It's very flavorful and tender. Not as amazing as the mussels tart but still worth a try. Chili crab - this put them on the map. SUPER DELICIOUS. It's not what you'd expect from a creation called 'chili crab'. There's no shell to be seen and the crab meat is actually buried underneath. Scoop from the inside out. Tons of flavor and I wished the portion size was doubled. Lamb pappardelle - if you like lamb then you'll love this. Lots of different spices and flavors. It has a very deep flavor profile that makes you appreciate all the work and thought that went into designing this dish. I'd get this again also! Strawberry tiramisu - they brought this out for the birthday celebration. They prepared it in a gigantic bowl. Scooped out a generous portion and plated it right in front of us. Resy wasn't as clear and we had booked a veranda table, which is ALC and not tasting at all. The joys of having an early reservation closer to opening. Though they said that they would need the table back by 7:15PM, at some point, this was no longer a thing...more on that later. Dinner was great. The food is thoughtful and fun. It reminded me a lot of Jeune et Jolie in Carlsbad, but more ambitious. The plating was beautiful. When the courses came to the table, you there was an element of excitement because we had a clear view of the pass and had an idea of what was coming our way. Service was tremendous. We wanted for nothing. The dishes here are presented simultaneously with graceful fanfare. Everything was effortless and warm...very much like Jeune et Jolie. The somm program here is also terrific. Really loved the wine pairings. The wines were fun and did their job to enhance the plates. Highlights: banana Negroni, clam shashlik, tomato, fish en brodo, rice & honey We had a fun evening. The experience is great. There is room for improvement. Pacing was a little out of control. We were here for 4 hours for 10 courses. They're pretty ambitious trying to push all of this out and turn the table twice during service...this clearly did not happen the night we were there. There were long lulls between courses, but our group was full of longtime friends and we had plenty to talk about and the somm team refilled our wine glasses. A few times we noticed the time in between, but it didn't impact our experience much. There is so much potential here. You know they are trying for a star. The Bib on the shelf isn't enough. If they can work on the timing bit, I think they are well on their way. That experience, you ask? Making monjayaki! Monjayaki, as I was Googling it, as described as, and I wholeheartedly agree, the "wet, sloppy, soupy" cousin to Okonomiyaki, hilariously enough. I've seen monjayaki mentioned in a lot of manga and anime like March Comes in Like a Lion, DANDADAN, Otaku Elf, and even Persona 5. What makes Happa even more unique though, and because the okonomiyaki restaurants don't do this, is that they let you cook the monja ingredients yourself. They bring out the griddle hot plate, you can scan the QR code, and then follow the instructions to cook! A lot of confusion, not the most visually appealing pictures, but it was a fun process and for all my food adventures in SoCal, this was a first for us! Also thank you to the staff that eventually stepped in to let us know we don't need to mix anymore and to turn off the grill to let us know it was ready. You're a real one. For our dinner, we got the: 1) Broiled Tara Miso: -Broiled miso marinated black cod. -Moist and fluffy piece of fish. Decent portion for a snack to eat while drinking. Comes with a lemon slice. Nice sweet savory miso flavor. 2) Mabo Monja: -This comes with the cabbage and monjya base as well as the toppings and ingredients needed for the mabo flavor (mabo seasoned ground meat, tofu, green onions, etc.). -There's 2 small spatulas you use to cook and eat with, but be careful, it's really, really hot! -I'm not sure what making the circle dam is and pouring in the liquid was for as I'm not a cook versus just pouring everything in at once, but it looked like what it was supposed to and the staff didn't cut in immediately (positive). -Savory, slightly sour due to the mabo taste, not numbing, but great umami taste. Not too salty either so we didn't feel like we needed any rice, slightly gooey, runny texture (avoid this if it's not your thing) with the crips edges. My brother enjoyed this more than regular okonomiyaki as it's more protein and savory taste and less cabbage. Worth trying at least once. -Though, this was barely enough for 2 adults and we were not even super hungry, so keep this in mind if you come here starving or with a large party (maybe not the best idea to go to an izakaya or drinking focused restaurant if that's the case). Altogether, with tax and tip, this was around $60, which is pretty steep considering the amount of food we got, but it is what it is and it's more of the experience than anything. Parking is easy, you can park inside the hotel parking structure. Just wait for the gates to open. The restaurant has outdoor patio dining, a regular dining area, and a nicer area if you plan to drink. We didn't plan to drink so we dined in the regular area. Reminds us of a bit older, aged take out restaurant, so nothing fancy, super low key. Hopefully, one day we can go dine in the nicer area.

High quality bread all nice and toasty paired with this incredible olive-infused butter. - The Tunisian bruschetta almost got ordered twice as well. The tuna was phenomenal and makes for a great shared plate. I'm a sucker for any dish with an egg on it so will 100% be ordered this next time we stop in. You pay about $30 for the dish, you'd expect more than like three small pieces of crab. But like I said, it was actually good. I would probably order it again, if I ever decide to come back. The ambiance wasn't great. The place doesn't look like a place you'd call a bistro with their chicken wire fence and signage. Felt more of a skate park to me when entering and sitting down. I had higher expectations but I had originally came for another reason. I'll see if I give this place another try down the line.
