I really appreciated the helpful host/hostess who was able to accommodate my request to change the time/number of people really easily. They have multiple private rooms for larger groups both indoor and outdoor which is super convenient. In addition, their food and drink menu was really excellent and had good variety of New American cuisine. We got a bunch of appetizers and mains to share and I really enjoyed the Shishito peppers, Brussel sprouts and the Cumin dusted shrimp although I couldn't really taste the sweetness of the rock shrimp when fried. I split the pan roasted cod and it was delicious. I also really enjoyed the truffle Mac and cheese. Overall great local restaurant, highly recommend! read more

This place always hits it out of the park- from the friendly staff and the amazing menu, I have yet to have a bad experience here. The bar staff do a great job with cocktails and the kitchen makes amazing food. We asked our concierge for a non-riverwalk spot that served good food and cocktails. A short Uber ride later, we pulled up to a white house with a neon sign. Inside was a cozy space with windows facing the front - it's not super large inside so we headed to the bar to grab seats. I went with a Mariachi Static - you can select your level of heat - hearing I wasn't from Texas I was advised to go with a 2 and that would be a 4 in my state - they were right! We started with the Griddled Green Onion Polenta Cake - I would have licked my plate. It was divine! My main was the Seared Salmon Tinga, perfectly seared and packed of flavor. This is my second review because the first time we came here, we sat outside, which is a different experience from sitting inside. This time we sat inside and it was great! It's a very local place that is centralized in the king Williams district. Our waiter was 15 mins late, so they gave us a free appetizer! I enjoyed my watermelon salad and the Loretta burger. Fantastic meal! I first saw this place a few years ago when we stayed at nearby Brackenridge House for a weekend (also highly recommend!), but Bar Loretta wasn't quite yet open (I think the sign said we were there like two weeks early for the actual open). So when we went back to SATX for a wedding, and again stayed at Brackenridge House, was hoping that BL would still be there. It's there and going strong. Managed to get a reservation for a Saturday night on the patio - lovely weather, great service. Food was really outstanding - between my salmon and the wife's lamb ragout, plus the rock shrimp appetizer and the Wiseman cocktail, I enjoyed every bite and felt the very reasonable tab at the end of the night was worth every penny and more. Great date spot. Great location (short walk to any of the bars or coffee shops in the area, or just walk around the neighborhood admiring the grand old homes of the King William District). We will make it a 'must go' every time we're in SATX - you should too! read more

Wonderful place! Very cozy and intimate with indoor and outdoor seating. The drink menu is extensive and well thought out with something for everyone and every price range. A group of us couldn't decide what we liked best so we ordered a bit of everything- 4 starters, 2 sides and 3 entrees, all to split. It was all delicious! Very thought out and well designed and cooked to perfection! I have to say the items that really made my tastebuds scream "wow" we're the scallops (I've never had any that perfectly cooked & seasoned), the Mac n cheese, and the apple mushroom bread pudding that came with the crispy brick chicken. I am not a bread pudding person, but the flavors and texture were perfect! Everything was excellent! Parking in the area is...well it's Southtown so it's pretty limited, but it's so worth it! For being such a new restaurant, they have nailed the entire dining experience! Called around 8:30 on Friday and got a 9:30 reservation. Arrived a little early, so we sat at the beautiful bar. Taylor made us great cocktails! The Tipperary was a perfectly balanced variation of a Manhattan with just a hint of sweetness (not too strong, but has a kick just how I like it!). The old fashioned was also wonderful. For dinner, we shared the polenta starter. Amazing! It was crispy and salty, and rounded out well with earthiness from the mushrooms and goat cheese. The balsamic drizzle added caramelized sweetness and made each bite a treat. I had the shrimp and grits for dinner. I really enjoyed the sauce with tortilla strips. The grits were served in a format similar to the polenta, like a flavorful hush puppy cake. The shrimp itself was perfectly fine, but I realized halfway through I didn't really want shrimp so I took it home! The leftovers got an egg added to it for brunch this morning. My husband's lamb was just incredible! It was served with risotto that had sausage and peaches, raisins, and a sour cherry demi-glacé. Our server, John, was warm and friendly throughout the service. He was hustling through the dining rooms mostly, but sat down with us for a second at the end when my husband said he nearly gnawed at the lamb bones, his meal was so good! John told us about tentative brunch and market plans at the premises. We're so excited to find Bar Loretta and can't wait to see its growth and impact on the community. read more

I read in The Current that Bar Loretta was opening up in the old Mad Hatter location so I came out to check out the latest offering in S. Town and I'm glad I did. Upon arrival, I was greeted and seated immediately and then approached by my fabulous server (Cassandra). Just having opened, I was amazed as she gave me a run down of the menu, was able to answer all my questions and then gave me her best recommendations from the menu. So, I decided to start with the Salman Al Pastor with a side of the crispy Brussel sprouts and a Big Red Sazerac to help occupy my time while waiting for the food. The Sazerac came out first and it was nicely chilled and the hint of Big Red added the aromatic that is in the drinks name. Nicely made. Next up, the Salmon Al Pastor and brussel sprouts. The dish smelled delicious and was fillet was served atop a tortilla bowl (totally unnecessary) with wilted cabbage and grilled onions. The fillet was tender, flaky and seasoned well and the side of pineapple crema added a dash of sweetness to the fish which helped balance the tartness of the crispy brussell sprouts. Great combination! Too help ease this great food down I also had a Bulleit Rye Old Fashion and Manhattan. They're is a great cocktail menu and the bar tenders are legit so have exploring. Overall, I really liked my first encounter with Bar Loretta and I look forward to coming back and trying more of the menu. P.S. This place was a gem in San Antonio. We had good drinks and great service and a lovely meal. We started with a few cocktails, and I wish I remember the names of them But they were both delicious. We started with the cheese plate, which was a nice sampling of fresh berries, great cheese, and bread. We also had the beet salad, which had some fresh citrus. Both starters were really great. We also had a steak entrée, as well as a fish special. Both entrées were just enough. We also added on the brussels sprouts, which were like a party in your mouth with great flavor. We had a very enjoyable meal here. The restaurant is very lively and borderline noisy. This may be offputting if you're looking for a quiet dining experience to talk. Service couldn't have been better. The server is very knowledgeable about the menu, answered all of our questions and guided us to the top menu choices. We were visiting family all the way from New Jersey so we were happy to stumble on the spot definitely different than most of the touristy places in San Antonio. Take the leap and go here. I ordered an Old Fashioned. What i got was NOT an OF. It's as if they put ice and Dbl Woodford Reserve in a cocktail shaker. Website says full bar. Is it ? Because there was no simple syrup in my OF. I got a glass with ice cubes and straight up Woodford Reserve. If you think Im being picky well; it's an OF and NOT a Corpse Reviver #2 or Vieux Carre. So either you didn't have any simple syrup and used packets of sugar and or the "full bar" doesn't carry maraschino cherries. Then maybe this place is either being mismanaged or the bartender is inept or clearly just doesn't give a fuck and management doesn't either. I can't say this any clearer, it was simple drink that was a shit drink. Helen Keller would have done a better job. Maybe offer selling tickets to the shit show of disaster drinks would be more appealing on your website ? Again; the bartender should be embarrassed. or not. But then again, you get what you pay for. Nine times out ten when I walk into a craft cocktail bar I've had some kind of derivative of Everything they have on their menu. That doesn't make me like the bar any more or any less. A good drink deserves praise when it's prepared because I've even had some of the classics messed up. But the Buccees Cocktail section was (excuse my language) fucking awesome. I think it ties together some things that everyone in Texas can find familiar, with some things that people look for in a craft cocktail. Mesh the two together and you're introducing a whole new clientele to things they may have never tried otherwise. A little daring. Fun. Simple. And does the trick. The restaurant was very accommodating for our group of 10. We made reservations prior and were seated right away. The area was secluded from other guest which was nice. However, the lightning was very dim, and kept going from darker to back to dim. Kind of wish it was a tad brighter for my old eyes. Service was on point we had a gentleman that was very attentive and provided recommendations for everything. With a group of 8 or more there is a 20% gratuity charge and I felt he even deserved more. Now for the food I was a little disappointed. In reading all the reviews I thought the food was going to be melt in your mouth goodness. Sadly not in the least bit was I impressed. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing as everyone who had a burger didn't have one complaint. However, everyone who ordered plates thought the food was subpar.
