We recently purchased a property in the Seattle area that had been vacant for several months. Considerable amounts of moss had built up on the sidewalks and entryway into the home, posing a safety hazard (it was quite thick and slippery). We had movers scheduled, and needed to have the moss removed before their arrival. Ballard Window was recommended to us, and so we called to schedule them to power wash the walkways.
I called several days prior, explaining what we needed done and why, and that we wanted the work scheduled a few days prior to the movers coming. I was told by Rich that he could get to it at the beginning of this week and that he would call to follow up on the exact appoint date/time. Monday came around, and I hadn't heard back from him, so I followed up with another phone call. I was told that they were pretty busy this week, but should be able to do it Wednesday or Thursday - again I was told that he would be in touch.
I should have seen the warning signs and started calling around, since Rich was avoiding making a more exact appointment, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited. On Thursday I called again, and Rich tried to put the job off until the following week. I explained, again, that we had movers arriving on Sunday and that the following week would be too late. He apologized, and said he'd be out early Saturday morning to get the job done.
Saturday morning, I receive a phone call. "It's raining," in his neighborhood and he wants to wait until it lets up. I was on my way out of town, so I told him to follow with my husband to make arrangements. Rich then says he doesn't need us to be there, that since he's already seen the area that needs servicing he already knows what's entailed and he can just bill us once it's complete. We leave it at that - that he will be by in the afternoon once it stops "pouring" (our neighborhood drizzled on and off all day, but no "pouring" rain while we were there) and my husband may or may not be there. Hubby wound up leaving at around 1 PM to work.
Hubby arrived at house this morning, and no surprise, Ballard Window had not shown. They also didn't bother to call him to let him know they weren't going to show. My husband did the best he could by purchasing several heavy duty outdoor mats and lining the walkways - a less than ideal solution, especially given that there are stairs and we had several heavy items (including a piano) and trying to navigate slippery walkways and steps was precisely what we were trying to avoid.
