I have been to Bahn Mi Express twice since it opened recently. The owner and the employees are all very nice. The first time I went was during their soft opening, the day before their grand opening and a second time a little over a week later. The sandwiches are made fresh, so if you are getting a meat that requires grilling, then it will take a little time. Be prepared to wait around 10-15 minutes after ordering before getting your order. They do offer other items such as spring rolls, vermicelli, bao, and coffee and other drinks including fresh pressed sugarcane juice. Their Banh Mi sandwiches are pretty large. The bread is good. The sandwiches are pretty authentic as they spread a thin layer of liver spread on the bread. The sandwiches includes pickled daikon/carrots, jalapeños and choice of meat. The first time I was there the grilled pork was a little lacking, but there seemed to be more meat the second time I got Bahn Mi's there. They have a handful of chairs and tables inside and a couple tables/chairs outside for dining in. Their sandwiches comes in a plastic container vs traditionally wrapped in paper. I went back last week, and ordered #1 combo Banh Mi and a Strawberry Matcha Latte since I just got back from Vietnam, I had the Banh Mi's over there, and nothing will compare to going back to Vietnam. The #1 combo is 5 different meats for under $10, and would have liked the bread to be warm and toasted, the bread was not as soft compared to closer places in Vacaville, I think that small touch would help tremendously since the flavors were all there. The strawberry matcha latte was good, I would try other flavors. I have yet to try the grilled meats, I'll rate again once I try those, but for now I give it 3/5 stars. read more

Ooo, my mom showed me a reel or TikTok of this place opening and she was super enticed because they have fresh sugar cane juice AND banh mi. We were sold and went on the day after they opened. Unfortunately it would have been a 45+ minute wait...the workers told us that around when they open around 8AM until around 11AM is not as busy. No problem for us and we came the next morning. We ordered 5 sandwiches, an egg coffee, and of course sugar cane juice! The sandwiches are pretty good; I ordered the roast pork banh mi and the roast pork had a nice crunch to it. I would get it again, but I did feel the ratio of filling to bread was a bit skimpy. The egg coffee was really good and the whipped egg tasted light and custardy! The sugar cane juice was really refreshing on a hot day, but my parents found it to be too sweet to finish the whole thing. They ended up sipping it throughout the whole day. First time I stopped in during their soft opening around 4pm and they were out of bread so walk straight out because I wanted to try a bahn mi. Well today, I showed up at 1pm and got a dac biet and crispy pork belly bahn mi. The establishment is a bit warm inside but clean. There were maybe 4 of us waiting for our order but I didnt have to wait too long. Unlike other bahn mi places, they put their sandwiches in a clear plastic container rather than wrapped in paper. The veggies and mayo were good. I wish they put more pate and amount of meat in the dac biet was okay. I was expecting more crispy pork belly because there were maybe only 5-6 pieces and the rest was char sui. The bread was tasty but not crispy as expected and for the price, I was expecting something a bit bigger. I had to make my own sauce so I wasn't just tasting bread. I mixed soy sauce and sambal oelek chili paste for the sauce. So excited to have a new Banh Mi spot in the area! Initially, I was skeptical about this place having seen that their online menu appeared to be AI-generated, but we gave it a shot over the weekend and were very pleasantly surprised! In my opinion, the bread is really what makes a great Banh Mi, and this place did a decent job - crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. None of that Lee's Sandwiches BS lol. Wifey and I went on a Saturday around noon, and there appeared to be plenty of folks working hard behind the counter. It was a bit of a wait (about 20 mins), but they gave us a pager, and we just hung out in our car until our food was ready. We ordered two No. 1 sandwiches, the special combination with no daikon and no carrots. We also ordered a vermicelli bowl, and everything was incredibly tasty. I know they were running out of bread last week so I'm wondering if they started making it overnight and if that's why it wasn't that fresh? I was hoping for the bread to be warm. So after a month or so I was craving their amazing egg coffee. I was a little disappointed with my banh mi the first time but I figured id give it another chance since it was opening day. The egg coffee was already amazing the first time but somehow they made it even better. The egg foam on top was thicker and absolutely delicious. I had to make sure nobody was looking at me while attempting to get all the foamy goodness around each ice cube. IYKYK. I also ordered the cold cuts combo and an extra baguette on the side to taste the bread on its own. Happy to say the bread has improved a lot! The inside is softer this time and the bread was actually toasted. The bread went from a 3.4 to a solid 7.5 now. They also gave more meat but its still not quite enough for my big back appetite. 7.7 for the amount of meat given. I enjoyed the improvements so much that I went back the next 2 days and both times were consistently as good. Came for the grand opening! Was able to be one of the first in line and received a free drink from my scratcher. The sugar cane was very refreshing to my taste, came out very quick as I was waiting for my Crispy pork sandwich. I was really disappointed in this place. I love eating banh mi and had it all the time when I was living in SJ. I was so happy to have a place like this but when I tried it, it was just disappointing. The bread was so stale. It had a texture almost crumbled foam. There was not enough meat and it didn't taste fully cooked. I went on a Saturday evening, it wasn't busy at all. So I was hoping all the food would still be fresh. I was so mad/sad that I couldn't eat it bc of the stale bread and the meat. I don't think that people understand the difference between a soft opening vs a grand opening. They were very accommodating and made great suggestions as a first time customer, and they were very receptive when giving them feedback with their service and products. I ordered the grilled pork, grilled beef, Vietnamese meatball, crispy pork belly, and combination banh mi, along with a Thai Tea. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The proteins had great flavor, and the combination sandwich was a delicious mix of everything. I would say that they could add a little bit more pickled veggies, but that's only because its personally my favorite part of the sandwich lol. When we walked in, there was a really unpleasant smell inside--almost like walking into an aquarium or fish store. The staff was friendly and greeted us with smiles. My girlfriend and I ordered a few different sandwiches so we could try a variety of things. The prices seemed great at first, especially compared to what most places charge now, but once we got the food it made a little more sense. There was barely any meat on the sandwiches and they were mostly bread. We each tried a bite of the different ones we ordered, but unfortunately the flavors just weren't good. We even tried taking the sandwiches apart and eating just the small amount of protein inside, but we still couldn't finish them. I don't want anyone unfamiliar with bánh mì to think this is a good representation of what an authentic Vietnamese bánh mì should be. I've had bánh mì throughout Sacramento, San Jose, Orange County, and Vietnam, and the bread here was the biggest disappointment. The roll should have a light, airy interior with a thin, crisp exterior. Instead, this tasted and felt more like a soft French roll. The bread is such an integral part of the sandwich that they really need to master it. The pickled vegetables should be crisp, crunchy, and tangy. These were bland, sliced far too thin, and had no crunch whatsoever. The pâté was completely missing from my sandwich, and the mayo was strangely sweet--almost syrupy. I ordered the #10 crispy pork bánh mì. The best thing I can say is that the pork was, in fact, crispy. However, the sandwich was also missing the savory soy-based sauce that normally brings all the flavors together. Overall, it was an absolute disappointment. I genuinely hope this review reaches the owners and that they make the necessary changes because I would like to see this business succeed. We have gone a couple of times. One thing I liked the owner takes suggestions and improves the sandwiches. Now they added head cheese. Its perfect now. Comparable to san Jose and san Pablo banh mi shops. We have been eating banh mi for 20 years. So we know our banh mi. You cannot compare deli sandwich over flowing with corned beef to a banh mi. I don't like to give such low reviews, as it is their soft opening and I know they're still figuring things out, but man... the bread was horrendous. I grew up in SJ and will always compare Duc Huong to any banh mi I get and this place pales in comparison. The filling was okay and is the only reason why it's getting any stars at all. I would've loved if it had more meat though. It was stuffed with the pickled radish&carrots, but not enough meat! Anyway, my main complaint is the bread. I got a combination, grilled pork, grilled beef, and crispy pork. With all of them, the bread was hard as a rock and made such a crumbly mess. I get that people like a good crust on their bread, but I couldn't even take a proper bite. It ended up crumbling apart and by the end of it, things were falling out and I wasn't really able to eat the sandwich as a whole. As of right now, I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

First off, I will say the flavor is there, i appreciate the smear of pate for flavor, but that's where the positives end. There was any hardly any meat on the sandwiches and the so called "crispy pork" was not crispy at all and completely cold. The part that shocked me was there was hardly any vegetables or cilantro on it! usually this is where other places make up for the lack of meat with plenty of cilantro, cucumbers and other veggies but there was hardly any at all. 90% just bread. Been meaning to try this place out since they opened. Finally called in an order to go for the whole family. Got in, order was packed very neatly! Not just wrapped in paper and thrown in a bag. Each individually wrapped and can see each sandwich was cared for. Everyone dug into the sandwiches and it was delicious! The bread, meat, sauce.... it blended together great! Gotta say one of the best banh mi i have ever ate.
