Most pad thai are either $9 or $10+ Food: every thai place seems to have a different mix of pad thai sauce. This one in particular was wonderful. Personally it was a bit sweet but adding lime helped balance the flavor. The spring rolls were fried and were vegetarian. This place is vegan/vegetarian friendly which is a plus! Service: this is why this place deserves 5 stars-- the service is outstanding. The owner made a mistake because over the phone he said I can get spring roll & a soup with my meal to go. When I got there, he sincerely apologized and went out of his way to explain his mistake (which I didn't find to be too much I didn't really mind it at all) and told me my lunch to go only comes with spring rolls. We went In For lunch with my infant twins and were seated quickly and in a spot where we could manage the kids without getting in the way or bumping into anything. The food came quickly and was pretty good overall. I had the pad Thai because everyone raved about it. It was a solid pad Thai but no better than you can find elsewhere in Gainesville. Everything came quickly, and we were able to manage the kids without any environmental issues so A+ to the servers and restaurant layout. My wife and I have been to many Thai restaurants but this one was a standout. Service is attentive, and quick. Decor is good but it's the food that really matters. My wife's crispy eggplant with vegetables was out of this world fresh and savory sauce I will get it next time. My entree the pad Thai with wide rice noodles and chicken was solid choice. Bangkok Square is a fabulous little authentic Thai restaurant in SW Gainesville. It's got plenty of parking, fast, friendly service and the food tastes extremely fresh. We went in on Easter Sunday, not expecting for anything to be open, and were pleasantly surprised to see that Bangkok Square was not only open but about half full. We'd heard good things and were excited to try it. We were shown to a table right away, and got waters immediately. Our server came over with menus and a short beer list. We both ordered the Kirin Ichiban on her recommendation, and started with vegetarian spring rolls. They were crispy and fresh and the dipping sauce was delicious! My fiance got a curry and I got a stir fry veggie and steamed tofu dish. The medium spice was perfect, mild wasn't spicy whatsoever so I wouldn't recommend that if you want just a hint of spice. The menu was plenty big and there were choices for everyone from what I could see. They cater to vegetarians and I'm sure you can find something vegan there if you need it. The bill was super reasonable, less than $30 for two entrees, and appetizer and two beers after tip. We'll definitely be back, thank you for an excellent experience! read more

The display for the food is always well done. The proportions however don't fit very well. It's a lot of the main entree but the side dishes are very small compared to the plate so I always have to ask for more. I got the crispy duck sautéed in garlic and black pepper sauce, and the sauce was very overpowering. It drenched the duck and made everything very soft. The crispy duck was no longer crispy at all. One of my go to restaurants in Gainesville. If you love great value food or are a broke college student this might be the place for you! Their lunch deals are amazing, as low as $7. You get an appetizer, entree, and small coconut ice cream. I usually get the chicken pineapple fried rice ($7.95). For some extra flavor, use your spring roll sauce or steal some of your friend's sauce if they order a curry of some sort (sorry friend). Tastes great without it too! I really wanted to like this place because we live right around the corner and we want to support businesses on this side of town. Sadly, after dining in and ordering takeout I can't recommend it. The ambiance is nice and the service is quick. The food is quite good...I've really enjoyed the massaman curry and pad see ew. My biggest complaint is portion size is so small and doesn't justify the fairly high price. Went here the other night when we found the place that we wanted to go has changed their hours. :( However, this has been on our list of places to try for a while now, so it was a great alternative, and we were pleasantly surprised! With the loss of Tim's Thai over on 23rd a couple of years ago (due to retirement) Gainesville has been sorely lacking a good Thai restaurant. It is lacking no longer. The interior is pleasant, and seating is easily re-arrangable for larger groups if the case arises. We were seating immediately even though we were a group of five. I ordered the tom yum soup as a starter, and enjoyed it immensely. There is better in town, but it is a soup that is hard to find in the first place, so the fact that they had it at all is happiness for my stomach. They use button mushrooms in their tom yum soup instead of straw mushrooms, which was a difference, and I thought it could be spicier, but I enjoyed it anyway. Another appetizer that was ordered that I tried was the dumplings. They are done a bit differently here, and instead of the usual steaming they are fried. The crispiness of the dumplings added a different texture that I enjoyed. Certainly worth ordering again. For my main course I had the red curry chicken. I ordered it hot hot hot, but I know that because I am a white guy they don't think I can handle the heat. I really do try to make it a challenge for them to make me cry... what came out was something that I consider to be a medium in the heat range. Tasty, mind you, but a medium. The look on our servers face when I informed him of this was amusing to me, as he rushed in back to get a nice four-bottle set of spicy sauces that I could use to kick it up a notch. None of them really did the trick either, but they were really nice to taste. I really did enjoy the curry, and will be happy to raise my rating to a five star if they can ever get it hot enough for me to actually cry. Yes, this is what I am going to base my fifth star on. The price range here is certainly reasonable, though a couple of people in my group got a bit of shell shock when they saw the prices on the first page hitting the $40+ mark. Not to worry, everything else falls down into the $11-15 range for mains, and appetizers under the $10 mark, which for Gainesville is perfectly reasonable. One of my favorite restaraunts in Gainesville, if not my favorite. Highly recommend if you're craving Asian or Thai cuisine. I would give 5 stars if the dinner was better than their lunch special but honestly, I only recommend their lunch specials. The dinner portion size seemed the same as their lunch's despite no free appetizer, dessert, and an increased dinner price. (Still confused as to why.) The atmosphere is a mixture between intimate/refined and casual/homey depending on the time of day and how crowded the place is. Now the juicy bit, their lunch special ranges from about $8-13 depending on which meat you choose for your entrée. The lunch special includes: an appetizer of a small eggroll and a bowl of soup (usually a light and clean spinach/chicken broth), an entrée of your choice, (usually get the crispy duck with black pepper sauce and medium heat because there's just not enough duck in Gainesville to satisfy my ducking needs.) And a dessert (usually coconut icecream). I've been here over a dozen times and their food has been consistently great quality. The service is prompt and quick, no unnecessary interactions -- although if you enjoy a good conversation with your waiter/waitress then you might find it hurried and perhaps rude from the owners mannerism of taking orders. read more

Got take-out consisting of two lunch entreés, one chicken and shrimp with their "Amazing" peanut sauce, the other with green curry sauce prepared so spicy as to make a "normal" personal physically uncomfortable. Their lunch menu says soup is unavailable for carry out for whatever reason, but my persuasive wife managed to talk them into including some of their Thai basil soup. Each had two decent-sized shrimp and white-meat chicken for protein, with veggies in the mix and a notoriously small spring roll plus sweet duck-style dipping sauce. The food is on point. The menu is vast and there's definitely something for everyone. They recently updated their menus with Gluten Free, Vegetarian and Vegan options clearly marked. Even prior to the update they always accommodated all of vegan modifications and never gave me any jive about it. I usually order one of the Macrobiotic meals with fresh rolls and veggie egg rolls to start. My husband's go to is the Green Curry Chicken -he loves it! I've been going here for few years now. Quality has been going down for the last 6 months or so. Not sure, what's the deal. It hit rock bottom last time, when they served us cold food, barely warm. Service was very slow, but the food was delicious. I am a taster, if you go to eat with me, I'll probably sneak a taste of your food. I had the Shrimp & Chicken Golden Cashew Nut Sautéed. The portion was just right. The broth was perfectly balanced and the chicken and shrimp were cooked tender. Crispy vegetables and the meal came with a bowl of soup and egg roll. At the end of the meal they bring a little cup of coconut ice cream to cleanse your pallet. Yum. My co-workers got 1) Maangan Curry and 2) Crispy Duck Pad Thai. Bangkok Square is among a handful of Thai restaurants in Gainesville that have opened up recently, and is currently sitting comfortably ahead of their competition in terms of food quality, service, and atmosphere. They are located down Archer Road in the same plaza as Beef 'O' Brady's. The atmosphere here is relaxed, clean, and very comfortable. I love having the pillows in the booths, though I suspect they'll have to be replaced frequently. The atmosphere is nice enough to be a good date spot. From both of our visits the service has been prompt, and the kitchen has been quick to get the food out. As you can gather I'd be quick to recommend the Bangkok duck, although it's on the pricier end of their menu at around $20. The Yum duck salad is a cheaper and healthier alternative that can also scratch that kind of itch. Their chicken pad Thai is very enjoyable, but not smile-inducing like the duck. The chicken fried rice, while not bad, lacked any defining characteristics. All of their fried appetizers (go for the variety plate) were good, especially the curry puffs. There! I've been here multiple times now and I almost always get massaman curry or the pad Thai. I would recommend only going for lunch because it's more worth for the lunch special. Lunch special comes with a spring roll and soup starter, your entree, and then a mini coconut ice cream dessert. I ordered egg rolls and spring rolls as appetizers, and then Chicken Pad Thai and beef in awesome sauce for entrees. Everything was very good! The spring rolls were much better than the egg rolls as appetizers. For the entrees, I preferred the pad Thai over the beef in awesome sauce. I asked for medium spicy on both dishes and it wasn't that spicy so if you like spicy food, keep that in mind when ordering. I love eating at Bangkok Square, especially for lunch. Their lunch menu has a lot of options at reasonable prices. Every lunch entree also comes with a vegetarian egg roll and soup. I really enjoy the soup because it's very simple and refreshing, with a sweet touch to it. The soup that it comes with isn't vegetarian because it has chicken. If you are vegetarian, you can get two egg rolls instead! The employees are wonderful in that they take into consideration dietary restrictions. The portions are filling and delicious. I usually order the Panang curry, which is their most popular curry. However, I've also tried the Green curry which is now my favorite. My boyfriend loves eating the Ladnar, which he recommends as well. After the meal, we ate a small serving of ice cream that comes with the meal. Usually it is either coconut or green tea flavor. It would be a nice place to take someone on a date. I ordered their Tom Kha soup (my go-to anytime I try a new Thai place) and I thought it was pretty decent - I've definitely had better. Their Pad Kee Mao (drunk noodles) with tofu was very delicious. Their homemade coconut ice cream comes in a decent-sized dish bowl (can easily split between two people) and yummy - you can even taste the shredded coconut in it. Their lunch specials and prices are one of the best in Gainesville, which is why my boyfriend and I frequent this place so often. This recent time we went and ordered more than usual because I wanted to try some new things. We got the steamed pork dumplings, pan fried dumplings and crab ran goons for appetizers. Then we decided to get something from their daily specials, which was their soft shell crab - it comes with either a basil sauce and a garlic sauce (we asked for both). Then for dessert, we got suman (which is a warm rice cake) with mangos. Everything was so flavorful and delicious that I have nothing to complain about. You have to try it all! The service was great - it seems as though it's family run. Our waitress was so knowledgeable and attentive to us. The atmosphere is also very relaxing and designed well. This place is outstanding! I had pretty high expectations to begin with, yet they were all surpassed. We were greeted as soon as we walked in, and seated almost immediately, at a nice corner booth. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. We each ordered an appetizer, and they came out to us within minutes. Our empty dishes were removed promptly, and our water glasses were always filled. I ordered the Green Curry w/ chicken at maximum spiciness (Thai hot), and it was absolutely superb. The sauce was pleasantly spicy and slightly sweet, with crispy vegetables and tender chicken. I only waited about 5 minutes for my order to come out. When I got to chow on it, I was introduced to a very hot delcious peanut infused Thai dish.
