Great food lot's of can't wait to go again great food nice atmosphere. Excited about going back

    This was for 1 beer!

Stumbled here after a Salsa event I went to at Underbelly. We wanted something open after hours. It's a reggae/hip hop club. Music was great but man you pay $10 to get in and on top of the a drink is $25 and beer is $10!! They lost their mind. Then we went to eat at their cafe. The food was ok. I had the beef Patties but they were out of potato bread. I guess I can't complain since it was like 3 am. Lol so I guess I shouldn't complain. All in all. You're paying for the fact that it's an after-hours spot. I recommend to not get crazy with those expensive drinks.

Lunch buffet with jerk and fried chicken. This is legit!

Nice little Caribbean place with lunch time buffet. Have driven by here a lot but happy to finally try this place today. The lunch buffet is $10.99 and drinks are separate. Had delicious jerk chicken, yellow curry with chicken and potato, mixed vegetables with cabbage and carrots (so good!) fried chicken, yellow rice, and salad. The mixed vegetables with cabbage and garlic were so good, they were pan seared in garlic and oil, addictive really. I had a couple of servings. Finished up with a nice small scoop of homemade peach cobbler from the buffet. It is as good as it sounds, warm and sweet, with a touch of tartness. My coworkers got some goat meat pies and really enjoyed them too. Will definitely come back and the jerk chicken is off the chain!

I've been here a few times when I have a craving for curry chicken but unfortunately this time my craving wasn't satisfied. My meal didn't have much chicken, more bones which was disappointing. I swapped out vegetables and plantain for extra rice not realizing I'd be charged $2.00 for the swap. Wish they would have told me. Prices are reasonable and they have a buffet at lunch time.

Beef wrap, curry chicken, jerk seasoned pork, steamed vegetables over a bed of yellow rice.

Service: This is a self service buffet. They ask that you put on gloves before handling the spoons. The tables are pretty clean. The plates are clean too. The buffet itself is best when the restaurant opens. That is when the food is the most fresh. They replenish the food actively at the start of the service. If you arrive near the end of the lunch hour they don't replenish the food all that much. So the freshness can start to tapper off near the end. This is a big reason for the three stars. Its understandable not to replenish food if you ran out or at the final moment of a lunch service. However with respect to consumer's payment it should also be understandable not to give five stars if the quality is not sustained throughout the advertised hours. Something to keep in mind before deciding to come for lunch. Food The food is delicious. They offer cooked vegetables, a mixture of cabbage, and other greens. Awesome taste. They have lots of protein options from jerk seasoned pork, chicken, goat and as well curry options. They have beef wraps, fish wraps and different selections of rice. Overall this was tasty food and seasoned great. I am not an expert on Jamaican cuisine so I won't go into depth on the flavor profile or style of delivery but it was equal balance between spice level and flavor. Cost The lunch buffet is a reasonable cost. Considering the food quality, taste, and friendly service it makes a great experience. However near halfway through the lunch buffet service they do stop replenishing the food and what is left is left.

They are now located on the upper level now for the weekday lunch hours. The buffet is wonderful. It is :$10.99 now. They are in the former Zodiac Grill location on the corner of Hogan and Forsythe Streets. The underground one is still open on the weekends. They have bands on the weekends performing. There might be a cover charge to get in. You also might have to screen through with the Security Guard/Bouncer on the weekends to get in as well. Have your ID's ready. You have to see this buffet with your own eyes. Jamaican food.

The Cypher Open Mic Poetry & Soul - every 1st 3rd & 5th Thursday at De Real Ting Cafe! Only $5
    Marie F.

De Real Ting Cafe has converted me. I may never attend a "club" night but I'm in love with the Poetry Nights. Spice up 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursdays with open mic nights with talent, laughter, poetry, rhythm, song, good food, a few drinks and friends. Come share your new, developing, or old works of poetry with fellow poetry enthusiasts. Or just sit back and enjoy the entertainment. Jacksonville is filled with talent, but there are poets and performers coming from all over the country. (There was a guy from Minnesota or Montana? and United Kingdom to name a brief few). Show starts about 9pm. That gives you plenty of time to order some food ($5 Delicious wings) and.grab a few drinks. The 3-4-1 special on wells and $3 wine can't be beat. I think it might be open to 18+ since I was banded. But that might have just been to allow free reentry. Only down side - club is located downstairs and cellphone signals is nonexistent if you're with AT&T or Sprint. Sing loud, rap proud, speak easy, be free!

Instead it's been replaced with a freezer of ice cream cups where customers are instructed to select one or be charged additionally for a second cup. It's quite disappointing. Otherwise, the food was okay on the Asian cuisine side. The American side was full of fried and fatty foods per usual. Don't forget that after sitting an hour, you will be pestered to make payment even when the restaurant is not at full capacity. I am writing this on Easter during dinner. Well, enjoy if you go but ask yourself where did the hospitality go? How did we go from unlimited ice cream at a Buffett to being limited to 1 cup per person?

The only food that had any flavor was the Mac n cheese. The steak was too tough to chew, the chicken was dry, and the shrimp were rubbery. After we got our first plate and sat down, the waitress came over and asked if everything was OK. Never seen her again after that. Then, it is definitely overpriced at 36 dollars for 2. We visited on a Friday for lunch, and the dining room was about 40% full--comfortable, not crowded, and easy to enjoy. ** Pros ** * Atmosphere: -- The space is surprisingly nice for a buffet. Two walls feature projected moving murals, and another showcases a large mountain scene. It creates a relaxing, modern vibe. * Food Quality: -- Everything we sampled--and we sampled a lot in small portions--was consistently good. -- Temperatures were spot‑on: soups were hot, desserts were properly chilled. -- Flavors were on par with other Asian buffets in Jacksonville, and in some cases better. -- The hibachi station is on the smaller side, offering two meats and a handful of vegetables. It's possible they expand options at dinner. -- Sushi selection was solid, with all the standard rolls you'd expect. -- The pork bun was the best I've had in town. It was light and had a great taste. * Value: At around $14 per person for lunch, we felt the price matched the quality and variety offered. ** Cons ** * Limited Variety: The overall assortment isn't as large as some of the newer buffets that have opened in the past year. Maybe the assortment is a bit larger at dinner or on the weekends. ** Overall ** We felt the visit was worth the drive from the Southside, and we'd happily stop by again when we're in the area.

Service was attentive and quick to clear plates, which is key when you're making multiple rounds (and yes... you will). It's also a great family option. They have many options to choose from in terms of different meats, greens, sushi, desserts, noodles, and more. How it works is you choose the soup of choice to cook the things on and then you go up and fill your place with what you want to cook. You can add things to the soup or on the hot pot to cook. They also have sushi and dumplings already made to eat. I've tried the traditional soup and the tom yum I believe it's called. I like the tom yum better because it has more flavor. You are cooking your own stuff so make sure it's done lol! Both servers both times were nice and attentive in changing out the stove you cook on and taking your dirty plates. Cool experience for sure!

We decided upon this place based on reviews, including from all our oldest grandchild, who said that he had been taken here and everyone enjoyed it. we knew it had previously been a Japanese/Asian grill for many years, but now it is a Korean style barbecue and hot pot.m, so we stopped in. first be aware that this is not a cheap meal, it was $37 per adult. that said, you get access to a variety of proteins and options. I will also say that my experience was quite a bit different than that of my wife. to start, you get one type of flavored broth for your hot pot in which to cook proteins or vegetables. The table also comes with a built-in grill if you choose to Cook that way. My wife selected the mushroom broth base and I chose the pork broth base. I must say, my wife added her own spices/sauces and enjoyed her broth so much that she shared with me and it greatly enhanced my experience. We enjoyed it so much so that we took the remainder home - there was a by weight up charge for taking this or anything else home. initially I felt that was a little expensive ($5) for taking home What amounted to 2 cups of broth, but we made Ramen out of the next day and it was the best Ramen I've had in a long time, so kudos to my wife for having seasoned it so well. my pork broth was not very flavorful, but I was being lazy and did not add any sauces to it, so I was disappointed, but frankly that is probably on me. In the middle of the restaurant is a very clean and well stocked protein buffet that has all types of seafood, pork, chicken, and beef offerings. I selected many of these, and went directly to the grill instead of cooking some of them in the hot pot. i ended up over cooking several of them before adding them into my hot pot, and they weren't good, but once again my disappointment is in part due to my impatience or inattentiveness. my wife enjoyed her selections very much because she didn't overcook her proteins. my favorite thing was the beef Bulgogi and Korean short ribs, which I grilled (or my wife did) and these were delicious, marinated in an excellent sauce and I frankly could've and should've probably just eaten several plates of this. they had a sushi/dessert bar with typical fare; my wife did not partake in any of this. I tried several of the sushi rolls and they were OK -- frankly this is probably not what you would gravitate to if you're going to a hot pot/Korean barbecue restaurant. their desert offerings were fine: I enjoyed the tiramisu and the Asian style donuts, which were very doughy, but I love them. My wife thought they were just meh. they were alcoholic options, but we were already going to be at $90 with tip and take home broth so we just had waters. I apologize for forgetting the servers name, but his service was excellent, due to attentiveness, explanation of the options, and making sure our drinks were consistently refilled. The ambience was nice, modern, clean. so my take away is that this would be closer to a 3.5 star review versus a four, as this was expensive and everything that I tried other than the grilled Bulgogi and what my wife shared that she had added to her broth) was just OK. However, my wife enjoyed the meal so much, that alone is worth it. Also, I should attribute some of the "disappointment" to my own laziness or overcooking of the proteins on the grill. I would go back for another special occasion, but at the price point, it would not be a weekly choice.
