First time visiting Bambu here in Philly! I've been to a few locations in the SF Bay area already, so I am already well familiar with the franchise generally. Shop is on the smaller side, but definitely clean and appealing. Love having Vietnamese music videos on the screen that are chiller and a nice change of pace from other places that are showing sensory overloading K-Pop or anime. Definitely less distracting when eating in. Our group ordered a ton of different things, but I got the #13 Ube Halo Halo. I've had the real stuff in the Philippines, and this was pretty good! We asked for an extra cup to share too, and were able to get that, along with our desserts within minutes of ordering. Not too busy on a Sunday evening, so this place was also a great place to chat. The service is quick and straightforward, no frills. There's a few tables that aren't usually filled when I'm there, so seating is readily available. Wow. Just wow. I am floored by the speediness of the service here. Granted it wasn't busy when I walked in, this encounter was still by far the quickest I ever had in getting my drink order. Heck, I didn't even have time to sit before it was ready. If Jimmy John ever opens a che spot, this would be the equivalent of their speediness in service. Cute Vietnamese Chè dessert shop in a shopping plaza in Philly! These aren't your traditional Chinese/Taiwanese boba! They have many coconut based desserts with a variety of jellies!!! I had a coconut milk dessert with 3 types of jelly, including grass jelly, red boba and pandan jelly - The Bambu Favorite. The coconut milk was very sweet, especially with 3 different types of jelly. I liked the pandan jelly the best. The ice in the drink helped with the sweetness and diluted the sugar. Amazing selection- I generally opt for a non-caffeinated boba-style tea (hold the boba, make it herbal jelly!) because I'm sensitive, and their flavor options did not disappoint. I got the lychee tea and it was so amazing I finished every last drop, even tho the serving size was average (I got whatever the smallest size was). Bambu is a Vietnamese dessert shop that also sells drinks. I feel that they've "Americanized" Vietnamese desserts by creating preset combos so that it is easier to order and of course with a markup. There are a lot of locations out in California and I didn't care for it much out there but it is appealing now that it is harder to find Vietnamese shops here. There ingredients seem fresh and the desserts we've had so far are generous in toppings, which at least justifies the markup. We got the #6 and #10. The #6 has various fruits (Logan, lychee, jackfruit, coconut strip) and jellies and is kid friendly. I got #10 because it has hot luu but #6 had this as well but with more variety. The drink for #10 turns brown because of the black grass jelly. I would get the #6 over the #10 next time. Located in a strip mall with parking available but it can be hard to find. Note the prices on the menu are outdated. #6 is $0.75 more than the menu price and there is a quarter sugar tax on top of everything for being in Philly. read more

I found it! The most delicious, authentic Thai milk bubble tea! I've been ordering the large Thai milk tea with bubbles, and it always blows me away. The tea alone takes me back to Thailand. The taste of the Thai tea is so concentrated, in a good way, because I don't want that watered down stuff. The bubbles could use some improvement though. They tend to clump up together at the bottom, and I would really like servings of bubbles in my mouth with my tea at the same time, instead of being left with more bubble than tea at the end. Which would also help me not inhale the Thai milk tea every time. By the time I get home from my 15 minute car ride, I have nothing left to drink. Another thing is they do have a pretty high credit card minimum of $15, so make sure to bring cash! read more

My daughter introduced me to this Vietnamese jelly drink after we had lunch at Pho 75 in south Philly Chinatown area. It comes with shaved ice ball on top and you crush it with the long spoon to make it into a slurry. Then you drink it with the bubble tea straw to suck the jelly. I love the green Pandan jelly. It tastes like tapioca but is more chewy that you can enjoy the taste a little bit longer. The coconut milk is a great compliment to the jelly. Amazing dessert drinks. I've been visiting this location for nearly two years and I never had a bad experience. I had number 10 dessert, which is coconut milk with pandan jelly, grass jelly, and red tapioca. I replaced the red tapioca for the regular one (bubbles). They do not charge extra if you swap out ingredients! My boyfriend ordered the avocado drink, #5 dessert, which essentially is avocado with topping and condensed milk. It's like a thick avocado smoothie with pieces of toppings. We had the coffee before, which is good as well. The other popular drink is with basil seeds and coconut water. Not my favorite because I'm not a fan of the coconut water they use in the drink. For all the drinks, you have to crush the ice and mix it with the toppings. Bambu has a large menu of fresh, healthy and colorful Asian-inspired Chè, crisp boba milk teas, bold Vietnamese espressos & blended coffees, and real & exotic fruit smoothies. It is nice to have a slightly different option from the Taiwanese bubble tea chains to change things up. Bambu is located in the other big shopping center on Washington Ave. I write "other" as I have only been to the one shopping center higher up on Washington that contains Pho 75, Sky Cafe and the Hung Vuong Super Market. Parking didn't seem to be quite as nuts and challenging here, but it may have been that it was later on a Sunday night. The Bambu store is clean, bright and comfortable with a limited amount of seating. They have a fairly large menu but there are several pictures on the wall describing the different drink items. My wife, who is Filippina, liked the drink options with shaved ice such as #2 Bambu Combo. This did taste similar to halo halo and it was very good. Our daughter and myself shared the Green Tea blend which was smoothie like and had a pleasant Green Tea taste. It was difficult making a decision as there were so many options. We will definitely return to Bambu to try out some other drink options. I just hope I am as lucky with the parking. It is snugged away in a corner of philly in the viet area. Plenty of parking in the lot. Plenty of restaurants in the area too. This is a chain and surprisingly similar standards and quality across the board. Just to reiterate, the 3 bean dessert was delicious and all the components fresh and well proportioned. Unfortunately the taro smoothie was powder and not fresh, it was sweet beyond belief and did not even taste like taro. Will not be ordering that in the future but I will be back. I never liked Bambu until I was given the #1 drink on their menu. I really liked how fresh the coconut water tastes. What's interesting is the green jelly, very chewy! I liked it. The amount of sweetness was perfect. Not too sweet like most sweet drinks. I had it twice and so far it lives up to its ranking on the menu!!! I also tried 3 colored dessert, che 3 mau. I had che 3 mau at various locations/places and che 3 mau at Bambu is not my place to go to. As I mentioned the green jelly earlier, it doesn't taste right when it's replacing the actual jello the che 3 mau usually comes with. In this case it's too chewy. Not a good combination for this type of drink/dessert. Next time I will ask for actual crispy but soft to the bite type of jello see if they have that option. read more

Very refreshing and amazing. After that, I highly recommend these incredible fruit smoothies. Strawberry is always a go-to, with tapioca in it perhaps, but they have a large selection, including specials, and it's so worth it. This BAMBU, the first I ever went to, is hidden inside a strip mall full of Asian goodies on the South Side of Philly, and parking is really difficult, but worth it. Tiny spots and they're usually full, much like my ex. But once you try the drinks (served by some of the friendlier folks in the city of sisterly love), you will want to rap about them to everyone.
