I want to be very honest about my experience with this shop, because it may help others. This is a father and son shop. The father is a skilled mechanic and has done solid work for me in the past. The issue is with the son, who is not a mechanic but runs the front end of the business. Unfortunately, he has been dishonest with me multiple times. On my BMW, I once asked them to replace the harmonic balancer. The car sat at the shop for several days and nothing was done. I had paid $300. While it was there, my door handle broke. His father eventually fixed it, but it was my first red flag. Another time, they did an undercarriage repair. This was part of a repair for many things which amounted to around $3000 invested in the shop. Later, the undercarriage literally fell off on the freeway -- very dangerous in hindsight. On an oil change, I specifically asked about the oil filter. The son told me it was already installed. When I checked at home, he had lied -- no new filter had been put in. Most recently, I took my Suburban in for an exhaust manifold leak. The son told me it would be close to $1,000, which I said was too expensive. I asked for a better price, and he said he would do it for $500. I assumed that meant he would actually repair the manifolds. Instead, he held my car for almost two weeks, never returned calls, and when I finally got the vehicle back after calling everyday because he held the car for almost 2 weeks, he said he had installed a coolant level sensor and fixed the noise coming from the manifold -- adding for a total of $540. When I later checked, there was no new coolant sensor. The manifold issue was never repaired. The truck still leaks fumes to this day. If I hadn't asked for the receipt, I wouldn't even know what he claimed to have done -- the receipt listed 2 manifold gaskets and 1 coolant sensor. That's when I knew he didn't install new manifolds but simply slapped on gaskets which I believe were never installed on the passenger side. He told me he gave me a "great deal," but that was a lie. I can still smell the fumes. And the part that showed me the most disrespect: this shop sometimes gives rides to customers. Twice, the son picked me up in my own car -- the same vehicle that was supposed to be in the shop for repairs. That's not just unprofessional, it's dishonest and insulting. The lesson I learned: maybe if you can afford to pay a lot more, they'll treat you better. But the attitude, the dishonesty, and the way this was handled leaves me with a bitter taste I won't forget. In short: The father is good at his craft. The son is the problem -- dishonest, evasive, and takes advantage of customers. Because of this, I will never bring my vehicles back here again. If you do choose this shop, make sure you are dealing directly with the father, not the son. P.S. (Update): After posting this review, the shop responded claiming that replacing the manifolds was never part of the agreement and that the work was only for gaskets. Let me be clear: The conversation was never framed as "gaskets only." It was presented as fixing the exhaust leak problem for $500. If the scope was limited to gaskets and the leak would still remain, that should have been said upfront. It wasn't. Their own invoice lists "2 exhaust manifold gaskets" and "1 coolant level sensor." Yet no coolant sensor was ever replaced, and they now deny that was even part of it. They also claimed I still owe a balance. That's false -- I paid $540 in full at the time I picked up the truck. I did my homework -- I have the invoice in hand that lists "2 exhaust manifold gaskets" and "1 coolant level sensor." The sensor was never replaced, and the fumes are still present. Claiming I owe a balance is also false, since I paid $540 in full at pickup. Telling customers to "do their homework" doesn't excuse failing to disclose that the repair being offered (gaskets only) would not actually fix the exhaust leak. That omission is exactly why I left this review -- and inventing a false claim that I still owe money only adds to the dishonesty. The bottom line: He originally said replacing the manifolds would be close to $1,000 (because that's what he charged a previous customer). I told him my budget was around $500, and he said "fine, I'll do it." At no point was it explained that this cheaper "fix" meant just replacing gaskets -- and honestly, I don't even believe he replaced them. For the record: I paid $540 in full ($250 cash + rest on card). If there was truly a "balance," the vehicle would never have been released. That claim is false. My issue isn't the cost -- it's that the fumes remain, the sensor listed on the invoice was never replaced, and the story about what was done keeps changing. Anyone left in this industry that is honest and reliable? I called and was given a price to change my rear break pads for $125 for both which was a good price. A good sales tactic. When I took my car in they also said the front pads needs to be changed which looked fine to me and now the total cost for all pads will be $350. When I went back to pick up the car they said it will be $25 extra since the pads are different for a diesel car which I'm sure that's another lie and that if I pay with check or credit card they have to charge sales tax and if paid with cash they won't charge sales tax. So I ended up paying with cash and they did not even provide an invoice since they got paid cash and will not be reporting it in their taxes. Stay away from this place! read more

I got a local shop to do a lift kit however they messed up and didn't adjust the control arms. As I was driving past the mechanic shop, I decided to ask if they were able to adjust all 8 control arms. I spoke with a young gentlemen named Narek and he assured me they were able to do it. I was skeptical at first since the shop didn't have any yelp reviews regarding lift kits but I was proven wrong. Not only did they do adjustments on the lift kit for a cheap price but they also installed my cb and adjusted the SWR level. These guys are the real deal and do top notch work. George is incredible! I've been going there for over 10 years. I've referred him to countless friends and family, and everybody loves his work. Our old mechanic was retiring and he told us about Barkev. It was then George and his brother. They were always fair and honest. They were able to fix our Saturn that had been doomed by two other mechanics telling us to scrap it or get a new transmission. They test drove it and fixed it within two days. Nothing as major as what others had told us and a fraction of the cost. A few years ago George's brother passed and George has been bearing the work load solo, yet he always finishes on time. I used to love this shop when George owned it and took my cars there for years despite living 45 minutes away, but he sold it off earlier this year. Unaware of the change, I took my mom's and my own car in this summer and asked to have them check out both. A young man named Narek called me the following day and listed about 6 things I needed to fix. I agreed and a few days later had my parents pick up the cars since I was out of town. George was at the shop and talked to my mom about how he'd sold the shop but still came in on occasion to help the new owners, Narek and his dad, the ropes. After chatting they turned on the cars and set to leave. My mom hadn't made it out of the lot when George came running up to her because the sound coming from her car was awful. George asked my mom to leave the car another day so he could check it out. My car was taken home, but along the way my parents also noticed an odd sound on mine. We returned two days later to pick up my mom's car and ask for mine to be checked out since the noise hadn't stopped. Narek said it was the new car parts and to give them time to lubricate so I left, though it seemed odd. A week later it was still making noise so I called and scheduled an appointment. I spent 3 hours in Sun Valley, and again, Narek said it was the new parts. Fast forward another week and it was STILL making the noise. I managed to get ahold of George when I called and he promised to be there when I took it in again. He checked and discovered there was a loose piece of sheet metal somewhere that needed to be reattached. It was a simple fix, but by that time I was severely disappointed and frustrated that I'd spent $1900 and made 3 return trips to a mechanic that clearly wasn't looking close enough. George apologized profusely while Narek looked on. It was not George's fault, but I sure do feel bad that they're ruining his reputation! I gave this place 2 stars because Narek was extremely kind when we first came in and even gave my parents a ride back home and because I went to Nissan to get everything looked at after (since I was wary by that point) and they confirmed that all the work I'd paid for had been done. That being said, I'm sad that I'll have to look for a new mechanic now that George is not a regular employee at Barkev's. read more

Was quoted the least expensive price for a US made Interstate Battery in the area with a 24 month warranty. I said ok, I will take it (George sold the shop and it is now owned by Narak and his father.) When Narak brought out the new battery it had a 12 month warranty sticker on it. Narak said no problem, crossed out the 12 month and wrote down 24 months on the battery and receipt. Today's batteries don't last like they used to so I expect when I order a 24 month battery to be given a 24 month battery and hopefully won't have any problems and have to go back in. Narak said they would honor the 24 month period regardless of what it says on the battery, so as long as the battery lasts 2 years or they replace it if it needs replacing before 31Oct20, I am happy with the price and service. read more
