I really enjoy this place and ate here again last night. I think it has a somewhat neutral/negative reputation from things that happened in the past but I definitely recommend you give it a try. -There's a great outdoor seating space that's perfect for lunch to late night. -There's a drive-thru for easy pre-order and pick up and a $4 drive-thru special (chicken and veggie gyro with fries). -The food is consistently fresh and savory. Serving sizes are large. -Top menu picks: greek salad, fries, cottage fries, spinach pie, tzaiki (if you love tzaiki sauce, this place has the freshest/most delicious in Berks County. Buy it by the pound - $3.99/lb). Be sure to ask for a loyalty/punch card - you'll want to come back.

I think the BBQ Super Special is the best deal on the menu.

My girlfriend and I went to the Bar-B-Q Pit two Saturdays ago. It was the first time that I've been in years (and she had never been there.) I've only ever had what I consider to be the best deal on the menus: the all-you-can eat "Super Special" BBQ 1/4 chicken for $9.99. It comes with a single 16 oz. domestic draft beer (including a bunch of "Lite" beers and Yuengling Lager), all the soda you want and 2 sides. And you can change your side choices with each reorder. My girfriend had the same thing but she went with the "BBQ Bonanza" (basically the same thing that I outlined above, with the addition of country-style ribs. Sides include coleslaw, applesauce, pasta salad, rice pilaf, baked beans, corn (not on the cob), garlic mashed potatoes (with brown gravy if you'd like), baked potato or fries. I'm sure that all of the sides are from a can or frozen (like the fries), but it's hard to argue with the price. It's not fancy, but their patio is nice for eating outside in the summertime. I got two 1/4 chickens (thigh & drumstick) with my initial order. Reorders were single 1/4 chicken with my sides. My girlfriend was served a single 1/4 chicken with two ribs and her sides initially. When you consider that a 1/2 chicken with two sides is $7.99 and it doesn't include the beer or soda (plus it's only two sides and that's it), it's easy to see the value of the all-you-can eat. My girlfriend said that she'd like to go back, but she would just get the $9.99 Super Special like I did... She thought the ribs were overcooked and dried out (though we were there at 8 pm.)

A healthy children's meal. Bbq chicken and mashed potatoes.

Bar-B-Q Pit is a staple in my family. We frequent here often for several reasons. First it's a very welcoming atmosphere. This place is perfect for a family dinner with children or a date night with your spouse. The food is very affordable. My 7 year old daughter loves the bbq chicken and mashed potatoes and it's only $3.29 I've never saw such a deal. They also have a freezer chest filled with ice cream the kids really love that. I don't want to forget that the beer prices are exceptionally low and the staff is always attentive and friendly. I recommend you give this place a try.

Fantastic service & great food. Perfect for date night or just grabbing a drink. The outdoor seating and bar area makes it convenient for both smokers and non-smokers a like. Great selection of spirits, which is a must for people like me who have a tendency to drink top shelf alcohol that is found off the beaten path.

Love all of the food here! My favorite is the Greek salad. I wanted to take a picture before I dug in but I was so hungry for my salad-I forgot, but I remembered when I was at the end because the best part of my salad is the stuffed grape leave! Yummy yummy salad !!!

It was good for the price $10

I'll never forget watching the continuation of game 5 of the 2008 World Series here when this was…read moreknown as Santino's. I mean I guess it wasn't that long ago, but it feels like a lifetime has passed in between. The bar that night was full of familiar faces. Groups of friends from both Wilson and Wyomissing neighborhoods had been unified with a common aspiration. After nearly two full days of agonizing rain delays, we were all about to witness the Phils bring the city of Philadelphia its first championship in 25 years (since 1983, before so many of us there that night were even born). This isn't Santino's of course, but it's impossible to separate those memories, which is probably the case for many of the folks still coming here who can remember fondly the mingling with family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. I'm glad this remained a restaurant and didn't turn into another spa or something. It's a bit harder to go to a spa and think hey I used to drink Jaegerbombs right over there by the koi pond and speaker playing soothing rainforest sounds. You can tell just by the sequence of naming conventions (from "Santino's" to "Tino's" to finally "State Hill Craft Cocktails & Kitchen") the kind of vibe they're going for here. The "Tino's" era, though brief, proved that you could keep the neighborhood charm and just slightly ratchet up the presentation, especially in the food and bar departments. Over time the menu has shifted from fine-casual Italian to more upscale comfort food, with wagyu meatloaf, lobster mac & cheese, and the always elegant, always dashing meatloaf patty melt. State Hill Craft Cocktails & Kitchen or whatever iteration of dining establishment will be there 15, 20 years from now (Luxe Carwash expansion perhaps) will bring together members of the community that wouldn't ever otherwise cross paths. New friendships will form, and old ones will strengthen. The atmosphere was electric that night in Santino's nearly 20 years ago. Everyone was elated, even people who didn't watch sports were happy because they could see other people were happy. For one night we could push everything else aside, the weight of responsibility and care lifted from our backs. A reminder that joy could be had, and our existences, though flawed, remained full of promise with even better days ahead. This is probably the least helpful review you've ever read LOL

The calamari was fine shavings of calamari coated with fried breading and a strange heavily Parmesan cheese sauce. The gnocchi was eh.... The whipped feta did not add anything great to it. Someone at our table asked for bread and they told us after looking at him in a very confused way... responded with, " sure we can get you bread, focaccia bread, but it may take 20 minutes." The main thing is the water took 10 minutes to get to the table and our drinks took a half an hour after the water came. One appetizer came out 20 minutes after that and then another 25 minutes after that the dinners came out. All in all... We didn't get any food for over an hour and 15 minutes. The wait staff and manager had no idea how slow everything was and we were the only table that ordered. Everyone other table was eating already. The ambience is OK... It's not great and it was so cold. It was uncomfortable. We sat in the back garden room. The entire restaurant was too cold.

It was moderately busy when we entered, and was getting rather crowded by the time we left an hour later. I ordered one of their specials -- a breakfast burrito with eggs, potatoes, fresh tomato, green peppers, onions, and cheese, then wrapped in bacon and deep fried. The crispy burrito and bacon complemented the fillings nicely, and it was served with a crema sauce on the side. My dining partner got a strawberry cheesecake crepe, which had a generous amount of fresh strawberries and filling, and a pile of whipped cream on top. It too was delicious. The portions for both were perfect -- generous but not excessive. The coffee was good as well, which I can't say about a lot of places anymore. It was very clean and new inside, and the decoration was very nice. Modern and elegant, but with enough natural oak accents, basket-shaded lights, and plants to really brighten the space. The service was also excellent. They were fully staffed with many attentive employees available, and the service was on point. The food came out fast and hot. If I had one complaint, it might be that the A/C was a little strong. It's maybe a little pricey for breakfast compared to diner fare (almost every entrée was $10-15), but the value is 100% there. Excellent food, nice atmosphere, and great service. Definitely a stand-out in the area for breakfast/brunch/lunch, and I will definitely be back.

My husband and I assessed Austin's differently. He ordered prime rib which he said was nothing short of perfect. Cooked medium rare as requested, tender, juicy -- he savored every bite. I scanned the menu. Nothing jumped out at me. (I generally don't gravitate to steakhouse-type restaurants.) I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs. My point of comparison is Longhorn's which offers more of a bang-for-a-buck, and in my opinion better tasting ribs. Not to say that Austin's aren't good. They are. Based on the popularity of Austin's, it's clear management knows what they're doing. But I think a small salad and baked potato should be available with the price of the entree -- not worth the extra $7 I was going to be charged. The salad is listed as 'field greens,' -- which it's not -- but reading the menu you'll see they mean iceberg and romaine. The salad was good, enhanced by their garlic ranch dressing. We washed down our meals with well-priced drinks: merlot ($8.90) and Blue Moon ($6.90), then splurged on dessert. Austin's flourless double chocolate brownie a la mode is very rich. One order for two adults is plenty. Austin's is aptly described as a family restaurant. A lot of kids. A lot of noise. Service is friendly and on-the-ball. While not my kind of restaurant, if prime rib is your thing -- this could be the place!
