The food is amazing and the bartenders are some of the best in the business. The hostesses at Bar 167 however were insanely rude. I felt like I was in the movie mean girls. The "ladies" working the hostess stand looked and acted like they were 16 year old brats. They giggled and whispered when we asked to go to the top bar as if we were asking to have a private photo session with the Mona Lisa. Whatever happened to southern charm? No clue, me neither. I think you guys need to hire some new welcoming staff. This was the most uncomfortable entrance I've felt at a restaurant in years. Not really sure why they were so arrogant and immature. I'm really starting to doubt YELP as a reputable source. When I click on profiles of people that leave 5 star reviews, I find it suspect that 90% are 5 stars. If the 1-5's aren't somewhat balanced, either standards are in need of an overhaul, or the reviews are fake. I asked my wife what she thought when we left, her reply was "1 Star." The bad: We were seated upstairs, and the door to get in/out of the 2nd floor was left opened the entire time. The temperature of the upstairs was approximately 80 degrees on a week night if I had to guess. There's also no ceiling fans so the air is stagnant and the flies are free to land on your plate, drink and table. Pretty difficult to enjoy your meal if this is the ambiance. My wife's water glass had what looked like a fingernail floating around in it. We asked for a new glass. The bench seating is pleather, which sticks to your legs when it is hot. A questionable choice for the climate. Not to twist the knife, but leather is also not a theme in Grecian restaurants. My wife ordered the Fulton St Rickey - a spritzer with Gin, Mint, Cuc, & Ginger. Ideally, a 'perfect' cocktail is well-balanced and allows you to taste all the ingredients. Since cucumber is pretty faint, ginger can be aggressive, and mint lies somewhere in the middle, that makes this a pretty challenging cocktail to execute, not even factoring in the botanicals of the gin. When we both took a sip, the ginger was so strong we both felt like we got punched in the face with chili powder. I asked our server if bartenders are tasting the drinks for quality control before they're going out (common to dip a straw and taste 1 or 2 drinks per shift for consistency) and was told "No, I mean..not all of them." Keep in mind, this is a $20 cocktail, $15 + 11% tax = $16.65 + 20% tip = $19.98 to the consumer. We sent it back. Sadly, another restaurant that 'auctions off food or drinks." People, it is not acceptable for the runner to ask "WHO GOT THE _____?" If it were a tavern, my standards slide, but at a place with $20 cocktails, I at least expect them to be placed in front of the person that ordered it. Here's how this is done, FOH management, make it uniform that each 'seat' at the table has a predesignated # associated to it. For example, for the 2 tops upstairs, the bench side is always #1 and the chair is always #2. For Round tables, there's always a starting point and work clockwise from there. Even if orders are taken out of turn, when entering in the POS, Food/drinks are rang in order of assigned seating. This way when items are ran by someone other than the original server, this person knows where they go. Both cocktails were placed incorrectly, AND both entrees. Even Olive Gardens can manage this.... The good: Despite being 30 seconds shy of a perfect crisp, the calamari was edible. Would have been better with a ramekin of marinara. Despite the Arroz Con Negro having previously frozen tuna (evident by it's sickly gray hue and an obvious at a $23 price point) it presented well. Swordfish sandwich was OK. Despite the clearly poor FOH management, the server was really personable and timed everything accordingly. Food pricing seemed to be pretty fair, especially considering almost all restaurants are in the mid $30's-$40's for an entrée now. Many entrees were in the $20's. read more

My wife and I were walking and looking for a place to eat an early supper. I'm so glad we found Bar167. I would describe them as small plates but flavors. We had the salmon crudo, the crab toast, the calamari and a Caesar salad. The food is fresh and you can tell it is prepared by people that care about what they serve. Everything was prepared perfectly and the flavors were well balanced. Our waiter was knowledgeable and answered our questions to help guide our selections. The restaurant is quaint and gives the feeling of dining at a friend's home. We enjoyed the sunshine on the upper deck area. If I lived in Charleston this would be a weekly stop for my wife and me. read more

Rude staff and act like they don't want to help you. Told us at 7pm there is a 3.5 hour wait for dinner. Host acted like he could care less. This was the King Street location. He all but basically said we aren't getting you tonight. We went back to Coastal Provisions since we were staying at Wlid Dunes and had a great meal, and even though we still had a minimal wait, they treated us great. We too run a business, and your staff are the front line, and represent your company good or bad. Maybe we will give it another try when we come back down, but we can't emphasize enough how disappointing the experience was with hearing all the hype of how good your restaurant is supposed to be. read more

We arrived a few minutes early, but our table was ready within minutes. Alyssa was our server & was extraordinarily nice & accommodating. She was extremely patient as we couldn't decide on drinks, wine or food; she walked us through & helped us make the best possible choice for our tastes. For an appetizer we chose the Marinated Olives & Blue Crab Claws. The turn around time was impeccable & the apps were delicious as well as the drinks. We ordered our main courses I had the Seared Yellowfin Tuna & my dining partner chose Seared Scallops. For dessert I asked for Irish coffee & although it didn't appear on the menu Alyssa made it happen & my partner had what you call a Licor 43, again not on the menu but when you have a great waitress ‍. Everything was just perfect. The food & service were just incredible. The only thing I could pick out that wasn't perfect was the restaurant was a little loud; however there was a group of ladies celebrating the upcoming nuptials of their guest of honor. Great cocktail bar that is still a little less known. Generally very easy to make a reservation or even just show up still. My favorite drinks are the Cedro Spritz or the Seasonal Sangria. I have tried almost all the small bites and they are all great. Can't go wrong with the Crispy Calamari, Fungi Fritti or the Foccacia with Stracciatella Cheese. Absolutely delicious! Thought we were walking into the famed oyster bar (it's around the corner), so we're surprised to not see oysters on the menu. At first we just ordered drinks and apps, but we're so blown away by flavor, that we stayed for dinner! The salmon crudo was enveloped in an herb infused oil and was absolutely delicious. The tempura maitake did an excellent job mimicking chicken and waffles. The portion was quite generous too. The scallops were perfectly seared and meaty, but the real star of the dish was the chiffonade slaw of green apple, celery, and roe. The knife work was impressive, and the taste was incredible. I all but licked the plate. The steak (which also came with maitake and a cream sauce), was a beautiful, fresh cut. It was perfectly cooked. The only item that didn't completely blow us away was the Apollo mocktail. But the Hera was a burst of flavor. Absolutely loved stumbling onto this amazing spot! read more

A great marketing concept, but very over priced for what you get. Drinks were billed as excellent, but were very average and not reasonably priced for the results. The food was tasty, but again over priced. It kind of reminds me of an old fable about the King's clothes. I was supposed to be overwhelmed, but I just didn't see it.
