You pay for what you get for right? Ribs were fine, though the fries were a bit bland.

Our server was really good and the food was really good. We tried the non-alcoholic guava mule. The guava was nice and sweet and complimented the spicy of the ginger beer. We ordered a French onion soup, steak Diane, and a beef Wellington. The entrees came with choice of salad. We tried one of each , house Gibby salad and the blue cheese wedge. This was a lot of food for us. The French onion soup was my favorite, good flavor, lots of onions and that nice browned cheese top. Both salads were good, the house salad was a little lighter since the blue cheese wedge salad had a rich blue cheese dressing and bacon bits on top. The steak and beef Wellington was also good. In general, we ordered medium rare, it was a little bit rarer than I expected but not I'd edible. So something to think about if you need your meat to be cooked more. The prices seemed fair for a steakhouse and for the amount of food we ate.

Picture dark cozy elegant steakhouse. Food and drinks? Fabulous. I had the Arctic Char (I was steaked-out) and my date had the prime rib. Both were perfect. We ordered a variety of things (including things we wouldn't usually order to try and enjoy the full experience). We had a special that they were having that night similar to a charcuterie board, croquettes, hangar steak, lobster spaghetti, fries, bread and pickle, and a scallop soup type dish (I forget what it was called and honestly it was my absolute favorite most unique dish). The service is outstanding and our server was so knowledgeable and helpful. The space is small and intimate - perfect for a date night!

None of the cocktails appealed to me particularly (they all seemed pretty abrasive in an interesting way but my palette doesn't love bitter) though my date had a really solid martini. I opted for the wine instead and was very impressed -- some interesting options, all of which I enjoyed and complimented the food well. Now to the food: we got a variety of oysters, all of which were delicious!! I coulda had a second round, but my date loves escargot so we did that instead -- extremely rich but always tasty. From there we went straight into entrees, I got the duck breast which was tender and lovely! So filling, so delicious. But my date chose even better with the rabbit. Omg. It was like a rabbit & foie gras entree with truffle on top and it was just out of this world! Again, so heavy but so delicious -- you wanna just drape it over your shoulders like a velvet curtain. Needless to say we were both too stuffed for dessert. But man, what an outstanding meal! Would love to come back here some day and do it all again.

But not wanting to sit up or downstairs all stems from bad luck hubs and I have had and treated like the forgotten kids at other restaurants. Negative. As in the name, Mignon S. is a steakhouse lovers dream in a petite version. Yet, it still offers a filet mignon- because why not?, a burger, your beef tartare, a couple more steak dishes, a mac, a fish dish, etc- along with the veggie sides. Decent. The space is intimate and modern and the ambiance is happy. What's not to like? My Lychee Martini had great Lychee juice but the alcohol substance was nil. Hubs said the same about his Negroni. Our 5-shrimp cocktail was the silver lining. They were juicy, fresh-tasting and topped with a light hand of cilantro micro greens. Service was wishy-washy and knew we wanted out after finishing our appetizer.

The bf ordered the steak frites and a crème brûlée. This was the best place to eat for us in all of Montreal. We did not have a reservation, but were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar. Matthew, bartender and server was the best! We even went back the same night for more drinks. The ambiance was hip without trying hard. There's also another place to eat downstairs with the same menu and a different vibe. We are at a lot of places, but this was the best.

While the food was delicious, the overall experience fell just slightly short of what I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Service was the main area that didn't quite meet expectations. After being seated, we waited about 10 minutes before receiving menus and had to ask for them. Throughout the meal, interactions felt a bit rushed - several staff members who stopped by the table were somewhat brief, and on a few occasions, items like bread or water were dropped off while we tried to ask questions, but the busser had already walked away. That said, the restaurant was quite busy during lunch, so it's possible the pace and attentiveness were impacted by that. As for the food, we ordered the albacore tuna appetizer along with the strip loin, butcher's cut, and duck for our mains. Everything was well-prepared, though the duck portion was noticeably small. Desserts were a highlight - especially the pavlova with maracuya, which was excellent. Our server Laura was professional, though not very engaging until the very end of the meal when we were settling the bill. I would still return, as the food is strong, but I have to say that Bar George left a more lasting impression on us in terms of both food and service.

My wife, son (9) and I visit Longueuil about twice a year from where we currently live in New York…read morebecause my wife's relatives live here. After they yet again hosted us at one of their places, we took her cousin and the cousin's parents to Silvia Grill, seeing that it was highly recommended and a bit elevated. Montreal has many Portuguese restaurants specializing in rotisserie chicken that we would like to try. We chose this one because we are very accustomed to eating at Brazilian steakhouses. The menu at this Portuguese restaurant is similar to what we're used to so we felt comfortable recommending it; we also bet big on this place because my wife's aunt is an excellent cook, I mean a ridiculously good chef of all kinds of Peruvian foods in particular (my wife is Peruvian, I am a gringo of Italian/Sicilian extraction from New York). Our group ordered their national soup caldo verde, Caesar salad and a bottle of Spanish wine to start (reasonable and delicious). Caldo verde is a soup made of collard greens, potato and garnished with smoked Portuguese chorizo. This one was thinner in consistency than its Brazilian counterpart that we always order in New York, and it is a small serving in a big white plate. It has an earthy flavor of potato and fresh collards, and with just three delicious slices of chorizo it is light and fitting starter to a big meal. My son had the Caesar salad which they said was good. To me it looked over-engineered and a bit overdressed, and it looked to be a very small serving. We omitted the slices of crispy chorizo for his benefit and he liked it very much (at nine years old he has a thing for Caesar salad and salad in general). For entrees it was a whole different story. My wife and son split the special, a flank steak frites. I'm not a fan of flank steak but it was delicious. The French fries were perfect and the side of sauteed vegetables was great, too. I did notice, and this is all over Quebec province where we visit, that the size of the steak is (very) small by American standards so sharing this was not optimal since my son is a good eater. My wife's uncle and I ordered the grelhada mista, or mixed grill, consisting of a delicious quarter chicken (excellent spicy peri peri sauce on top!), a pork, a small serving of steak (flank I think) and their delicious smoked chorizo. The accompanying potatoes and sauteed vegetables were excellent, too. I have no comments on the size of this dish because it was filling. My wife's aunt and her daughter ordered one paella and it looked delicious. It had saffron rice, chorizo, chicken and seafood. They both raved about it and what meant a lot to us was that my wife's aunt was excitedly trying to identify all of the seasonings. My wife's cousin, in fact, said she would order a few of them next week for her two brothers who were not present, for takeaway to have at dinner. The desserts, too, were excellent. Our guests ordered blueberry cheesecake which they said was delicious (this appeared to be French-style cheesecake with blueberry compote). My wife had a caramel flan that was delicious (I sampled it), and I had the national dessert of pastéis de nata. These are vanilla custard tarts that are either served hot or made to order. I've had them before and these were stellar. Overall I highly recommend this place. Our server was great about everything -- he spoke English, French and some Portuguese -- including wine and food recommendations for the uninitiated. I've made it a point to report on some restaurants in Quebec because I've noticed that it's difficult for Americans to navigate that mess of badly presented Google Maps reviews. I'm glad I started with this place!
