3.5 and rounded up. The ambiance was nice. Staff and food was ok…read more On a pleasant evening in April I arrived around 7:30pm without reservations and was seated right away for dinner. With about 50-60 seats, the restaurant was only about a third full with most customers seated towards the front entrance. The vibe is bold Mediterranean seaside, with vibrant nautical blue and solid Kelly green accents paired back to white walls, painted floor tiles, and dark wood exposed ceiling beams. Glass vases and other hanging wall decor tie into the same scheme. The inside was bright and clean. I was curious to try their cacio e pepe since I heard this dish originated from around these parts. Their version Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe al Profumo di Limone (spaghetti with cheese, pepper and lemon) €16 was decent, though unfortunately not the traditional recipe I expected to be made without cream/butter. It was a little creamy, not too saucy (as it should be), with fresh pepper and lemon which added a needed brightness. Not bad though a little rich to consume by itself for a meal. The bread that came with meal was a cold, though fresh. Staff was professional and cordial enough though a felt a bit all-business-no-pleasure. Overall dinner prices seemed pretty reasonable compared to other places, with a €3 coperto charge, though interestingly this was the only restaurant where the staff asked if I wanted to tip on top of the bill (I did). Bathrooms in decent shape. Other dishes looked pretty decent, so this would be a maybe return in my book.

Nothing special about the pizza in particular. Found it to be a bit doughy. Yes, I like the Neapolitan pizzas. We took the Cheese and tomatoes back to the hotel. It's is apparent that many other tourists dine here as well. Two tables were filled with American tourist ordering Hamburgers with fries. Not here to rave about the food at Bar Ercolano nor the service. You need to flag down wait staff for service as well as to get the check. It's about the ambiance here. It's all about people watching while enjoying that glass of wine with American music blasting in the background. One night we passed by Bar Ercolano and there was live musicians outside and people dancing in the street.

I wanted to be seated in the air conditioned dining area, but I was dining alone and they didn't have single seating inside, so I was seated in the outdoor area. Fortunately, it was cooler today than it's been, so I was comfortable enough. The octopus salad was good, but not quite as tasty and tender as I've had at restaurants in Portugal and Spain. They brought a whole bag of sliced bread to the table (about 6 slices) and there was olive oil and balsamic vinegar at the table. Cost was reasonable; 10 euros plus 2 as a "cover charge". The octopus salad came with tomatoes and Kalamata olives on a very small bed of arugula. It was the perfect amount for me as I wanted something light.

You can tell the guy who took our order is the owner and he showed a great deal of pride in his restaurant. I wanted to order an additional plate since my main course was only fish.. he said it would be too much and he didn't want to waste food. Most restaurants don't care as long as they sell you more. Every dish was soo flavorful. My daughter's dish was the two color pasta with Gorgonzola and honey and it was amazing. My fish was moist and flavorful. My husband's pesto was very good and so was my sons pasta. I tasted everyone's food lol. The salad was also amazing. We all loved what we ordered and that is very rare.
