We had the local catch burger, portobello burger, and garlic fries. The fries were pretty oily and not crispy enough. The garlic was great though! The local catch sandwich was pretty mid unfortunately. It tasted like a regular fish sandwich, if you're into that. Nothing special or standout at all. The portobello mushroom is a good option in the area, since there's pretty limited non-tofu vegetarian options. Really great burger spot along the Kuhio side of the International Market Place! After stuffing ourselves silly with all the amazing food around the island for a week we were craving a good teri burger - Banzai was near our hotel and we walked past it many times so we decided to give it a try. We got the teri burger and their version of a double double along with onion rings and it was delicious. Probably the most reasonably priced burger spot around the Waikiki proper area. Don't be confused with Banzai and Bonsai. Banzai is a Japanese word for enthusiastic exclamation with meaning of "ten thousand years". Bonsai is a tiny potted tree. I didn't get a chance to try the burgers because Banzai Burger is always packed during the dinnertime. The outdoor seating is a premium, because I don't want to eat at the hotel room nor at the food court. This morning, we walked by to get breakfast and saw there were plenty of open seats. Looking at the menu and didn't see much interesting. So, we walked to another food vendor at Kūhiō Ave. Food Hall for something we both like. Coming from California, I think the burgers here are just average. They aren't bad, but they're not amazing either. I think what knocked it down to 3 stars was the fries- they're pretty dry and flavorless. They're kind of similar to In N Out burgers but with thicker buns and more expensive. Banzai Burger is the place to go after a good surf session! I had the mushroom and onion burger ($13) and my friend had the local catch sandwich ($16), and we shared the regular fries ($4.25). The prices were beyond reasonable, especially in Waikiki. My burger was super juicy, and the mushrooms and onions complemented the patty really well, not dry at all! We washed it down with a dragon fruit ice tea, which I highly recommend. The pictures below do not do justice. Did not have time to curate and position the burger for aesthetics, because we were starving. I don't have a picture of the fish sandwich because she was already half way through it. Don't get me wrong, the taste of the meat was fantastic, but the greasiness of the bun was a letdown, at least on the one I ordered. I ended up eating the meat by itself. What we order I ordered the Hawaiian Burger; it was tasty but had too much teriyaki sauce. My husband had the Waimea Burger with the right amount of banzai sauce, he was pleased with his choice. We also ordered a side of fries each (It didn't come with the burger), but just one order could have been enough for both of us.
