The only thing we did not like at all which was the tres leches bread pudding- it was not our thing at all. It had guava ice cream with rum but did not go with the pudding part. After the seeing weeks of non-avoidable promos on Instagram-- I finally paid a visit during Restaurant Week 2023. I was thoroughly impressed by the ambiance here, that is, it's actually as playful and vibrant as those "influencer" videos. We visited just after brunch ~4pm for an early dinner and the place was busy. One of the biggest draws of Tabú is their drinks menu as they have an extensive cocktails list and if flights are your thing you can order Mezcal flights. That's honestly a first-- especially in West Loop! I settled on their $15 "Romancing the Stone" cocktail which was a surprising delight of Tiki meets Mexico with Patron Silver, Mezcal & pineapple-lime for ingredients. If I ordered it again, I'd tell them to take it easy on the pineapple liqueur as it cut the mezcal flavor.. All that aside the restaurant week menu felt like it only sampled a quarter of their dinner menu and so it wasn't as fulfilling as I hoped. ::: So here's my breakdown ::: DO: · Lobster flautas · Chips with Jicama Pineapple Habañero salsa · Korean Sticky Mushroom tacos · Que-FC tacos · Ask for a nacho chips refill · Consider a large format drink, the "Nebula" drink is out of this world DON'T: · Chicken Romesco, idk what I had expected · Tres Leches bread pudding, it was pretty dry VERDICT: All in all, this was a fun experience. Not even kidding, I just found my favorite new restaurant in Chicago! My friends took me here for brunch for my birthday (hello 26!) and Tabu most certainly did not disappoint. The decor here is EVERYTHING. So so unique to say the least, I've never seen anything like it. Ropes hanging from the ceiling, beautiful wall art everywhere, pretty plants - I was distracted from checking in with the host because I kept looking at the huge gorgeous lounge area when you walk in! Their bar is very long and they have a lot of 1:1 tables along with booths for bigger groups. They have a rooftop open during warmer months, as well. The food..... the FOOD. Wow. I got the chicken & churros and would easily eat that for breakfast every day of my life. The slaw that came with it was also so refreshing and a perfect additive. I already have a lot of other things that caught my eye from the menu that I'm dying to try when I come back. Their cocktails are also so different and perfect. The best part is everything is incredibly reasonably priced! It's not an expensive restaurant by any means but you would totally think it is. If you are driving to this location, there are a lot of options for parking. There is street parking and spot hero options around. We had a reservation for a party of 5 for a birthday dinner. We sat pretty fast and met our waiter for the evening. While the service was a little slow to get water and the bill, our waiter was extremely friendly. We started off w the salsa trio, not bad. Four out of the five people got the steak frites. It was good. Personally, the steak could have used a little more flavor, but it was cooked well. The fries were delicious. Finally made it to Tabu and loved it!!! I am in awe of the colors and interiors of this place. It's beautifully decorated and so aesthetically pleasing . Lots of opportunities for great photo ops. Spacious place, great for GNO, holiday parties or date nights. We were there for a weekend brunch and had a wonderful time. Every thing we tried was delicious!! I can't rave enough about the Burnt Habanero Honey Pomegranate guac, it's guac with spicy kick to it, loved it. The concha French toast was also amazing. I couldn't stop eating that. Very interesting Mexican restaurant. Had a lot of club vibes there with the lighting and DJ booth. I believe they have weekend DJ nites. I think they could really turn this into a bumping night club on weekends. Food and drinks were pretty awesome. The only thing I didn't like was the mole dip tacos. The Que-fc tacos were awesome. All their chips guacamole and salsas were fresh and had lots of flavour pop to them. The desserts were just average but a nice twist of tropical flavours like passion fruit and guava ice cream. Washrooms we're downstairs with these large seats in the middle of the room which gave the vibe of soundbar's lower level. I didn't like just how dark the whole place was. I'd recommend to management turn up the light a bit for weeknight dining. I have perfect eye sight but still needed a phone light to read the menu. I had been wanting to go to Tabú for months and I finally got to go. I am so sad I didn't go earlier because man was this food one of the best! The restaurant itself is so divine. The decor is perfect and colorful. So many things catch your eye while having a delicious meal. Drinks were great and looked so pretty! To start off, the steak Tartare was so good. We also had the octopus and the Bandeja Paisa Tacos. What a great fusion of flavors! Everything was a 10/10. When we got there, our table took a while to be ready but to apologize for the wait, the manager gifted us a couple cocktails. Boyfriend and I needed a late night dinner on a Thursday night in West Loop after an event at Morgan MFG, and Tabu happened to be near and fit the bill. The space is trendy, vibrant, and eclectic - truly a fun and upscale ambiance but still warm and intimate. Prices are a bit high, even for Chicago, but really worth it for the quality and experience. The menu is really unique and varied, and - while I didn't have a chance to try any of their tequila flights or amazing-sounding cocktails - drinks are definitely part of the experience here. If in the area from 4-5:30pm on a weekday, the happy hour may be a good time to come by to try the place out. That said, I would love to come again for the food alone! We thought we were going "simple" but our tacos were anything but: my boyfriend raved about his BandEja Paisa Tacos (He's a Chorizo lover), and I got the vegetarian Truffle Gnocchi Tacos, which were creamy, unique, and so very satisfying. The size is thick. I read another review that the sauce had mayonnaise, so I thought it'd be the main flavor, but the potatoes are actually salted/seasoned and the sauce had a sort of colorful pepper flavor that added a pop of flavor to the potatoes. Bendeja Paisa Taco (Chorizo, Grilled Skirt Steak, Plantain, Chicharron, Quail Egg, Salsa Verde, Avocado, Hand-pressed Tortilla) - With so many toppings, we thought it'd be an overload, but this tasted amazing! Everything went well together. I especially liked the sweet plantains. Queso fundido - This was basically a thick, savory cheese dip. It's thick and while we thought the sizing was okay, we couldn't finish it. I ended up taking it to-go and made mini quesadillas. It came with a tomato sauce and pickled vegetables that added brightness to the thickness of the cheese. Mushrooms - These are garlicky, Asian-tasting mushrooms. They were soft and stir-fried. My new brunch spot in Fulton Market We loved it here there are so many options in this area . But Tabu is a rising star in my book . I saw this restaurant on Instagram and had to try it out for myself. My daughter was my date for the day. Grab your girls or boo and try it out. I believe it's a take on notable Latin dishes . Sunday brunch sat at the bar. First mistake! The 2 bartenders were terrible with service. They were not paying attn and on their phones most the time. They Never checked on us and/or the food. Had to ask for everything as they never looked up. The food was just okay. I had to send my food back cause the meat was so dry you couldn't eat it. They just put a bunch of cheese on top to hide it I feel. The potatoes weren't cooked evenly. I saw a few other people send there food back as well. I've been to Tabu twice now and both times I left full of good food and drinks. I HIGHLY recommend the Tijuana Unicorn show (pictured), especially if you're a natural fruity/mezcal fan. I went with the steak tacos topped with quail egg and partnered with fried plaintain. I was not a huge fan of the plaintain on this taco, it didn't fit the flavor and texture profile in my opinion, and came out pretty dry, but that aside the tacos were phenomenal read more

This place is beautiful and tucked into the emptier part of West Loop. The interior is decorated very well and great for groups (especially for a GNO!). They have large format cocktails and lots of delicious taco/non taco options to choose from. The spice of life cocktail was refreshing and light with my meal. Service was so slow at first but food came out quickly since it was an emptier Tuesday night. Our nachos dish was amazing and huge! Another great option for a group. The grilled octopus was delicious and tender. We also shared the jicama burrito salad (not really a salad but more like a healthy veggie burrito), which was a nice complement to the bandeja paisa tacos (chorizo and skirt steak). I came here to try their brunch menu for restaurant week and left overall dissatisfied.. mostly because I felt like I could've gotten more value elsewhere. The guac with the habanero honey was fire! Each bite had that perfect creaminess and sweetness and ended on a bold spicy note. The pomegranate seeds aded a fun crunch texture too. I'll definitely attempt to jus my guac similarly in the future. The taco was good but I did wish the pork belly was thicker. The morita glaze was a burst of flavor. Their CRW menu included 4 courses for $42 which is a pretty good deal to me. Ambiance: The restaurant itself is beautiful inside! Plenty of photo opportunities with all the vibrant colors and decor! This place is perfect to have brunch with the girls. Service: This is where their score hurt the most. The service was very subpar and they weren't even that busy. It took like 15-20 min for my table to even be acknowledged by a waiter or busboy. It also took so long just to get the first course - which was simply only chips and guac for everyone. It bothered me that they always brought the next course without clearing the used plates beforehand because the tables are pretty small and trying to fit food on the table for 4 people was a mess. Our waiter would check in at the times we didn't need her but be MIA at the times we did need her. Overall, it did not flow well. Food: The food portion was goood but not good enough to bring me back. My favorite dishes were the corn fritters and the tacos because they had the most flavor. I do appreciate their unique menu items! I was most disappointed with their dessert. The churros bites tasted weird and had a more soft/cake consistency - as if they were undercooked. The good: - huge space and the decor is so fun - the cemitas madame was delicious - pork belly taco was good but the RW was just one taco, unsure if this is their normal portion The bad: - the guacamole had a pretty big kick to it. The Korean sticky mushroom tacos are to dieeeee for! Please trust me on this and order these when you visit. I would skip the truffle gnocchi tacos though. Visited Tabu last Sunday after much anticipation and it did not disappoint ! First of all I love that it's a bit down the street away from the cramped busy streets of Fulton Market. I had a sort of mint spritz that was refreshing. There was a special prix fixe menu that night so we got to taste a bit of everything. Come to Tabu for the VIBES. This spot is new-ish - having just opened in the last couple of months. We happened to drop in to Chicago for the day and most bars/restaurants around us were fully booked/closed for private events. Fortunately, Tabu happened to have a couple of spots open for us to grab a table. Tabu is an eclectically beautiful spot, with a bunch of different colors, styles, and textures in their decor. The front seating area is the cutest but apparently they don't seat people there - it is just overflow from the bar. We originally just came for post-work drinks. We ordered some salsa and chips. They have 5 salsa options available, and the order comes with 3 small bowls of the flavor of your choosing. We got the Sofrito 3 Chiles, Jicama Pineapple Habanero, and Pumpkin Seed Romanesco. I was obsessed with the Sofrito 3 Chiles. The pumpkin and jicama pineapple were also good, though the pineapple was is definitely more sweet/tangy than spicy. The pumpkin had some mild heat, but mostly savory. Don't remember what we ordered from drinks, but overall positive reviews from the table. Additionally, we ended up ordering the Churroulette. I kind of love the concept behind it wherein out of the 8 churros in your order, 2 of them are randomly spiked with habanero. Good luck to you ;) The churros are pre-dipped 3 different dipping sauces: guava, chocolate, and dulce de leche. Each cup is topped with a toasted marshmallow, with the churro plunged into the middle. Overall, not the best churro ever, but it is fun to share with a group because of the roulette concept. Finally, we ended up ordering tacos to eat since we had several round of drinks so we were finally hungry for dinner. We ordered the 'Que-FC' (lol) and Korean Sticky Mushroom. I was okay with the Que-FC taco and the Korean Sticky Mushroom was pretty interesting in concept. Overall, felt that the broccolini piece was too big so when you take a bite of the taco, the whole broccolini piece comes out with it, so you dont get a perfect bite everytime. Overall, think this would be a great post-work spot for some snacks and drinks because of the great atmosphere and tasty cocktails/mocktails - not convinced on the food quite yet but would give it another try to see how the rest of the menu tastes. read more

10/10. Everything was a 10/10. Run, don't walk. When you walk in you're instantly transported into a colorful Mexican ball of fun. The music, decor, lighting...all of it was top tier. Our server was also amazing, offering suggestions (good ones at that) and getting our drinks and food out to us quickly. For starters we had the corn fritters and lobster flautas. The corn fritters were AMAZING! I didn't love the lobster rolls but everyone else at the table did (and apparently everyone else who visits according to Yelp lol). Staff was very gracious and helpful, we were originally seating near the front next to a large group party, when we asked to be moved to somewhere a little quieter they were happy to assist. Highly recommend the Truffle Gnocchi tacos, one of the most unique and yummy tasting tacos I've had. My friends had the Korean Sticky Mushroom tacos and the Que-FC tacos both raves about those as well. We ordered the tlayuda nachoes as a starter, they came in a giant bowl, we only ate the edges and didn't even get to the middle part of it; huge portion. Tasted unique and great though. Had pieces of pineapple in it as well that was a surprise. We ordered the tres leche bread pudding for dessert; in full honesty the guava syrup and the rompope ice cream weren't really my group's favorite; but it might just have been an acquired taste situation. This was a new must-visit spot on my radar so I had to get it checked off. The restaurant is pretty and the food quite attractive. To drink, I ordered the Sunrise over Jalisco which was as tasty as it looked if not more, and next I had was the Tijuana Unicorn Show, also a good pick! Started off our meal with the Lobster Flatuas. This was such a good accompaniment to the delicious, sweet drinks and had the perfect balance of textures with the crunch of the exterior, bite of the beautifully cooked lobster inside, gooeyness of the gouda and balance in the overall flavor with the lime crema on the side to dip it in. Highly recommend! The Grilled Octopus was cooked well and the crispy forbidden rice it came with was extremely unusual but extremely enjoyable too! And lastly, having the Korean Sticky Mushroom was a worthwhile experience. It had great texture, spice and subtle sweetness, and I would definitely order it again. It also had inside what resembled the taste of the forbidden rice in the Grilled Octopus dish so the same texture followed here as well. I spoke on the phone with the manager before going because I have a severe wheat allergy and avoid gluten/wheat. I asked about the items marked gluten free on the menu that were fried like the lobster flautas/chips etc. Manager says they have multiple fryers and the GF stuff is made separately. When I get there, the server says he checked with the chef & everything is fried in the same fryer/would be contaminated. So we ordered the queso fundido & tacos labeled GF and I reminded my server about the allergy. After eating 1 taco I felt sick so I didn't finish the rest of my food. Assuming there was cross contamination because I have a bad stomachache/upset stomach and I'm really nauseous. Luckily not enough contamination for an epipen but definitely enough to make me sick. I had a reservation made for the actual restaurant, but we were instructed to get into an elevator without knowing there were two separate spaces and accidentally ended up at the rooftop. Definitely was a surprise, and wish we had done the actual restaurant experience BEFORE the rooftop as there is a limited menu up there, but I'm not mad about it. The DJ was actually playing fun music (classics too 40's mixed with Latin) and the volume was pretty loud, but I can tell it's a fun place to bring a bunch of friends late at night for drinks and small bites (there's an area in front of the DJ where I saw people having a good time dancing). It's definitely a more casual vibe on the rooftop than the restaurant I'm assuming (i.e: drinks in plastic cups, paper plates, disposable cutlery, etc). We had the mole tacos, Que F C tacos, esquite corn fritters, and octopus. Food was good although small portions for the price. Both my boyfriend and I were surprised that the octopus tasted more like crab than actual octopus. The corn fritters were definitely a must and are served with a generous serving of dipping sauce. I still want to try out the restaurant because there's dishes on there that I had intended on trying which were not on the rooftop menu. As far as service goes, it felt kind of everywhere, but everything came out generally quick! Our server didn't ask if we wanted to order food after he brought water and my drink out, so we had to quickly tell him the order before he tried to run away, but it was fine haha. I don't think they were expecting us to order a full dinner that late, but again, we weren't expecting to end up on the roof either. Taco Bell food with Michelin attitude. The front of house staff barely condescend to acknowledge your presence as you enter if you don't fit their conception of cool and certainty can't be bothered to raise their eyes from their phones as you leave. This tired venue is now a victim the attitudes of its staff who think, way past their best-by date that it's a kind of culinary Studio 54. See you around in Arby's guys. read more

I would describe this as a very instagrammable location lol. Service was fantastic, drinks were great, music, vibe etc... Food was a little mid but I would still recommend checking it out. The tortilla chips were very fresh and tasty. The sauces that go with the chips are all very unique. I loved the pineapple one. The other 2 were edible. The avocado toast was desperate for seasoning and the fritter was a bit odd. I wanted to try the churro roulette but it was a pretty busy day and we had already been there for a while when we got the servers attention and didn't want to wait any longer for them to come out. Came here for my birthday dinner. Love it here. It was restaurant week when I came here with my sister. We call and there is open seating by the bar or lounge. We order three appetizers and three entree. Let me say I am a happy girl walking out with a full belly. Would recommend and come back to try other dishes. The octopus, gac (habanero and honey with pomegranate seed!) and corn fritters are the bomb! read more

I have never written a restaurant review, but our experience was so negative that I feel compelled to. I've worked in the service industry for over six years, including as a server, so I understand that mistakes happen--but what happened here went far beyond that. From the start, our server was rude and inattentive. We ordered appetizers and each of us clearly stated that we wanted them to come out first. Despite this, she seemed confused, double-checked three times, and still got it wrong. Our appetizer arrived with our entrées and it was the wrong item. Again, I understand that mix-ups happen, but instead of handling it professionally, our server became combative. Rather than acknowledging the mistake, she argued with us, insisting we had never specified we wanted the appetizer first--something we had repeatedly clarified. I've experienced both good and bad service, but I have never had a server outright argue with me over their own mistake. When we asked to have the incorrect appetizer removed from the bill, she continued to push back. Then, as we were addressing the issue, she abruptly told us that the check couldn't be split--despite the fact that we had never asked to split it. Her tone was rude and dismissive. Eventually, a manager came over. While she "nice," she was condescending and unwilling to take accountability. At that point, it was clear that nothing would be resolved. My guess is that because gratuity was automatically included due to our large party, there was no incentive for them to provide even decent service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Looking back, the nearly empty restaurant on a Friday night should have been a red flag.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This was, hands down, one of the worst service experiences I've ever had. Unless you enjoy spending $400 to be gaslit and argued with, I'd strongly recommend going somewhere else. The only redeeming quality was the drinks were pretty good. read more

Came in here randomly for a quick brunch and had a lovely time. The bartender made us reealllyyy good iced coffees. They weren't even on the menu, we just asked for iced coffee w cream and sugar and she made it for us, so frothy and yummy! The esquite corn fritters were bomb. The applewood smoked bacon was super thick and tasty. Chilaquiles and bfast tacos were pretty good as well. I was pleasantly surprised by this spot! Parking in the area is a little rough as is all parking in the west loop. read more
