After many attempts, I finally was able to fit Girl & The GOAT into my schedule. I was by myself…read moreso my reservation was at the end of the bar. The bar chair was comfortable and being a high top, had a nice footrest. It is rather dark, but had no issue reading the menus and while it was loud, the people around me were not having any difficulty carrying on a conversation. I was immediately greeted by my waitress and she reviewed the special with me. I ordered a glass of Tempranillo and reviewed the menu. I started out with the sweet potato pull apart bread followed by the skirt steak. The bread was excellent and came with a miso butter that transformed the bread into a nice savory starter. A few minutes later the skirt steak came out and it was an absolute flavor bomb! So many wonderful things going on here and I absolutely loved it. The steak was cooked perfectly and the Fresno chilies added added a nice pop of heat. An exquisite dish. I rounded dinner out with the Apple Cheddar Galette. And just like everything else, it was outstanding. My experience at Girl & The GOAT was exceptional and I look forward to my next visit.

The badam sodheko had a very interesting flavour - the horseradish gave it a flavour unlike anything I've tasted before. It was a very heavy dish, especially for an appetizer, and I'm glad I had a dining partner to share it with. The tingmo shone because of the spicy tomato sauce. The sauce was bold, perfectly seasoned and light. We asked for a second serving of the sauce because we liked it so much. The bhatura was one of the crispiest bhaturas I have ever had the pleasure of trying - it paired especially well with the aloo from the thali. All the dishes in the thali were delicious, from the dal to the kheer. We received a complimentary gajar ka halva. It was incredibly creamy and decadent. The woman who served us was friendly and warm. She made sure we were well taken care of, and repeatedly checked in on us. The ambiance was simple but clean. This was one of my best meals in Chicago. The ingredient list definitely sounds like it could be too salty, but they controlled the salt levels pretty well. It wasn't too greasy, either. The beef and lamb shawarma was tender. I will say - bring cash! The cashier taking orders advised me it would be significantly cheaper with cash. (I didn't ask how much the card fee would be, because I thankfully I cash on me anyways). Seating: limited, both inside and out. And the line literally never died when we were there, so it was extra crowded inside (the queue cuts right through the seating area, and those waiting for takeout have even less space to work with). We got lucky because we arrived right when another couple left their seats. In our 8-pack, we got three different protein options with plenty of consomme, but our opinions really differed on which was the best. My partner: 1) Surf & Turf 2) Al Pastor 3) Birria Me: 1) Al Pastor 2) Birria 3) Surf & Turf But overall, everything was too delicious to really matter. We wish we had something like this near us. (Also, because of the crowd, the food does take a bit of time to come out, but the wait is 100% worth it). Drinks: Strawberry Horchata ($5) & Fruit Punch Jarritos ($3.50) I originally really wanted the regular horchata, but they had just run out right when it was my turn to order (again, the line was nonstop). The flavor of the strawberry horchata took some getting used, but ultimately was an enjoyable drink to have with our meal (I do want to go back and try their regular horchata though).

Was treated to the lentil soup which was smooth, not too heavy on the tomato, and a slightly minty - a delicate flavor. I had the Sampler 4. The best falafel I have ever had. The eggplant salad was smokey and a bit like baba ghanoush. The shakshuka was slightly spicy. The ezme was slightly carmel flavored. The dolma were tender and tasted of lemon and mint. My husband enjoyed the manti, small dumplings filled with ground beef. For dessert, we had a delicious cup of tea that they blend in house. And kunefe, which is made from finely ground filo with cheese in the middle, fried and topped with simple syrup and chopped pistachios. Truly outstanding. The owner and staff were attentive and kind. Chicken was tender. A little over seasoned for my taste but when you dip it in the yogurt sauce it mellowed the saltiness. The Amada plate was also good. The beef was tender and perfectly seasoned. Hubby had the gyro plate (not shown) but he enjoyed it. Plenty of meat. The complimentary bread and dip were delicious. The dip was some type of yogurt mixed with artichoke but it had some carrot shavings in it. Dessert: all were delicious. The baklava and kataifi were the usual sweetness of the syrup. The cold baklava though..... A MUST if the regular baklava is too sweet for you. It's creamy and milky. It reminded me of a tiramisu texture. I will def find this back home. Great customer service! The screen was filthy (they just opened as a reminder) we couldn't tell what was in the 'combo' and then when we were going to order the boneless chicken wings, as they were gluten free when we ordered them years ago, I asked one of the women in the kitchen to confirm. She said no, I don't think so. And walked away without any further guidance for what I might be able to eat on their menu. It's not a preference, it's a dietary restriction - so we walked out from there. They clearly had no interest in helping me or our business. The pastry case is full of choices, from honey cake and cheesecakes to croissants and savory pirozhki, so it's hard to pick just one. My cappuccino came exactly as I ordered it, extra hot.
