Are they under new management? We have been long standing customers of this restaurant, it's always been a go to for a reliably good meal at reasonable prices. Three of us had dinner there tonight. The waitress was nice, food came as quick as we expected, but it was terrible. The fish was overcooked, we only had choice of one side so we picked vegetable of the day which was a very small bowl of mushy canned green beans. The meal didn't come with bread, or salad, and only one side dish, so we each had a piece of fish and green beans. We didn't order cocktails, appetizers or dessert and the bill with tip was almost $90 for three people. Disappointing. read more

well have not been here for a very long time, and it sorta looks the same....darkish colonialish interior, pretty good size with a down stairs area also and always seems to have cars in the lot so fairly busy...was pretty quiet on our visit...we had tyler as a server who was new as he admitted but did a very good and careful job...food was very good, we both liked the calamari and the trishs sandwich and the monte cristo were both tasty...drinks were good and as ordered including the frostbite martini, enjoyed and different...so it is still here, not too much changed.. pretty good food and pleasant service!! read more

I came with a large group to celebrate at birthday and the first thing I noticed is how large the place is. Every room you enter just about leads to another room. This place can seat A LOT of people. They had a rather normal and moderately sized draft selection and two different menus to choose from. The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly for the most part. They do not have a large selection of healthier options, if you're dieting and looking for a salad. There's a few but not much. This is a place where you are going to eat more calories. We ordered lobster, tuna salad, chicken tenders, the seafood platter, Alfredo, prime rib steak and boneless wings (which were just tenders), and finally fish and chips. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy their dinner. One person ordered mozzarella sticks but they never came out. I'm sure this was just because we ordered a lot and sometimes these things happen. I came here after my dad's biking race because we heard from a local that it was a great place to eat. The place was an old tavern like feel and look, the parking lot was empty and was on the side of the highway. When we got there we were seated quickly and were able to order fast. Barbers Crossing is a neighborhood restaurant with plenty of parking, great service, and a nice crowd. They serve homestyle meals, and the food is fine. The several seafood dishes taste consistent with a buttery cracker breading. I wouldn't order the calamari, again, as it was a little fishy. The lower level bar smells musty, could use some new lighting, could use a good scrub down. Bathroom is nice. They play a restaurant-wide game at Barbers, but we've never been given info on how to play. Wouldn't mind learning more. read more

My mother wanted to try this place. We made lunch plans for Mother's Day with a party of eight. Then I read the bad reviews for this place. "Uh-oh!" I thought, but we went anyway. We had one meal, a turkey dinner, come out a little cold. They reheated it. Other than that, all the food was really good. The service was excellent. Years ago I was a waitress, so I am aware of restaurants and their kitchens. If a restaurant doesn't maintain the seating area, they're not maintaining the kitchen either. The seating area on the left side of the restaurant is old, not clean, and dark. The carpet needs to be ripped up. The padding and springs in the booths are gone. The dust on the beams and antiques is noticeable. I've seen and heard customers complain about the food. Baked potatoes come cold, shriveled up, or dirty. French fries are inedible because they sat in the warming tray too long. Main dishes arrive cold or overcooked. I'm not impressed. read more

My email to the owner about a poor experience. There was a direct refusal by the gentleman on the phone to provide the name of what manager made the decision explained below. So, I can not tell you who hindered our relationship today, but I can explain why. I assume the refusal to provide the name(s) of management is because i did mention writing a review of this entire experience. Long story short I placed an order for about $70 two weeks ago. I can provide the card number I placed my order on, if proof of purchase was in question. i just want to be clear that i didn't just call Barbers Crossing today and claim i had a comped meal, and didn't. Lets be clear on that. lol I ordered shrimp scampi and when I got back to Leominster (after picking up my order in Sterling), I had rice instead of pasta. The meal was supposed to come with pasta not rice. I was not able to eat that meal. I immediately called the hostess, and the pleasant young lady took all of my information (name, phone) and said she would enter for me to be comped another shrimp scampi meal. GREAT. That is rectifying the situation. I called this afternoon to redeem the meal. The hostess today took my order and said 15 minutes. I got all the way to your restaurant parking lot and was called back to be informed hat only a 20% discount would be honored. I was told management made the decision at 20%.I asked the young lady to speak with the manager and she complied. I asked to speak with a manager to explain i was already in the parking lot and that I was never told to redeem this meal within a certain time frame. As i understood it from the hostess i spoke to on the phone, there was an entry in the register and all i had to do was give my name and problem solved. The manager on the phone ( refused to give his name) stood firm that he would not comp the meal, and the decision actually didnt come from him but another manager. I have no idea how many managers work there, but everyone there (hostesses) included need to be on the same page with any terms and conditions you have when comped meals need to be redeemed. Nowhere on your website, does it outline a mandated time for redemption of meals should an error have occurred. The hostess I spoke to today didn't even know there was a required grace period. Seems like management is making up the rules as they go? With all due respect, here is a situation your management has created over a GRAND total of $19.11. Actually $19.11 grand total meal, less 20% discount = additional out of pocket customer expense of $15.29. Myself and my family eat at barbers crossing about 6 times in a calendar year. loyal customers. every visit we spend at least $100 (often more with drinks from the bar). So, your management has now forfeited upwards of $600+ in revenue over 15.29 (meal, plus MA tax, less discount). I mean in the grand scheme of things, you probably spend 600.00+ annually on paper towels, so you certainly don't need my money. But,I bring up the financial aspect of this because this situation was not customer service focused at all. So, I assume a discount of this kind is financially based. A word of caution to steak lovers out there. Don't order one! I ordered a rib eye, rare ... and it was delivered on a deep plate in a quarter inch of what was probably "au jus" sauce. I had lunch here on Sunday. It was awful. Reminded me of cafeteria food. The turkey dinner consisted of cold stuffing topped with two good sized pieces of turkey. Both were very cold and there was warm gravy on top of the turkey. The mashed potatoes and butternut squash were tasteless. Then to top it off I could see the lines from the can on the cranberry sauce. They could have at least mixed it so it did not look straight out of the can. Service was excellent. One serious complaint was cost of a mixed drink. I might accept $3.00 apiece for a shrimp as seafood is getting expensive, but $10.00 for a White Russian is over the top. Almost $6.00 for a shot of well Vodka, almost $2.00 for some extra milk and $2.25 for what I'm guessing is a shot of Kalua or Bailey's. I would just caution Customers to be careful what they order and scrutinize you bill for overcharging. We'll go back again but with caution for their prices. read more

Pretty cute and rustic restaurant located on the hills of Massachusetts. This reminded me of the Cracker Barrel chain due to the decor. It was very country and lots of wood and old fashion items all over. We came here for my grandma in law's 87th birthday and there were about 13 of us including two kids. They had a large table set for us. My only complaint was, the room was freezing. It was a chilly autumn day, maybe in the 60s. We mentioned it to our waitress and she said that the a/c was not on. I ordered the turkey meal. It came with 3 large slices of turkey, mashed potatos, mashed squash, gravy, cranberry sauce, and stuffing. The food was pretty good and the portions were generous. The type of food offered is traditional American. Overall, I would give them a 3.5 star rating. The service was good and so was the food. Bleh. We were a group of 15 meeting for lunch. They stuck us out in the back room and tried to jam us around some pushed together tables. We ended up adding a couple more tables to the grouping so that we would all have elbow room. When we asked about specials, we were told that groups larger than 14 were not allowed to order specials. The only plus was that the waitress was willing to issue separate checks. My burger was burnt. On both sides. And on the dead side of well done. Kinda like a hockey puck. The other burger was burnt on the outside, but still medium rare inside. But the burnt shell was off putting. The side of coleslaw was bland. The side of potato salad was really bad - huge potato wedges in a super bland dressing. The grilled cheese and French fries were ok. It was a kids meal that came with vanilla ice cream. This place gets some mediocre reviews but we went tonight and it was excellent. Our server was fantastic. She dropped by often to just make sure we didn't need anything but wasn't hovering. We ordered an appetizer and she asked if we wanted my 3yo daughter's burger ahead of our meals since kids take more time to eat. Thats the first time anyone has ever thought to ask us that, at any restaurant. I had a 2lb, yes a 2lb bone in prime rib that was amazing. My wife had a chicken pasta dish, and my mother had a baked potato and bowl of clam chowder. We had spinach and artichoke dip for an app, i had a draft beer, then we got crème brûlée and a molten lava cake with ice cream to split for dessert. Who entire meal was $118 for all of that food before tip. An epic deal for 2023 prices. It was windy and cold today and the dining room was nice and warm. Overall, just really great. At best, this place is a crap shoot every time you go. By that I mean, the food is hit-or-miss, mostly miss, and largely easy-to-prepare crap. The waitress I had was inattentive, short (in attitude), and didn't seem to give a damn about anything regarding her job. She did enjoy chatting up the bar patrons, though. I got a burger. It was substantially underdone. Went it came back, it was overdone. I changed my order to a salad. Can't screw that up, right? Wrong. Greens were poorly washed and the croutons were chewy. At least they can effectively buy dressing. I commented on this but ate it anyway. I figured there was not going to be any value to this meal and would only continue to go downhill if I irritated the grade-schooler cooking out back. When I told the waitress about the salad (wanting it brought up, but making it clear it wasn't going back), she shrugged and walked away. Great customer service. To their credit, the drinks are good size and strong, a trait required to pre-numb the palate in preparation of the culinary travesty soon to follow. We skipped dessert. I suspect this is a great place if you are both a townie and a drunk. read more

The food wast good and the service very, very good. Variety, fresh, good. The chairs are comfortable, the booths are very roomy. They use a combination of pre-made, microwave and frozen foods and what little effort they do put in to making from scratch is either cooked wrong or disgusting. Came here with family and friends for an early dinner on Memorial Day. Our group ordered the Fish & Chips, the Ribeye, stuffed chicken, and Ribs, and beef brisket. Overall the experience was pleasant, service was friendly and the prices were reasonable. For the most part, it was a good meal with a few exceptions; the beef brisket was mostly fat and had to be returned, the Ribeye came out a bit cold, but after we asked it was reheated and turned out to be delicious. The fish & chips was ok, but nothing to write home about. The Ribs & the stuffed chicken were also good. Went the other night with my friend. I got the beef ribs and she got the fish platter special. She does not like shrimp and they accommodated her (without issue) to replace the shrimp with extra haddock. She said was the best meal she had in a long time. As for my beef ribs, they were spectacular. I also need to add our waitress, Sara, was a gem. They were busy but she still stopped by several times to see if we needed anything and was happy to get it. I hope they know what a treasure they have in her.
