(Last visited 9/18/2021.) I'm in Minneapolis for the weekend and I have to brunch whenever I can! So this place was in my Yelp Collection "Minneapolis Bottomless Brunch Spots", feel free to follow that or any of my other collections that I'm constantly building. So here's how it went at Bar Zia! Atmosphere/Appearance: We got here right at 11:00am to begin the party! We sat outside under the umbrellas that are right up against the sidewalk for a perfect people watching perspective. The music was lively and we felt safe inside the gated off section of the restaurant. Service: I can't remember the names of the ladies that took care of us, but there were 3 of them, all looking after my party of 8 folks. The bottomless mimosas kept coming and our glasses never actually saw the bottom. Lol. It was incredible service and they put up with us as we progressively succumbed to the mighty Prosecco. Lol. Food: The mimosas were delicious and not super juicy. That's what's most important! For my breakfast entrée I went with the Build Your Own Omelette. You can choose from a variety of vegetables, cheeses and proteins. It was delicious, but it didn't blow me away. I didn't need it to. The mimosas were just giving me LLLIIIFFFEEE! Lol. Value: You too can have your own bottomless adventure for only $17.00 (when you BUY and entrée) on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00am to 3:00pm. My omelette was only $15.00 (I added a protein for $4.00 more). This place is a GREAT value. I'll definitely be making a return visit. In conclusion, I really liked this place. It wasn't dive-y, but it wasn't so upscale that if you got a lil' loud or starting dancing that they'd kick you out or you'd catch weird looks. It was certainly a nice vibe and chill spot. read more

My group and I grabbed some nachos, they were okay. I ordered the tequila mockingbird, it has jalapeño infused tequila with watermelon. I thought this combo would be interesting and it was! I didn't expect it to actually have the jalapeño kick but it really does -- so if you don't eat spicy I wouldn't recommend this drink. If you do, order it! It's tasty with a kick. In fewer words-- Average bar, good service, not the most creative with cocktails but definitely a chill spot to grab a couple beers and some bar food. It's right in downtown, near the govt center. Easy access to lightrail. read more

Good food and drinks if you're in the downtown area. I wish the bar seating was a bit more comfortable but otherwise, no real complaints.

Great happy hour. I love the patio super nice to sit outside on a sunny day. The inside is run down bedding some work. I highly recommend the flat bread pizzas. Very flavorful and perfect for one person as a meal or as an appetizer to pass around the table. The beef spare rib tacos were fantastic full of flavor but not too spicy. Big open space, great atmosphere with unique and tasty drink menu!!

Serving all drinks in disposable plastic cups should have been the warning we needed to just bail. The service was soooo slow and they weren't busy at all. We literally had two different menus. Burger was way too salty. Honestly, this is a failed nightclub trying to be a restaurant. read more

Would never recommend this place to anyone charged a cover for empty bar, half-ass bar service and just overall bad customer service.

Look at the print on when the open compare to the weekend. Their hours are different. Bottomless Mimosa were awesome and delicious! Fries and chips were soggy! That was the only downside. read more

I've been going to bar zia weekly since they went under new management and it's been fantastic! The food is great for the price and the staff is very friendly. It's almost become a weekly routine for me at this point. I highly recommend! read more

Great bar to stop at on the way to or from US Bank Stadium. A few friends and I stopped here for a few drinks before a concert at the stadium and there is a skyway that goes right from the bar to the stadium! Great for those cold winter nights. Friendly and quick bar service. Reasonable prices. Don't stop here if you expect to get a table and quick food service an hour before a show/game (obviously!). read more

It was our own fault for staying longer than we should have. We were going to a show at the armory and wanted to get drinks and food beforehand. We got there at 5:15. It took almost 30 minutes to get a waiter to come to our table. (Should have left before that) Another 15 to get the drinks! It was not busy until about 6:30. We put our food order in right away knowing it was probably going to get busy. Ended up going to the bartender twice to get drinks faster. We waited two hours and the waitress came up and asked if we needed anything else. We never got our food, drinks were slow, service sucked and we missed the beginning of the show waiting on food that never came. That place is a great location and could really be something someday but I don't see that happening anytime soon. We watched two tables walk out because the food was taking too long. Their menu consists of tacos...not sure how long it takes to make a few tacos. Disappointing place and staff. read more

Made reservations for Saturday morning brunch. Paid $10 to make the reservation. I emailed them asking if we had to cancel for any reason if we would get our money back. They answered and said yes. I got a reminder text 3 hours prior to our reservation. Arrived at 10am for our reservation and they were closed. I called their phone number & it was out of service. Came to this place because it is close to the stadium. The bartender was alone to serve the entire place. We weren't told this when he seated us. No worries, we are in no hurry. Lots of TV's which is great for Sunday football. Food was terrible. I got the Nashville chicken and waffles, there was nothing Nashville about them. They were reg chicken tenders with no flavor at all, let alone spice. My husband got a burger that was rare...not even medium rare. He powered through and ate it. I ate 1/4 of mine and called it. 2 stars for location and a variety of beers on tap. I'd come here to watch the game and drink, not eat. read more

This place is so poorly run. I made a reservation with the link provided on their website. I was sent an email to verify my reservation. Once I verified, the prompt said my reservation isn't valid until I receive an email. I never received such email. I tried leaving a message via email and never received a response. I tried calling only to be disconnected several times. We decided to show up anyway. We arrived 10 minutes after they opened. It took 30 minutes to get our drink order. We ordered Bloody Marys. The table next to us had Bloody Marys. Theirs had garnishes, a salted rim, and were served in a pint glass. Ours came in plastic cups with nothing else. They tasted like tomato juice and vodka. Not a Bloody Mary. One of the drinks was made with whiskey not vodka! We never got a screwdriver because they were out of orange juice. Interesting since the table across from us had mimosas made with orange juice. The food came out an hour after ordering. The 3 breakfast sandwiches were cold, and I never got my burger. We were told French fries were not available. However, our order of pulled pork sandwiches came with fries. At this point we said to cancel our food order and just give us the bill for the drinks, minus the whiskey Bloody Mary. She gave us a bill for $200.00 some dollars. There were items on it we never ordered. We tried to correct it 3 times. Finally we had it. Left after 2 hours still hungry. Management, waitstaff, kitchen staff, and bar staff ineffective. If you do not know, Bar Zia might be owned by new owners. They now have a Vietnamese inspired menu and a the cook is an older Vietnamese lady I am guessing. They carry PHO to Banh Mi's. I gave this only 3 stars (A-OK) becasue the service was slow when we got there and took over an hour to get our food at lunch and we were the only ones in there at the time ordering food. I start off with the quality of the PHO.. they give you standard options for the soup like beef, chicken, etc. They do not offer any tripe/meatballs or any of your traditional meats. They do give you a plate of veggies but missing bean sprouts which I state is a staple for authentic compliments of Pho. That set aside, the broth was flavorful and rich in taste. They offer some Vietnamese style egg rolls that are TO die for. They are thicker than traditional viet style egg rolls, but that is what makes them stand apart. The wrap (seems) homemade but if not..they got me and the meat filling is perfectly balanced with meat and veggies... like standard black fungus that is a main ingredient. The steam dumplings/ wontons... are NOT bland and are great! Banh Mi pork could use a little more seasoning or should be grilled and pink like traditional marinating. Overall, I would try it again and try more things on the menu. They do offer other american/bar foods as well. Thanks Bar Zia! read more

We went there for Sunday Brunch. When we arrived they told us they were not doing brunch that day. Which was disappointing but we decided to stay. Our drinks were served in plastic tiny cups. Our food was not great- and we were given plastic silverware as well. The place had a strange colored light that was strobing all around our faces too. Like it was midnight at a nightclub. Very strange vibe for noon on a Sunday. It was very expensive too considering the food quality and plastic cups and utensils. Definitely do not recommend coming here to eat. Might be fine if you just want a dark place to order a rail drink by yourself. read more

Do you ever avoid having phone conversations in public / plain view? If so, GOOD, thank you! For the most part so do I as on average I don't want the public overhearing what I'm talking about, no matter the content. Today, I was on a conference call with some partners that started in the WF lobby (where I work) and ended just outside Bar Zia. I did it out of respect for myself, Bar Zia & its patrons. Welp, good thing I respect myself. Their employee Jason H. immediately greeted me at the door questioning why I was there and if I was waiting on the bus or a ride, telling me I need to "buy something" if I wanted to wait in there, "like a drink or something". I still had my ear pods in so I never got the chance to really get myself together/fully walk in/hear him all the way. But I had to quickly make clear that no, I was in there to have drinks & dinner. But since he spoke to me like that + his body language I let him know I "can go somewhere else if my money ain't welcomed here". He laughed it off and said that's not the case. I sat at the bar and drank and ate out of convieniece at that point, considering work is across the street, I just worked a 10 hour day + the aforementioned 45 minute conference call, and the light rail being right across the street to go to Saint Paul. But the damage was done: I'll never spend my money in here again. I laughed it off too on my way out the door when Jason H. asked me would I come back, etc. but I was being just as inauthentic as he was. I'd rather crawl thru fire. What did I expect though: I walk past this place over 300+ a year and I've never seen a person or persons who look like me. I just made history walking in there. read more

Came here literally because I saw pho on the window. I was totally skeptical walking into this dive, especially since their entire menu is bar food, with one section now dedicated to pho, banh mi and rice plates. The Vietnamese options are limited but from the quality of my meatball pho, I can totally tell this is authentic. Knocking it down a star for the price though. Pho is a cheap soup staple so paying $11 bucks was hard to justify, but the quality and the portion made up for it. It seems like serving Vietnamese food is newer but I could totally see this place be super popular, especially in the winter, being right next to the stadium- perfect place to warm your belly. read more

Traveled to Minnesota for a concert and wanted to get some food and drinks before we went in. The host looked very lost and couldn't answer a single question I asked. After being seated outside I went to the bar and waited 30 min to even be looked at and eventually get served. The waitress took our order and we waited an hour and 15 min for the food and drinks that never came so we ended up canceling our order and leaving. Poor service and very unorganized. read more

It appears this place is struggling to stay afloat. This was our first time there when we arrived the restaurant was only 1/4 full around 530 on a Saturday we were seated and it took 20 minutes for somebody to come to our table and provide a menu, while we were waiting for our menus, we looked online and the menu on their website does not match the menu that they provide at the restaurant the one at the restaurant as a fraction of the size of options. We tried to order a drink, but the drink that is on their menu that they handed us was not available, we ordered mixed drinks they were provided to us and we're flat the waitress quickly resolve the problem by providing us fresh drinks we put in our orders for burgers and we waited an hour. During that hour we watch the restaurant Phil I had to go up to the bar to get my second drink because the waitress never checked on us at that time. She asked if we wanted our check, but we have not received our food yet, she brought her drinks back to the table and took our little number away which then I had to go back up to the bar a second time and state that we did not receive food which she was surprised if she would've checked on us once over the entire hour, she would have known. We then come to find out that they have no more burgers. They ran out. We were given the menus again to quickly order and they put our order in as priority since at this point we have been there for well over an hour and a half without any food, we ordered one of the few items left which was chicken fingers and fries they were decent, but we also were starving. At that point they were kind enough to give us a 50% off for the terrible situation. We actually sat and witnessed them, trying their hardest to hold everything together, but the wheels are definitely falling off the bus. I would not recommend eating here especially if you have an event to go to that is timely. read more

I'm not sure what happened but all of a sudden this bar has pho and egg roles and they are legit. I work right by here and never thought I'd find a place that had this great of food. Depending upon the day, the service can be slow but it's worth the wait and the staff are always apologetic and helpful. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would....I wish i could say this place was great but I can't. We went here the Sunday after the Vikings game so I understand that they were busy. We called ahead and the staff told us it would be a 20 minute wait- perfect. We get there and have to pay a cover of $10 per person to eat. I asked if the cover was just for dinner and we were told yes. We paid and walked in looking for a seat. There were quite a few empty tables. We sat down and we're told we had to put our names in and would only be able to sit in the bar tables. We put our name down, and we're told we'd be called in 20 minutes....we then bought a drink ($40 for two cocktails) which took 10 minutes just to be acknowledged. After we got our drinks we decided to walk outside and sit at a table- we were told by the waitress it was fine to sit. She said she'd be back and never came back, even though she passed us a few times. After waiting about half an hour, we decided to leave. We were never called for our table either. I have never been more confused about a place in my life. I really wanted to like it from the looks of it, but this has got to be the biggest disappointment ever. I also reached out to have the manager contact me, but I haven't heard anything yet. read more

Bar Zia is probably a good weekday lunch or happy hour restaurant, but is certainly not prepared for an event. With a location just across from US Bank Stadium, I would expect that the restaurant would be prepared for the pre-show rush. We didn't have reservations and expected a wait - but we got in right away. The night was a Taylor Swift concert - one bartender - yes, one! I think I only saw a handful of servers. The people seated next to us ordered the same type of beer, we did - Blue Moon. They ordered about 20 minutes before we did. We got our beer within ~10 min. (Before the people next to us who ordered before we even got there). The people next to us never got their beer - because they ran out - however the server comp'ed their coke (I know, really?) 6:00 at night, one bartender and they ran out of Blue Moon - really? Then my food came - dried out chicken breast, on a dried out bun - and stale, unsalted chips, no flatware and no condiments. I don't recommend and will not be a return customer read more
