BAM's was incredibly efficient from start to finish. Our flower beds were overgrown with all the worst sorts of weeds and random plants, and filled with leaves from years past. My wife and I had always planned to get to it ourselves, but work and family always came first. So, we finally sought help, and BAM's was great. Another landscaper wanted 500 - 1000 dollars just to consult and draw a pretty picture of what our yard *could* look like. Then I reached out to BAM's. Initially I reached out just about the front and side yards and sent them pictures. They offered me quote based on what I wanted done (spring cleanup and mulch installation), and I accepted. They quickly got me scheduled and when the day came, they did just an amazingly efficient job (much, much faster than I ever thought possible) and a very thorough one (it wasn't just fast, it was well done). The three guys who did the work were just incredibly friendly and professional, and did the beds in the backyard too, much to my very happy surprise (the quote wasn't in fact limited to the front and sides, but I was so overwhelmed with what I thought were the worst parts of the yard, I neglected that fact). My wife can now walk outside without feeling overwhelmed about all there is to do. I would work again with BAM's in a heartbeat. read more

They just didn't show up. I literally lived down the street from them. It takes about 10 secs to get to my house from their business address. For weekly service, they would show up about once a month. I had a doorbell camera (like most people) and called them out on this... to no avail. ..... See business response below: - Thank you for clarifying that if it rains, you won't show up but will continue to charge for missed visits. It rains a lot in Maryland. - Thank you for clarifying that my painters show up on the doorbell camera, but your crew does not. Painting happened months after I fired your company. This excuse is not logical or valid, just like your charges. - Thank you for clarifying that I lived within 10 seconds of your business so it would not have been a hassle to come back on a non-rainy day. - Thank you for demonstrating that you took more time to respond to this public review than the many emails I sent you. I did not want to drudge up more drama or for this business to threaten to disclose my private information and address. There's a reason I waited until I moved across the country to post this reviewed. I was scared! Giving this business your credit card is a carte blanche for them to rack up charges. You are not charged for each visit, but for months at a time. The explanation is that weekly visits are not guaranteed, but your contract guarantees them weekly payment. I was charged extra to weed wack part of my yard that had a gradual 6-in elevation difference and therefore was not mowed or edged for months. No permission was sought of course for this extra charge. read more

I had a really unpleasant experience with this company. I've been a homeowner of 6 different homes and this has been the only unpleasant one with a landscaping company. I initially contracted for a year, bi-weekly to be serviced on Wednesdays. The service kept getting delayed to Thursdays then it became Fridays (no calls to notify this) - which I didn't like but thought 'fine they're busy'. But almost every week, I had problems: huge mounts of grass-clipping tracks all over the yard, turning brown and grass under brown. They also didn't do edge cuttings so the lawn looked messy. And the grass between pavements, which should've been mowed over or cut with an edge trimmer, was growing up to 7-10 inches. I called the office a few times about these problems but after awhile the problems would return and nobody was picking up the phone. One day I get a call from a 'customer lobby'(?) who wanted to get my feedback about the company - two hours after I gave the review, I get an email from Brett, giving rebuttals to my feedbacks (my words were in quotes although I don't think it's legal for companies to record you without consent) saying he is cancelling my service. I thought it was odd and rude that he just made a decision without any courtesy to discuss the problems with me or agreeing to cancel the contract. Brett also said he will reimburse the last 3 services 'in good faith' - but it's been more than a month and I have yet to see credits on my bill. Please be aware. I was referred to this company by my realtor and I'll also be letting her know of my experience. Go with another company unless you have no other option. read more

Updated 6/2017 in response to BAMS rebuttal: A couple of points to note: Trying to discredit a potential customer's review by referencing other reviews given is a poor way of judging the validity of a review. Naturally, the outliers are the ones that warrant a response. In this case the lack of communication (which has been noted by other yelpers-at least by the ones that don't appear to be paid reviewers) mixed with the inconvenience caused, is what prompted me to alert others to this. As a consumer it is my right. The long rebuttal you have given is indicative of the customer service offered..That being said... While I may not have been charged, my credit card information was taken before any availability was given. When company actually charges the card was unknown to me. I cancelled my request after I was told over a week later that my grass wouldn't be cut. Note, I had to call you to even get an update. My ticket was NOT canceled due to someone else cutting the lawn at the time. This was not an emergency request and was nothing that didn't fit within the services offered per the person on the phone. The issue lies in the turn around time between estimates, what BAM could actually accommodate and the follow up. Waiting 4 days to get an estimate, only to wait an additional 3 days to be told nothing could be done for another 10 days is absurd. That's a 17 day turn around from point of contact to services rendered; which would be ok if someone from your company actually picked up the phone to notify a potential customer of this. This could have saved me time and could've saved you a poor review. read more

Have had Bam's come out twice now for weekly lawn service. The first time one of the mower guys complained to me that my backyard fence gate wasn't big enough for one of their riding lawnmowers! As if it were my problem! Backyard was cut with a push mower and looked good. Front yard was trimmed nicely and cut with a riding mower and looked like only one pass was made. Swaths of grass were uncut. Second visit same damn issue and now I have to go out, 2 hours after they left, to cut my front yard myself. read more

Right when I purchased my first home, I was anxious to start competing with all the dads in the neighborhood for greenest lawn. It was Spring time and I knew there was something I should be doing to improve my greenery. So I did what any novice yard maintenance guys would do and I started attacking it from all angles. I raked, shoveled aerated, cut, trimmed picked, and then BAM I created a mound of Dirt in my front yard. I looked across the street to see the other Dads talk shop about their new mower. I hesitated to ask them about my lawn because I didn't want to show any weakness. So I did a simple google search for landscaping in Kensington and BAM's caught my eye. I talked to Brett about sneaking his crew in late at night so the other Dads wouldn't judge me for hiring a crew. He said that was a super dumb idea. I agreed. BAM has been absolutely fantastic for us at our house in Kensington. We were looking for a provider who could provide more services than just a "mower and blower" and could actually take things out and put things into the ground to make the property really sparkle. The quality of the work is phenomenal, and our grounds looks wonderful ( we have a ton of flower beds) but the level of customer service they provide is just unheard of these days. And, as a bonus, the team that comes to our house has been extremely polite and courteous. They've done well... albeit, very basic. But for what they charge, it's good work. However, if you're looking for them to be somewhere at a specific time.... However if you're looking for them to communicate with you... I was very pleased with the BAM crews. I first used them when I had a complicated landscaping job and gave rather detailed instructions when I spoke to the office staff (who were nice and helpful but I wasn't sure if they got all the directions). When I came back from work, the crew was just finishing up -- they followed my instructions to a "T." I have used them ever since for all my regular lawn work and have never had a major problem (sometimes they run late). The workers are always surprisingly polite and the office even calls sometimes ask for feedback to see how they can improve. Owner, BRETT McCURDY, has a brand new payment method! The ways to pay him are numerous and ultra-convenient. His latest is an e-mail credit card payment method (with a gorgeous, colorful, restful garden scene with one of his trucks in the background) in addition to accepting payment by postal mail or payment on site. Before I hired BAM's Landscaping, I had nothing but unfortunate experiences with all 5 of BAM's predecessors. I am very clear, fair and upfront about what I want. However, if it's not done, I am not at all shy about firing and I had to fire all five. The problems I had with the companies and individuals I hired prior to BAM's include some or all of the following: (1) showing up late; (2) showing up on a different day; (3) not showing up at all; (4) doing slipshod work; (5) not doing a lot of the work contracted for; (6) dishonestly trying to change the price after the agreement, etc. That doesn't even include the people I didn't hire because their prices were ludicrously high. BAM's is first-class in every way. The owner also has high standards for hiring employees. They are always punctual, expert, polite. And what absolutely floored me was that when I commented on not knowing the names of several of my plants, owner Brett McCurdy knew every single one whereas I've had certified Master Gardeners come over and know neither the names nor how to care for them, even though they are average, non-exotic plants. Owner Brett McCurdy is always learning about his field--pardon the pun, LOL--and so obviously enjoys what he's doing. I'm so lucky and glad that I found him. read more

I hired BAM's to perform a spring clean up at my Mother's house (lovely idea for a mother's day gift). The Spring Clean Up includes the cleanup of leaves, sticks, debris and hauled away. Clearing out flower beds of deadwood and trim/prune back any necessary shrubs or grasses. Any dormant weeds are also removed from the previous season. Furthermore we had them put in Mulch which included: Preparation of all beds (edging & weeding) and application of a smooth layer of at least 2" of double shredded hardwood. They were able to fit her into the schedule within about 2 weeks of us accepting the proposal (which was very late in the season to be fair). My Mom was thrilled with the work. One of the crew walked the entire yard with her to see which plants she wanted to keep and which ones she was most concerned with getting removed. She stopped by the house in the middle of the day and was so impressed with how well things were going she even asked them to take out a few small baby trees that were encroaching onto her driveway. They were very careful not to harm plants she wanted to keep. Will certainly consider using them next year! read more
