Springtime in the pop-up Secret Garden here. What a beautiful treat! We visited here before heading to Honey Bridal down the street. The covered patio was warmed by the sunlight, bright, and alive with floral decor. It felt like very "Alice in Wonderland." I could have sat here sipping cocktails and enjoying appetizers all afternoon! The fresh hummus with pita appetizer and warm pretzel we tried were tasty and light. Also enjoyed the crab dip with crostini. I got "Locked in the Shed" a delightful spin on and old fashioned, infused with Ume plum liqueur and honey. I will have to remember this mix when I want to change it up from an old fashioned at home. This is an ideal place for Instagram photo opps and a group gathering while listening to a pleasing music Playlist. Such a cute holiday bar! They change up the drinks and decorations for different holidays throughout the year. This time of the year they have an indoor patio with actual fireplaces that groups can sit around and just yap, all with fun festive decorations around and with Christmas music playing in the background Their drinks, though more expensive, were yummy and imo worth paying for if just as an excuse to hang out at the bar. This is so much more worth it imo than the girls holiday bars around the city that you have to pay for a ticket just to go in... and it's loud, crowded, and you wanna leave within 30 minutes... read more

I was here for 30 minutes and ran out. Was here at 7:30 pm and there was at least 10 very small children allowed in that were screaming at the top of their lungs. This is the worst type of neighborhood bar where kids are way overly welcome. My advice......go to Applebees!!! read more

I wanted to come here for all the Halloween decor! Very cute, we brought our dog and sat on the patio! They haves bones and we ordered a frozen beef bone broth for doggy! Service was really slow, but they apologized, they had an event going on upstairs. To drink we got the purple people eater. This was good, it smelled pretty funky tho. To eat we got chilaquiles and the sliders. The chilaquiles were good, I like how the tortillas were soft! The sliders were ok, not much flavor with them. read more

A new favorite Christmas locale has been unlocked! Stopped into The Dandy Crown on Friday night to have some drinks with friends. It's funny, we only went in because my friend bikes past it all the time and noticed all the Christmas decorations and I'm grateful he did! The entirety of the inside feels like a cozy home, like someone's basement with a bar and a warm fireplace and some board games. Candles in the bathroom, that sort of thing! There are two pretty big patios, one of which is enclosed with several fire-pits and is where we ended up sitting. At least right now for the holidays, every inch is covered in Christmas decorations and there is a special Holiday menu. I had both the mulled wine and the hot cider which were both very good and perfectly conducive to good conversation. Perhaps the wine was a bit anise-y, but it was a unique flavor I hadn't had before, so ‍. Service was quick and although the bar was busy, our table was given great attention, which was of course rewarded with us continuing to order drinks! Will be back and will bring people back for not only the holidays but (all-year) patio season. VERY good date spot, could see this being ideal for a first date as well. read more

The Dandy Crown in River West is such a fun cocktail bar! They describe their vibe as "laid-back-lux" and I think that's totally on the money. They've got a covered patio with fire pits and lots of indoor space. I also really appreciated that they had games sitting around for people to play. The bartender also told me that they have comedy shows on Wednesdays. Can't wait to go back for one of them!! For my first drink I got the Big Lemon cocktail. It was fantastic!! It was a blanco tequila drink with mezcal, honey, lemon, and ancho chilli. It also had a bit of pamplemousse in there, which I had only had in La Croix before! Definitely would order again. My second drink was the Once More, Again cocktail. It has resposado tequila, crème de cacao, blanco vermouth, genepy, and lemon. I actually let the bartender pick this for me because all the cocktails looked so good that I couldn't pick one. It was great!! This place has been on my list of places to try for a minute, so I'm glad I had a chance to stop in for Happy Hour today. A note: the Happy Hour menu is SHORT, but if you love a good Old Fashioned, you'll be fine. I started with an Old Fashioned, and it definitely packed a punch! It was; however, pretty well balanced, so even though it was strong, it was good. It had a bit of a spice/spicy finish that I enjoyed. I also asked for a Surprise, Surprise. The bartender asked me if I wanted the drink shaken or stirred, and that was it! Since I said stirred, my drink was a mix of Blanco tequila, bitters, Vermouth, and some other ingredients. I'm definitely NOT a tequila fan, but it was pretty good. I wouldn't order another, though, unless it were with a different spirit since I'm a whiskey/bourbon/cognac fan. Happened upon this bar on the way back home. It looked totally cool and we had to come in. The Dandy Crown is one of the most laid back places in town. Cocktails are top notch and priced accordingly. For sure prices kept us from getting a lot more. A cool little bar is inside, but it may be even better on the patio, so there's no bad seat in the house. It has bartenders that are extremely knowledgeable. They really know how to make a stiff drink but one also full of class and taste. It's about $12 for a cocktail. There's some that are even more. Because of the price we only got a couple. The one I got was the Stuck In The Middle With You. It had a good name. This was made with Aquavit, Becherovka, citrus vodka, lemon, sparkling rose, and spiced cordial, so there were a lot of flavors mixing together. Good quality liquor. It has a happy hour featuring slightly better prices. The prices were pretty fair because of the effort and what it was made with. read more

Came here for a drink with my boyfriend. He ordered a miller high life. A few minutes later, one of the bartenders came over. I thought she was going to take my order, instead she grabbed my boyfriend's beer and said "you can't bring that in here" and stormed away. My boyfriend and I looked at each other flabbergasted. The Dandy Crown is a neighborhood spot in River West. I always assumed it was more of a bar but then learned of their food menu not too long ago. We finally decided to try it last night and opted to sit in their enclosed patio which has heat lamps available if you're visiting in the winter. They are also DOG FRIENDLY. When we walked in, it took a minute to be greeted as there seems to be no host but instead the bartenders double as the greet staff. The enclosed patio has a few tables and chairs as well as couches for people wanting to get a little more comfy with their fancy drinks. We opted to see what the food was all about! We ordered the beef sliders and they were GOOD. Amazing flavor; a little sweetness to the sauce and mostly savory. We also got the beef short ribs and it also was delicious. The brussel sprouts on the plate were nothing to rave about, but the brussel sprout appetizer had a lot more going on! Butternut squash purée and they Brussels had a nice char/crisp on them. Loved these as well! Our server was helpful, but he looked busy! And the only main downside was how long it felt to get the food. Overall, this is a great place to get together with friends or grab drinks/good food when you don't want to leave your four-legged best friend at home. Visited recently to check out their holiday menu and set up and it was well worth it! There are a lot of Christmas bars across Chicago during the holidays, but most of them give off a club feel and are so packed with people that you can't enjoy the Christmas cocktails or the ambience. The Dandy Crown does things differently. Reservations are highly recommended, you get your own table to enjoy your drinks from while a playlist of oldies and Christmas music class over the speakers. There are so many cocktails to choose from. I opted for the coquito cocktail and their take on a moscow mule, both were great. They also had a mulled wine and hot cider that my partner got which were delicious as well. We have the opportunity to dime in the upstairs portion of the restaurant, which was much quieter and quaint. Our server was super attentive, despite us being upstairs. We also ordered some food, the impossible sliders were unexpectedly delicious, but the charcuterie board left a little to be desired, it was ok, just not great. If I had one critique, it would be that the tables were very small. So ordering food and eating it was a bit of a challenge. But if you're just going for drinks, this is not an issue. even if you are, it's not enough of an issue not to go, just something I wanted to mention. My experience left a lasting impression on me and I'll definitely be back in the warmer months to enjoy their huge patio! read more

Currently here as we planned a weekend trip to Chicago for some fun with friends. As this was supposed to be a Halloween themed fun spot, decided to make this our first stop of the trip. We are currently here & unfortunately we are very dissatisfied. We waited over 30 minutes for a server to get greet us, even after asking twice about service. Then another 15 minutes for our drinks to be served. There are 4 of us & 3 ordered the specialty cocktails and found them to be lackluster at best. Finally made it here! It's been on my list for a while, but what finally got me here was the Very Dandy Holiday theme! I'm a sucker for an overly decorated, cozy Christmas themed bar during this time of year and Dandy Crown delivered. Their enclosed patio with ALL the lights, a few fires, a tree, and some other decor was a great spot to sample many of their themed cocktails. Service was fine - they were super nice even though they were clearly pretty slammed inside and outside. It took a while to get our first round and the guy immediately said it was on the house. Getting our check was also really slow but just gave us more time to chill. The inside is also cozy with a few couches and a bunch of games you can play while there. The outside space is lovely. It's a Dog friendly patio. In the colder months they have fire pits outside. There are lots of places to sit and it is semi covered. The inside is a little smaller in comparison. The drinks change over time, seasonally I believe. I have been several times over the last year and each time I have had a great cocktail. This isn't my go to for a nice cocktail though because I find the service to be not attentive enough. During the pandemic the tables had a time limit but it took so long to get your drink or your servers attention it was frustrating. More recently this has been less of an issue but it is still not as attentive compared to other bars in the area. There are small plates as well, the charcuterie board is nice. Overall, nice place for a small group or couple going for a drink. Best to me if the plan is one drink before or after dinner so that the service is less noticeably an issue. 3.5 My friends and I were doing a bar crawl and this was one of the establishments we started off with If you're not familiar with the area, you're definitely miss this place cuz it's tucked off in a corner. Parking can be tough as well. I had to circle the block several times and when I went to spy hero all of the parking was at least 5 or 6 blocks away. So I roll the dice and decided to park when I got there. I was able to find a park on the street. Really nervous about it but all was well. My car was not harmed in the process. The inside of this place is really really cute. I love the dark blue and gold elements of it. I can definitely see a girl's night or a sexy couples night. The patio is definitely decorated for Halloween and very spacious. I don't know if maybe it's a beer garden when it's not decorated for something seasonally, but it's very spacious. Decorated for the holiday we picked a great day to be there and enjoyed the weather. The wait staff outside was very pleasant. On to the negative I did not like the food offerings for the black lagoon Halloween menu. Half of us ordered a chicken sandwich to split because we're going to another establishment and the other half of the group did like a fish dip. Neither one of us was happy about the food. It was awful. It just was not for us and I think each item was at least $20 each. I did like my drink. It was like a shot. Don't remember the name of it right now. Me and a very good friend swung by for brunch recently and I'm not sure what to think. Its in a pretty up and coming vibrant area and has good reviews on here for the most part. The place was empty the whole 3 hours we were there...on a Sunday. They have a really nice sized patio in which I believe they have performers come and play music. I think some guy was setting up as we left. I got the Chicken & Waffles in which its not your ordinary version of the dish. It was chocolate chip waffles along with braised chicken in dandy mole, sweet California chile and tortilla crumbs. This sounded like a great idea but the dish did not mesh well together. Fried chicken should probably be the play every time with this dish. Flavor just was not there. My friend got the egg white frittata and it needed salt as the flavor lacked there. She added bacon to it in which the braised bacon (as stated on the online menu) seems to be a paste cooked into the dish per the server and we were not informed that was the case. This paste costs an additional $5. Either someone was lying or they were just too lazy to make the bacon...I'm not sure. The server who said this was her first brunch assignment seemed to be confused about how this was supposed to come out. Got the brunch spritz and while my dining companion enjoyed it, I did not. It tasted like liquid mint. I would return here for drinks maybe on this huge patio, but would not return for brunch unless they extend the very short menu. I see there is a 4-6 happy hour, so maybe I can check that out. read more

We ended up sitting at the bar bc the outdoor patio was not available and hoping to get a better vibe. Staff warmed up a bit but were very preoccupied and busily moving around. Initially were just going to just get apps and drinks but decided to stay and eat. Started with the bar trio which included nuts, popcorn and corn nuts. So thumbs up to this; whatever they did to those peanuts kudos to you. The popcorn is advertised as seasoned with ole bay and we didnt taste that but it was still tasty and the corn nuts hit the spot My drink was just ok. I later found out it was batched which was disappointing considering they consider themselves a craft cocktail bar. For non drinkers they have a nice amount of non-alcholic drinks as well. We also had the Brussels which were ok, not bad but didn't knock my socks off and the crab cakes which were excellent, they could've kept the slaw tho yuck! for the main course I had the chicken sandwich without the mayo ( I don't do the white sauce) and it was basic ironically the homemade potato chips which I didnt want were great! Came here for celebratory late night drinks. The patio space is big and beautiful. Very accommodating for our large group. This was a perfect atmosphere for an event like this. I am very happy that the organizers chose this place. They mention a lot of things on their website about pandemic precautions like asking for proof of vaccination and whatnot. I had my vaccination card saved on my phone but they did not ask for it in the end. I do like that it seems like they are cautious. Unfortunately I cannot say anything about the food, but they have an excellent choice of cocktails. I recommend the siesta and the shanghai cocktail. read more
