I found this place to be very disappointing. The rice-to-fish ratio for everything we ate was too high (there was barely any fish on the rolls we ate), and the food was very greasy. They used old oil to fry the tempura, and the vegetable tempura was all carrots and potatoes (we ordered vegetable tempura because the sautéed mixed vegetables were not available; we were hoping to eat something green). Based on the reviews my expectations were very high, but they did not deliver high quality sushi. FYI this restaurant does not appear to be run by Japanese sushi chefs.

Overall I found this place to be exactly in par for the value vs price comparison. The service was…read morevery good- friendly, accommodating and pretty fast for Florence standards. When you first walk in, you can appreciate the nice decor that reflects the Asian background of this restaurant. The location is walking distance of you are near cascine Park. I ordered the sautéed vegetables and the salmon curry. I found that both were made to my liking in terms of quality and seasoning. The vegetables were sautéed with just a tiny bit of salt. It could have used some pepper to really take it over the top but it was fine. The salmon was good quality esp for the price range and the curry was delicious! Bottom line...come here for the Thai it is delicious and you get to soak in Asia with the Asian ambience! Good for those staying near cascine. Pros Service Quality of food for the price Seasoning Healthy food factor was great for me :) healthy but delicious

Not typically into restaurants that cater to two different asian cultures because oftentimes I find…read morethat it results in an assortment of dishes that taste vaguely asian (I mean add a dab of soy sauce to rice and bam you've got vaguely asian- anytime, anywhere). In Niwa's case they've done a very good job of serving genuine food that correctly represents both Thai and Japanese cuisine. My friends and I ordered a series of dishes in order to sample all that the restaurant had to offer (ranging from pad thai to seared salmon) and discovered that not only were the dishes flavorful but also very filling. Definitely plan on popping in again. On a side note, the restaurant seems to fill up once it hits 9:00PM (or in Italian format 21:00) so make sure to come a little earlier if you don't want to wait.
