You would never know there was a lovely hidden gem located in this strip mall in Johnston, but that's exactly what this Thai restaurant is. I found a great offer on Groupon and met my sister there around 5 pm. I was surprised to see what a nice interior this restaurant had. There were only a couple customers at this time and we took a seat at the bar. I ordered one of their Asian beers and we started looking through the menu. The very nice bartender told us about the popular dishes and we took his advice and were not disappointed. We sampled the soft spring rolls, crab rangoons, Kow Piek, and Tom Yum soup. What a lovely little spot in this strip mall. Nice and clean and bright. We ordered over the phone for pickup. I had trouble finding a good menu online from which to order. So many take out menus now are through a delivery company and are not what you would get or pay for at the restaurant. We were looking for a combination plate and it was listed on the menu that we saw online but it didn't say what was included. So I finally ended up calling the restaurant to ask about it and told them that I was having trouble finding a menu to order from. The woman who answered the phone and helped me was very nice and very helpful. She said that there was some slight problem with the menu online but she was more than willing to help us and to take our order. I told her that we were interested in a combination plate and she described them as the different kinds of meats that you could get: chicken, beef, shrimp etc. You could also choose a sauce that would come on the meat and vegetables. The sauces were different depths of spiciness and she was very helpful to make sure that we got what we would like the best. We also had a choice of white or brown rice or sticky rice which was nice. We got there about 15 minutes after we had ordered and Mike went into the restaurant and it was almost ready. He just had to wait a couple of minutes. We drove in the parking lot which was very spacious and parked right in front of the store. We also ordered some sticky wings and we brought everything home to eat. The sticky wings were excellent because they were kind of sweet and kind of spicy. Mike got the beef combination plate with vegetables that was not very spicy and he enjoyed it. I ordered a medium spice combination dish with chicken. My choices were ginger or basil sauce and I asked the woman to make the decision for me because they both sounded so good. I think I got the basil. Mine was good but not really highly seasoned. I thought there would be more flavor to it. It was good but not great. We got a nice portion of each lunch combo and there were 6 wings in the order. Just enough for lunch. Located at the corner end of a strip of places including Luigi's - I'm thinking parking can get packed on busy nights. First time I ordered Thai mini rolls, papaya salad (Laos style) and Larb Gai. Everything was good. They didn't ask how spicy I wanted the papaya salad - man it was sa-sa-sa-picy but oh so good! This led me to wanting to come back. This time for dine in - we ordered Thai mini rolls, papaya salad, wings and Lad Na (wide rice noodles w/ your choice of meat in a soy sauce gravy). We asked the papaya salad to be mild - we should've asked for spicier. Flavor was good but papaya salad is always better spicy. Wings and rolls were good - nice hot and crispy! The lad na was good but there was what looked like little beans in the dish that I could've done without - had to pick hose little suckers off. Other than that, everything was delicious. Recently, I visited this local spot with my grandson because we had a Groupon. It was a week night, so it wasn't crowded. It's located in a strip mall, so there is parking. We were greeted and seated immediately. The place is small but nicely appointed and decorated. My only criticism is that the upholstery on the bench seats, which run along the entire side wall, are in need of repair. There were cracks and tears all along them. Otherwise, it was pristine. Since I was dining with a youth, we ordered the crispy chicken tenders for an appetizer. They were surprisingly good: Nice, moist white meat with a crunchy coating. I also had a bowl of Tom Yum soup with shrimp. The ingredients were as fresh as I've ever had. The mushrooms could have been garden picked minutes before and I swear the shrimp were swimming in the ocean when I arrived. Well done! For dinner, we decided on the House chicken fried rice and the chicken pad Thai. Both were very good. Again, the chicken was freshly made and appeared to have been hand torn from the bone instead of the often uniform little chunks that appear in many restaurant dishes. The servings were ample enough that we had doggy bags, including all but the soup. Since it wasn't terribly busy, the bartender assisted the only waitress on duty by delivering drinks as well as food when needed. The service was excellent and friendly. Celebrating Lunar New Year with my family and decided to venture out for takeout tonight. I've been on a spicy kick lately and I decided to try this restaurant and I'm glad I did! I was in a pinch and ordered from Bangkok republic after seeing their online Groupon deal! I had heard from a friend that is was a great place for takeout and figured I'd give them a try on a snow day. What a gem! I placed an order for their drunken noodles and khao soi. Drunken noodles are my literal favorite - and they did not disappoint. A little sweet, a little spicy and an all around winner. My boyfriend noticed that he'd never seen green beans in drunken noodles before but I was unfazed and continued nomming away. If you've never had khao soi try it here! It's a coconut curry dish that I've only ever seen at one other place in RI. Bangkok Republic's khao soi was a little sweeter, but still savory enough for the chicken and noodles that typically accompany the dish. I definitely plan on keeping their menu on my list of favorites and will try some of their other dishes soon! read more

This is THE BEST Southeast Asian food. They have the best papaya in the state - not too salty, not too sweet, not too fishy, just right. Finally they opened! I have been waiting to check this place out ever since the sign was put up! I met Lena, Brendan and Valentina friendly and very knowledgeable staff willing to answer any questions I had about the menu and restaurant! They made me feel welcome as if we had all met before and were friends. My first impression of the place was that the aesthetics were very nice and a pretty cool bar which I sat at while I ordered and waited for my takeout food! I ordered a dirty martini which was made perfectly and I got a sample of their famous "Grandpas medicine" which is a vodka and herbs infused drink. It was interestingly unique and very good! Worth a try! I ordered the Thai soft spring rolls, Laab Gai ( my favorite!) basil fried rice and I asked to be surprised by my curry choice but I believe I got the green curry which ended up being delectable! These guys know what they are doing for sure and I couldn't believe they were in the first week of opening with the flawless service. So I had a Groupon and was excited to try a new Thai place with my mom and little one. We went for lunch and we were the only ones there, the server was very nice, the place is pretty nice from a decor perspective but looks as though they need a bit of maintenance (booth cushions were ripped) and there were some annoying fruit flies both in the restaurant and bathrooms but other than that it was clean. The food was good and we had the appetizer sampler, edamame, Bangkok fried rice and duck pad Thai. The Duck pad Thai was delicious and I can't recall having duck so tasty from similar restaurants. They also had jasmine tea which was really nice on a winter day. We concluded with a chocolate fried ice cream which my daughter enjoyed very much. One of my favorite Thai restaurants to date! Lina and the staff are very welcoming and makes you feel right at home. It's a small Thai restaurant with a very modern look. Being of similar background, I'm very picky and prefer the taste of home cooking and Bangkok Republik doesn't disappoint! The presentation and authenticity of their food are praise-worthy. My friends and I decided to order and eat family style, in which we order appetizers and entrees to share altogether. My favorite appetizers to start with are the Brussels Sprouts (definitely my favorite), Chicken Wings, and Crab Rangoons. We also ordered Papaya Salad (Laos style, which is a bit spicier and comes with no peanuts). I usually eat it with chicken wings because honestly those two combinations never fail. You can eat it with sticky rice, but I don't. I like the spiciness. For our entree, we ordered the Crispy Red Snapper. It is limited, but we got lucky! It's so flavorful and definitely filled the four us up quite nicely (just be careful with the bones!) Definitely ask for it if it's available. I was delighted to see that they had Krapow Chicken, a familiar dish that I've enjoyed several times in Boston.
