This is our "go to" Chinese. It is always spot on. There are a few tables and you can eat in, but mostly it is take out. It's a very simple little restaurant in a small strip center. The food is the bomb. Everything has always been great. Tonight we are having Broccoli Chicken in General Tso's sauce (yes, they cook to order), and Chicken Lo Mein. It was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. It's very reasonably priced and large portions. A great little neighborhood spot. read more

I've lived in Jacksonville for a little over a year and have been rather disappointed with many of the Asian restaurants I've visited with my wife in that time. Lo and behold, Bamboo Express, a small Chinese spot in a non-descript location on San Jose Blvd. and University Blvd., is the Chinese restaurant we've been waiting for. We stopped in for lunch and ordered General Tso's Chicken and Orange Chicken lunch specials which include fried rice and an egg roll for $8 apiece. The family running the shop started the food immediately and had it out to us right away. My General Tso's chicken was cooked well with your typical sweet General Tso's sauce and accompanied by fresh broccoli and fresh, enjoyable fried rice. So many of the Asian restaurants we've visited serve stale, old rice (at much higher prices...), but not so at Bamboo Express. My egg roll was dripping with oil, so of course it was crunchy and tasty. Service was friendly and efficient, and the store was very clean. We ate in- no sticky, gross tables here. The food was fast, a good value, and tasty, but not tasty enough to merit 5-star level. We definitely plan on stopping back in for takeout or a quick meal. If you live in the San Jose area, Bamboo Express is a great spot to try for Chinese takeout or a quick eat-in meal. read more

Tried a new place for take out. There is no online ordering unless you use GrubHub but you have to have it delivered and pay the delivery and service fees. My first time here at Bamboo Express. Just your typical fast food Chinese joint. They all look the same :) I ordered the Triple Delight lunch special - beef, chicken, and shrimp with mixed vegetables. Food is not bad. Their lunch special cost $5.45 which includes your choice of either an eggroll or a can of soda. They offer free delivery with $10 minimum within a 5-mile radius. After ordering the same thing for years, I guess they changed the opportunity to order Tofu Cashew. That wouldn't necessarily be a problem, but the woman who answered the phone was INSANELY rude about it, to the point where we will NEVER order from here again. The food is subpar at best, oily and bland. However, it was a very convenient location for takeaway after a long day of activities with our children. I will be sure to tell our friends and family and advise them of other Chinese take out restaurants with much better customer service and food! I'd prefer the opportunity to be treated like a person when asking for them to continue their ability to request changing out the chicken for tofu in their cashew sauce (which I had been able to do there -and elsewhere- without being treated like trash). This has got to be the worst experience i have ever had to encounter. As I ordered for myself and family, i get my food. I make a payment with a $100 bill. The delivery man in a white car did not have change. He expressed he will have to go back to the store and get change and he was not able to leave me the food. My family is hungry now i expressed to him. I said leave the food and come back with my change. "He said no!" I had to call his supervisor. He said i shouldn't order from the restaurant. Super unfortunate that the restaurant we once trusted to deliver our Chinese when we didn't feel like going out or cooking has chosen to not take care of their customers. I ordered Mongolian beef with white rice, two beef and broccoli with fried rice, small egg drop and crab rangoon. She told me it would take 45 minutes to one hour. At an hour I called. She said it would be another ten to fifteen minutes. It was a half hour. We live thirty seconds away. When the food arrives I got some sort of beef dish with fried rice as mine. I called and she argued and argued. Now I've had the Mongolian beef several times and I know that isn't what I got. Tonight I ordered General Tso chicken with egg added to the fried rice and also an order of fried rice with egg for my wife with a small Wonton soup.
