I came here on a Friday night. The food was poppin! I ordered chicken enchiladas with green sauce. It came hot and flavorful. The atmosphere is nice with a bar and televisions to watch sports. Seemed more like a bar trying to serve Mexican food, honestly. Service was good and it looked like during the week they had really good food and drink specials (we came on a Sunday afternoon). Again, felt more like a good bar serving Mexican food. I got the Pork burrito and they do large slices of pork instead of shredded and I just didn't really like it. My kids each got the pork tacos and same thing. Large slices that were too big and too fatty. Not really that good. Rough, rough, rough. All reviews posted are subjective, so no there is no doubt in my mind that people have had better experiences here. I'm just sharing mines. Let's start with the dishes, they were inexpensive and plenty, I came here with some buddies for Taco Tuesday, and was so happy with the prices and quality. The vibe was great, awesome bar with a great scene and a lot going on. Music was good and the smell of the place indicated it was well taken care of. No qualms from me. If you want to feel taken care of, or if you want to ask questions about the menu, don't come here. This review is for their music space. While I have not had food here before, I've had friends tell me it's just ok. I came for their Devil's Night Bash! and had a blast. The bouncer at the front took his job really seriously. He was a bit rude to me and my friends. I'm not sure if this is normal, but it was a cash only event. Thankfully I always have cash on me. For my friends who didn't, there was an ATM near the bathrooms. When you enter, there is a full bar. My friends enjoyed ordering PBRs and mixed drinks. The music space is in a separate section to the right. It feels like a patio space, but indoors (especially with booths in the back). It was pretty small so it was made for an intimate show. Spicy ground beef is not spicy at all and there are other options for meat such a shredded beef and pork. Cheese is topped over the ground beef and chips, not extremely cheesy which I liked. My interaction with the server was typical nothing out of the ordinary. We visited this restaurant before going to see our friends' band play and thought to get an appetizer (maybe food too, depending if we liked the menu) and a couple of fun drinks. The starters/appetizers just don't seem very inspired. I wish they would consider putting a little more love into their menu. I had us (me 'n my date) order the Crispy Stuffed Jalapenos because they sounded like they MIGHT be eventful. They were not. They tasted like a grocery store freezer item. I was SO embarrassed that I ordered them (which is why this review has been in draft mode for so long)! :( So we tried again and ordered their Famous Empanadas which were okay. My wife and I along with a friend went here for dinner on a Friday evening. This place is in downtown Richmond and has a small parking lot along with street parking. We were seated right away and the service was good throughout. Two people had fish tacos and I had the classico burrito. Both were very good!! The fish had excellent flavor and the burrito was large, good and very filling. This place appears to have an arcade room but we did not go in there. I have been to Banditos several times for breakfast, lunch and evening drinks. Love their margaritas. They are a good option to grab few drinks and listen to some music. I don't know why, but we have made it a tradition to visit after we finish the marathon or the 10k. The Breakfast dish portions are generous. The loaded nachos are huge and super tasty. I had the shrimp and grits and thought they were "ok".. Wouldn't order them again. On this last visit, our server seemed a bit distracted and forgot a few things we ordered. I love burritos and I got a $10 voucher to this place so I decided to give it a try. I went around 9pm on a Sunday and the place was lively and welcoming. I went to the bar, because I was ordering my food to-go but I still sat there a while. They served me some courtesy chips and salsa, which was okay. The salsa was a little on the salty side and the chips tasted like whole grain chips. I had only planned on ordering the Baja burrito, but I saw this woman with empanadas and they looked amazing, so I ordered those too. Specifically, I got the spicy beef empanadas. The empanadas were AMAZING! They were a good size and worth the $8. The burrito I got was also on the salty side, so I left the alone and was kind of disappointed. As a cheap happy hour spot, Banditos is fine. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but the fact that it's a bar with a parking lot in The Fan goes a long way. The drink specials are inexpensive, the food is average, the bar is loud but large, and the service is apathetic at best. My friend and I arrived as it was beginning to fill up with the after-work crowd. We both ordered the happy hour special $5 house margaritas and told the server that we would be ordering food later. I'm not sure if there was any alcohol in the drink at all, it just tasted like sugar and mixer straight from the bottle. The server came back when we were done and my friend and I switched to beers also on happy hour. When we received them I attempted to order food but the server rushed away. It took 45 minutes to flag the server down again to order food. Multiple times I made eye contact with her, smiled, and waved for her to come over, but she kept walking away, either to watch tv at the bar, to disappear from the floor, or checking on tables near us while still ignoring me. It became a joke with my friend to see how long we'd have to wait. Finally we got to try the $1 happy hour tacos which were decent; worth the dollar but probably not much more. At 7pm they turned the televisions' volume on full blast to a hockey game that was already partly over, and we decided it was time to call it a night. I'm really not sure what kind of atmosphere they're going for; they advertise themselves as a lounge with a dance floor, but it's also part Mexican restaurant, part grimey dive bar, part sports bar, and a student/bro hang out. I usually come for lunch with my workers and never have an issue but I have been to this place in the evening probably 3 times and the last two times I let it slide but this time I had to write a review. I come in and order a water and I want to add a few more things but the waitress talks over you and rushes away. Went the whole meal without a refill. I felt as if our table was being ignored the whole time we are there, witnesses are always on their phone. Came for our anniversary and it was a great night. Skye was our server and she was awesome. She had really good tips on drinks and was very attentive. She even came right over so we could get drinks still at the happy hour price. We had the empanadas for an appetizer and they were really good and tasty. The amount of food that we got for the price was great. The portions were hefty. I got The Low Rider and really the only compliant I had was that the tamale was a little dry, but it did have a lot of meat so that was plus. The rest of the meal came out steaming hot. My husband got the fajitas and that potion was really big, he didn't even finish which is usually unlikely. The drinks were very good. The Piña Rita was very tasty and always came out fairly quickly. We thought there was supposed to be a DJ at 9pm, but there was nothing. It did look like they were setting up, but we had already been there for awhile so we weren't going to wait. I have never had any problems with Bandito's before and I completely understand that restaurants are short staffed. I sat at the bar and the bartender was so rude, cussing under his breath, slamming things down, rolling his eyes at customers, and when I asked a question about how many tacos I would get, he told me that is a order a "taco" I get one and if I ordered "tacos" I'd get three. Not a necessary attitude to give me. To top of off, he was talking to a friend at the bar and said he's "not one of those gays" and I did not appreciate that. I didn't catch his name, but if your waiter has a left sleeve tattoo, don't expect to be treated well. The food was delicious and came out quickly, which is why I gave 3 stars. read more

Service has really went down the tubes since the ownership change. It's sad when you are one of the only tables in the dining area (wasn't even remotely crowded), are never asked if you'd like a second round, then wait over 10 minutes for a check, only to have to ask for your tab at the bar so you can finally leave.
