We went for the first time to Bar Ware on Friday night during restaurant week. We were so excited to try out this new place. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. We had a reservation and the hostess that checked us in was very kind and welcoming. The server however, was extremely rude. When he first approached the table, he never said welcome. He never even mentioned his name. He pointed out that it was restaurant week, and that we would be going clockwise when he took our orders, and he promptly left. 25 minutes past and we actually had to go ask someone to send him over. We did not even have a first drink yet. He took our drink orders and left and it was another 20-25 minutes before he came back to take our food orders. We normally order 3 to 5 cocktails apiece and several bottles of wine when we go out to dinner. We barely got one cocktail during this visit and no refills on water. There needs to be some serious customer service training for your waitstaff and also noted how much money was not spent with just our party due to the inability to place drink orders. We dine out as a group of 7-12 at least twice a week. We won't be back due to the poor customer service and the inability to enjoy the full experience of dining out. I would like to add we heard from barware and they were shocked of our experience. They informed us they have addressed the problems. read more

The vibe, decor and atmosphere all set the stage for a great night out or a quick pop in before or after another stop. The drink menu is diverse and the drinks are very nicely mixed. The food stands out on its own and should be compared to fine foodie restaurants rather than other bars. We started with the "Fancy Ass Icepick No 2" and the "Law Dawg" as our first drinks. They were both amazing - the alcohol blended very well with the other flavors. We each had the French Onion Soup which was perhaps the best soup of this type either of us have experienced. The broth was thick and rich - perfect for a cold night! We shared a mushroom mac and cheese dish that's not on the online menu but was great as comfort food goes. We finished the night with the "World's Smallest Sundae", a great wine and another of the "Law Dawg". Bar Ware was full but not over crowded. We went in for drinks before and orpheum show. I ordered an aperol spritz & my partner ordered a mint julep. Lets talk about the aperol spritz...I had really high hopes considering the whole patio is advising that very drink. What I got (and did not come close to finishing) was not an aperol spritz at all and quite frankly, really gross. I watched him make the drink & he free poured everything, which isn't a big deal as long as you know what you're doing, but he got a wine glass with ice & poured aperol and filled it over half way, added what seemed about 1.5 oz of simple syrup, and topped with club soda. No bubbly, no orange. I hate to say it but it was the worst drink I have ever had from a bar . I was going to let him know (gently) but he never even asked how we were doing or how things tasted. So, I just asked for some additional club soda, he topped the drink but didn't even ask what the issue was I had over 3/4 of the drink left when we tabbed out. The mint julep. Long story short, my partner was served a whiskey sour garnished with lime. We also noticed that there were bottles being stored in the ice well that was also used to get the ice for the drinks. We usually love Bare Ware but this trip has left us feeling really disappointed. read more

The service here is so bad. There are other places downtown to get a better drink (Catherine and Mary's, lobbyist, bishop, central station, silly goose, longshot, slider inn, Amelia genes, bar hustle, loflin, birdies, etc ) try all these places before you go here. We've been multiple times and every time the service is bad. This last time was the last straw (weve been trying to give it a chance, we live downtown so we go out a lot). The bartender took our drink order and got frustrated we took time to look over the menu and then talked to the couple next to us and said "since they are taking so long I'll just wait 30mins next time they want to order a drink". We tried to blow it off and close out and just leave....they literally took 30mins to bring us our check after one drink. We had to flag down multiple servers. Bar Ware is beautifully decorated and I think when they have a little more time to get settled, it will be a great place to grab a drink. My friends and I were there on Friday night and our waiter was very sweet and had a very friendly smile. We started by ordering two drinks and two iced teas. The two drinks arrived about ten minutes later and they were beautifully presented. We got the watermelon drink and their version of an old fashioned. The watermelon drink was absolutely gorgeous and came in the cutest glass, but it tasted like iced ocean water that quickly turned to the taste of cement when you drank it. I decided to just order an iced tea and try something else on my next visit. All three teas arrived about an hour after we had first ordered them and they all came in separate glasses. My friend's tea arrived in a tall glass with ice (standard tea glass), mine arrived in something similar to a cordial glass with no ice, and the third arrived in another short cordial type glass with no ice an on a serving plate. Very strange presentation. We ordered the hummus trio, the charcuterie plate, two pastas, and the twice baked potato. The dips were very good and flavorful and came with warm pita bread. The charcuterie plate was pretty standard with your typical offerings of grapes, water crackers, cheese, and prosciutto. The pasta noodles had a great texture and were slightly spicy. The twice baked potato was very small and slightly sour but beautifully presented. We noticed a few other strange things that may be attributed to being very busy and under staffed, but I think we might give this place another try in a few months. I'm torn between 3/4 stars. The potential is there. The ambiance is nice and ideal to meet friends for drinks. We visited on Sunday for brunch and there was a band on the patio . The service was just okay. They ran out of the ripple potatoes not enough for a full order but what we had was enough to make us want to come back for more.The waitress was not especially knowledgeable when asked questions. We ordered shrimp ceviche tacos which were served on corn tortillas. We are not fans of corn tortillas so we mostly just ate the filling which was delicious. The drink we had was good, attempted to order more but after an extended wait even though the bartender was not busy at all we decided to cancel and depart. I would visit again in hopes that the staff will become more comfortable with the menu and preparing drinks. read more

The drinks are STRONG. One was more than plenty for me and I'm not a lightweight. I had the Law Dawg and it was good, but if I wanted to only taste bourbon, I would have ordered it neat. The decor is really cool, but it is super dark and loud inside. Our waitress was rude and condescending, interrupting us multiple times as we were placing our orders and completely walking away from our table before one person in our party fully placed their order. She then rushed us to finish our drinks because we were not ordering food, despite the fact they weren't busy. Three months is plenty of time to work out the kinks and there's no excuse for rude service, so I'm not sure Barware will be part of rotation of places to patronize. read more

Let's get the good out of the way first, Great atmosphere, decor and service. I don't think Bar Ware has an equal in that category in 100 miles but I will say the food selection and drinks are much to be desired. On a Saturday night with 2 major events going on you shouldn't be out of anything at 9pm. The shrimp stack was edible, nothing special at all deviled eggs were missing in action and the drinks tasted terrible none of them tasted good. Like how many drinks do you have to return or force down ? For a bar it seemed like the drinks were missing something and hopefully arrogance won't stop them from changing their menu. The potential is there for sure. read more

I really like this place! We have been twice and have left happy both times. We've had a couple different drinks from their signature cocktail menu, a couple of fro-beers, and cocktails that weren't on the menu. They didn't know a couple of the drinks we ordered but were eager to look them up and give them a try, and both times we were really happy with them! We came to Memphis from Nashville on business and popped into Bar Ware after dinner. The bar here is FANTASTIC! We had already eaten so we weren't hungry. The bartender, Alex, was super knowledgeable and fast and knew how to make pre-prohibition era speak easy drinks. Not only did he know how to make them but actually made them delicious!
