First time being back since whiteys ownership switched and I really enjoy it! They kept the charm of whiteys but incorporated the Harry's Seafood menu I love so much. Calamari was crispy with a good balance of breading and meat. We got the pistachio crusted grouper and the andouille crusted chicken which was super delicious! You're able to ask for hush puppies as a secret side which I highly recommend alongside their mashed potatoes (very well seasoned). We had about a 30 minute wait for a group of 9 at about 8:30pm on a Friday. Our waitress was very attentive though. We sat nearby the live band which made it hard to converse but the music was lovely. read more

May 2026 new ownership review/update : Still the same old places, a few subtle changes, looks like a restaurant on the inside now, but the outside is still the same fish Camp atmosphere... nice menu, some new things, some of the old things are gone, but that's apples and oranges. Overall, I think anytime you get new management in and they're willing to freshen up things, in the long run it's a good thing. You can't keep what's old old forever, everything's got to be refreshed. Now, all you need to do is get rid of those tiny drinking glasses and get the largER plastic restaurant glasses... I know there's value (for the owners and nobody else) in having a waitress continually run back-and-forth to your table to refill your drink (yeaaaa, good service!) but that's not for me, give me a good size drink and everybody's happy! Don't take away too much of what this place used to be, don't refresh too much, and don't try to add or subtract too much... Remember, this was a successful business and most of us like it just the way it was... Most of it. And oh, get some big boy french fries, these little half size things don't work... Also, still no shrimp and catfish Poboys on the menu? Original review: Good place to eat, one of my favorites, on weekdays, I have never had any problems with the food or service here, so rest assured. 6/18/26. Our book club came here for lunch. I was curious if it had changed since it sold...lots of people were concerned it would be torn down for condos or something but it appears it's staying a restaurant in the same seafood atmosphere it was. The difference inside they have lightened it up and recovered the booths and such. Outside one can still come by boat and eat outside on the porch/porches! Menu has changed a bit, gotten more expensive. The whole back of the menu is all alcohol drinks! I ordered a platter grilled mahi with one side ($19); the mahi was good and the collards were hot, seasoned and I liked but one of the other ladies had to request a diff side. Others got shrimp tacos, fried grouper sandwich (one side) and a Cobb salad. They seemed to enjoy but few "to go boxes". Maybe they should have lunch specials? We had not eaten at Whitey's in quite some time because of it very fried menu. We heard new owners/new menu and decided to give it a try. The service was excellent from the time we sat down to paying our bill. The restaurant still had the same great fish camp vibe with indoor/outdoor or bar seating. There was live music when we were there so there wasn't any available outdoor dining. We ordered the fish dip as an appetizer and blackened grouper for our meal. We used to really enjoy Whitey's Fish Camp and have been coming here for years, so unfortunately this visit was extremely disappointing. This was our first time back since the ownership change, and it definitely isn't the Whitey's we remember. The inside has been painted and brightened up and looks nice, but unfortunately the food and menu seem to have gone in the opposite direction. Several things we used to enjoy are no longer on the menu. What I ordered was very bland, and the portion was noticeably smaller than what we used to get here. For a place we once looked forward to visiting, the food was a huge disappointment. Then, as we were finishing our meal, my husband pointed out a large palmetto bug crawling on the window about two feet away from where I was sitting. I understand that this is Florida, and I understand that restaurants with outdoor areas and doors opening and closing can occasionally have a bug get inside. But seeing a large, very much alive palmetto bug crawling that close to our table completely finished the experience for me. I immediately got up and told the staff. Our waitress was very apologetic and offered us a discount for a future visit. None of this was her fault, and we still tipped her. On our way out, the manager also apologized and handed my husband three $10-off cards to use on future visits. I appreciate the apology, but honestly, if the restaurant wanted to make things right, taking $30 off the meal we had just eaten sitting two feet from a palmetto bug would have made a lot more sense than giving us $30 in coupons to come back. After the changes to the menu, disappointing food, smaller portions, and then the bug, we had already decided there wouldn't be a next time. It's really unfortunate because Whitey's used to be such a great place--the kind of place where we could dock the boat, have a good meal, and head back out on the water. We have a lot of good memories here. I really hope the new owners can turn things around, but sadly, this visit ended those memories on a pretty bad note for us. read more

I met my future daughter-in-law! Brooklyn is an absolute sweetheart that we had the privilege of having as our lunch server on Saturday. This was my first-ever dining experience in Jacksonville, Florida, and it couldn't have made a better impression. The service was warm, friendly, and genuinely top-tier. From the host, to Brooklyn, to her mom Amy (yes, I got to meet my future in-laws), to even the random staff who rescued me when I got lost looking for the bathroom -- every single person we met was welcoming and kind. The Gilligan's Island-style atmosphere, complete with a gas pump on the outdoor deck, was new for me. I'm a Boston city guy now living in LA, so this kind of "Florida coastal dive-chic" was a first -- and I loved every bit of it. Food-wise? Phenomenal. The shrimp bisque was a revelation -- my first time trying it, since I've always been a lobster bisque loyalist. But this one? Creamy, buttery, and left an aftertaste so good it felt like the bisque kissed you back. The white wine cream pasta was so incredible I demolished it too fast, then kept picking at everyone else's food. I didn't realize how full I was until hours later... and even now, three days later back home in LA, I'm still craving it enough to plan another trip to Jacksonville before the year's out. The food was a solid 3. We ordered the crab crusted redfish, fried catfish, shrimp, scallops, house fries, red beans and rice, and slaw. The fried were crispy perfection. The catfish need additional seasoning. The redfish was tasty...lived the crab topping. It was just a bit overcooked. The sides were great. The server, Corey...sublime! He anticipated every need. He was friendly but not overbearing. His great service and the beautiful view elevated our experience to a solid 4?rating. The restaurant recently reopened with a new menu and new ownership. Whitey's has been purchased by Harry's Restaurants of St. Augustine. It has been "refreshed" and our Red Hats, here for the May monthly luncheon, enjoyed the decor--plenty of fish and animals on the walls, along with a striking mural. We all chose something different, I believe, for our meals but everyone said they enjoyed the food. There was a delay in being seated because there was a mix-up in where the waitstaff had been assigned. Also, there are no reservations so even though I called ahead twice (once in April and then the night before) to alert the staff that we had about twelve people coming, they really were not ready for us. Still we got to eat together and most of us try to go with the flow (there's always one, though, and I apologize that she expressed her impatience to the servers who had no control over either the seating delay or when the food was ready). There was at least one other large group and even another Red Hat chapter! I had the broiled redfish and Cole slaw. Our waitress made me a special drink with grenadine syrup--see photo. Excellent! Stopped by for happy hour and dessert. We got a pound of peel and eat a shrimp (not included on happy hour) and the fried mushroom (half off). Was disappointed they no longer have their bread pudding, but we got the lava cake instead and it was delicious. Our server was great. She checked on us a lot and everyone else they're working was so polite. I got caught up, looking at all the critters hanging from the ceiling and almost bumped into one of them and we had a good laugh. This place has critters and decor all over the place which makes it very interesting to just look around. I thought the alligator fish was hilarious. My server had the personality of a dead finish. I'm not fully up on service etiquette, but you don't slide a plate across a table. I believe it should be served from the left side. Whites is not all that formal, but you shouldn't push a plate across a table navigating between the glasses on the table and the salt and pepper. Now the food; I ordered the salmon and it was perfect! The slaw was very tasty as well. The Red Beans and Rice...SUCKED! It was colder than the cold slaw! Under new ownership and recently renovated, we decided to go with neighbors and give it a try again. The duality had deteriorated for several of the past few years. The new menu incorporates some of Harry's Cajun dishes and the fried food was reduced. New flooring and decor but true to the original fish camp vibe. A children's area has been added for young families and the pool room removed. Less of a bar scene atmosphere now. Service staff was retained from previous staff. Our (2 seniors) lunch typically cost ~$40 including a 20%+ tip, and we left with a full meal for dinner. Today: Ordered the same type of meal (fried fish sandwich/1 side and fried shrimp/1 side; soft drinks. Peyton gave us great, friendly service, but $55 for that lunch and tip is just too much for us. I am here to tell you, Corporate buyout stole the soul of this place. Menu has changed, vibe has changed, service has changed and none for the better. Atmosphere is good, location is good, parking is an absolute nightmare, particularly on the weekend evenings. People are parking half a mile down the road and walking. Parking is so willy-nilly. The music is nice, the atmosphere is cool, the food is OK, it's not great, it's not terrible, it's just OK. They're selling the atmosphere not the food. We come here, maybe once every six months to listen to some music and hang out with some friends. I'm sure we'll continue to do so although after the last Parking debacle Ware, it took me 25 minutes to find a parking space driving in circles, I'm seriously rethinking it. read more

Make sure you check your receipts and count your change Elizabeth at the door try to take $20 from me by telling me she could not give me a receipt before I paid and taking $30 in vouchers from me and only taking 20 out of that 30 off of my bill, she told me my bill was $47 even I gave her $50 total. She gave me back $8.20 and change after I get the receipt and see it's only $33.20 I then call the manager over saying she only took $20 off out of the total 30 and vouchers and for one big problem. She told me the wrong total and gave me back change for the wrong total 1000% felt like a scam smells like a scam and I almost got scammed. Had I not looked and checked it. Very disappointing the customer service in this place has gone drastically downhill. The food has gone drastically downhill. The chicken is rubber chicken the chicken that used to be before this last people bought it over was delicious juicy tender. Now it's rubber doesn't even feel real feels like the crap in the grocery stores when you're waitress won't give you a receipt before you pay for your food. That is a big giant red flag when she lies and tells you and her manager two different stories. Another huge red flag lied to me about my total lied to her manager about the vouchers I gave her. I have never been this upset she 1000% tried to scam me out of over $20 in one transaction disgusting. Customer service has gone drastically downhill. The weight staff is incredibly rude. I was surprised how fast our food was delivered. The location is the absolute best part. It's on a creek with docks and boats. The decorating inside is super cool. I really loved the ambiance. It's too bad my dad is moving away, because I'd come here every time I was in town. Based on my experience, I'm genuinely surprised they have 3.6 stars. Came here with my boyfriend's family because his nana loves the fish sandwiches here. The sandwich was pretty good, very crispy, almost like a chicken sandwich. I had the shrimp scampi which was also pretty good, pretty standard shrimp scampi, they did not cheap out on the shrimp, but the noodles were quite broken up. The fries were solid and calamari was soft and crispy. If you love fish sandwiches you'll have to come here. We sat inside but they also have outdoor seating by the water which is pretty cool. It's tradition to go to Whitey's whenever we visit my in-laws. The service is attentive and accommodating. No matter what you like, there is something there for you. Everything I have had is delicious, from crab legs to steak, or fish and chips, it is all yum! They make their own sauces and recently revamped their menu and did some renovations.
