Ordered the General Tso's chicken for $26. Rice was so hard as if it was barely cooked. I returned the bowl to the waitress. She said the cook told her I got the last scrapes of rice from the rice cooker and that it was going to take a while for another order. So I ordered a chicken sandwich ($20) as a replacement. Our plane was delayed. We tried to order something, but the bar code scanner took us to a "Forbidden" 404 code. We went and bought a bottle of water from their store. Bam Bam is a great restaurant to sit down at as you wait for your flight to arrive. It offers Viet inspired dishes, sushi, as well as other favorites such as General Chicken. The restaurant is similar to others within the airport where patrons seat themselves, then order and pay for their food from the tablet. Once the food is ready, the servers will bring the food directly to you. Efficient and eliminates the wait for workers to fee up before taking care of you. Food: Pork skewers - If you have tried grilled pork from Vietnamese restaurants, this is exactly what that is. Tender grilled pork comes on two skewers on top of a cabbage/onion slaw and served with sweet chili sauce. The pork had great flavor and was slightly charred, adding to the overall flavor. The menu described the slaw as pickled but it tasted just like a raw slaw. Not too bad as the pork and sauce added plenty of flavor to the veggies. 4/5 Seafood fried rice - The portions was huge! This can easily be shared with another person along with the skewers and be a full meal for both. This came with crab, shrimp, crawfish, eggs, and green onions. The rice sadly did not have too much flavor and lacked veggies to give it a fresh pop. Most Asian fried rice shave a nice smoky flavor from the wok that it's cooked in and this sadly did not have it. Perhaps it was prepare son a non stick pan? 3/5 Overall I had a pleasant experience at Bam Bam. The portion size is definitely good for those that are more cost conscious as I made it into another meal later that night. Perhaps I should give kudos to United air for setting the stage for such an awesome experience, but the winner here is the breakfast Cajun fried rice that I ordered here before boarding my plane. I had half a bite of one and drank most of my coffee with it to wash it down. There was a seasoning that was overpowering similar to Chinese 5 spice that was screaming. I had a layover in Houston with some friends, after about 20 hours of flying. We were all exhausted and starving. While some of our friends went to just grab something quickly from Wendy's, one of my friends and I ventured for something we hoped would be a little healthier. The minute I sat down, I knew not to order anything too Vietnamese (I'm Vietnamese and I just had this intuition to not do it lol). So, if you can, order anything that resembles more American food than Vietnamese food here. I ordered wings and truffle fries here, which is why my food ended up being pretty good. My friend ordered summer rolls and the vermicelli bowl with shrimp. I'm not exactly sure how you mess up summer rolls, but it was gross. She gave me a bite to taste and the shrimp was rubbery and extremely overcooked. The dipping sauce was awful. Her vermicelli bowl, luckily, was a little better but she was still extremely disappointed in her entree. The way she described it after eating was, "It tastes as if someone just looked at the Vietnamese dishes and put all the ingredients together, without looking at the instructions on how to make it actually taste like the Vietnamese dish..." So, there you have it. Also, side note, the food here is really expensive for "Vietnamese food." Granted, I already knew that since we were at the airport but...keep that in mind while you read my Yelp review and take my advice. I ate here twice in the last week; once on the way to Florida and again on the way back. It's a Thai/cajun/vietnamese spot with a TON of relaxing space and even more chargers for all of your devices. You order from the iPads at each table, swipe your card, and your food/drink show up a short time later. I ordered Pad Thai Noodle with Shrimp on the way out and the special that was vermicelli noodles on a salad with Shrimp on the way back. Both were light, healthy (rare in an airport), and really tasty. The beer selection featured the usual macro stuff as well as some local options. A couple of the local options was St. Arnold beers. I was excited to try them after their recent success at GABF. They lived up to the hype. The employees were just friendly enough. They weren't rude, but weren't exactly friendly either. If you get a spot at the high tables you can have a never-ending supply of people watching. I found it quite entertaining. They have a ton of bar spots to watch sports on TV as well. The service is not very quick but there is a "call server" button on the iPad where you order from so that's what I did. Had a connecting flight in Houston, so my best friend and I had about 40 mins of spare time to grab dinner in between our flights. This place looked pretty cool--nice decor, swanky place--each tables/counter top seating had an iPad so you could order your food and drinks--how tech savy. We ordered the egg rolls, five spice crispy roasted pork belly, and the maki roll (fried shrimp tempura inside with crab sticks on the top--I forgot the exact name of this roll--I think it was called the BamBam roll). The pork belly was not crispy at all--nothing special about it either. The sushi roll was actually pretty good. The egg rolls never came out! I flagged down a waitress there and told her that my other two dishes had came out and we were finished yet the egg rolls had never came out--she wrote down our order # and assured us that the manager would credit us back the order (I had already closed the check on the iPad screen). Sounded great right? Well, it's been a week later and I got no refund--I know it's only $8.50 but it's super annoying that they would rip customers off like that. Service was just terrible. Excellent food and great servers. Management could use retraining. 6 servers offered to take my plate or boxed food as trash while I intended to eat it. More than half the seats were open and I was working at the airport. I was on a phone call with a new client discussing signing their agreement when a server walked up and grabbed my plate with more than half my food still on the plate. Total time spent at the near empty establishment was under 1.5 hr. Completely unacceptable considering many people in airports are traveling for work. I would have addressed the issue in person if I wasn't juggling work and dinner then ran to my gate. The manager April 26th at approx 730pm was standing by doing nothing while servers ran around as if their job was in jeopardy. After serving and bartending for over a decade, I have seen this before. I am currently in sales and I have seen over baring management have this effect. I strongly encourage upper management to consider customer experience rather than burning and turning seats when the establishment is empty. I had about an hour before boarding my next flight and ran across this place since it was near my departure gate. I ordered the Bam Bam Street Corn which was pretty amazing choice! Don't think I've tasted corn similar to this anywhere else. For my entree I decided to go with the Crawfish Etoufee which was also great and it was a pretty large portion.
