After my niece's graduation ceremony at GMU, I met her at à restaurant called Bangkok Golden which was located at University Mall. There were multiple eateries, plenty of parking but it was hidden from the parking lot in à alley in between The Halal Guys and Regency Cleaners. As you walked in, the restaurant is clean with a modern style look and with comfortable seatings. There were 8 items order: 1) Green Curry 2) Som Tum 3) Shrimp and Broccoli 4) Beef Pad Thai 5) Drunken Noodles 6) Sun-Dried Beef 7) Beef Salad 8) Bangkok Noodles. All the dishes that arrive to the table were delicious and on point. Each dish had their own unique flavor, taste, texture and filled umami. We had excellent service from all staff members especially Fiona ànd Julie. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely make another visit to try other items on their menu. read more

Casual Thai restaurant at University Mall with fast, friendly and polite service. Parking can be hard to find along with the restaurant on the other side of the Giant. We order a bean thread vermicelli soup which was a good alternative if you don't want something sour and spicy along with the Bangkok Fried Rice. Seafood stir fry #45 had more spices which balanced everything out. Prices are reasonable compared to other Thai restaurants where prices have all gone up. read more

I've come to this place many times but this is the first time I'm reviewing it. This place is cozy and that but is clean and they have a TV showing the Olympics so I liked that. The food here is pretty good. I got the pad se ew and chicken satay for appetizer. My friend who's never had Thai food before went pretty basic with their Bangkok fried rice and spring roll. The satay was great. Well cooked. Good sauces. They also gave you a good portion. The spring roll however was bland and we only ate two of the three pieces. The pad se ew pork was delicious but the fried rice was just average. Overall it was a good meal and I'll probably go back just because I live very close to this place. read more

I haven't been here in years. It looks like they got a new name and a new door that leads directly to the restaurant. Great Thai food. Ambiance is just okay; keep in mind it's in a strip mall across from GMU. My only complaint was that food trickles out instead of being served all at once, but my friend did say it's better than food coming out all at once really late. I agreed. Food today- Pad kra pao (tofu): a little salty but it's meant to be eaten with rice. It had a kick. Delicious! Pad Thai was on the sweeter side and needed the squeeze of lime. Drunken noodles looked paler than what I'm used to, but it tasted delicious. Thai tea is so yum because it's not overly sweet; they come out in these huge take out containers. Would come here again! Got to say nice spot to take a lady to. Good staff here. Very friendly and easy going. It isn't east to find service like this. Inside the decor is quite relaxing. Came for lunch on a Saturday and was pleased with the menu offerings. Cute restaurant decor, friendly staff, and comfortable environment made the lunch worthwhile. I ordered the drunken noodle, which is described as a dry lo-mein (though I may argue this not a lomein) with beef, chicken, and shrimp. Upon request I was given condiments, of which I added chili powder. My daughter ordered a wonton soup. The large was a good size that came with large shrimp wontons and some lettuce. The soup itself was unremarkable and we did not drink it. The pad Thai came with shrimp and was very sweet. I wish the sprouts had been blanched. Finally everything would've tasted better with Sri racha imo but maybe I just prefer things spicier rather than sweet and sour. read more

Second time trying Bangkok golden today (6/12/24). First time was pre-Covid, but I did remember saying it was good back then. Total today was $45.43 prior to tip for Bangkok fried rice, drunken noodles and satay pork. I came around 4:45 for an early dinner. There weren't too many customers so it was nice and quiet. The staff were super friendly. Once the order went to the kitchen, I could hear the grilling and wok noise. I knew I was in for a treat. The satay came out first. It was a bit dry but it paired well with the peanut sauce and the other sweet sauce. The entrees smelled absolutely amazing. Visually, the drunken noodles looked pale, but the flavors were all there and it was perfectly seasoned. The fried rice came with beef, shrimp and chicken I think and it was a filling dish. Bangkok Golden never disappoints. I have only been to the oxon hill location and I went to this because my friend told me about it. I'm glad I did cause this place is waaay closer. It is tucked away near Giant but there is a lot of parking. The service is really great. Everyone is nice and the food comes out really fast. There is plenty of seating. I got the drunken noodles. The char was so good and added a lot of flavor! It wasn't that spicy but had a little kick. My friend got the red duck curry which was super flavorful and the duck was tender. Favorite Thai restaurant of all time! I have referred so many of my Thai food lovers here. I've been a loyal and consistent customer for years now and have never been disappointed. Everything from the curry puffs and tod mun to start off with is always a hit! Their pad Thai is truly elite and I've had a lot of pad Thai in my lifetime. My husband and I went to this restaurant before attending an event at the EagleBank arena. It is located in a strip mall tucked away. It is small not really suitable for large groups. Good for date night or dinner with friends. The menu has a good variety of food. We ordered the wonton soup, spring rolls for appetizers and pad Thai and friend rice for dinner. All were nice portions and tasty. The service was good. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable. No bar on site. I would visit again if I am in the area. read more

BEWARE: Was visiting for a friends birthday and ordered Pad Thai. Told them from the beginning that I was vegan and they brought out the wrong dish. When they finally brought me the right dish there was egg in my food. Once again, I reminded them that I was vegan and that I was not able to eat the Pad Thai. I asked the lady to make me a new one free from animal products and she said ok. There was a little bit of a language barrier but from what I understood I was going to get a new plate. 30 mins go by, note that everyone else is eating, and I have yet to get my food. I asked the server about it and she told me that they could not make me another plate because " sorry, the kitchen is closed". At that point, I ask to speak to a manager. The woman's response " I am the manager" which neither I nor my friends believed. Personally we felt the manager was not at the restaurant and that might just be something that they say when there is no manager. What made this worse is that I saw our server take an order of another couple a table over AFTER she told me that the kitchen was closed. That night, I watch my friends eat and went home hungry because the restaurant had chosen to not serve me. The reason why is unknown, regardless I have never been treaded so badly at a restaurant before. Never again. #THEWORST read more

My family ordered delivery the other evening and was really impressed with the quality and quantity of food. We ordered: 1 Tom Yum soup with shrimp, 1 tom yum soup with chicken, chicken fried rice, and country style curry. The County style curry (Traditional country style curry (without coconut milk) with eggplant, bamboo shoot, string bean, and fresh chili pepper.) was quite spicy, which I enjoyed. I did not get to eat it until the next day however, because of the tom yum! I ordered a small which was actually rather large. It was packed with chicken and mushrooms. I loved the limey taste to it. My stepdaughter enjoyed the chicken fried rice too. Prices were quite reasonable! We love Thai food and will definitely add Bangkok Golden to our rotation for delivery! read more

Panang curry: something about this tastes like comfort /home to me for some reason Spring rolls: great Curry puff: also great Soup: they have the only wonton soup I like, but the actual wontons are super over-cooked. Unclear if that's a commute issue, but I asked for the wonton separate once and it was still overcooked so I just ask for them omitted or remove them and have the broth. When I think about Thai food I think about bold flavor. This is especially true with something saucy and rich like a curry or Drunken Noodles. But it's also typically the case for dishes that aren't as sauce-forward like a Pad Thai or a fried rice dish, due to varying levels of spices, heat, herbs, and acidic components. Yet Bangkok Golden managed to serve me a completely flavorless dish, my least favorite of 2020 thus far. A few quick disclosures: this was my first trip to the restaurant, I ordered the meal for take-out, and I only had one dish (though I also had a couple of bites of my wife's Red Curry, which she greatly disliked). I make those things clear because it is possible that if I would have dined-in and ordered anything else, things could have turned out just fine. But I have serious doubts. The Bangkok Fried Rice features chicken, steak, shrimp, egg, onion, carrot, and tomato. It's ambitious on paper but sounds like a solid triple to me if executed properly. It was not. The globs of rice tasted like nothing but rice that had been sitting in the rice cooker for too long. The egg was overcooked and subtracted from the dish. The meats were tough and unseasoned. I needed basil. I needed lime. Though I did not specify that I wanted a spicy dish, I needed some degree of heat. I don't like wasting food and almost always eat what is on my plate, but in this case I managed to eat about 1/3 of this dish before sending it to the trash. With so much great Thai food in Northern VA and even in Fairfax alone, it's hard to envision giving Bangkok Golden another try anytime soon. read more

My friend and I came here for lunch TODAY. My friend recommended a great Thai place near GMU and we came around 12:15 pm. When we walked in it wasn't busy at all and a lady had sat us down at a table next to a group of older ladies. First...5 stars for the food. It tasted great yet small portions because it was the lunch menu. Would have ordered a lot more food but then this happened. First off the gentleman who took our order was super nice and friendly! 5 stars for him! We had asked to keep one menu and he said okay. The lady who had seated us came back with our drinks and sort of slammed some plates down on the empty space on the table. When she came back she told us to give the menu back, didn't ask she demanded. As we were enjoying our meal (not even halfway through) the same lady had just placed the check on our table, didn't say a word just left it. She then proceeded to go the table next to us (the lovely old ladies) and asked them how their meal was going. Nobody came to check on us or at all. My friend had also said she liked their fried banana dessert with vanilla ice cream and I was excited to try it. We were also still hungry and wanted to order more but we got the message when the lady dropped off the check. Even though we were still hungry we paid for our meals and went next door to a coffee shop and had a sandwich there. Over all I think the food was incredible. Service was definitely a miss this time. It's been almost a year since I came here but the front counter lady remembered me right away when I visited few days ago. Absolutely love friendly Thai staff here. I only tried a few dishes in the past but my most favorite thing here has to be Fried Chicken Noodle or Kua Gai in Thai which is stir-fry wide flat rice noodles with chicken, squids and egg, seasoned with savory Thai soy sauce on a bed of lettuce. The key to this dish is cooking it over extreme high heat so that the noodles take on a rich, smokey, charred flavor. It's a difficult challenge to find "authentic" Kua Gai in Northern Virginia just because most Thai restaurants tends to cater Americanized overly sweet taste. Thai's Corner, Tara Thai are the perfect example of inedible sugary Thai food. This place know exactly how to make authentic Kua Gai. The noodles are perfectly cooked along with smoky charred flavor and perfectly seasoned (salty and very slightly sweet). Also you can ask for chili sauce on the side, it's the classic way to eat this dish. Coming from Arlington to Bangkok Golden sure enough a bit far but it was worth the drive. Even the staff here were surprised to see me coming all the way just for this noodle dish. read more

Friendly staff and a calm, casual ambiance make me a fan of Bangkok Golden! I came here recently with a friend and her baby, and they were very accommodating with a high chair, as well as seemingly charmed by the baby which is always very nice (to feel like your kiddo is welcome vs. just tolerated, haha!) We shared the spring rolls and chicken satay to start, and then I got the panang curry with shrimp. Shrimp still had their tails on, which was fine but just a little bit inconvenient in terms of eating. The panang curry was SPICY! In a good way, of course, but just be forewarned if you're a little sensitive to spice. We also got some surprise complimentary tom yung soup to start our meals, which was a really nice touch. The only negative is not so much for the restaurant itself, but for University Mall in general, and that has to do with parking availability. Depending on the time of day, you might find yourself having to circle the parking lot a few times before you can snag a spot. I look forward to dining here again in the future! read more

BEST SPRING ROLLS IN THE DMV- This place is the best hidden gem in fairfax. The food is always fresh and whenever I have decide to go in the service has been excellent. Bangkok has some of the best thai food I have had in the DMV. They have a menu with many selections to choose from. They offer a bigger portion than most thai restaurant around.
