I liked everything about my first visit from the decor, service, menu to the food. I ordered the Bangkok duck. Crispy duck with vegetables in a light ginger sauce. I ordered a brown rice upgrade for $2 more (stiff). They brought white by mistake but swiftly switched it after I said something. It was really delicious. A little pricey but a good sized portion. It comes with a salad. It was a little burnt either by the dressing or it was frozen. I think they make these up ahead and put them in the chiller. Tasted good but they need to take care of this. I was in town and met a friend for dinner-I excited that there was a Thai place near Tower Road. The ambiance is nice and the decor is new. For me, that is where the positives ended. We were seated in a cramped section of the restaurant where waiters and waitresses bumped in to me every time they passed by. I ordered the chicken pad Thai and my friend ordered the tofu fried rice. Although we ordered at the same time, her dish came out about ten minutes before mine did. When my food came out, there was no spice at all to the pad Thai. The sauce was very limited, which made the overall dish taste very bland. There was no spice to the food, and they didn't ask me what level I wanted when I ordered, which surprised me. I asked for a spice rack to compensate. I asked for a lime to flavor my food. The waitress came back and tossed a lemon in my diet coke. I looked at her and repeated my request for a lime for my food. She came back with a small dish full of a liquid. I asked her what is was and she told me it was lime juice. I expected an actual lime wedge, but at that point I was kind of over the whole dinner. The waitress was nonexistent most of the dinner, and we had to wait repeatedly to have our drinks refilled. I'm sure they are "working out the kinks" because they are new, but I was pretty disappointed with my flavorless dinner and the slow service. I love Thai food, but this just wasn't very good. I love Bangkok Square and especially for lunch. Moving to Gainesville, I was worried that my foodie niche would fade away into the dark abyss of bad small town food but boy was I wrong. This is definitely not the best Thai food I've ever had but it's definitely the best you can get in Gainesville! It's so delicious. I love the Green Curry. It's amazing and I love how you can pick the level of hot you want your dish to be. My favorite thing about this meal is the entirety of it. Bangkok Square blew us away! We came in around 8:30 and needed to be finished by 9pm. We were given incredible recommendations and quick and attentive service right off the bat. I LOVE Bangkok square! This is my favorite Thai in Gainesville. Food: Let's be honest - I'm basic, but so are a lot of people. I really love the Pad Thai with chicken (I order hot because I like it pretty spicy, and medium wasn't enough for me). I also love the spicy basil fried rice with chicken. My husband orders Pad Kee Mao which has yummy noodles and a more savory sauce. Service: Service is excellent!!! We've gone 5+ times so far and have always had a wonderful experience. My friend and I were both pleasantly surprised by this place. I was craving Thai so we checked out this place. Seriously the best Asian food I have had in Gainesville so far with amazing service. The decor was beautiful and very serene. We joked that we could fall asleep. They gave us a nice booth in the corner, which was exactly what we wanted. We opened the menu and were very pleased with the prices. Only $8 to $10 for lunch! We thought were just going to get the lunch entree but it came with this delicious house soup (thought it was miso soup at first but it isn't), a crispy spring roll with dipping sauce and house-made coconut ice cream for dessert! They gave us a ton of food and let me tell you: this place was faster than fast food! The appetizers came out immediately after ordering and they were very hot as if just cooked. Then the main dishes came out so fast we had barely gone through the appetizers. The presentation was lovely and the sauces were all cooked to the perfect level of thickness. The dishes were extremely flavorful and they gave lots of protein. They also gave little carrot flowers. The one thing we both noticed though, were how well the vegetables were cooked. Not overcooked to undercooked and perfectly salted. Praises to the chef. The most impressive thing for us was the service. These waitresses would have taken the shirts off their backs for you. My waitress even went as far as tying up my to go bag in a cute way for me even though I was going to just take it. She insisted. Another waitress I observed was serving an elderly couple and she was incredibly patient with them and spent a lot of time explaining the dishes and answering the questions. This place had a lovely warm feel to it despite its large area. My friend and I both hadn't tried this place before and it had amazing reviews. We shared crab rangoons for an appetizer and I frankly did not like them. When it came time to order the main dish, I had a tough time selecting one thing because they offer plenty of different options that all sounded very good. I ended up getting the pork in the basil sauce and it tasted amazingly. I also tried my friend's food which was chicken in sweet and sour sauce and that was very good for those of you that prefer their main dish to be more on the sweet side. We did not try their desserts because we were too full; their portions are quite big. The service was good and it was surprisingly moderately busy for a Tuesday night. My advice to you if you go to this place for the first time: go straight to the main dish and then get dessert because their dessert options seemed much more appealing than the appetizers. We had been traveling all day and found this place close to our hotel. Even though they were very busy on a Saturday night, they seated us quickly and took our order in a timely manor. Everyone was very friendly! We love our Thia food and we're excited to try two of our favorite dishes they had on their menu. Ground chicken in a brown basil sauce and pad kee Moa. Wow!! Until 3PM they have lunch specials that range from $8-13 with a variety to choose from such as Pad Thai, various curries, fried rice and various noodle dishes. I came here recently for their lunch special, a chicken and shrimp and Thai. It was 9.95 and was a pretty big portion for lunch. Lunch specials come with their soup for the day, an egg roll, and ice cream at the end! I asked for my pad Thai to be mild in spice but it was more sweet than spicy. Also, their pad thai noodles are a lot thinner than regular pad Thai noodles. Regardless, I really enjoyed my dish and you can't beat the price! My review is solely based on their lunch deals but would love to come back for one of their dinner entrees and items. There was a sign up sheet set up at the front of the restaurant where we could write our name and the number of people in our party. 5 minutes later our party was called and we were sitting in a very comfortable booth. Bangkok Square's cozy and welcoming atmosphere inside really stood out to me. It felt very homey and warm. I ordered the chicken basil sauce. The flavor was great. The downside was there was absolutely NO spice. And I definitely asked for spice. Also, the portions were pretty small compared to what I usually get at other thai restaurants. As my entrée, I ordered the Panang Shrimp Curry $15.95 dinner portion served with rice - brought out on a plate in a star shape, clever detail Bangkok. The same meal for lunch is $8.95. Ample serving size for dinner portion, large shrimp throughout. Very tasty dish! The Panang sauce is made with coconut milk, bell peppers, zucchini and chopped peanuts. I ordered this with medium heat but avail in mild too or even much spicier if you like that. This is just one of the 5 or more curry sauces you can choose from. It was very good. Solid 4 stars. Inside has very nice decor. We went at lunch to get the lunch time menu. Menu choices were good. Prices were around $8-9 per plate. Service size was a little on the smaller side. But for lunch it worked. Soup and a small fried spring roll were served as part of the order. We ordered the Gyoza dumplings. Next time we'll get the steamed. They were just ok. Service was a little slow as they are just getting their act together. But not to bad. The new staff are rude and condescending; they lack attentive detail to customers basic needs. As a long term customer we have been applauded and astonished by the repugnant sniping noticed this in the decline in hospitality. We have been rushed out of the restaurant at the precise time of closing, had the check tray slammed on the table, and water glasses refused to be refilled. On another occasion showed up at opening time for dinner the staff refused to open the door to be seated in a timely manner. Yet another occasion at the same 39th location, was served by a condescending, sarcastic server who could care a less. I came here with 5 other people for lunch on a Friday and all I can say is, wow. This is one of the best Thai places I've ever been to, with great prices. Bangkok Square has lunch specials that average around $8-9 that include the soup of the day, an eggroll, and steamed white rice. I love Thai food and so do all my friends, so we went a little crazy with the appetizers and kind of ordered practically the whole appetizer menu and split them all. We got spring rolls, steamed dumplings, crab rangoons, curry puffs, and potstickers. Out of all of them, my favorite were the potstickers, hands down. They were perfectly pan-fried and came with a delicious sauce! Not gonna lie, I've had dreams about these potstickers and am coming back for them! I also ordered a Thai tea. This might sound silly, but I judge Thai places on how good their Thai tea is, and Bangkok Square did not disappoint! It was a great balance between the tea and the condensed milk, and when the Thai tea is good, you KNOW the restaurant is too. For my main entree, I ordered the chicken pad thai - another basic dish that I also use to judge the quality of the food aaaaand it was another hit! Bangkok square is a perfect place for lunches with many choices and free coconut ice cream. However, its dinner regular menu is a bit overpriced compared with its lunch. The very first time we dined in there we ordered the specials on the front pages and that dinner (just two entrees) cost us over 60 bucks. We thought wow! The food is nice but the portion is definitely too big for us! However we don't have the habit to take dog food home. Later we found that it offers fantastic lunch specials. Although there are not so many choices as the dinner menus, yet we tried pad eggplant and pad Thai on lunch menus there. It was only 19 dollars with a complimentary appetizer (one spring roll and a spinach soup) , 1/3 of the price of our expensive dinner. You get to pick the meats and basically get it cooked however style you want: pad thai, basil, soup, etc. It comes with a soup of the day and a spring roll.
