I like that they put chunks of lychee in the lychee milk tea. At the counter they had a sampling of other stuff you could put into your drink instead of pearls. A worker wheeled in a cart full of various fruits (that he just purchased from Ranch 99 next door?) to replenish their supply, so they must make their stuff fresh. They didn't have mango when we went because it wasn't in season. The girl at the counter (she calls the owner aunt in Vietnamese) is friendly and all smiles - a rarity at most Asian places. We waited pretty long for our orders though. They should look into putting some snack food on the menu. read more

Thank goodness for my friend for introducing me to this place!! The drinks are cheap, yummy, and they use fresh fruits! I ordered the mango milk tea with mango jelly and it was soooo freakishly delish! It was only $3 too! There were at least 5 humangous chunks of fresh mango in the drink and a bunch of floating mango jelly. I love the fact that they didn't use powder at all...well, at least I don't think they did. If they did, it was at a minimum where I couldn't even notice! My two other friends ordered the lychee milk teas with lychee jelly and their's looked good too. It had entire lychees in the drink! Normally, at least at Fantasia, they only put chopped pieces. Also, the decor to this place is very cute...looks like a Fantasia but with more color. I'm definitely returning here again!! I feel so ripped for all the times I have turned to TapEx and spent over $3 for just regular milk tea...WTH is the extra 50 cent charge for tapioca? That's crap. But, I'm ashamed to admit that I'll most likely be drinking more of TapEx's overcharged and not so great drinks because this place is a bit far from home. Why must you be sooo far :( ** UPDATE 4/19/08** This place is so good I had to drag the bf here to try it for himself. We made a quick stop here to order a lychee milk tea with lychee jelly and a mocha frap with tapioca. These two drinks were just as good as the mango milk tea and the lychee had plenty of big lychee pieces and jelly in the drink too! I'm loving the consistency of their drinks. Also, we saw some people ordering Halo Halo (fillipino dessert drink with jello, red beans, crushed ice, etc) so we asked the cashier about it since we didn't see it on their menu. Apparently they have a secret menu..not sure how you can find out what other concoctions are available though. I guess just request anything not on the menu and see if they can make it happen?? But for sure Halo Halo is one of those drinks you can get that's not on the menu...it looked very good. Def gonna try that next time! BTW, they have stamp cards too..get 10 stamps (1 stamp per drink) and your next drink is free ! The cashier won't tell you about it so you gotta ask yourself. read more

I may have come here on an off day, but I don't know what the hype is all about. I got the che I usually get from whatever restaurant usually has them, the suong sa hot luu. The che wasn't that sweet and the jelly was just ok. I've had much better at most pho restaurants, which isn't saying much. The milk tea is really good. I just wished they had options to bump up the sweetness. I like my milk teas very sweet. Bobas are soft and chewy and sweet. It just sucks that you have to be prepared to bring cash, they don't accept card. Not much variety in flavors though, and you can't really mix and match like other boba places I've been to. Ingredients are fresh and service is fast. I love their longan sunrise with grass jelly added. You know you got good che if the beans are soft and chewy and not mushy, jelly have good texture and not hard as when some places keep it too long, and coconut milk is fresh without too much sweetener added to mask any preservatives. 2.5 stars I stupidly tried coming here twice on a Monday when they're closed. So... I was suuuuper excited about finally checking it out on Tuesday. I ordered a #4 without the red tapioca. I liked all the goodies inside, especially the pandan jelly. However, the drink itself was very bland. It needed more sugar. Once you stir up all the ice, the drink is watered down significantly. Next time, I'll ask them to make it extra sweet for me. They're also inconsistent with the goodies. My friend ordered the same drink and got a lot more mung bean in hers. I was jelly! Har har.. Get it?? Jelly?! :) Service was friendly and fairly quick. I was afraid based on previous reviews to ask for changes to my drink but they happily took my order. I didn't think I would find a milk tea place as good as Fantasia but I guess I was was wrong. I had the Grass Jelly Milk Tea ($3.25) and it was quite tasty. Bambu makes really good milk tea that actually has the tea flavor with a balanced amount of sweetness. They also have a wide selection of other drinks like smoothies, che, juice, etc. Prices are similar to other milk tea places but they are definitely not the cheapest. I wish a BAMBU would open up where I live, let me first make note of that. The difference with this place is that they provide contemporary and traditional Vietnamese desserts. I only have Chinese-style boba near me, or the good old three choices I get at Pho places. My uncle, who is an avid adventure-seeker when it comes to food, recommended this place and my family and I couldn't wait to visit after we arrived in San Jose. He made a very astute observation: both the young and the old come here because it's that good, and no one cares. The line went out the door, and I honestly didn't have high expectations for this new store, probably originating from a kid who wants to make a buck. Not too long later, unexpected from the size of the long line, I got my very own cup of Che. I didn't pretend I knew what to order so I took on the "everything" dessert. It was amazing! The great part about these desserts is that you can't down it in a few minutes. It takes time to chew & drink. What do I have to say about that? BAMBU's che is well worth your money. WOW, a vietnamese spot right in the middle of a chinese plaza... My friend took me here the other day since we were in the neighborhood. He was telling me about how good it was and since im a fan of pearl drinks, i was pretty excited. He ordered me this coconut drink with pearls... i dont even know what it was called, but it was GOOD! so freshing, and didnt taste like those fake coconut drinks... i think i killed mine in less than 5 min.. and i even used my straw to maneuver the ice around to get all the pearls... I love this place. These days, I am buying che once or twice a week (yikes). Always the same. Number 17 on the dessert menu (taro and pandan jelly) and I add red tapioca. Everything tastes super fresh and delicious, and the tapioca and pandan jelly aren't sticking to each other in a globby mess. The workers here are typically very nice. I also see they have taken suggestions about the music being too loud. The past few visits, the music has been at a reasonable volume. The only thing I don't like about the dessert is that they put a bit more milk than I would like in the dessert, but it's really something I could request less of but am too lazy to do. Great boba place! I've been several times and I will continue to go if I'm in the SJ area. I've gotten the mango iced tea and blended vietnamese ice coffee--both were superb. The Che at Bambu is good, but I feel as though it is overly iced and much too rich. I like my che simple and original. Bambu adds a lot of toppings that make me feel as though I am drinking a smoothie/che combo item. read more

The desserts were as good as other Bambu places, however the customer service of a particular girl sucked! a young girl had nice hair and was well dressed with the bra exposed on her back, and acted as if a model on the run way. Her Vietnamese speaking to customers pretended to have American accent which was so annoying. I know coz she spoke "normally" to her co-workers. My transaction was one-way talk, from me to her. This is the best che place I have ever been to! I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered here! (Teas, smoothies or che!) I love Bambu! They always make the best Che for me. I tried most combos and love them all. One thing I don't like is the pandan jelly. They call it banh lot but it's not. Banh lot is rice flour and this is tapioca flour so it's super chewy and gross. But I like most things they have on the menu.
