My friends and I really enjoyed Barkada! The pricing was super reasonable and each plate was absolutely bursting with food. Not only that, the food and cocktails were ALL very good. I got the pork belly chicharon and oh my goodness, the crunch juxtaposed with the moisture was amazing. The lumpia and the sauce it came with also two thumbs up. The cocktails were so cute and made us feel like we were on a vacation, even on a rainy seattle day! Popular neighborhood spot amongst quiet residential. The line was out the door on a Friday night and the food wait was about 30 minutes. They started running out of many menu items around 7pm. We got the mixed plate with pork sisig, Kahlua pig & cabbage, pancit, mac salad, and added an egg. Though the wait was long, every bite made it worth it. The pork sisig was the star, so juicy and tender. It balanced perfectly with the rice underneath and egg on top only made the layers of flavor dance on your tongue. What a great surprise! We all loved our meals. They have nice picnic tables outside. Order inside, bus your own food and dirty dishes. I wasn't expecting such high quality and interesting food. My poke plate was delightful and fun to eat. Very fresh and perfectly seasoned poke with great sides including a generous serving of edamame, some fresh krab salad, seaweed salad, and more. My other loved his adobo chicken and the flavorful sauce. We tried the mussels (fab), the pork and garlic shrimp - both also great (giant shrimp!). We came here for outdoor dining before it got really cold outside. There are maybe 4-5 tables so not a lot of space but it worked for us. I didn't try the cocktails because I was pregnant but their plates were delicious! I especially loved the crispy sisig. That was my favorite entree. Hello! Just wanted to share my thoughts on this place. The food was crap. Period. Maybe because, being Filipino myself, I expected it to be "just how mama makes it", but it fell terribly short of that expectation. Albeit the garlic shrimp and pork sisig was actually okay so to speak, but not enough to lure me back to the place. The adobo had a weird aftertaste, they put too much rice that the rice-to-"ulam" ratio was off, the kale salad tasted like you were eating raw bittermelon, but drenched with dressing, and the pancit tasted like someone made it in a rush and accidentally dropped the bag of "bitsin" (MSG for those of you wondering). This place knows how to make take out food look really nice! In current state, you order at the front counter and wait for your buzzer to buzz when your food is ready. Our food took 40 minutes to be prepared so be warned if you get hangry easily. We ordered two mixed plates and a li hing margarita. We were soo satisfied with the food + drink. We went to Barkada 'Edmonds' on a Saturday afternoon with a part of 8 and sat outside. It wasn't busy, there was one other party, so we were able to order quickly. Across our group, we ordered the Kalua Pig & Cabbage, Poke, Pork Belly Chicharon, Chicken Adobo, Garlic Shirmp. Lola's Lumpia, and Musubi. The food was all 'Okay-to-Good.' None of it was bad. I wouldn't 'not' go back, but I don't think I would deliberately go back if I had other options. The food was very filling and reminiscent of a Hawaiian Plate Lunch, which is good, but we didn't feel like the flavors of anything were particularly note-worthy, which is fine. I think Barkada 'shines' as a quick lunch option during the middle of the day or maybe a super casul dining experience on an evening night. I don't think I would use this as a 'premier' date place; however, it's a nice casual place for good eats, a relaxed enivornment, and no thrills dining. I wouldn't 'not' recommend Barkada. I think it's good at what it does, but I felt like because nothing particularly stuck out to me, there's other places within the Edmonds/Lynnwood/Shoreline area which do certain elements a little better, but if you're looking for that specific variety of food and that 'vibe' then it's certainly a quality spot. (3.5/5) The poke was good. It was a little costly for the portion size. (3/5) The pork belly was a little dry, but the skin was good. (4/5) The Lola's Lumpia and Musubi were on-par with other Lumpia and Musubi that I've had. It was good. (4/5) Garlic Shrimp was good. The garlic came threw. It wasn't food-truck-in-Hawaii good, but it was a nice small tribute to that. (3/5) Chicken Adobo was good. There was a nice salty, sweet balance with the chicken. I think my biggest nitpick of Barkada wasn't the food itself, but instead the price of the food. It felt fairly expensive for the type of food and the delivery of the food. $~20 per plate feels very expensive compared to similar restaurants, serving similar food and/or serving food in a similar manner. read more

I felt like the food was a bit spendy, perhaps they are making up for the cheaper prices earlier in the day. They have a visually interesting purple-colored horchata drink, which I had to try. I love Mexican horchata but this was different. The flavor was very weak. My wife had the regular one and I had the adult version. It didn't do much for me, and at $14, was a total waste of money. We had a couple of the pork dishes, and the pork sisig was astounding. Definitely going back for that again. This place was a surprise for us. It was quite good. Especially when you compare it to other Hawaiian places through out the sound, it stands out I think. We had the bibimbap, Kalua Pig, Lumpia, and Musubi. All were good. My wife was very happy with bibimbap - felt it was fresh. The musubi was very cool and the sauce on it was subtle. Lumpia was good - i only wish it had more pork in it. Kalua Pig was good and they gave a nice mini salad and the classic macroni salad. Wife took a Ube horchata to go. Very cool vibe and a FULL bar so if you want, you can get a cocktail with your adobo. We ordered 2 mixed plates so that we could try many of entrees (garlic shrimp, pork belly, chicken, and ahi tuna), as well as variety of sides (purple yam, Mac salad, noodles, kale). The pork belly was cooked well enough it wasn't too squishy, the garlic shrimp was a perfect balance between the flavors (plus the sauce on the rice under made the rice even better), but the ahi tuna was the favorite. Chicken was good but it wasn't our favorite! They have a downstairs area for seating which turned out to be needed during lunch hours (we had arrived just before lunch time) . Came about 20 min after opening on a Friday afternoon. I was the only one in the restaurant. Was informed pancit would take about 15 min to make and wasn't already made. No problem I ordered it with the chicken adobo instead of rice and a side of the lumpia. After about 30-40 min my food came out. They boxed it to go but I ate there. They did not provide the chili sauce for the lumpia so I had to ask for it. I paid about $33 for all the food. The chicken adobo was so vinegary and it had soaked into the noodles I couldn't eat either. I am sure the pancit would have been ok if it weren't for the adobo sauce. It is not traditionally what I have gotten for Filipino food in the past, I knew it was a sort of fusion to begin with but the only traditional part was the lumpia. I threw out all of the chicken plate and only kept the lumpia. I will not be returning. read more

The food here is insanely good. I'm not usually a big fan of pork (other than ham, bacon, and sausage), but the pork sisig is TO DIE FOR!!! It might be the most delicious thing I've eaten. Their house-made ginger beer is also delicious and is the perfect complement. I also want to point out that there is more seating downstairs that you can't see from the street. Finally got to try Barkada. We got the sisig plate, kalua pig plate, pancit, lumpia, musubi, Ube horchata and hood famous cheesecake. Ordered to go and food was ready when we got there. The kalua pig and sisig plates were both very flavorful. I was born and raised in Hawaii and the kalua pig was pretty legit. Would love to see chicken long rice or poi on the menu as a side if they ever consider expanding on the Hawaiian food. The pancit noodles were light and tasty. Lumpia was great too. The musubi was the only thing that was kinda meh though and had hard pieces of rice throughout. Ube horchata was interesting but I wanna try the lihing margaritas next time if we dine in. I love this hidden gem that me and my girl friend found a couple of weeks ago. We were trying to look for a place to eat -- seems like Friday evening and nice weather got many of the restaurants packed. Barkada means "group of friends" in Tagalog...and sure enough, this place is an asian fusion mix of both Japanese and Filipino food! It's rare to find "good" filipino food let alone restaurants in Seattle. The restaurant is small; they have 4 big tables and a bar area when you first come in but then they have stairs that go down that lead to 3 more tables and 2 comfy chairs with a table in the middle. Guess where we sat? The 2 comfy chairs with the table. We didn't mind -- they also have a pac-man or pinball machine alone with board games. We looked at the drink menu and the food menu. I got the Manila slushy and my friend got a glass of white wine. The Manila slushy was quite strong but it was in a tall tiki glass with a cute umbrella. It felt like I had 2 glasses of whisky and whisky I'm not a fan of...but it was somewhat tolerable. They have pork adobo which my friend and I definitely shared. She also got the Spam Musabi while i got the Calamansi Kinilaw. I definitely love the calamansi dish as it was sorta a mix of poke and calamansi and it paired so well with the shrimp chips that came with it. I would say this place is a bit expensive but it's not a disappointment. One of the cooks gave us a menu and reassured us that a table would be available when we had came in. This is not Filipino food. This is white-washed Filipino food. The chicken adobo was probably the best dish to order. I expected some Filipino taste, but the pork sisig is not that great. They also didn't tell me they were substituting, I have to go up and ask what happened. Which brings to my main reason for two stars. Seems that two guy run the front counter. We came here for a late dinner. The interior is modern, clean and hip. The vibe is chill. There was one woman behind the counter handling the main floor and another man was handling customers downstairs. The menu is not that big, though their drink menu looks interesting but we were not drinking sugary or alcoholic beverages that night. Since the portion was rather small, we opted for 3 different dishes to share: chicken adobo, corned beef and onion silog, and sisig. Each bowl is $12. The chicken adobo is quite good but the other two were a little too salty. I admit I liked their sisig the most but I just had to power through the saltiness. We also ordered their CJ's Ginataan Bilo Bilo which sounds good on paper: coconut milk, mochi rice balls, taro, tapioca and jack fruit. It sounded refreshing. But turns out that it was served warm, which wasn't what we were really expecting but the Bilo Bilo didn't look too appetizing and the consistency was closer to oatmeal instead of the soupy texture that we thought it would be. All of our food were served in either a plastic bowl or paper plate. We talked about how environment-conscious they are and speculated that in the case of leftovers, they could just give us the lid to the bowl and we would be good to go. Turns out, that ain't true. I was a bit puzzled when the woman took our leftover to the back of the counter and came back with a brand new standard takeout container box. We did find that Barkada would have been a great place for a casual hangout with drink and some snacks. Even though it was quite filling but I would say the dinner we had was on the lighter side. We had the chicken adobo, garlic shrimp, musubi and substituted pancit for the rice in both the adobo and shrimp (at $3 each) for total of $64.03. This place markets itself as a filipinx american eatery. For the price, we expected some tasty filipinx dishes. Not, definitely not. The adobo is dry (over-cooked?) and the pancit was a strange mix of glass noodles and wheat noodles (what the...). Potato in the adobo must be the american part of the cuisine. Would have given no stars, if possible, from the perspective of actual filipinx food and disappointing price. But earned one star for not overcooking the shrimp, handsome presentation (see pictures) and good lumpia (yay!). One of my best friends came into town and we decided to do a food and drink crawl through Edmonds and this was our first stop. I have been wanting to come since they opened and figured that this was a good opportunity to it out. Showed up during their Sunday brunch. We sat outside and ordered Oyster Shooters, Sisig (pork belly, red onion, hot chilis, calamansi (Philippine lime), egg, lime mayo, scallion, over steamed rice), and Red Horse (Philippines lager). Everything was so good. We definitely loved this place and will be back again soon to try more things on the menu. FYI: The menu is simple and does rotate, but there are staples that are on there.
