The drinks itself were good however I pictured our drinks to be presented differently. It literally came in a small glass. The drinks were on the pricier side for such a small glass. I was super excited to try this restaurant as my parents are friends with the owner and have always spoken very highly of it. When Bar Agricole reopened I snagged a res for dinner - we initially wanted to go only for drinks, but let me say you really need to experience dinner here. My feelings about the restaurant started off poorly. When we arrived the way the starkness of the restaurant coupled by the way the host engaged with us made us feel a bit off. We were seated at the end of a very long table and no one came to take our drink order or chat to us. We felt weird. My boyfriend joked it was like we were guests in the movie the Menu. Things took a turn for the better when our very lovely waiter, Eric, explained the cocktails to us and chatted us through the menu. We ended up getting the bread with a squash ricotta (this portion was quite small), the cheese (mini portion, but my all time favorite cheese Neal's Yard), a side chicory salad, the burger + potatoes. Everything was incredibly flavorful - simple yet gave way to truly letting the food shine. We will definitely be back. It's an experience worth checking out. read more

We were big fans of the original Bar Agricole, you know the one that made great tasting food and cocktails and didn't give you the feeling that you were being robbed blind. Yeah, that one, we loved it. We went there from Brunch, for happy hour when platters with oysters overflowed their tray and small tasty sausages swam on a large plate. But this, this new incarnation, this isn't even the ghost of its previous self--no--this was just bad. The menu focuses on simple, stripped down dishes that feature one ingredient. In the case of their cocktails you find lots of aged Armangacs used to jack up the price 2x of what you'd pay for that drink. Are the drinks good? Hmmmm... one was good, the other was stripped down so far that I could hardly say it was mixed at all. The service... that left quite a bit to be desired. We were seated, asked if we wanted cocktails, we had to ask for a description of the menu and portion sizes, we were not offered waters, we had to ask for those too. Nor were we told that the menu in the bar room, a more casual one that included a burger, was available in the dinning room. We found this out later when we asked and the answer was, oh do you want more food? No, we just would've liked to know what our options were. The water was refilled just before we asked for the bill. Now let's talk about the food because let's face it, that's what we're ultimately there for. It was bad. I mean not just a little bad, it was pedestrian at best, overpriced beyond comprehension and simply uninteresting. The large format salad was nothing more than a lemon and olive oil dressing, a single dimension affair with shaved cheese that didn't make sense at 25 bucks a plate. The bread, it's 11, four slices of bread for 11 and a dollop of butter. Was it chakra re-arranging? No, was it good, sure, but at 11, it soured on the palette a bit. The toppings for the bread... here's my favorite part... one was a tinned fish for 12 or 13... in my mind tinned fished alludes to some kind of preparation or something interesting being done with a smoked, oil packed tin fish. No, what we received was a smoked, oil packed tin of sardines on a plate. At that point I knew that this would be a failed outing. I was reminded of David Chang who caught flack for calling out California cuisine a la Alice Waters as just serving figs on a plate, well David, sardines in a tin on a plate--I share your outrage. There were pickled carrots, yep, just a plate of roll cut pickled carrots that weren't pickled for that long. Another plate arrived of a pork loin in what seemed like a tehina sauce with sungold tomatoes. The only real character either of us could discern was salt, an over-abundance of it rendering the rest of the dish virtually inert. The final dish was a cod prepared in a Brazillian fashion with some yucca flour. Our server described the accompanying rice dish like a sizzling rice that you'd get in Chinese restaurant--how he managed to come up with that description is beyond me. It was a paltry bowl of over steamed rice. In my mind the limited amount of options and supposed large formats of the entrees were meant to be shared family style. The main dish, at 49 a pop (so as not to give you a heart attack at being 50 or above), was barely large enough for 2 people, let's say three if they ordered every appetizer on the menu but at that price it was decidedly meager. The other animal protein option was a chicken at 49, but can't we all agree, only one restaurant gets to charge ridiculous prices for chicken and that title has long been claimed by Zuni. And there it was, our entire meal, an assortment of over priced, over salted, forgettable dishes in a albeit minimalistically lovely environment felt as sterile and unremarkable as the food set on the beach wood colored tables... blanched and bleached of the character that this restaurant used to have. read more

I think this place is a one and done for us. The cocktails are tasty, but they are served in very small glasses and priced at around $24 each. Really wish I took a picture of the cocktail glasses with my hand in it for scale because I was shocked. All of the food was also overpriced: $24 for a green salad with some bits of fruit on it, $24 for an appetizer-sized squid salad, a whopping $27 for a squash salad, $23 for maybe 6? small baked potatoes with a dollop of miso paste and some pickled onion rings. Sourdough bread was also overpriced with 5 slices at $11. For reference, the Morris charges $8 for a larger portion of Tartine bread. The optional spreads were priced at $9 each. Staff were nice and it was sad to see them work in an empty restaurant. I'm guessing that very few people are going to recommend this restaurant to family and friends because no one wants to overpay at this level and you don't leave feeling great about it. Basic economics will tell you that if you charge too much for your food and cocktails, you will have fewer customers. This is really a value per dollar question since there are Michelin star restaurants in SF that can charge high prices for tasting menu courses where the food is art on a plate and the experience is memorable. This isn't that. This restaurant may be able to make a profit off of each customer that comes in for the food and drinks that they consume, but operating at a low volume is going to kill this business. read more

Celebrated my friend's first paycheck at a new job here (the best part of the meal was at the end when she paid). This place is known for their bar program and the drinks certainly lived up to the hype (I had a non-alcoholic pomegranate spritzer and she had the Shirley Temple). We came for dinner and the overall experience was mixed: (1). Charcuterie plate (4/5) - we chose the chef's selection of 4 and it included liver mousse (excellent), chicken pate (basically chicken spam), pancetta (lardo), salami and pickled vegetables. I am a big fan of the liver mousse. Note that chef's selection means no substitutions. (2). Kabocha Squash Griddle Cake (3/5) - this was OK but I couldn't really taste the Japanese squash. The chanterelles were excellent. (3). Fideo (5/5) - this was surprisingly good. The spaghetti was perfectly al dente and the bread was the perfect consommé soaking device. (4). Roast Chicken (3/5) - this was very moist but was a bit too salty for me. The cauliflower was OK but would have better roasted. (5). Lemon Tart (3/5) - nice simple dessert. Service was good and the restaurant itself was very impressive. It's a bit on the expensive side - with tax and tip and two drinks, this was about $125 per person. For a small event or private party, Bar Agricole couldn't be more ideal. Last month I reached out to inquire about hosting a birthday dinner for about 12 people. The dinner would be about two weeks away from my initial message, which is admittedly a bit of a tight timeline, but Allison was so accommodating, informative, and helpful in booking this dinner and handling all the logistics of it. The menu the chef put together was elegant and perfectly appropriate and our wonderful waiter Eric was so diligent and gracious. He gave us great wine recommendations and was eager to make sure everyone had a great time. He also greeted us at the door with our boxes of flowers and vases that I had brought for decor, which was very gentlemanly and speaks to Bar Agricole's great service! The St. Vincent room was so elegant and intimate, I really really love the way this space was designed. The restaurant also had this incredible smoky aroma the entire night, I guess from one of their ovens or smokers in the kitchen. Either way, it set such a sultry and classy mood. We had the dinner scheduled for around 7:30, but stayed till closing and the staff was so kind and courteous. They never rushed us or pressured us in any way, and it was just such a pleasant experience and night! read more

Review Going in with high expectations based on the original Bar Agricole, the minute we walked in the door we knew we would be in store for something very different than the first resturant. The original was warm, inviting, quirky, fun, lively place with a great selection tasty dishes and inventive cocktails. The new place is like the polar opposite of the original. Being in business myself for over 40 years and friends in the restaurant business the saying is "don't mess with success". Customers like certain menu items and experiences, once that is changed or removed, customers are not happy. It would have been smarter to open this restaurant under a new name since it is nothing like the original. Cocktails: Monkey's Gland Ti' Punch Gin Martini We ordered 3 cocktails which were tasty...but just a taste for a lot on dough. A small glass with a "huge" cube that pushes up the small portion of alcohol to appear larger than it is. The food: On the menu we wanted to try something with our cocktails and we ordered the Jerk Spiced Walnuts. They came room temperature which surprised us and seemed stale, we ate 4 and returned the dish, disappointed We reviewed the variety of starters and appetizers on the menu and landed on "the bread and tin" series We ordered the Smoked Albacore Tuna and the Smoked Sardines. The bread came and was very good and the "tins" came which they had explained, that they had contracted with these small suppliers to create these tins of fish for the restaurant. We are all for supporting small Craft businesses but the presentation very undesirable. If I want to have bread and a can of cold sardines, I can do that at home for a whole lot cheaper. We were expecting some sort of presentation not cans on a plate with a few slices of bread. Next we ordered their burger with the grilled asparagus. The burger was very juicy and flavorful but unfortunately over-salted, Not something you would expect at a high-end restaurant and paying a lot of money ($29) for. Service: Overall Good but not warm and inviting. A little more cold and disinterested, with one exception, the feeling was kind of like the interior of the restaurant. Needless to say we left disappointed and shocked that this once really fun and desirable restaurant in a different location had transformed into something that is Unrecognizable and less than desirable. read more

The staff at Bar Agricole confirmed by email that they are not willing to accommodate vegans. In light of the many reports that have indicated that transitioning toward a plant-based diet is one of the most important things humans can do to counter climate change, I find it hard to understand that any restaurant hasn't given this enough thought to, at the very least, offer plant-based options--especially in an area that has more than a sufficient market to support it. Yah, it's a great place for cocktails and even better for oyster happy hour. That alone should get you to drive across town to try this place. Nice covered patio seating or head indoors if you prefer. Menu has mostly small dishes served family style. Started with a dozen $1 oysters that were delicious. The duck pate was nice but needs more bread. Was glad that they provided some more upon asking. The waiter was kind enough to note that they normally charged but we could have these two small pieces for free. Also ordered a custard topped with black truffle. That was exceptional. Finally had the calamari which was served cold with a spicy texmex sauce. Really well done. Great for oysters and happy hour. Otherwise pricy but very good. Nice and relaxed atmosphere. read more

I loved the old Bar Agricole and am happy to report that I love the new one, too! Space is sparse, sleek and elegant. Modern art on the walls, lots of natural wood tones. Music is perfect -- quirky and jazzy; loud enough to be a vibe and soft enough that you can definitely hear your dinner partner speak. This place has definite vibes and is clearly attracting a cool crowd, several tables looked like they could be Apple UI designers, lol. Service was wonderfully fun and cheeky. Came for date night with my partner and was quite excited, but felt pretty let down. Overall, overpriced and under-delivering. Ambiance was ok but a little basic and lackluster. Food portions were very small for the price charged (e.g., cod) and food wasn't particularly interesting (though the meat of the burger was good). Service was kind and ok, but a bit "unsure" and inattentive. Restaurant was almost empty but drinks still took a while, ordering second rounds of drinks came after we finished eating, and we had to ask for water, wasn't offered. Most of all, drinks very not as good as I expected from a place like this: while the rum cocktail was good, I was very excited about the side-by-side old fashioneds but they arrived in tall small glasses (I thought a low and wide rocks glass was meant to allow smelling at the same time as sipping), didn't even have an orange peel (it's garnish, I know, but also changes the smell), and honestly didn't taste too interesting. I'm not a whiskey expert, but for the price, at a venue that distills their own spirits, I expected a more elevated experience. read more

Our visit was a total let down. The service was lackluster and most of the staff were just really weird we couldn't put our finger on it - disinterested, unfriendly, uncertain? The cocktails were good but overpriced. We ordered spicy walnuts and the cheese/fruit plate. The server failed to tell us that the cheese and fruit plate actually also came with walnuts so we had a LOT of walnuts. The amount of cheese on the cheese plate was so small we felt insulted. Everything about the space felt cold and cavernous. We decided not to order any food based on the quality/ price of the snacks. I cannot believe it has been 11 years since I went to the old location. My yesterday visit brings one more star. That star is due to the amazing and friendly team. Let's go over the experience. The decor is very innovative for a restaurant. However, I am not sure anyone will go there for cocktails only as there is no inviting bar. Instead, they have a kinda sorta bar where you can sit for dinner, and a cocktail island in the other room. To stay on cocktails, we had two cocktails each and they were all inviting (ahem, for more). The menu is as odd and restricted as the old place, but everything was good. Thumbs up on the half chicken. The wine list is as expensive as the old one. However, it is more interesting. The restaurant is losing on the odd location (Mission at Van Ness), which is usually a drive-by location. I even told the mixologist/server that they needed to lower the blinds if they wanted to survive. Let's keep the bubble preserved from the passing buses, smokers and the poor landscape. Let's lower the blinds and add a couple more dishes and we'll be on our way to glory. read more

My friends say I drink way too much. I should feel a little pang of guilt, but I don't. Besides, do I really need that kind of negativity in my life? ;p And is it really my fault that SF is blessed with a slew of top notch cocktail places where I can easily throw back a few? is it really a curse of a cocktail afficionado to be drawn to quality liquor, pretty garnishes and barrel aged ... ANYTHING? Bar Agricole is one such place. I was fortunate that bartender extraordinaire Eric Johnson was on helm the night I came in. I didn't realize I was at the hands of the master until I came home and did a bit of research on him. (some people go gaga over star chefs, but not me!) He gave us the spiel, primarily about agricole because most of my rum experiences are limited to mojitos and fruity drinks with umbrellas. None of that here, rum cocktails dominate the menu and are as elegant as can be. Try the Planter's Punch with white agricole, grapefruit, lime and grenadine. The faint pink color makes for a pretty cocktail too! For the first time ever, I had an old fashioned with gin! It was knock my socks off delicious and it makes sense since they use local powerhouse distillery St. George. Their house old fashioned is different as well. While everyone else in this drinking town use bourbon or whiskey, they do a single cask cognac here. And last but not the least, a boozy but balanced Whiz Bang to round out the night. All that drinking will make you hungry, we ate beforehand but snacked on their savory bread pudding and chicken liver mousse. Both appetizing, but pricey. If the food and drinks don't wow you (are you dead?!) the design will. The SOMA neighborhood is primarily industrial and it's really nice to have this minimalist modern, but warm restaurant to cool your heels in. Their space is massive and even has an outdoor courtyard area complete with a raised herb garden. The interior of the restaurant feels open with its high ceilings, but is intimate because of the wooden hull hanging form the ceiling, which is made from recycled whiskey barrels. The delicate glass sculptures suspended around the skylights adds a touch of whimsy into the space. 3.5 STARS Sunday Funday. I rarely get to enjoy such a thing because who wants to nurse a hangover on Monday of all days of the week? Not I. However, with a upcoming 3-day weekend, and a James Beard Nominee for Outstanding Bar Program, I thought what better way to get smashed but to get smashed on SF's finest cocktails at Bar Agricole. As I was about to order another, I got flashbacks of our partying heydays: jumping on couches, face-planting onto bottle service tables, passing out at Lucky Penny's, and coming home with no shoes and one whorelash hanging on for dear life. I looked around our table of 12 and nobody seemed to be feeling it. Awww, we're all grown up now (I'm 90% there) and half the table is engaged. Then, I looked around at the other tables. Total civility. Umm yah, I probably should skip on additional cocktails for the sake of not embarrassing my friends and getting escorted out by management...during brunch. Save the ratchetness for after midnight. I coordinated our large party brunch through their event manager, Ben who was professional and responsive. The staff was very attentive and made sure to clear out plates quickly and keep our water glasses filled. Food service was timely and there wasn't a long lag between courses as you would usually experience with a large group. Bar Agricole is structurally a beautiful restaurant that's contemporary and minimalist in decor. We sat in the outdoor patio which was perfect for brunch and to enjoy the cool summer breeze. Parking is super easy on the weekdays and on the weekends before 8 pm (central to clubs and bars) which makes it a good option for large group meal. I was hoping that brunch at Bar Agricole would be enticing enough to warrant a visit back for dinner but unfortunately, it's not a place I would come back to eat. But to drink? I already have a plan lined up... Pre-fade at Bar Agricole then head over to Bootie next door to dance on the stage then finish the night face-planting into slice of pizza at DNA pizza (open 24/7). Decent happy hour spot: beautifully trendy, with strong, creative drinks. Inside, a narrow space between booths and the main bar makes it tough to mingle in a crowd, but a spacious front patio solves that problem. On my last visit, service was lacking, probably in part due Bar Agricole's popularity. Sitting in their cave-like downstairs dining room, servers were difficult to flag, though they passed us regularly to and from the kitchen. Sit upstairs, or request patio seating (during the day). Hungry? Get the spaghetti, and avoid the braised squid chili. Not that it was bad - it was hearty, herby, and forgivably salty - but its portion made it tough to justify its cost ($17). I keep missing chef Brandon Jew's culinary trail because I tried Adesso in Oakland after he left and now Bar Agricole after he left. Was it something I said, Brandon? Actually Jamie W. and I didn't come here to eat since we just finished dinner at the new Sri Lankan SoMa eatery, 1601 Bar & Kitchen (review: http://bit.ly/HRbxgN). Besides, Michael Bauer said this place had lost its foodie mojo ever since Jew left earlier this year and the freshly promoted sous chef had not found his footing yet. Now it could be a bunch of Bauer ballsac for all I know, but we did know that the consistent hallmark in Bar Agricole lies in its vaunted cocktail menu. With this, Jamie and I both heartily agree. The place is quite a scene no matter what hour you show up in the evening, even though we were reassured by the hostess that the bulk of the bar crowd would be seated soon. Never happened. All the seats were taken, and no one looked ready to leave. No matter since the bartender treated us with respect. The attentiveness was what impressed me about the service here. All cocktails are a flat $11, so that ironically made the choice harder. I'm sad I missed the pre-opening party, and that it took so long to get back here finally. I could have used this place as a dinner option before the who-knows-how-many shows I've seen at Slim's. The patio wasn't quite finished yet when I went but I guess it is now. Very cool abr area in the front and the middle of the long space. Dining booths in the back with a few scattered tables. The industrial chic space is very hip and sleek. I was just passing through and needed a quick bite on the way back from a wedding in Wine Country. Got the amazing duo of Puntarelle/radicchio,/bagna cauda salad with Spanish anchovies and the house made head cheese. For such small plates they pack a lot of flavor and were both very well seasoned. Had a traditional sour to wash it all down. My server was very cute and friendly as were most of the staff. The floor manager was also very attentive. I'd definitely like to hit this place at least two more times with the intent of just drinks (forgot to say the wine list is broad and interesting) and dinner as I'd like to hit up the other fare. Parking is free. Woke up late and went to run some errands before hand in Richmond and felt a bit sweaty, weather is super warm this part of the year, so many joggers on the road, 3.3 mile across town and my brain already turned into mush. Such was how I started my day on Sunday. Surprisingly mellow atmosphere that offers a great deal of cocktails - it is a 2015 James Beard winner for cocktails spot. Decidedly simple but to the point brunch menu. Radish with salt and butter reminded me of France. Scone with honey butter was not only tasty but a bit too decadent. Girlfriends are dashingly stylish. I bear gifts. I was happy that they were liking these Parisian style scarves I got for them. Waitstaff are hipsters straight out of Portlandia, they offer water in a jar and coffee strong and black. All refilled seamlessly. Having just returned from Norway, where labors are hard to find and people are used to waiting for a long periods of time before getting served, it's nice to know that this society is still a service oriented society. We ordered the egg dishes - baked and fried. Delicious. No one is rushing us so we spent nearly 3 hours catching up. It's been over 8 weeks, so much has happened. One girlfriend is dreading her upcoming line dance for her son's school's fund raising, one girlfriend is battling raccoons in her newly purchased multi million dollar home, one girlfriend is getting all the permits pulled and getting ready to sell her Marin home, I'm too busy fingering out what time of the day it is and what time zone I'm at to notice that I've got a big o' stain on the front of my dress. Perfect afternoon brunch place. Well cooked eggs. French toast as dessert, completely unnecessary but totally worth it nonetheless. Making plans for an autumn get away to the wine country. I take photos and put them on instagram and FB. They all look million bucks. Some of us, thankfully, age gracefully and beautifully, so much so that they cause envy among their peers. I love my lady friends who love to dine in posh places like this. I get the wait staff to recommend a cocktail that would rock my world towards the end. It was made of Jamaican rum and is James Beard worthy. I'm reminded by my friend's parting words earlier, "Have fun with your girlfriends, but don't have too much fun." How could I not?! read more

Go for the best cocktails in the city, superb food, and great service. We enjoyed a mid-week dinner here and had such a great experience that we're going back tonight. Highlights included: - Mezcal pineapple cocktail: Typically, I prefer vodka or gin but this is the best cocktail I've had in SF, hands down. It's exceptionally balanced--not too sweet or smoky--with an enjoyable complexity (there may be a hint of jalapeno in there) - Black Cod: Perfectly cooked with delicious Italian red peppers. We magically got a table for 8 at 8:15pm on a Saturday! We were in a rush and they fed us and had the bill out by 9:45pm. THE COST: $260.13 for 4 cocktails, 4 starters, and 3 mains. This was a fairly minimal dinner, so it was a bit pricey for 8 of us. THE FOOD/DRINK: 5 stars: (Mixed Drinks) Sleepyhead ($15). I'd forgotten how good this drink was. It's all about the drinks here! My friends and I came on a random Wednesday night. We didn't have reservations and started with a group of three people. (Yes, we were the annoying table that kept growing!) They kindly sat us outside at a table for four to start. Later on we became a group of five and then a group of seven. The restaurant was nice enough to pull up the table next to us to make room for all the extra people. We ordered: Drinks: $11 each -'Ti punch - with rhum agricole, cane syrup and lime peel -Planter's punch - with white agricole, lime, grenadine, grapefruit and bitters -Sleepyhead - brandy, ginger, mint, lime, sparkling wine -Whiz bang - scotch, vermouth, grenadine, absinthe, bitters -Hallelujah - armagnac, aged agricole, vermouth, grenadine, bar spoon lime I've never been much of a cocktail person myself since I don't know much about mixing flavors of alcohols, etc, but the bartenders here are masters! The way all the ingredients complimented each other to make a finely crafted cocktail that wasn't too sweet and packed a small punch. I was in cocktail heaven! We ordered food as well since we spent a good amount of hours there as we added people to our party. We ended up ordering: -Grilled flatbread with smashed English peas herb salad ($12) -Pork Pate with fennel, radish, little gem lettuces & whole grain mustard ($12) -Wild arugula and endive salad with kumquats ($9) -Manila clams with fregola sarda, green garlic, wild nettles and fennel ($14 small portion) -Whole wheat bigoli with spinach, green garlic and anchovies ($12 small portion) -Roast duck breast with rutabaga, castelfranco, yogurt and dukkah ($37 large portion) -Farinata with maitake, white beech mushrooms and a chrysanthemum salad ($20) -Roast pork loin with bintje potatoes, mustard greens and horseradish salsa verde ($38 large portion) The food was okay. Basically there was one element of each dish I enjoyed, but as a whole, most of the dishes didn't gel for me. For example, with the grilled flatbread, my favorite part was the English smash peas, not the flatbread. And for the pate, I enjoyed the salad that came with it, not necessarily the pate. My wife and I had dinner at Bar Agricole on Valentine's Day. We had a very disappointing experience. - While we appreciate what the restaurant is trying to accomplish with the service model (i.e., shared service responsibility, shared service fees, community ethos), it doesn't work - Our service was terrible; not only did we wait at every juncture of the evening, from getting water when we sat down, to getting our dishes, to closing our bill, but there was no continuity in the service - We had multiple people ask us the same question about where we were in the pre fixe menu, for example; no one had any persistent consciousness of our experience - It was sloppy, disorganized, slow and completely out of step with the food quality and company they are trying to keep as a restaurant - While some of that may have had to do with being understaffed (it seemed clear that they were wildly understaffed that night), most of it has to do with a broken service model: If everyone has responsibility for my dining experience, then no one has responsibility for my dining experience - the model doesn't work, which is why more restaurants don't use it - The most offensive part of the evening was when one of the waiters showed up with my wife's final wine pairing after we were done eating; he didn't apologize or try to explain; instead, he doubled-down on the mistake - rather than take responsibility, he tried to tell us that it wasn't important to get the wine with the food and that the notion of a pairing overstated the importance of having certain wine with certain dishes. We went here for dinner tonight and I must admit - this is one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in San Francisco to date. At first glance, I was looking forward to it; lovely ambiance set amid a bustling area that set the stage for a lovely evening. I think what got me thinking right off the bat was the drink. I ordered an Old Fashioned, which came in a full-sized glass with an enormous ice cube (my favorite), but contained (maybe) one ounce of liquid. I was amazed that they are charging anywhere between $15 - $20 per cocktail for something so small that I can finish in just a couple of small sips. Then came the food. We ordered a collection of appetizers and main courses, of which tasted fairly bland and were supremely overpriced. For example, we ordered a "flatbread", in which we received a flat piece of bread and some sauce. We also ordered their nearly $30 trout and received a piece the size of a small appetizer with a little green leaf stuck on top. Then came the service. Each and every server seemed angry to be there and had no interest in checking how we were doing or providing any customer service. We waited a long time before ordering and were met with many eye rolls as we relayed our desire to not eat butter or dairy. Overall, very disappointed with this restaurant. For three people we paid $250 plus tip. For this obscene price, we could have done exceedingly better, and I'd advise the discerning diner to try somewhere else. read more

So like besides the great outdoor space to host your party and perhaps the oysters I'm going to say Bar A was okay. We came here for a colleges welcome dinner and when I say say dinner we had none cause the menu had literally 3 options for full plates and one of them being a burger...why! But I saved the suggestion game by just ordering us a plate of oysters, a charcuterie plate and oh some aguachille...oh but wait our server forgot to tell us until we just sat around waiting for 15 mins after the rest of our food was done that they actually ran out of it cause they put it towards the outside party that they were catering -__- So besides their drinks which are the only thing getting a 4/5 from me this place is a no return shop for me. NOTE: This review is only for the bar. I had requested a nightcap after dinner, so towards the end of our dinner the No1DP was searching Google for a bar with an excellent bar program. Though we both like a good cocktail, his tastes are quite different from mine so he suggested a bar that I wouldn't have thought otherwise. He got this off a list that I myself would also go by (and my suggestion was actually placed higher) but his rationale is that Bar Agricole was ranked as a finalist for James Beard's Outstanding Bar Program every year since 2012. The restaurant has a small sign that denotes its entrance. It's a little hard to find at night, especially since the restaurant is sectioned off into two parts: the heated patio outside and the restaurant/bar portion inside. There's a wheelchair-accessible ramp next to the stairs and a coat check right next to the entrance of the inside portion. We were immediately sat at the bar upon request and were greeted by our bartender Christopher. He has been a bartender here for about 3 years and shows great passion for his craft. Considering he was making our drinks in front of us he exuded an air of confidence as he mixed our drinks, explaining the process of what goes on behind each step. I ordered on the menu a Brandy Milk Punch (with Jamaican rum, whole egg and nutmeg, $13). I saw Christopher crack a whole egg into my drink, a distinction of a flip cocktail and mixed quite well. The result is quite a slightly sweet, smooth yet potent cocktail that I don't encounter quite often. The thing about pre-prohibition cocktails are that they are to be sipped as opposed to chugged and when done correctly, make the drinker feel more mellow. Considering I usually drink my mules and spicy margaritas fast, it was a new experience for me to drink a sipping cocktail. Luckily I had a good night's sleep. No1DP got a off-menu cocktail. Not sure what the base liquor was but the main bitter was Varnelli Amaro Dell'Erborista. This bitter is made with herbs from Central Italy along with the honey used to sweeten the bitter, which is made using the bees that also pollinate the herbs. No1DP loves his bitter cocktails so he appreciated the subtle nuances of bitter and sweet. I wish we had known about the restaurant portion because the No1DP was impressed with the dishes he briefly saw. Unfortunately it's closed on Sundays so we aren't able to make a subsequent dinner reservation. However this is definitely on my list of restaurants to come back to next time we're both in SF. read more
