Looking forward to coming back and trying more, but so far I've got a good impression of this place. I've always been a sneaky pickle fan so I'm delighted to see their gorgeous new establishment and new menu items. There's a lot more room to spread out here! My cocktail and app (fries) were decent. The squid ink pasta was delicious. It was my first time having squid ink, so I was a bit apprehensive. The flavor was actually quite mild and subtle and I really enjoyed its flavor and texture. The pasta had the best texture of any pasta I've ever had... it was chewy? Stretchy? Doughy? And very fresh. If you like al dente pasta, this is the pasta for you. The shrimp on top were incredibly sweet and fresh tasting. The chocolate souffle at the end was awesome and had some kind of herby citrusy flavor... very cool.

    Martini- with a garnish adventure!

Wowwweee! I came to Bar Brine with a friend to try their martini, which we heard was special. It is special, made so by the "garnish adventure" you receive-- a cup of various garnish options such as lemon twist, lime, cocktail onion, olive, celery, and dill on ice. I choose all of the garnish because why not! The martini itself was of the gin variety, which I usually stay away from but I honestly couldn't taste any gin, it was so smooth. We sat at the bar while the place was nearly empty (early on a Sunday evening), and got great attention and reccomendations from the bartender. The two small plates we shared were incredible. Playful, creative, delicious- which seems to be the vibe of everything on the menu. I cannot wait to return, which will be soon.

Sneaky Pickle during the day....Bar Brine at night. Our server put it best: at night, the restaurant switches from friendly neighborhood eatery to something with a "more grown and sexy vibe." candles, interesting cocktails, and a price tag to match. The menu has several meat AND vegan or vegetarian options, so the whole squad can eat here if you choose. We came for a friend's birthday. I ordered the gnocchi which was perfectly portioned to save room for dessert, and was delicious. Also, I ordered a drink I remembered having off the sneaky pickle menu: a mint and ginger lemonade with gin. I was really pleased that they accommodated that request! For desert our table split basically one of everything on the menu. You almost can't go wrong here: everything is delicious...with the exception of the tahini blondie, which was tragically quite dry. Everything else was exceptional: the yuzu sorbet and the flourless chocolate torte were standout favorites of the meal. Price is unfortunately a barrier that will prevent me from being here frequently, but I look forward to the next special occasion that brings me back for more!

Back then I was all about the OG dive bars of New Orleans and let's say while I'll always have a soft spot for these venerable institutions, my tastes are a little different. Like, now I rarely drink hard alcohol and I cannot fathom drinking cheap wine. So I was glad to see they have a decent rose and the inside is as charming as it ever was, but there's pretty sidewalk seating with flowers. And the drink prices are still shockingly reasonable! Love love love it.

I explained the situation to the bartender and asked if I could leave my ID and card with them while I quickly went home a few blocks away to get my charger. They agreed, so I left and came right back. When I returned, there was an older Black man in the bar who I hadn't seen before. He appeared to be homeless or struggling with substance use. Because we were both Black, staff seemed to assume we were together, which felt odd. He asked me to buy him a beer, and I agreed, just trying to be kind because I understand how difficult things can be. While I was sitting there trying to charge my phone so I could access my payment, a different bartender--a blonde woman--suddenly started yelling at me to leave, also directing the same hostility toward the man. I kept trying to explain that I just needed a few minutes to charge my phone so I could pay my tab, but she continued to berate me and told me to get out. Because of that, I wasn't able to settle my bill as I had intended. I wouldn't return to that bar again, even though it's close to my home. I'm not from here, but the experience felt deeply uncomfortable and, honestly, racially charged.

So by the time we came it was past our reservations. Also, we waited a long time maybe around an hour in the lounge area just ordering drinks where I felt we could have just eaten because after our table was ready they said we could sit there when we were already sitting. They did have a good happy hour menu. However, blueberry lemon drop was very sweet, and the lemon drop. I felt that the drinks were not good but way on the sweeter side and not enough alcohol. For my food, I ordered the happy hour hot sausage taco and salmon. I felt that it could have been better. The tacos weren't all that great or cooked to profession like I thought they would be. I guess since I order just tacos it's really hard to say about the other food options which I heard is really good. So if I do come back to New Orleans and I come back here I will try I entrée instead. Overall, my experience this time was a 3/5. Also, it wasn't really modern and I felt that the bar was very small and tight and I didn't like the seating outside. I feel like it's more of a place to come hang out and just grab a drink, and enjoy happy hour if you do come. I highly recommend making reservations. -Marshay D.

Thirteen years calls for an update, no?…read more Sometimes I forget that this cocktail paradise lies on the very edge of the French Quarter. Admittedly, I have other regular stops these days, not for a lack of love or anything, these things happen. But Bar Tonique is a forever favorite, a worthwhile stop before a concert at the Saenger. The best place to stop, along with the Black Penny, on Rampart if you want a good cocktail. We stopped in on a hot Sunday late afternoon. What a refuge! The bar had plenty of seats, and the people in there were a nice mix of locals and cool tourists that don't want to spend their drinking day on Bourbon Street. Drinks are so fairly priced. In a time when cocktails are upwards of 20 bucks even in NOLA, it's nice to see theirs cost considerably less and they have a solid HH with $8 cocktails (rotating specials). Not BS beer and a shot or well drinks, but actual expertly-mixed drinks. And frozen Ramos Gin Fizzes if that's your thing (not mine but I get it).

At first glance, the place may look like a dive, but it has a great neighborhood bar vibe, excellent cocktails, and very affordable prices. On both days we visited, the place was packed, yet the crowds never affected the service. The bartenders were incredibly efficient, turning out drink after drink without missing a beat. Everything we tried was spot on. They clearly know what they're doing, and the prices make it even better. it's truly a steal
