impersonal and we wanted explanations that were lacking. If you haven't been to Barley & Pie in Fleming Island - YOU ARE MISSING OUT. My husband and I were at an event where the host had ordered some pies from Barley & Pie and we are OFFICIALLY HOOKED. We've been 3 times in 2 short weeks. The pizza's are made on sourdough crust... for some reason I didn't think it would be great, I'm not a big sourdough fan. WRONG. It's amazing. And now our tummies don't hurt after pizza Not a pizza fan? They have some incredible sandwiches that some members of our group ordered and loved. We were also impressed with their in house brewed beers. Such a nice addition to our food options in Fleming Island. And it's so nice to support a locally owned business. We liked the pie and the beer, very interesting menu. We had to wait 15 minutes for our beer. We were sitting at a table and ordered on toast. The problem wasnt the bartender she did her job right away. The problem was expediting and running it to our table. The pizza was brought one minute after our beer. The food prep and beer was fast but delivering it to tables didn't seem to be consistent. They were busy but not swamped: I think it is growing pains and training with being new. I realize food runners are entry level starter jobs typically. It was clean inside. Saw a dart on the floor that you have to supposedly pick up from the bartender, so not sure how someone turned in darts without realizing one was missing. I tried barley and pie their opening week - maybe 4 to 5 days of being open. The kitchen, staff, bar was so organized and clean. I was so impressed. I really like that you can view what is going on in the kitchen from their dining area, bar, and order counter. That's a nice touch. And their fancy roasting pizza oven, wow! Very cool. Would love to own one of those on a fancy patio one day, hahaha. I tried a few things while here. The Wisconsin cheese curds, ravioli pizza, and the pepperoni hot honey pizza (not pictured) also, a bar drink! A tangerine margarita. I loved the pepperoni and hot honey pizza best with the cheese curds. My margarita was very tasty. The bar makes these drinks using amazing ingredients (not store bought mixes) I know this bc I watched the bartender make it. Get the beer and drinks here! Very good quality. I was not the biggest fan of the ravioli pizza but that's ok. That obviously was ordered by me just because why not, lol. Why not have pasta and pizza all in one. It was a fun try. I will say the sourdough was very good! I loved dipping my crust in regular honey and eating it. I literally could have just had some plain sourdough with honey and been a happy camper. Their dough is quite good! Ok so why not 5 stars with the way I've worded this entire review: two minor things: The prices in my opinion were quite high for the one size pizza option you get. You'll definitely spend $20 a pop on most of the pizza options (cheese curds also priced high) Not a big deal of course; let's call it a beige flag. Second beige flag: I did make sure to tell the staff at the order counter it's my first visit to the restaurant mainly bc I wanted their help with telling me where to start so I don't hold up the order line. I wasn't informed that I needed to go grab my plates, napkins, utensils, honey, parm, water from another area before sitting down. Is that a big deal; No. I'm fully capable of getting my Big Back self up and fetching it. I'm way too comfortable in a restaurant setting given my former server and bartender days anyway. I easily find my way around. Where I see it being a possible problem is with I'd say; families or older crowds who won't assume this is what you do. If the staff doesn't bring that or provide those for you upon ordering, a casual mention when the customer orders would be most helpful to avoid any upset boomers (no shade boomers, I'm referring to ones who may not go out very much) or families with their hands full with kids and such. Again, I did visit a week into Barley & Pie being open and the staff that helped me was new, young and fresh, very kind and sweet. I didn't have a problem at all but I know if let's say my parents went with me, mid 60 year olds who don't go out much, lol, they would be like well damn, this is a pricey place to be grabbing all this stuff and serving myself. *insert silent eye roll from myself here. I'm sure you get the point. Different scenarios for different people and situations. A good way to avoid any possible negative feedback would be to make sure you tell the customers they need to grab their mis en place themselves, and point them as to where they can snag said items. Okay with this book of a review like normal, lol, I'm going to wrap this up. Should you visit barley and pie, hell yes. Bring your dogs, enjoy the outdoor patio, or don't bring your dogs, and enjoy the very comfy bar seats! I popped a squat at one of their picnic tables inside for dinner, then moved to the bar for a second drink while I waited for the rain to calm down on my visit. Finally got in to Fleming Island's newly opened brewery-and we will definitely be back! Since it was our first time-we headed up to the bar to try a few beers. Bartenders were super friendly and willing to answer all our questions. I got the Red and hubby got the Peanut Butter Stout- gave both 2 thumbs up! Then found a table (watch your feet-almost killed myself on the leg to one of the benches which stick out!). Super easy ordering using a QR code that links directly to your table. Ordered the Cheese Curds first-which came out within minutes and were probably the best I've had here in Florida (being from the Wisconsin border-I can be quite the cheese curd snob). They offer 2 sauces with the cheese curds-ranch and another (can't remember the name ). That "other" sauce was SO yummy! I ended up dipping everything in it!! We also ordered a garlic bread pizza and a cheese pizza with sausage. The Garlic bread pizza was delicious, although next time I will ask for a different dipping sauce on the side. Sausage pizza was devoured . For a Wednesday night, the place was busy-but easily able to find a table inside or outside. The bacon Mac and cheese pizza was delicious. I'm not normally the guy to eat the crust, but that sour dough crust was spectacular with just the right amount of chew. I only tried one of their beers but it was delicious (if you like IPA, it's always raining in Fleming Island is citrusy and very smooth). The only complaint I have is that you can't run a tab and every time you want to order something else, it's a whole new ticket. The fact that we were here for between 45 - 60 minutes and only got one drink is testament to how much I dislike having a bunch of different transactions when I go out for dinner. We wanted to try this place today. We walked right in and was greeted right away. It is cafeteria style seating except the bar. My wife ordered a coke and i started with the tangerine ipa, it wasnt for me but then i ordered its raining in fleming island and that was my style. My wife and i ordered the house salad with blue cheese, wonderful, we ordered the garlic bread pizza for appetizer, amazing, and margarita pizza for dinner, pretty good if i do say so myself. The crust was good and as my wife stated we will be back. Overall i would say the staff was great to. A good experience all around. It was pricey but i think it was worth it. It was our first visit the loaded tater Tots were the best part of the meal. We both had wings I love wings but it's pretty hard to eat them when they come uncut just in the full wing trying to pull them apart. It was a real pain in the butt. I recommendation is to cut the wings before you serve them. That's just me. The menu board is very confusing I recommend to scan the QR code. It would be nice to have a menu to read but I know it's the new way of doing business. There really isn't any service they do have a runner that brings you your meal. They do not take cash but that's not a big deal. We had 2 orders of wings loaded torts and 2 ice teas totaling $49.00 a bit more than we expected. Absolute spur of the moment decision and all I can say is win! The service was awesome and our server Drew was exceptional. The Sharon bites app was simple yet amazing for it to just be sourdough bites, but paired with the beer cheese and marinara dipping sauces made it, also the portion size was huge! I'm ordered the hot honey pepperoni pizza and my better half got the chicken parm sandwich, both exceptional. I'm a pizza connoisseur and this rates in my top ten from across the entire US. After a long day driving my husband, sister and I stopped for a pizza and beer. The place was busy given how late it was. You order thru an app or at the counter. We had a hard time with the app (we are older) so ordered at the counter. We got a couple of beers, wine and 2 pizzas. One was a pepperoni and the other pepperoni with hot honey. My husband is picky about his pizza ( he is from Buffalo and has to have cupped pepperoni!). He loved the pizza and my sister and I loved the pepperoni with hot honey. Pleasantly surprised at the changes they have made, honestly I love when a business evolves to better serve their clientele. I wholeheartedly believe this is a great family restaurant now. They now have a hostess stand, someone welcomes you at the door and brings you to your table, a server comes and takes your orders instead of ordering at the counter. Server checks on you continuously and the little green divider between the high tops/bar area and the sit down area was a welcomed addition it feels like two different areas completely and I was super comfortable with my kids. Jordan our server was a delight and his recommendation to add bacon to the buffalo chicken ranch was (chefs kiss) it really should come with the bacon as it really does elevate the whole flavor profile.
