Drinks are about $8 during HH and they were alright. The burger is $15 during HH - and it was a bit lacking with the buns being a bit too dry. Quality of the ingredients were good though - just the execution was probably poor. I'm not sure if I can justify a visit to this place, especially outside of HH. It's hard enough to justify coming during one with the many options around nearby. read more

Great experience. We did the bottomless + entree and it was everything we could ask for! We had quite a large party but the servers were very quick with our requests! Pretty decently priced and ambiance was nice. French toast had this delicious lemon (custard?) on the bottom, yum! read more

A great brunch spot for both small and large groups! We got really lucky going on a beautiful day and were able to sit outside under the cover that they provide. I imagine it is probably pretty chilly on a normal day. Service: Everyone was asked to show their Vaccination cards before entering. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable. She recommended the bottomless Pomegranate Mimosas and that was a fantastic idea. There were other groups but our waitress was never too far if we needed something. Seems like they are well prepared for the crowd that Sunday Brunch brings. Food and Drinks: The Chicken and Waffles dish was delicious! It is highly recommended and they almost ran out so we knew we had to order it before they ran out. The Donut Holes were also delicious. They came out hot and ready to eat. They were so good we ordered two of them. All of the food on the menu sounded like it would be delicious. Even the Burger sounded like it would be good too. Overall: A great brunch spot that I would definitely revisit again and again to try different items on the menu. read more

The service was atrocious. We were basically ignored the entire meal. We attempted to order a bottle of wine because we thought this would mitigate the bad service (wouldn't need to order another round after we finished our first glass); then our waitress forgot to put the order in. As an apology, she got us shots - but also made sure to get one for herself. You're rewarding yourself with a shot for poor service?! Most of the food was unremarkable - the appetizer tuna presentation was kind of funky (a dip? which I had never seen before). The cacio e pepe mac and cheese was fine, and the Vietnamese green beans...weren't Vietnamese at all. I will say that the rib eye was delicious! read more

really cozy bar in the Dupont Circle area that's perfect for grabbing drinks with friends in a sit down setting. i came here for their bottomless brunch, which is one of the best deals in dc. it's $37 for bottomless mimosas and other brunch drinks with an entree. we got mimosas and i loved the sparkling wine they gave us! they gave us an entire bottle at a time right on our table with orange juice, which was cool. to eat i got their wagyu burger and fries. honestly, for a steak house and for wagyu i did not love the burger. it was a bit dry and was only topped with cheese, lettuce, and a bit of truffle aioli (which was very delicious, very truffle-ly). i might recommend not getting the burger at brunch and sticking with the more breakfast-like food. the overall restaurant is a very cool vibe, though! it's a basement vibe and the outside patio is really nice, romantic and a nice spot for a date. our waitress was also lovely! read more

I stopped by at Bar Charley for the first time after making a reservation through Google/resy. It was a busy Saturday evening, so I was happy to have made the reservation before stopping by. The happy hour is available 7 days of the week and ends at 6:30pm, so we were able to take advantage of it. The cocktails were very refreshing and tasty, and they were also generous with the alcohol and I liked that. I had 2 orders of the daiquiri and it was good! I also placed an order of the Catalan fries which were a good amount of fries with seasoned sunny side up eggs. It started to get busier as the evening went by and hence noisier. Our waiter stopped by to say something to us, which I thought was in reference to the HH ending in 20 minutes, but my friend thought that the waiter had mentioned that a new party will be arriving in 20 minutes. Nonetheless, we decided to keep working on our food/drinks and asked for the bill some minutes after that. But then about 3 minutes after we received our bill and completed payment, another waiter stopped by and told us that we had to leave since the next party had arrived. I think that perhaps a *clear* 5-10 minutes warning would have been better for customers before expecting us to leave, especially on a hot summer day. Also, note that a 20% gratuity will be automatically added to your bill. My overall experience was okay and I would not mind stopping by again either on a less busy day/time and also after making a reservation. read more

Updated review: we went back to dine here, first time since COVID restrictions. They're only doing indoor seating but it is ample, there's hand sanitizer on every table, paper menus & QR code menu too. The staff was fine and portions just slightly smaller this time for the same price (you can see my picture from first visit versus now). With the chicken and waffles you now get 3/4 instead of a whole pancake and less chicken too. It is however, absolutely delicious! Honestly highly recommend that dish regardless. Bathroom was clean, music inside was good (whoever's playlist that was, I approve lol). I would probably get carry out next time because the service itself was a bit slow, no big deal though. Very good meal! read more

I used to come to Bar Charley quite a bit pre-2020 for the best brunch deal in town- $25 for a brunch entree and bottomless. A lot has changed since then, including the price. It's now $41 plus a mandatory 20% service charge (regardless of party size), so you're starting at almost $50. Still not terrible for what it is, but I definitely wouldn't call it a deal anymore. I've been to brunch here twice in the last few months, and it left a lot to be desired. The food isn't bad, but there also aren't any standouts. The chicken and "beignets" should probably have a different name- the beignets are three tiny pieces of dough that are not nearly big enough to go with the chicken thighs you get. You do get to choose from different flavors of mimosas (and other drink options), which is nice, and if you're sharing the mimosas with your table they will leave a carafe for you. But we also had service issues both times we went- the servers were not attentive at all, and both times it took forever to get our first round of drinks, which becomes more of a problem because the hour and a half limit you get for bottomless brunch is STRICTLY enforced. When we went this weekend, it took over 20 minutes to get our first round. Then, at the end of our meal, the server informed us that the next reservation was there and we would need to leave immediately. No warning at all that our time was almost up. Both times, we were out on the patio, so I'd recommend maybe trying to sit inside to see if there is a different experience. read more

I have mixed feelings about the policies in place at Bar Charley concerning brunch bottomless mimosas but that should not detract from the high quality food. If you are on the lookout for a spot with limitless mimosas and great grub then bar charley is the place for you. I ordered the chicken and waffles. They did not disappoint. The chicken carried a perfect crispness to juicy ratio and offered a delightful flavor blast with the syrup. When combined with the fluffy buttery waffle it rounds out to a strong menu choice. As mentioned we got the mimosas. These were dangerous as you can easily keep knocking them back. The value of these is undeniable. I mentioned I disagreed about the policy in place. To do bottomless mimosas, everyone at the table has to order it. This was an issue as we had someone who wasn't drinking but being a DD. You would think that they would make an exception so as to not propagate driving under the influence but you would be wrong. If he also didn't order bottomless mimosas, then nobody could. He asked if he could do bottomless coffee which they said was fine but he would still have to pay the full mimosa price. I understand restaurants don't want a situation where someone doesn't order but sneaks bottomless mimosas from others but there should be some alternative option for those that are the DD. My recommendation is to Uber here so you don't deal with this hassle. read more

What an awesome spot to visit if you are vegan or vegetarian! Even if you are a meat-eater, you will find something that satisfies your cravings at Chaia tacos! You can't go wrong with the delicious selection of tacos and foods-- healthy and flavorful fast food that doesn't feel like fast food.  Pros: - Quality and Selection: Many different types of vegetarian tacos, with ingredients like Mushroom, potato, and asparagus. All seasoned with delicious sauces and spices! I really very much enjoyed the potato and kale taco. All tacos are clearly labeled ad vegan or vegetarian, as well. I grabbed a hibiscus tea, as well, which was really delicious and paired well with my tacos.  - Price: The price of the tacos is super reasonable. You can get a trio of tacos for $3 each, which is definitely a filling portion size for the average person. Individual tacos are $4.25 each. I also grabbed a tea for a few dollars.  - Cute atmosphere and convenient to outdoor seating: Such a cute design inside-- modern and sleek with pops of color that remind you of the healthy and natural origins of the food that you are eating. There are some small tables to sit at inside the restaurant. Behind the restaurant, there is a seating area with a view of the C&O canal  You can easily grab your food to go and eat it at one of the tables there.  Friendly service: Service is super speedy and efficient.  - Plenty of space: There is plenty of space here, between the inside areas, and the back (outdoor) tented seating. I never have felt super claustrophobic here, despite Bar Charley being a pretty busy location! - Reasonable prices: Prices are pretty reasonable given the vibe, selection and quality that you get here. You can grab a pretty fancy and decently sized cocktail for $12ish.  - Convenient location: The location of Bar Charley is super convenient to Adams Morgan and U Street-- it is probably easiest to reach on foot, just due to limited parking in the area. Definitely a convenient spot to stop in after work, or to meet up with folks you have not seen in a while.  Cons:  No cons to speak of! Always a great time here, and no complaints! I highly recommend this spot. read more

The food was a solid "fine." But the waitress was ridiculously rude. Attitude from the get go. While pouring our champagne, she spilled it (nbd! It happens) but just said "oh shit" with no effort to clean it up or get us extra napkins for the spill. Our fries came burnt and we nicely asked for another set and she said "that's how they're cooked." Maybe she was having a bad day, but it dampened the experience and I probably wouldn't come back. Though, the $35 bottomless brunch (includes an entree) is a great deal so maybe lol. read more

Bar Charley Ratings: 4.3/5 Food: 4.5/5 - First time here trying out their Happy Hour menu with friends and my boyfriend. I purposely find a place that can accommodate 8 people with a nice vibe, and fortunately Bar Charley checks all the boxes. A hidden gem for HH in DC for sure. See the descriptions below for some of the items we ordered during HH. - Charley Burger [GET]: This burger was better than I expected. It is a juicy and moist wagyu burger with melted cheddar cheese, truffle aioli, and caramelized onion. The truffle aioli was strong, yet not too overpowering. Caramelized onion is perfectly cooked, and added a hint of sweetness to the burger. The side of fries were on the thicker side, but very crispy. Solid entree and a steal during HH. - Korean BBQ Wings [GET]: The BBQ wings are crispy on the outer layer and super tender on the inside and garnished with some cilantro. The Korean BBQ sauce was good, a bit sweet and tangy smothered evenly all over the wings. The Sriracha aioli and peanuts added a nice change of flavor and kick. Also, the pickled daikon provided on the side is a great pallet cleanser. - Moscow Mule [GET]: Tasty, refreshing, and a spicy cocktail. I approved and was quite impressive with the quality of the drink. There's a decent amount of vodka in it, mixed with ginger-lemongrass syrup with lime and soda, definitely a classic during HH. Ambiance: 4.25/5 - Bar Charley is a place that can easily be missed if you are walking by it. It is such a fun place to catch up with friends during HH. It got a tiki bar vibe, but mostly casual and classy feel. Interior is dark, dimly-lit with candles, fancy furnitures, and good music. There's an outdoor patio too and plenty of street parking available. Price: 4.5/5 - Bar Charley HH prices were amazing. We got two moscow mules for $7.95 each, the Korean BBQ Wings for $12, and my boyfriend got the Charley Burger for $15. The total was around $50 after taxes for the two of us. There was a 20% gratuity charge automatically. Service: 4/5 - Made a reservation during HH for 8 people, and we got seated immediately. The staffs were friendly and nice. They were attentive and were able to get our drinks and food out quickly and correctly. They were accommodating and able to split our bills. BLUF: Bar Charley is known for its HH deals with great menu options on their drinks and food at amazing prices. This place got lots of young professionals, so lots of energy and good vibes, definitely recommend you visiting if you're in DC. The Charley Burger is a MUST if you are a big fan of truffle aioli. read more

Fun bar with good drinks. We visited Bar Charley on a Saturday night. Although the inside was almost full, there was plenty of seating outside. The outside area has a wall of fake green plants and is encircled in bamboo walls. Plants dangle from pots positioned well above the tables, and there is no music audible from outside. I ordered the Highland Ave first and a Sazerac later. Both drinks were tasty. We split the goat cheese ravioli as a snack, but it was disappointing because it was too salty. Overall, I would recommend Bar Charley for the drinks but not necessarily for the food. read more

I haven't been to Bar Charley in quite a while. Last time I stopped in because of the heavy rain. The bar was nice and drinks pretty good (best that I can remember...wink wink). I went Saturday afternoon, reservation for 5;30. I almost didn't make it. Metro is SLOW as always. I sat outside on the patio. I don't think they have enough servers as it took a while to get a drink. Water (room temperature) came quick as the waitress was right there. They need to look into an ice machine. Cold water would have been a bit better as it was a humid hot day. I decided on an old fashioned. I was thinking steak...or a burger. My drink comes and it's tasty, good quality. I decide on the charley burger. I look at email on my phone while i wait for the food. The drink is gone and I order another. The food arrives. The fries are crispy and tasty, burger cooked as I ordered it. This place is good for a date, night out with the fellas or simply family evening. read more

So I have been to Bar charley once before on a random day walking around DC and noticing that they had a Saturday happy hour. I had a great experience. That was pre Covid. Fast forward to my more recent experience. The ambiance at bar Charlie is and has always been very cute, chic, and intimate. We dined on the enclosed patio. There was cute outdoor dim lighting and fans/heaters depending on the time of year. Food: I had the salmon which was in some sort of Spicy soy/Thai sauce, the consistency was more a a broth. The salmon came ove a veggie medley. Would recommend. The skin was left on the salmon and crisped, it was a great texture and flavor. My dining partner ordered the crab cake over risotto, it was also really flavorful and well prepared dish. Apps: we ordered the Thai wings the portion is only five, I requested my wings fried hard, so I would say for the price and portion, skip it. Brussels- of you follow my reviews you know that Brussels are my thing, the aioli was super tasty we cleared the plate! Drinks: if you're going to bar Charlie GO TO DRINK. That is what they have mastered. We had a South African named drink, I had a Spivey marg, we switched out drinks XD a few times. Their cocktail selection is LEGIT. Splurge. Service: Bar Charlie was not impressive on the service tip. Serving through Covid times I imagine is not ideal, so grace is given and considered. It costs nothing to be attentive and mildly friendly: and that is really all that I ask. The server was cordial. It was my dining partner's birthday. When we order wings I asked for all flats, he informed me they came mixed I said ok cool, not my preference but I won't die. The wings came out all drums lol. He never came back to check so I found him and just asked if they could mix a few flats in there, he retrieved the wings and brought back all flats, I was grateful. At the end of dinner I wanted to order dessert, naturally, sweets and birthday celebrations go hand in hand. It took him a while to come back over, when I requested dessert for the bday boy, he said ahh our kitchen is closed. It had been closed for maybe 3 minutes. Dessert is one of those things that can be done if your willing to try, but he gave it minimum effort which you know, ok. I think it just would have been helpful to have been given a courtesy heads up "the kitchen will be closing soon should you like anything else" that didn't happen but we will say it's just an off day. I still think Bar Charly is worth a try! read more

Was able to catch one of the warmer days and had a delightful brunch on the back patio! I RSVP'd for 12:45 but NY Ave traffic set my arrival time back to 1:00. I let them know ahead of time and thankfully they appreciated the heads up and pushed the start time back. Once I arrived I showed my ID etc. and was immediately seated. The outdoor area is nice! And so are the brunch options -- I decided to get the short rib omelet and didn't regret it. There was plenty of rib and the egg was fluffy! There are two options for mimosas and I'm so glad I got some clarity. So you know how flavored mimosas tend to use syrup in most cases? The flavors I could get were either pineapple or pomegranate, or otherwise just stay with the standard orange mimosa. It turns out the pineapple one uses the Dole pineapple juice (better than syrup), but the pomegranate one uses... POM JUICE!!! That was a game changer and my friends and I ended up just drinking that the entire time. Between that and the good food, everyone was happy. And we were checked on regularly! I'm glad I finally got to check it out after hearing so much about it. It's definitely a great spot for brunch. Oh, they have some bomb cinnamon donut holes btw :emoji eye: read more

Easy to miss, but hard to forget. This unsuspecting bar was fantastic! I highly recommend making reservations though. Especially on Monday when it's all day happy hour. Our waitress (Emily) was a little condescending when we asked her to explain the bill. Gratuity is already added in the bill which we didn't know until we got the highlighted gratuity section of the bill. Which isn't a problem, but I didn't know about it before hand. She proceeded to ask if that wasn't what we were used to which is where I had the problem. I could already tell that she was a little off when we were ordering. I had the biscuits and gravy which was good and the bottomless mimosas. The has browns tasted like they were over cooked and fried in old oil. Evidently there's a two hour maximum. I feel as if we had a different waiter with a better attitude it would have gotten three stars from me. read more

Came here for brunch and thought the food was very good! The burger had a flavorful special sauce on top and came with crispy French fries. I also ordered the pineapple mimosa. As other reviews mentioned, they don't allow you to order bottomless unless the entire table orders it. I get that they don't want people who aren't paying to sneak drinks from the bottomless carafe, but maybe instead they should have waiters fill up the glasses of those who do want to order bottomless. They require masks anytime a waiter comes over, even if you're mid-eating, so make sure your mask is hanging from your ear or on a mask chain at all times. Other restaurants I've been to since the pandemic do not require masks once you're seated, so just something to be aware of if you're planning on eating here. They only have outdoor seating at this time and online it says they have heat lamps. However, you have to ask them to turn the heat lamps on. Ours wasn't working, and they said the tank for it probably wouldn't arrive for hours. I feel like if you're only offering outdoor seating you should ensure the heat lamps are working. They have a really broad menu, I had a hard time deciding on what to order! The burger was definitely delicious but next time I'll try the biscuits and gravy or the pancakes. The steak and eggs also looked amazing. read more

We did not have reservations as we are new to the area, but they had room to accommodate us and we're very clear about the time limit. We did the bottomless brunch and the waitress was pretty responsive, if a little slow at first getting our first round of drinks in. The donut holes were delicious! Brunch burger was amazing, seasoned so well. Biscuits and gravy were also very delicious. The steak in the steak and eggs was severely over cooked (ordered medium received well done) but our waitress never checked in to see how the food was. I think we would go back but have many other places to try first. read more

Super confused by this spot. Let me set up the environment: got seated in the outside portion which was kinda close quarters. The sun was coming over our table and there was no shade - it got hot. The drinks: we were there for brunch but they didn't have a working coffee machine for my friend who didn't want to drink and they ran out of some other liquor... The food: not a lot of variety, not sure of what they were going for and they didn't have many options for substitutions for my vegetarian friend. Surprisingly, the fried rice was actually pretty good - I loved the crunchy rice and the flavor of the bacon and corn combo. Overall, it was alright for being all you can drink. read more

I was very disappointed with our experience here. Sat at a small table, while I understand there were 12 of us, the tables were very short, and the long rickety benches didn't offer any back support or comfort. For over $37 minimal a person, for a small piece of quiche, a few pieces of lettuce, and the divided, tip taxes, and fees... we were overall shocked by the lack of quality in service, food and portions. The beignets were totally flavorless. my quiche crust was totally dry, and frankly hard to eat. They say, bottomless brunch, (which we didn't even select) but they don't advertise, they only have one single beer on tap that is bottomless. (and our waiter couldn't even tell us what beer that was) Our friend is vegan, and despite calling a head and being told, that would be options, there were no vegan options. When our waiter and host were asked, we were simply told they were no other options except the bland topless french fries. After an argument with the waiter about how every single thing on the menu included egg, so there were no options., she said there is no way she could be aware of all the items on the menu, but they were only 10 items.... Our water jug had floating bits. , we barely had service, and were very upset by the quality and quantity of food for the price. If you would spend more than $20 auto burger that is smaller than the palm of your hand this is the place to go. read more

Went to bottomless with a group of 12. Totally understand how it could take a bit to get started, but they came out 30 mins after our time started and gave us one bottle of champagne to split between 12 people. So only half of us could drink. We asked for another bottle immediately, and it took another 10 minutes for it to come out. We booked a 2pm slot, but they never told us the bar closed at 3:30 until 3:31, when they told us we couldn't get any more drinks. We had several drinks pending at this point, and we had to speak to the manager to get them. Throughout the afternoon they continuously brought out 1 bottle of champagne at a time for a group of 12 people, so clearly you'll be able to get a better deal elsewhere read more

The food is nothing above average here but it's great place if you're looking for bottomless brunch and/or a nice patio. They have excellent service for the bottomless mimosas and we got our fair share in the hour and a half time period. Price is very reasonable. Bar Charley has a nice set up around back with outdoor seating for COVID. All of the tables are well distanced from one another and the servers are great. Came for restaurant week and was pleased to discover the bar was still doing happy hour. The crushes are a good deal and are made with fresh juice, however they aren't necessarily the tastiest drinks and are a little weak. To eat I corn jalapeno fritters to start which comes with a honey aioli sauce and are very tasty. For the main I had steak frites which came with chimichurri and a raisin steak sauce. Bar Charley is known for their steaks but the steak was surprisingly quite bland. Their more expensive cuts might be better but overall my dish was just okay. For dessert they offered chocolate cake that came with a chocolate mouse and whipped mascarpone -- it was very tasty but quite rich. I would come back for happy hour drinks and appetizers but would hesitate coming back for a full meal. read more

I called during a snowy slow day in DC to see if there was a wait time. They let me know that because they are always booked they are reservation only but were able to squeeze me in since I was a party of two on my way to the restaurant and I really appreciate that so I gave them a 3! BUT I will say once my friend and I got to the establishment It was a very awkward and strange energy at the host-stand. We asked if we could move down a table since we were seated very close to a large party and we were bluntly told no with an eye roll, and the server walked away, Ming you, both of our parties were the ONLY ones on the patio for the entirety of our meal. It wouldn't have inconvenienced ANYONE to have a down a table. After that we felt uncomfortable. The food was okay and the drinks were fine, but the service definitely could have been better.
