The space is a little cramped but that's normal for Europe, they had two rooms so they could probably accommodate a bigger group if you gave them enough notice. When confronted about why he wouldn't seat us, in Japanese, he became uncomfortable and gave us a business card. No business should treat customers this way in 2024.

The chef, a true Japanese in love with Florence, is in the open kitchen, showing his art to everyone, making delicious specialties like the frittata and marinated anchovies. The Gyoza and Octopus balls were excellent and I highly recommend them. We also tried the Yaki Udon and that was also excellent. In Niwa's case they've done a very good job of serving genuine food that correctly represents both Thai and Japanese cuisine. My friends and I ordered a series of dishes in order to sample all that the restaurant had to offer (ranging from pad thai to seared salmon) and discovered that not only were the dishes flavorful but also very filling. Definitely plan on popping in again. On a side note, the restaurant seems to fill up once it hits 9:00PM (or in Italian format 21:00) so make sure to come a little earlier if you don't want to wait.

Home style Japanese food! Best service in town!…read more This is real home style casual Japanese fare. The staff and kitchen are all Japanese and the food is wonderful. There are constantly crowds of Japanese people here both tourist and local resident which is testament to the quality of food. I can't speak to the Italian menu since I exclusively stick to their Japanese selection. Great udon, tofu dishes, and Japanese style curry as well.
