Every day there's something happening here. There are no crowds on Tues or Wed so I like it and you can get a table easily. Jeff Hass who used to lead the Elec. Blues Meetups on Wed passed away this yr at his Shoreline house. He was very talented and friendly to me when I signed up for his Meetups. The Hidden Door is literally located across Whitman from our HOA. Some of the neighbors had great things to say about the owners, customer service, and the menu items. The Homie and I decided to give this spot a try back on 8/31/20. Enthusiastic and attentive wait person. Decent proteins (tried the brisket and meat platter - pulled pork, chicken, and brisket), onion rings, and big icy sodas. We also sampled some the cucumber salad from the chef/owner. I still prefer my barbeque from Marysville or Lake Forest Park, but watching them over the past six months they have a steady clientele seated in their outdoor covered/heated area. The hidden door may not be a safe place for some minorities. This is not my first time visiting this establishment. However, I have concluded that this may not be a safe or welcoming space for minorities, especially the LGBTQA+ community. The musician tonight had free reign of the microphone for the entire time I was there. About five songs into my visit, a patron had a "funny idea" to request WAP from Megan Thee Stallion as they passed through the room from the smoking patio to the bathroom. The musician claimed he had never heard of the song. However, the song eventually progressed into him not wanting trans WAP and repeating his disgust for trans WAP over and over. I felt very uncomfortable for myself and my friends, so I complained to the bartender, who had "no idea what I was talking about" which is plausible because the music was dismissable. This was completely inappropriate. If this is the owners' intention, this is not a space safe for minorities, especially for my friends who identify as LGBTQA+. read more

First of all, they allow dogs inside and that brings me no end of joy! Came here on a quiet Monday night, the regulars catching up with one another and the staff. The bartender (co-owner?) was quick to protect her patrons from an overly verbose guest who was not taking hints, which I appreciated. When I asked about dog-friendly foods, she suggested brisket skewers for the dog. They were so tasty I had a hard time giving them up to my doggo! They have a fair selection of local ciders and tasty brisket & stroganoff. Pictures online give it a divvy feel but that's not the vibe. Let's start with the best part: they have eight different kinds of slushies!!! Super good and amazing. The staff is top notch, and super friendly. Fun place! They really take a lot of effort into making a fun atmosphere with decoration, events, and karaoke! The food is pretty good. Like their signs say they have barbecue and it was pretty good. I was impressed that they have collard greens, and they are worth ordering for sure. They have a large crowd, and it seems to be some loyal regulars. People were pretty nice to us, and they seem to be interested in welcoming everyone to be a part of the crowd. read more

They were mushy, and tasted of flour and possibly rancid oil? tossed them to the dogs after one ring. The meat was.. well meat. We had the Meat plate with Brisket, Pulled pork and Sausage. If you combined the BBQ and the Mustard AND the catchup, you had a passable sauce, none were good by themselves. The meat tasted like meat. That's about all I have to say on it. It didn't have that proper smokey flavor, was a bit greasy and a bit dry at the same time. Yeah.. The owners are trying really hard to create a safe space for everyone. But it's not easy in a big city. I really appreciated her communication after the fact and it made me feel a little safer. One of my absolute favorite bars in Seattle. My friends and I have been coming here for years with no issue. Being that my friends and I are apart of the lgbtq+ community, we are not always lucky enough to find a place as safe and inclusive as the Door. The owners and staff are some of the most friendly and respectful people I know. Almost every week we look forward to their fun trivia and karaoke nights. I asked to see a menu and the menu they gave me was literally speckled with mold. I appreciate that the place is a bit dive-ish, but being unsanitary is just going too far. If the menu is this moldy, then what else in this place is unclean? Their beers on tap were unavailable. I saw on the back wall of the bar that they had displayed a Seirra Nevada tall boy (16 oz can of beer) so I ordered that. Instead of a 16 oz can it was a 12 oz bottle. I looked at my receipt when I got home and saw that they had charged me for a 16 oz anyway. I ordered a burger with fries and asked if I could have the fries as half fries half onion rings and they said yes. Again, later I saw on my receipt that they charge me $3 extra dollar for the onion rings, but only gave me 4 onion rings along with the half order of fries. Seriously? The price of their burgers is already similar to one at a nicer restaurant in downtown Seattle, but they are charging that at a dive bar off Aurora on the very edge of the city. When my food was ready, the cook brought it out from the kitchen and set it in front of me. I said, "thank you", but he never said a word to me or acknowledged me in any way. I ordered something else from the kitchen and once again I said "thank you" to him but once again he didn't say anything. He didn't look at me, he didn't say "here is your food". Nothing. I thought maybe he's not a talker but later saw him go behind the bar and chit chat with a colleague. Another customer walked up to the bar and tried to order but she got about 8 words into her sentence before the bartender interrupted her by very loudly telling his colleague a joke. The customer paused what she was saying, waited for the bartender to finish talking to his colleague, then finally was able to vocalize her order. What kind of bartender behaves this way?​ Another customer came to the bar and asked for a Modelo Negra. The bartender said they were out but they had Pacifico and Tecato (if I remember correctly). Again, what kind of bartender recommends 2 light beers as a substitute for a dark beer like Modelo Negra. Just felt like this place has all around poor service, lack of staff knowledge, and is unclean. A disappointment from the beginning to the end. No wonder their overall Yelp score is a 3.6 at the time of this review. A C- student. read more

Best thing about this place was the cole slaw. As anyone that has read my posts in the past knows.. I am a bbq snob, but this place was just not good. Got the burger for my son (which he liked), ribs for my daughter and the mixed plate for me.. the ribs were bad, like they were held in a steamer or a bath of sorts as they were mushy/overcooked and soaking wet. The meat plate was Brisket (dried out shoe leather) Pulled Pork (dry dry dry) and a sausage link... none had any smokey flavor, and it looked like they were all left under a Salamander for an hour... even adding sauce did not help this as it was just dry and hard. The onion rings were decent but the slaw was good! Was really pulling for this place as I only live about 15 blocks away... but won't be going back, except for the beer which is reasonably priced and you can't mess up beer... well you have to really try. read more

What a great surprise! A fantastic space created during covid lockdown with zero income coming in. This is almost a secret neighborhood hang-out with everything I would want in a community space. Had very low expectations because of location and exterior but walking inside was magical. Fantastic ambience with alcoves of activities. Outdoor covered tables, indoor Pool table, live music (open mic with really good musicians) darts, pinball, and a book shelf full of games. Lots of parking in the back near the entrance. Be patient with the food and menu. Still working that out. The star of the menu was (for me) the skewers of brisket! Juicy, tender and tasty 1 inch cubes of deliciousness. The chicken wings and nuggets were terribly overcooked and I hope they consider taking them off the menu until they can get them right. It was a bad distraction to what would have otherwise been a good menu. The bar is well equipped and seemed reasonable. I don't drink but would go here just for the music, community and activities. Thank the universe this place didn't exist 35 years ago when I was still drinking:) I could see myself moving in. read more

Usually a decent spot I mostly feel welcome from two out of three of the bartenders. I come here fairly often and spend a lot of money but this is the second time that I have felt unwelcome at this establishment the first time being because I "took too long in the restroom". The second time I came in with a friend and we noticed that we weren't being served. The female bartender with pink hair, served everyone else, and was very attentive to everyone else but us later on that evening I found out why... according to her the next time I come in I need to make sure to have on pants and not a short skirt or shorts because they have a reputation to uphold. I've literally never felt more singled out and disgraced in my life. So ladies and gents if you plan to come to this establishment, make sure your clothes have two full legs on them, or else you won't be welcome and you'll be making the bar look bad read more

Started coming here to play pool about a month ago. After about 5 times there the true colors of the regular crowd came out. They manipulate the pool table sign up, disappear when the are up to play and make it impossible to get on the table. The last straw was when owners boyfriend and bartender joined in. This review is purely based on the quality of the "bbq" and based on that would get zero stars if possible. The bar tender alone deserves this star as he was exceptionally kind. The food deserves zero stars unless you like chicken jerky, "brisket" skewers that taste like burnt gristle, mac n cheese that taste like noodles soaked in milk, potato salad that taste like boiled potatoes covered in bland cream, fried pickles that are basically salt sticks and sub par bbq sauce. There is no way on this earth this place deserves to call itself a bbq joint. Good place to grab a drink and play a few games but as for the food I don't think I could possibly try to cook food that bad. We paid over $40 for food you couldn't pay me to eat again. read more

My husband and I went to the Hidden Door last Saturday the 26th to see a friend of ours play in the band that was there. There were not that many people in the place, we got there early (7:30) so we could get a table. Husband goes up to the bar and orders our drinks. We sat for a bit and then I went up to see if they had menus, it was obvious we were not getting waited on at our table. I asked if we had to come up to the bar to order food, the one female bartender on duty, said yes. We decided, I went up and ordered and she gave me a bottle with lights in it to set on the table so they would know where to bring the food. Then, in a short time, she comes over to ask my name and I told her. She said I don't have a tab started with that name. I said ok, and I went to get out my card to give her. My husband is sitting right there, and he said, you have my card for a tab, and she asked him his name and then said ok. He had a burger, and I had a pulled pork sandwich, they were both good. The onion rings he had, were really bad, very greasy and soggy. I ordered potato salad for a side and it was not good. The place was cold, they kept opening the door so people could go in and out to smoke. Including the female bartender. I should preface this by saying the smell of weed was prevalent when we first walked up to the place, there is a tent outside. Whatever, I don't mind if people want to smoke that is fine, however if you are allowing your employees to go out and get stoned to the point they can't do their job, as a business owner, you may want to reconsider. At the end of the night, my husband goes to settle up our tab, she asks his name. He tells her, "oh yeah" she says. As it turned out, she gave him back someone else's debit card, not his own. He didn't discover it until today. I called the establishment at noon, and was able to leave a detailed voice mail along with my phone number and asked them to call me back and let me know if they had his card there, or did they give it to someone else. Never received a call back. My husband called two or three times after they allegedly opened at 2:00 pm, but no one would answer the phone. I called again at about 5:30 or 6:00 this evening and got a female on the phone and said I left a voice mail message today regarding a debit card. She said what's the name? I told her, she says, yeah we have it. I said we'll be up there to get it. We go in this evening, it's a different female behind the bar. We said, we called about the debit card? She says what's your name? We tell her, she goes and gets his card, then asks to see his ID, (well that's a good thing). She gives him his card and says sorry. I looked at her and I said you guys gave us someone else's debit card. She says, do you have it? I said yes, we've already contacted the person and are returning their card to them tomorrow. She says "oh", well sorry about that. We will never go back there. read more

A friend tipped us off about this venue so we went three last night and were pleasantly surprised. The outdoor area was perfect with good social distancing. We had some cocktails while awaiting our take out food (pork and chicken sliders, which were well-prepared). Our waitress was very friendly and attentive.
