Shrimp fried rice. Yummy factor? Skyrocket
Craig W.

Lets go straight to the food. 1. Veggie egg rolls. Pass. Pretty confident they are not made there. Which is fine. They had a garlic taste. A huge yuck. And did I mention that you have to squint to see what veggies are in there? 2. Shrimp in bblack bean sauce. Not your typical appearance at other places. Big size shrimp, nice flavored sauce. Win in sin err sherman oaks city. 3. Shrimp fried rice. Had the standard veggies in there peas included. The rice is not your common brown color. Didnt matter. Huge size Shrimp. That was the kicker. I used soy sauce with mine. You will have leftovers. Oh the lemonade is very good. Service is wonderful. Seating? Who cares.

Parking is street or valet at the time of this review it was 11 dollars. I have been told owner has changed as well as the menu. Food is still good. Food was not spicy even though we ordered it spicy. Kung Pow only had a few red peppers but lots of peanuts. I liked the black bean shrimp it had. Very good flavor. Beef and broccoli was an ok flavor but meat was tough. The Hot Sour soup needs more sour so ask for vinegar. Service was good. I would rate the food just fair. This has been a go to spot for years but it may of been an off night for the chef The interior is still very high end.

Hi everyone. Hang in there with me because this will be a long one. My family has been going to Bamboo on Ventura for forever, approximately 2-3 decades that is. I was born somewhere in the middle of their first trip here and the present day. My first memory ever, my 3rd birthday, is set here. We all ate as a family in one of the big corner booths and I had my Princess Belle cake. On my 8th grade graduation, we came here straight after for a celebratory dinner. The kind waiter brought us complimentary orange wedges and juicy lychee. Now, as a student at NYU, I felt moved out of nostalgia tonight to finally write about my many experiences at this iconic SFV establishment. I think the people who are complaining about the food are just ordering the wrong dishes. Let me be frank, there are some dishes on the menu that are not so palatable in my opinion. I'm done gatekeeping, for the sake of the business, here is what you must order next time you go: the fried chicken appetizer and the sizzling rice soup. If nothing else PLEASE order these two dishes. Trust me, they will change your life and alter your Bamboo Cuisine experience for the better. Also the best waiter/waitress here hands down is Joyce. Shout out to Joyce! She is always hospitable, kind, and able to cater to any need or whim. But truly everyone here is as gracious as the last. I have grown very familiar with this restaurant and the staff here. This place that's been such a huge part of my childhood is something I have found myself reminiscing fondly about on this cold wintery New York day. I hope all you will be able to experience just an inkling of the joy I get when I step inside this aggressively early 90s Chinese restaurant. Like seriously the little stone fountain with the fishies brought me so much joy as a young child it's kind of hilarious. Or the celebrity signed portraits, although kitschy, are requisite and fun. If they ever change the interior of this place I think I'll throw a fit and foam at the mouth. I'm so serious about this place. Here are some photos I've taken over the years:

Took me a hot minute to find good, authentic Chinese food. It's a local hotspot for locals. The Pungent chicken is my go to.

They "close" at 10:30 (the place was still hopping at 10) and we arrived at a little past 9:00, figuring at that hour we wouldn't need a reservation. Think again, the place was just one click shy of a madhouse. The bar was lively and the tables were occupied mostly by 20-30 somethings in crocks and belly shirts, jabbing food in the mini fire pits and shoveling it in their mouths with the authority of hungry guard dogs. We had to wait 10 minutes or so, for a table and another 7 or so for our server to appear. It gave us a chance to peruse the menus. Yes, menus, plural. There are three laminated ones and a book with pages. Given how extensive the food menus are, the drink menu was a little unimpressive. The sake list had a few things listed, not including a Nigori. The white wine had two, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio. We like Sauvignon Blancs but ordered the Pinot Grigio. Mezza Corona. That's what casinos comp pour at the slots in Vegas. It was fine, but not optimum. Overwhelmed by the menus and not particularly craving one thing, we decided to order the "Anniversary" dinner for two. It was a set combination of mostly proteins with the house salad and miso soup. The "poke" wasn't the usual gooey stuff seen in most raw places. It was perfect little cubes of ahi and marinated onions over a bed of pickled seaweed. The salad was large and simple, with a sesame dressing. Then... omg the proteins started to appear. Every single one was delicious. We found that putting the pork belly on the grill helped to keep the following proteins from sticking. The rice was beautifully steamed. The miso soup was even the best I've had in a long time, with lots of tofu and seaweed sinking to the bottom. I can see how this would be a great place for a group, and I can't wait to go with more friends; albeit my husband and I really enjoyed the respite. Our server, Cole, was cool and real. He didn't seem to need to pretend to be nice. He was just a sincere, caring young man. Their happy hour times are worth noting. They're happy throughout the day and night with the exception of 6:30 - 8:30 pm. There is a happy hour combination menu you might want to consider, especially if you've never been here and just want to see what's going on. There are AYCE choices which might come in handy if you're really into some favorites. There's also a big thing about Wagyu. Eh. Different strokes I guess. We'll definitely be back. We really enjoyed the experience. We reduced one star for the silly valet parking and the not-so-great wine list.

The food is always great when I come here. The consistency is what brings me back. Bistro hangar…read moresteak is always my favorite. Their kimchi and cold tofu are also 10/10. Our server today, Fallon, was nothing but stellar. She would check up on us when she saw our food getting lower. It was nice to see how proactive she was. If you can, definitely ask to be seated in her section. Great dinner and will be back again.

I usually get food to go, so it was nice to sit down and experience the restaurant in person. One of the things that caught my attention was their lunch specials. The prices were cheaper than a lot of other places I have been to, and considering the portion sizes, I thought it was a really good value. I always appreciate a lunch special that actually feels like a full meal and not a smaller portion just because it's discounted. I ordered the Thai Iced Tea along with the Pad See Ew lunch special, which came with a salad and some rice. The salad had a Miso Ginger dressing, which had a wonderful flavor. My friend also went with the lunch special and ordered the Orange Chicken. We were both surprised by how filling the meals were! Definitely enough food to leave you satisfied without feeling like you needed to order something else. The restaurant itself is pretty quaint and has a cozy, casual feel. There are a few tables inside, along with some additional seating in the back. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, which made the experience even better. Parking is something to keep in mind. They share a parking lot with a few other businesses, so there is a small lot in the back, but it can fill up. There is also some street parking in front and residential street parking nearby. Overall, I'm glad I finally stopped in. Between the affordable lunch specials, generous portions, friendly service and casual atmosphere, it's definitely a spot I would come back to. I'll truly be back, especially for another lunch special!

They were like thin glass noodles. When they arrived, they were in one glom and almost impossible to separate. The shrimp were a little overcooked as well. I mentioned it to them and they offered to make me a new one, which is good, but I didn't take them up on it. Restaurant itself is counter service, wonky tables. Friendly people behind the counter. Still, won't be going back.

I ordered a large coconut milk soup, a large shrimp wonton soup, and a large pad Thai. Both the coconut milk soup and the pad Thai came with tofu, which was perfect for us. My wife wasn't feeling well, and that coconut milk soup with a little chili spice turned out to be exactly what she needed. It cleared her throat and nose right away. She had that first moment of relief we all crave when we're under the weather and something finally hits the spot. Seeing her feel better made the whole trip worth it. The food was packed beautifully. Everything was arranged with care and placed in a sturdy brown handled bag. I was able to stay in my car out front, and the woman brought the order out to me so I didn't have to pay the parking meter. That small gesture meant a lot. Kaohorm Kitchen gave us great food, thoughtful service, and a moment of comfort when we really needed it. I can't wait to come back.

I happened to see a really glowing review and then realized the place had four stars. I had actually called them a few days ago to see if they had lunch specials and if I had missed them. The nice guy on the phone said they did have them but that they had ended at 3 PM (about an hour before I called). So tonight, I decided to make sure they were still open and find out if they had any dinner specials. They did, for only $20! I had called them right at 9 PM to make sure that the closing time of 9:30 PM listed in Yelp was correct and to ask them what time was last order. Last order was at nine, so I gave it to them on the phone. The reason it was in to-go packaging in my photo was because they mistakenly thought that I wasn't going to eat there. I had my usual benchmark dinner of pad kha prao khai (holy basil or mint leaves with chili and chicken). Absolutely top marks. They knocked my socks off. The quality was exceptional, the ingredients excellent, the recipes awesome, and the most greaseless tasty vegetable spring rolls I've had in years. Really impressive. The husband is the waiter/server/host and the wife is the cook. That's it. Except for "The Boss", lol. My guess is their daughter is about seven or eight years old, and very sharp (quite obviously pictured in their logo). Super nice people, amazing food, killer prices, almost walking distance from my house. I will definitely be back, and you folks should try it out when you can. Seriously.
