I am on a three week trip in Europe and started to feel a little under the weather when I passed a Ramen spot in Florence and knew it must be fate. I've had plenty of delicious pasta and pizza since I've been here, but as far as I know, those foods do not have the same magical healing properties as a big ole bowl of broth, so I chose that for dinner tonight. The food here was very good, surprisingly authentic, and really reasonably priced. Plus they called the Gyoza "Japanese Ravioli" which I think is adorable. The space is a little cramped but that's normal for Europe, they had two rooms so they could probably accommodate a bigger group if you gave them enough notice. Delicious ramen in Florence! We were craving some comfort food (Asian food) and was happy to see this place conveniently located and with good reviews. We showed up 10 minutes before they open at 7pm and there was already a crowd of people gathered outside for it to open. A good sign that it must be good if even locals gather to come here! Because we were one of the first to arrive, we had the option to side in the main dining area, or the side ramen-only dining area. Pro-tip: sit in the main dining area. The food comes out from there, and it's also where you go up to pay. They're more attentive on this side compared to the ramen-only side where they pop in an out of. They have amazing combo deals that are totally worth it. You get your bowl of ramen, a rice bowl, and gyoza. Rice bowls are good! Their chashu rice bowl with white rice is THE BEST. Even better than chashu white rice bowls in LA. We also tried the fried rice bowl and it was definitely not as food as the chashu bowl. And their gyoza is to die for. It's not folded like traditional gyoza, but it is FRESH AND DELICIOUS. Again, even better than a lot of places in LA! The ramen is good. Not incredible, but not bad. It really gets the job done when you're craving some ramen. My only wish was that it had more toppings and if you could add more things. I wish I could have had more nori, corn, sesame seeds, etc. It was a rather plain bowl. And I REALLY wish they had soft-boiled eggs instead of the hard-boiled they give you. Are you a tourist? Are you tired of eating Italian food? If so... you found yourself a pretty good ramen place to go to. My hubby and I weren't expecting much coming here. All we knew was that we wanted something different from what we've been eating for days on end on our trip. Their ramen is a MUST! it took awhile to come out but it was surprisingly flavorful! Definitely worth the wait!! The broth was on point and i wanted more!!! we also got the gyoza. It is wrapped differently than in the states but it was not bad. Wasn't my favorite item. I would highly getting the combo deal where you get the ramen, fried rice, and gyoza. The fried rice portion was small but pretty BOMB! This way it'll give you a variety and you can definitely share if there's two of you. They do get pretty crowded and the staff won't allow you to stand inside waiting. They will kick you outside. I would know because I got kicked out. So you'll see a huge crowd outside waiting for their turn. Service isn't great but the food totally made up for it. Definitely satisfied my taste bud cravings for something non-italian. tips: *street parking is available if you're lucky. *located next to a pharmacy. *staff speaks italian, limited english, and my guess is perhaps japanese. read more

If you're looking for a true simple Japanese meal, this is definitely the place. The indoor itself is minimally furnished, with menu ideograms hanging on the wall. On the menu you find ramen, rice and noodles dishes that you can also combine in a combo dish. The food is fresh and amazingly tasty! There isn't a proper vegetarian choice, but during summer you can find more. Tip: it's mandatory to go early (7.30 pm top) since they run out of some of the ingredients real fast. Okay. I have to say this is place is great. One of the very few ramen joints in the western worlds to make their own gyoza (not frozen). Okay, okay, okay- here's what to order for two people: Order TWO gyoza because they are oh-so good (and because they typically have a 30 minute queue), and a MISO ramen and the special spicy miso ramen if you need some spice. Oh boy, here we go- this is how to eat it: after downing the gyoza because they are oh-so good, pour the left over gyoza dipping sauce into your miso ramen. This adds some zesty flavor. Don't let the staff take that dipping sauce when you finish the gyoza- believe me they will try! Drinks- that's your choice. I went with the large glass of beer (okay, 3 of them)- it was a nice light beer- Birra Moretti. You crafts beer people can talk all the doo-doo you want, light cheap beer is a perfect compliment to ramen. Oh-so refreshing. My fiance and I ate here mid-April while allergies were kicking in. We were about 1/2 through our 13 day trip and needed a break from Italian food and were craving ramen. I wasn't hopeful we would find a place, but when I Googled Ramen in Florence, I was pleasantly surprised to find Banki. We went that night and they were out of pork, completely, so broth and noodles it was. We both got the Ramen Combo B that came up with the best pork fried rice (now we know where the pork went!) and pretty delicious gyoza. I got the Miso Ramen and my Fiance got the Akkanbe Ramen (spicy ramen). I really enjoyed mine with the different broth flavor from the miso and he loved his spicy ramen, so even with no meat, we both still really liked our ramen and it hit the spot. We walked away saying "ya, that definitely hit the spot" and were very satisfied with our meal. read more

Ah yes...Banki Ramen. Having being on the road in Italy for a couple of weeks, we were finally craving cuisine that was a little more international. Ordered the spicy shoyu ramen with extra cha-su. Showed up, piping hot minutes later. A healthy serving of homemade noodles in a slightly spicy broth with an egg sitting in the middle of it. The pork was tender and fatty, which I like. I could tell you this place is the real deal and you should try it, but instead, just pop your head in at around 6:30-7:00pm...it's packed with the local Japanese population. We're from Southern California so we've had our abundant share of Japanese ramen restaurants. We've been eating Italian food for the past several days so wanted to grab some Asian food tonight. We found Banki Ramen on yelp and it was nearby so thought we give it a try. We got there and I initially ordered a beer. Then a waiter was going over the menu and pointed out all of the items with the extra chashu (slices of pork) weren't longer available. The ramen dishes that had one piece of chashu which cost less were still available. First we thought they were running low since it was later in dinner time. Again we're use to having 3-4 pieces of chashu with our ramen. So we decided to just pay for the beer and find another dinner place. Then we were paying and the asked the owner if she would have more tomorrow if we came back earlier. She said maybe but no guarantee. We walked out and thought that's it's got a business decision to not provide option for the extra pieces of chatshu. Why wouldn't they just charge more. Again we're use to getting more than 1 slice of meat with our ramen. read more

Won't say it's hardcore good (we come from New York where ramen is much more common) and it certainly passes the test given this is Florence. Yes the eggs are not done correctly. We needed to get our ramen fix... It's hard to find ramen in Italy :p we found this place off of yelp. They have an English menu. It's not as good as ramen in America but it still pretty good especially if your tired of pizza and pasta! I ordered the miso flavored ramen and my husband ordered the spicy ramen both were good. Yikes. I really wanted to like this place because I thought it was a pretty brave move to serve Japanese ramen in a sea full of Italian pasta. But this really fell flat - there was no aspect of the ramen that was done correctly. First, the egg. THE EGG. This is such an essential part of ramen, and they completely failed. Instead of being freshly soft boiled, my egg was completely hard boiled and COLD because they had pre-boiled the eggs. Yuck. Second, the pork. The pork should be rich and fatty and indulgent, but instead I got ONE sad piece of lean, dry pork. (Why is it so hard to source the right pork?) Third, the broth was just wrong. I had the spicy ramen, and what it lacked in richness and spice, the broth made up for in pure salt. Fourth, the noodles. Definitely not handmade, though I didn't expect it to be. But just flavorless and bland. The list goes on. (The only vegetable in the noodles were sad, undercooked, crunchy pieces of cabbage. The gyoza was definitely frozen and thus unpleasantly chewy and had no crisp.) And the meal isn't cheap either - 24 euro for 2 ramen and an order of gyoza. Spend your money elsewhere. Also there was a strange segregated seating situation where all of the Asian patrons were seated in one room, and all the Italian patrons were seated in another. What's up with that? read more

Ramen in Florence, who woulda thought? The bar at Via dei Banchi 14R, thought of it, that's who. And if you are the curious, flexible, ramen loving type it will do just fine. Galateria by day, RAmen factory by night. The atmosphere is just that, inside it looks like your typical italian bar/pasticceria, but waiters are carrying trays of hot ramen and little shoyu bottles instead of cappuccino and brioche. There is an additional room off to the side of the pasticceria that has tables and benches and posters of how to eat ramen (written in japanese and italian) It gives the impression that this is no lounge bar; you order, you eat, and you get out. I am cool with that. From the looks of things this place is hopping, specially friday night at 8pm. I was lucky to get a table quickly (in the pasticceria side). Most people were eating Ramen and Japanese fried dumplings called gyoza (italians call them japanese 'ravioli' ) There were quite a few large parties of 5 or more and Banki Ramen does a good job to accommodate everyone. The waiters are polite and very fast taking your order and getting your food out. There are about 5 different types of Ramen you can order. You can also order a combo plate that includes a gyoza, rice, salty cabbage and your choice of Ramen. There are a couple of other noodle choices you can get with meet of vegetables. I was looking for Ramen without any meet, but I was told that it doesn't exist (obviously, this man has never been to California) so I opted for the Yaki Soba plate, which is a bowl of fried noodles with vegetables. The "vegetables" were itty bitty onions and carrots bits. It tasted as though it was reheated, 3 day old noodles drenched in salt. I wasn't impressed. I asked for an additional side of vegetable, just to mix it up a bit, but the cabbage with rice vinegar i got came in a condiment sized dish and was super salty, it was almost uneatable. The only item that I genuinely enjoyed was the asahi beer (€4) After 25 minutes of dining, €12 spent, the only feeling that I was left with of this Ramen bar... was a nasty stomach ache. read more

we finally discovered that florence had a ramen restaurant this past week. We got there at 7 which is a great idea since it tends to get crowded after 730-8pm. They have a combination menu which includes appetizers and the beautiful ramen soup. I really liked the miso and pork. Prices are around 12-15 euros each with drink. Feels like Japan! read more

After a long wait for a table and then again for the food, I have to say I was a little disappointed. I've never had a bowl of ramen with one small piece of cha-su. #16. Ramen + Chasyu Bowl !!!! I was sick on my last night in Florence and was craving soup. Googling and Yelping, I came across this restaurant. I was a bit skeptical to try ramen in Italy because it's ramen.. in Italy... Who wouldn't have doubts that it wouldn't be that good? Also, I'm not a huge ramen fan anyways. It's in a confusing location, connected to another place and it's a bit hard to see the sign, but it was fine because I was using Google maps to get me there. I went a little before they opened because I figured it would be packed from all the reviews I read and from another restaurant I went to that also opened late and was extremely crowded. A line was already formed when I got there about 10-15 minutes before opening; I was behind 2 other groups. I ordered #16. The Chasyu bowl came out before the ramen did. It was a small bowl, but I ate the entire bowl. Nothing was left. Not 1 piece of rice or even a piece of green onion. After I finished that, the server came to pick it up. As I was waiting for my ramen to come out, the two women next to me began eating theirs. They kept making noises to indicate that it was good and of course, with my doubtful mind, I was thinking "they're freakin' exaggerating. They probably never had any other ramen before." When mine came out, I sprinkled some pepper into the soup and began eating. My gooooddddd, that ramen was so yummy! I finished everything and I mean everything! The noodles, egg, pork, soup, all of it. Except the bowl and chopsticks. :P The two women I mentioned earlier picked up their bowls and devoured the rest of their soup. I was too embarrassed to do that so I just tilted the bowl and scooped up the rest with my spoon. I'm from SoCal, so there is no shortage of the same meals, but this has got to be the best ramen I've ever had in my life. As I'm writing this, my mouth is watering and I can't get over how good that meal was. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because I didn't like having to wait to pay my bill. I had to ask the waiter for the check, but they told me to go to the register; however, no one was at the register and I had to wait to pay.
