Nutella Cake & Cappucino
Mindy L.

My review is only for the dessert cafe (not for the restaurant). JT and I stumbled upon Monnalisa while looking for a dessert and nightcap. Monnalisa's was able to deliver on both. We were like Hansel and Gretyl stumbling upon the gingerbread cottage in the middle of a forest...mouths watering, faces pressed up against the glass... Thankfully, a lovely waitress was able to tell us what all the little bits of decadence were and offered us a small table. Of note, it's 6 euros per dessert cake if you eat in...4 euros if you take away. We wanted to have a drink as well, so opted to take the 2 euro surcharge. I went with the Nutella cake and JT opted for the lemon tiramisu. Let me tell you. That Nutella cake was so rich...so decadent...so CHOCOLATE-Y...I couldn't eat the whole thing. And it wasn't that big. That's unheard of for me. And the lemon tiramisu? Gone. Polished off. Done for. Down the gullet. Incredibly delicious. Definitely stop in for their desserts...so glad we did.

Came here for dessert, canoli, gelato and cappucino. Service is friendly! Outdoor seating a plus!

I should have known better, I'm disappointed in myself for being a sucker and grabbing a seat facing a tourist spot in such a popular area. Obviously the food was crap. Like, crappity crap crap. Like, I think I've eaten wrapping accidentally that tasted better. The only reason I'm giving them two stars is that they weren't outright hostile to us and didn't add any weird charges like "sitting at a clean table" or "not being spat on", but what does that say about my expectations?

pistachio/vanilla gelato in a cup and chocolate gelato in a cone

My friend and I went here for gelato. There is not a wide selection of flavors to choose from; after all, it is a restaurant and not strictly a gelateria. I was going to get the gelato that was sandwiched in a brioche, but was told that it was unavailable, so instead I got a small cone of chocolate gelato for 2.50€. I would have gotten two flavors instead of one but that would have cost 3.50€, which is definitely pricier than the other gelato places in Sorrento to which I have been. My gelato was pretty good, but my friend said that her pistachio flavor was way too sweet and that the vanilla could have been a lot better, as it apparently did not have much flavor at all to it. The portions were decent; my chocolate gelato was actually packed into the cone a fair amount, which I appreciate. Still, there are better places to get gelato in Sorrento.

Pistachio and hazelnut gelato on a waffle cone made into a puppy face
Michael B.

Delicious gelato! The only flavors I got here was the pistachio and the hazelnut. Two scoops on a cone for only €3.5. The scoops are big as well, so you definitely get your money's worth. I went to this place on my last two days in Sorrento. The server always made the gelato into a face of a puppy. I highly recommend this place and the two flavors I got.

Pistachio gelato. Delicious and great presentation!

Booked via the Fork for ease and while it may seem like a more tourist-y spot (in the sense that…read morethe leads are always inviting folks walking by in to view the menu)...Naima is LEGIT. We wanted seafood because when in Sorrento...why not opt for super fresh seafood right by the coast?! Our server recommended a really delicious local red that was super reasonably priced and we enjoyed with said red: For Primi -- *Gnocchi alla sorrentina (Sorrento-style Gnocchi): I mean...we kinda had to get a regional specialty right? Gnocchi here is potato based instead. It was SO delicious - still perfect texture. They also served this HOT HOT HOT with melty cheese. So delicious and a really generous portion!! *Spaghettoni alle vongole (Pasta with Clams): Another favorite for us in general so figured a really fresh version could be stellar and it didn't disappoint! This slightly edged out the gnocchi for me flavor-wise, but the gnocchi was dang good so it just goes to show how DELISH this was!!! For Secondi -- *Grigliata mista di pesce (mixed grilled fish - this was an incredible plate of such fresh seafood. There was various fish, a giant prawn, octopus alll grilled & seasoned to perfection! *Swordfish special! -- apparently it was swordfish season and it was a 'fresh catch' and I feel like you could tell! Really lovely and nicely seasoned. Portions were very generous & we were way too full for dessert at this point! So you could probably eat more "American" style here (Just 1 entree instead of our approach), but the menu here is pretty stellar!!!

I had been bit by a crab a number of times at Amalfi earlier in the day. I decided to return the favor and had the excellent crab with squid ink pasta. I will say that the crab was a lot of work, it was also a delicious crab. The squid ink pasta itself was perfectly al dente. Added a second course of a local fish with cherry tomatoes, also delicious. Family enjoyed their dinner as well.

Blink and you'd miss it from the street... you walk in (assuming it's a pizzeria) but nope - it's a…read more'fancy place' that you wished you dressed better for. Since this is a tourist town - all the guests kept it casual while the fleet of workers were well-dressed and constantly 'making the rounds' for refills, food, clearing empty plates, you name it. Favorite quote came from the younger twin: "the potato caught me off guard!" - when discussing his lamb special's side, a single compressed potato that floored him. (He would mention this damn potato the rest of our vacation to anyone that would listen!) One quibble: giving us really whack (dull) knives for two dishes that most definitely needed a sharp/serrated blade. (And of course this was the one time none of the staff entered our orbit to ask/complain for something a bit more effective than a darn dessert knife.) Regardless: a (most) memorable dinner. Pro-tip: keep the young one's eyes away from the series of 'donkey' statutes when entering/exiting the front of the ristorante. (Unless you're ready to have 'the talk' with them while on vacation!)

To start, we had burrata, bruschetta and mixed salad. All were good. The salad was fresh and crunchy (with lettuce, fennel, radicchio, carrot in a light vinaigrette). The sun-dried tomato bruschetta was delicious (with soft cheese, drizzled with honey). The burrata was also amazing (tomatoes tossed in police oil and salt, surrounding a fresh creamy burrata). We had pastas (gnocchi and ravioli fungi) and chicken. I had the ravioli, which was delicate and scrumptious. Everyone enjoyed their meals, though the chicken was very simple. Finally the service! We were greeted with warmth and the service right through was perfect. Thank you!

Every bite was AMAZING. The servers and staff that we came in contact with were wonderful and attentive. The place itself is nicely decorated, and has a very clean bathroom. I like how staff stays by the door to welcome people in, but they don't badger people on the sidewalk to come in like other places. We're thinking of going back even though we only have a night or two left in Sorrento, it was just that good!
