    This is a great start!

First time Back since the new owner took over. Nice and bright in the space and interesting table decor. The fish tank is still there and the fish look happy and healthy. The waiter was great and the food was pretty good. I found the ordering process to be complicated and somewhat overwhelming but that is common for me at Asian restaurants.

How I heard of this place: Some friends of ours have a weekly routine that includes Royal Unicorn. While their plans don't change, their company can, so we were invited to join them on this particular Sunday for dinner. Type of cuisine: Family style Chinese food served for an American audience. Ambiance: Quaint and cozy, the restaurant side (we didn't make it to the sing-along lounge) host booth seating as well as a large dim sum table complete with lazy Susan at the center of their dining room. An aquarium glows blue with fish swimming gently as patrons enter, eat and leave. Unexpected decorations grace the walls and lighting fixtures, and a large mural maintains the blue water theme. What I ordered: For our appetizers, we selected the Fried Chicken and Egg Rolls. Our dinner orders included a veggie Egg Foo Young, Singapore Rice Noodles and Sesame Beef. What I loved: The vegetables in the beef dish were perfectly seasoned and prepared. The Singapore Noodles lacked the spice I'm accustomed to, but the flavors were nice and the dish robust. Why I loved it: The space was quiet and relaxed, the server very friendly and helpful with making suggestions and the food presented nicely. Cost: Average ($15 per entree)

Stopped by for Friday Karaoke Night, and this place is AMAZING!! The service here is great! I was greeted & seated quite quickly. The food came out timely as well! This place is pretty busy/lively during their Friday Karaoke, but service is still really good when busy! I got a bunch of menu items but only got a picture of a few. The Mongolian Beef, Honey Walnut Prawns and Pork Hofun were SO GOOD!! Honorable mention to Szechuan Fish and Mapo Tofu cause that was also so delicious! Worth the drive and prices! The portions are really generous here too! My go to spot

Haven't been to Royal Unicorn in a while and I must say the food is still delicious. They updated their menu design and it looks great. I got the Hot and Spicy Spareribs, a side of hot and sour soup, and sweet and sour pork. I was completely blown away AGAIN. This is still my number one spot to get Chinese food and is the only spot that treats me right every time I come in! The hospitality and service is unmatched and I hope they get all the recognition they deserve.

This restaurant was quite good. I had been meaning to visit for a few years and finally got around to it today. And that was because my intended restaurant is closed on Mondays. I got lettuce wrap with chicken. Fresh lettuce and fresh chicken filling. Needed a bit more flavor to the filling, but the hosian sauce was ok. I'm not big on sweets though, so I didn't use much sauce. I loved the light crunch on each bite. Really good. I also had the spicy chicken wings. It is my favorite Chinese dish to order when in the mood for chicken wings. This restaurant served up the best I have ever had. All but one of the wings were decent sized. Every one of them were tasty. The woman who served me was kind, prompt, and curious. When I asked her what she would recommend, she told me to "Review the menu because everything is good." I really would have appreciated some direction from her. But I chose well on my own. When I'm in town again, and if I am in the mood, for Chinese food, I'll be back.

    70. Pork Egg Foo Young

I stopped in to get some takeout, pork egg foo young for lunch and met Lea the new owner. Sounds like they took over the restaurant about a year ago. The egg foo young I ordered was very good and I plan to go there again in the near future. I don't live in the neighborhood anymore. The restaurant looked very clean and again the owner was lovely.

The Royal Unicorn has reopened this week under new Management. We live in the neighborhood and ate at the former once and did not enjoy it. Today, we had the Crispy Rice soup, Coconut Shrimp, and the Two Delights (similar to Mongolian beef, but with chicken). All three were 5 stars. The coconut shrimp is freshly made, the two Delights had a great meat to veggie ratio and the soup was perfect. Unlike the predecessor, we shall be back and we are fans. Per the owner, the bar will be open in a few weeks as well.

This place has been a Richmond beach standard for years, new owners have been in place almost 2 years now, they have really turned this place around. While yes you can still get pre-set meals at dinner, but don't forget their Lunch menu served up 7 days a week! Flavors were very good, serving sizes decent and the staff were easy to talk to about the menu. Plenty of free parking, no excuses Shoreline, get in here now!!

The indoor space looks way better than outside. It's super cozy and nicely decorated. The food is really tasty. The service is awesome and friendly. Overall, it's a great place to eat.

Inside was rather functional and we were seated right away that lunch hour. Menu contained a good variety of fried and soup noodle dishes. The fried noodles were also served with a side of broth. I originally wanted wonton soup but deviated at the last minute to try their Dan Dan noodles. My daughter got the beef noodle and wonton soup that she liked. My Dan dan noodles was served with the same soup noodles and topped with a saucy ground pork and veggies. The pork packed a good amount of heat that I liked and enough to coat all the noodles. I personally preferred a thicker noodle but overall a good dish. The same lady who seated us took the order, served us, refilled our waters, rang up the sale and cleaned up afterwards. I'd come back here again.

Ignoring the fact that we were the only diners, which is ok these days with many opting for take-outs, I thought the food should be ok. Alas, their food is authentic adjacent but "not it". They look like they should be good, but the tastes are off. I should have guessed things aren't quite right, when the staff struggled to answer my simple question that any normal wonton shop would have understood. The interior is basic and quiet. During our time dining, only one other diner arrived. The Food: Wonton and Beef Brisket Noodle Soup, $14 - 3.5 Stars The beef briskets are reasonably tender. The wontons are acceptable with pork and shrimp fillings. The egg noodles are legit. Soup (or Spicy) Dumplings Noodle Soup, $14 - 2 Stars The Chinese name on the menu calls this Original Soup Sui Gow Noodle. This is a genuine and very good noodle soup at other places. Theirs is not it. The broth is not "original soup", which is a fish-based broth. Theirs is meat-ish, but not meaty and certainly not fish-based broth. It tasted off and weird. The dumplings are not sui gow. They are glorified larger wontons with pork and shrimp. A sui gow typically has Chinese black mushrooms and/or woodear fungus for a varying texture in the bite. The one authentic ingredient of this dish is the egg noodles. Garlic Chicken Wings, 6pc, $12 - 4 Stars These are good - crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Not too garlicky but still good. This dish rescued this meal. Lettuce Fish Meat Soup, $12.50 - 1 Star This dish is normally a popular HK street food dish. This dish is not that. The fish pieces lacked flavor and seasonings. The broth, again, is not fish-based but the same meat-ish flavor, same as the dumplings noodle soup. I wish I never ordered this.

Definitely a no frills place, but it's family run and the food is good. We arrived around 12:45 on a Sunday, at the end of the lunch rush wave. Worked out really well: our server Frank sat us right away, we ordered, and were eating our first dishes within minutes. Perfect! Because we were starving! I had a hankering for pork bao, which I hadn't had in a long time. They were decent. My girlfriend is vegetarian, so all other dishes were vegetarian: dry-fried string beans, general Tso's tofu, and hot and sour food. More than enough for the two of us, and very good and satisfying. Note: General Tso's is usually made with chicken and we asked if it could be made with tofu instead. They had no problem with the request. Portions are ginormous, so bring your appetite!

Even though I really wanted to love this place, this place was definitely overhyped; I'd say it's about the same level as A Ma's, which I also didn't enjoy. It might be because the place has gone super viral as we ended up waiting 80 minutes on a Saturday night, so quality control might be more difficult at this point. Tip: the iPad will say the wait is 30 minutes, do not trust the iPad. Hainan Chicken was tasteless and overcooked. The texture was way too chewy and was my least favorite preparation of the night. Gai Tod (fried) was better with a crispy outside, but still a tad overcooked. Gai Yang (grilled) was definitely the best version of chicken and is solid enough if you live nearby, but definitely not driving out of your way or waiting for. Rice wasn't super fluffy and I just prefer garlic rice over ginger. The chicken stock is probably the best part of the rice plates. Upside is the joint is definitely family owned and they do their best to provide good service in spite of the chaos. They'll take your order before you get seated, so the food comes out fast and are generally very sweet when checking in.

One day, lightning struck a tree, causing a massive forest fire that killed many animals. Our ancestors then discovered that cooked meat tasted much better than raw meat. This is why roast meat has always been regarded as an important part of the human diet. Today I gathered with friends and chose this barbecue restaurant. It's located north of Redmond, with a prominent sign and plenty of parking. Ambiance: The decor is creative, but it feels quite contradictory. Barbecue is inherently a very "Jianghu" (lively, rough-and-tumble) kind of thing, yet the restaurant leans toward an artistic, literary style. When I used to run my own restaurant, I followed a principle: avoid anything unrelated to the core dining experience. Seeing many books on the shelves here, I understand they're trying to bridge Jianghu and artistry -- but it clearly feels out of place. That said, the place is very clean, and the stickers/decorations are festive. Service: My high rating for this restaurant is largely based on the service. After we sat down, we were given free appetizers -- braised peanuts, which tasted great. The staff training is very professional, whether it's taking orders, making recommendations, attending to us during the meal, or checking on tables and refilling water. All excellent. Taste: Jianghu-style cuisine is characterized by boldness, satisfaction, and not sweating the small details. We ordered spicy hot pot (Malatang), spicy hot pot skewers, grilled beef, lamb, chicken gizzards, oysters, and many other items. First, the Malatang and spicy skewers tasted almost identical, so it felt like eating the same thing. The grilled skewers were just average -- neither good nor bad. The oysters were very tasty. However, the shrimp in the spicy skewers were very unfresh, which was disappointing. "By the way, the prices at 'Friendship Skewers' are anything but friendly -- I think it's quite overpriced overall."

One of them walked over and very casually threw out a "last call," without explaining how many minutes were left or checking whether we wanted to order anything else. Everyone at our table was caught off guard. It felt like we were being rushed to finish and pushed out, which made things really awkward and gave us a sense of being treated differently from other guests. If the goal was to manage the floor or control timing, the very least they could've done was explain it clearly: something like "You have X minutes left for last orders" or "We close at X time," instead of dropping one vague line and walking away, leaving guests to guess what's going on. When guests feel respected and in a good mood, we naturally order more and tip better. But when the attitude is poor and we feel rushed, it doesn't matter that the extra money isn't going directly into those servers' pockets - it just makes people not want to come back at all.
