What is it with DC and ball-themed food trucks? The first time I tried Ball or Nothing, I asked the employee, "Which ball is the best?" and he seemed startled. Okay, guess you haven't heard it all (yet). Anyway, this is THE BEST food truck in DC. If you come after 12:15, they're terribly slow (as in, you could wait 20-30 minutes). But it's still worth it. I don't know what takes so long--maybe they're grinding dried corn or ripening those heirloom tomatoes on the vine. Whatever it is, they're working some food truck magic. When Ball or Nothing is in my neighborhood, I slip down for lunch around 11:30 to avoid the line/waiting. In terms of food, I tend to stick with the classic meatball and the polenta (LOVE their polenta), and rotate the 2nd side. I've enjoyed the heirloom tomato salad and yesterday had the chance to try the eggplant + ricotta side. Incredible. The next time Ball or Nothing is near your office, swing by (early) and prepare to be blown away by their amazing food! read more

Meatballs! Came here during Truckeroo last week based on a recommendation from a friend. And she couldn't have been more right when she said this food truck was awesome. I had one traditional meatball, and one buffalo chicken meatball. Along with that, I had 2 sides- mac n cheese, and kale. For $8, this was a steal compared to other food trucks. The little paper tray they served my food in was loaded, and it was delicious. The meatballs had good flavor, and the generous portions of the sides were good as well. Food came real quick, and served with a smile. I will totally be back the next time I see this food truck roaming DC- top 5 food truck for sure. read more

The concept may have started as "meatball truck", but here it's all about the sides. I got a veggie ball platter with ricotta polenta and a goat-cheese-and-greens salad; I wasn't aiming for double-cheese, but there's a lot on the menu. The temperature was in the mid 90s, but the hot food still felt good; not every hot dish can manage that. The salad was a bit heavily dressed, but the polenta and veggie balls were spot on. Next time I'll try the kale. Not an everyday meal for me, but certainly a solid option. read more

Had the veggie balls. Amazing. Great combo of cheese, spinach, cauliflower and other veggie goodness. Coated with a tomato sauce that has a kick and some cheese. LOVE. Perfect consistency. And if you get a half sandwich, you feel perfectly satiated (i.e. pants still fit!) when finished read more

My husband and I are vegan for 42 days. I was walking down the street and noticed that this food truck had vegan balls! That sparked my interest. No one has vegan options at these DC food trucks. Ball or nothing was perfectly on my way to Starbucks. I ordered the vegan balls, kale, and roasted cauliflower. It was delish! I might have to come back tomorrow!!!! read more

Ball or Nothing - Italian Near Me

Awesome food and a good value. This is probably the best food from a food truck I've had in DC. A standard platter includes your choice of 3 meatballs and 2 sides. I had two classic meatballs and one BBQ chicken meatball. All were delicious, well-seasoned and tender. I had Mac & Cheese and Polenta as my sides. The polenta was creamy and mixed well with the BBQ and marinara sauces from the meatballs. The mac & cheese was awesome. Everything a good mac & cheese should be, although a couple of the noodles were al-dente to the point of being under cooked (still tough). And everything was hot & fresh when I opened it up at my desk. They also have Squirt, possibly one of the greatest sodas on the planet. For 11 bucks I was extremely satisfied. Hoping they return to Capitol Hill more often in the future! read more

Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. Roasted Cauliflower and Brussels amazing. Lots of flavor. Veggie meatballs was very good to my surprise. Large portions. read more

Love this food truck! Their balls are awesome! The sides are very yummy. Lots of food and worth the $12. So glad I tried this one now it's on my fav list read more

Ball or Nothing - Chicken and beef balls with mac and cheese and roasted cauliflower. YUMMY! - Italian Near Me

This is absolutely the best food truck I have tried. Both the wild boar and traditional meatballs are succulent and delicious. The duck fat potatoes were amazing, and the beet salad was wonderful. Everything is fresh and high quality. To boot, the owner is super nice and friendly. read more

Pretty darn good! I got the classic meatballs with a side of mac and cheese and beet/goat cheese salad. FIrst, the Balls. (This review is going to be rife with innuendo so please forgive me right up front...) I had two of three very different balls on my platter. I had one hard ball that was super chewy and kind of cold. The other two balls, however, were moist and delicious and hot. So I am not sure whether I got one old ball and two new balls or what was going on but my first taste was of the old ball and that kind of put me off. Glad I persevered and discovered that the other two balls were delicious. There wasn't a choice of sauces today so the meatballs just seemed to have a decent marinara sauce which was perfectly fine although I am curious as to what Ghost Chili Sauce might taste like (unless, of course, that WAS Ghost Chili Sauce in which case it tastes like marinara sauce...) Second, the sides. I got the Mac and Cheese and it was really, really good. It is not classic Mac and Cheese, however. It is rigatoni with a creamy cheese sauce ladled on top of it. Kind of like a creamy Bechamel (another Yelper used the correct French term here somewhere). Good, really rich and satisfying, but NOT classic Mac and Cheese so don't go expecting that. Also, it was lukewarm like one of the balls. Not sure what was going on there but that is the reason for not giving them a higher rating...a platter with some hot, some lukewarm food is a bit strange but everything is done to order so that might be the reason. And, the salad. Delicious! Nice, fresh spinach and baby greens with yummy slices of beet and sprinkled liberally with goat cheese. Also had roasted pumpkin seeds on it. Loved it. I will definitely be back to this truck. I think the fact that I had some inconsistent balls and temperatures might have been a fluke. In any case, delicious enough to warrant another visit. Fan. read more

I had these wonderful treats not too long ago and they were The BEST BALLS I've had.....EVER!! I admit I was a bit squemish at the mention of Ghost Pepper chilis...BUT.....OOOOHHH......Here's a man who KNOWS how to perfectly spice balls! They're spicy without being too hot and leave you wanting more! THAT'S how spicey is done!!!! I will agree with another reviewer who said the mac and cheese should have a new name. It is DELICIOUS! FOR SURE...but isn't really what you expect from American Mac and cheese. It's a flat noodle laden with a creamy cheese sauce. The noodles is thick and al dente - PERFECTO! Just not Mac and Cheese per se. The polenta I had was a perfect bed for my balls (pun intended - LOL). The guy was super friendly and a cutie ta boot! In African American common to here the colloquialism "This is SO good, I'm gon SLAP yo Mamma"! THAT applies here!! read more

Delicious! They have several vegan options that in no way are lacking in taste. I'm very happy with my order. I ordered the vegan meatballs and Brussels sprouts. Definitely give this truck a try. read more

As a strict herbivore, my food options are pretty limited. Sure, most food trucks have a "veggie" option of eggplant, peppers, mushrooms, etc. It is boring and gross. I went over to ball or nothing and it was amazing. I had the veggie platter with polenta and their Spring Greens with Goat Cheese and Figs. HOLY MOLY, it was tasty. That salad is sweet and savoury with a perfect hint of summer. The balls were okay but with the polenta, it was a great hit. I love that for the price, you get three balls and two sides. I'm def. gonna go back and try out some of the other food options. read more

The $8 meal comes with 2 balls (meat, veggie, or chicken) and 2 sides. I went with Mac 'n' cheese and apple walnut salad. They ran out of kale and cauliflower. If you're expecting a meatball sandwich, don't. But, it didn't really matter because everything was delicious! The balls were mildly spicy and flavorful. The salad was refreshing and the Mac and cheese was cooked perfectly. More food than you'd usually get at a food truck for $8. Go get yourself some balls! read more

A very good truck, the meatballs are the lesser part. It's definitely worth trying this truck. Just make sure you have your expectations correct. For a meatball truck, the meatballs (or vegeballs) are worse, and less special, than the excellent sides. The sides are diverse, and generally excellent. The balls are a bit soggy and not really good enough to stand on their own. I suppose that's why meatballs are usually covered up by pasta (and pasta sauce). They're still good (I recommend the bbq chicken when available). The sides are the reason to come here; there's something for everyone. I don't think you'd attract many customers with a "Sides or Nothing" truck read more

I'm way overdue writing this because I've been going here for years. The meatballs, particularly the beef and the bbq chicken, and the Mac n cheese side are my favorite of those respective dishes anywhere. To balance these indulgences out, I get a salad--which elsewhere in lunch world might mean romaine and croutons but not here. I usually get the mixed greens with beet and goat cheese. My only quibble is that I have to trek it for this truck because it's not near me but the exercise is probably a good thing considering i eat every last crumb of the very generous serving size. read more

I'm defiantly a fan of this truck. I waited patiently for them to come to L'Enfant and it was worth the wait. I had the BBQ chicken balls with summer squash & goat cheese and the mac & cheese. It was hard to decide on the sides I wanted all 4. The chicken balls were fantastic, moist, flavorful and a little spicy kick to them, great product. The squash was tasty and the mac & cheese was good. Next time there at L'Enfant I'll be trying the veggie balls with polenta and the other side I didn't get today. The guys running the truck were very nice and the food came out quick. read more

Good value for $10. Got the 3 ball + 2 sides special. Classic balls were good, cooked just right and a bit spicy. I got the honey crisp apple salad - very good, and the braised kale side. Sadly, they served the last order of sweet potatoes to the customer just in front of me. I got the braised kale instead - my only two choice because I don't eat grains. Not a fan of kale so I'm not a good judge of that. Overall I'll be back - but please make more sweet potatoes! read more

I had the veggie balls with spicy kale and sweet potatoes. I was pleasantly surprised by the huge portions. Although the veggie balls were kind of mushy, the taste was amazing! Kale was southern greens style but had a nice spicy kick and a dollop of ricotta on top. Everything was extremely flavorful and tasted freshly made. I would definitely go back! read more

Fantastic! I don't have strong feelings about meatballs, but on a Thursday when only a few trucks were around it looked like the best lunch option. I got two original meatballs and one chicken/spinach/mozzarella, and for sides the roasted sweet potatoes and the marscapone polenta. I leaned toward the beef meatballs because I can be weird about chicken and generally find it less delicious than red meat, but oh my goodness the chicken meatball was even more delicious than the original! And the sweet potatoes might be the best I've ever had. Large portions, well worth the cost, and good service! The list of food trucks I seek out is very short, but it just got one truck longer. read more

Best Food in a long time from a food truck. I had the traditional meaballs with brussell sprouts and mac and cheese. I so can't wait to try other options. read more

I'll be short, I had the BBQ Turkey meatball because they were out of the original. It was surprisingly good. Really good. The goat cheese and fig salad belonged in a restaurant. Outstanding. And the price was really really fair for the portions. The mac and cheese was different- noodles with a cheese sauce drizzled on top- but let me tell you it was really good. The customer service was great too. He was from Iowa and really nice. I will definitely return soon! read more

When is this coming back to Farragut Square?! The veggie balls were delicious as was the mac and cheese. So many sides to choose from! My favorite truck so far. Also seems to be fairly speedy service for a popular food truck. read more

Amazing DC food truck, worth waiting in a long line for. All of the meatballs are delicious, including (surprisingly) the vegetarian mushroom meatball! Recommend getting one of each meatball, one creamy side (the polenta or the mac) to accompany the meatballs, and then one vegetable/salad to feel better about what a heavy lunch you are eating. Seriously delicious. read more

So incredibly yummy. They were at Franklin Park for lunch today. None of the other food trucks seemed to do it for me (and all of them had enormous lines), and then way down at the end was this small truck with nobody in line. I had read some good reviews and decided to give it a try. I decided to for a full sub ($10) and it was HUGE. You can get a half sub for $5 or a platter for $9 (which comes with 3 meatballs and 2 sides). I'd like to try a platter next time. I will say that halfway through my full sub, I was pretty stuffed. I got through 3/4 of it before having to call it quits. Great if you have a big appetite. The half comes with 2 meatballs, full with 4 meatballs. Love that they have a couple of choices here. You can also get veggie balls, which I definitely plan on trying. I originally had asked to get veggie balls on a sub, and the guy running the truck very graciously recommended that the meatballs would probably hold up better than the veggie balls since they are a bit firmer. Both would have been delicious, he assured, but I'm glad he gave me his own personal tip. You can tell he wants to make sure customers are thrilled with the meal. The sub was really delicious. I'm Italian and from New York - I love my mother's meatballs and grew up eating meatball sandwiches. This completely reminded me of the meatball subs at home. The tomato sauce is nicely flavored and spiced with just a little kick (I really don't like spicey food and this was totally fine for me). The guy also uses a cheese spread which blends so well with the sauce - and it all get sopped up into this nice hearty bread. The bread is a little tough, but it pretty much has to be if it's going to hold the sauce and the meatballs. The meatballs themselves were nicely flavored and held up well in the sandwich. The combination of sauce, cheese, bread and meatballs was filling, satisfying, and just simply yummy. Messy sandwich to eat (they always are), so just keep that in mind before ordering a sub. I will definitely go back. It's really different from the other trucks out there right now and good value for the food you get. read more

The BEST food truck in D.C. The taste of their food is top notch, and you can tell that it's real, homemade, food, not something out of some frozen bag they threw into a fryer. The staff is always friendly, and even when there's a long line, service is quick. When I see them near my office, I always stop by. read more

Had the veggie meatballs, maple sweet potatoes and goat cheese salad. I'm impressed! I love meat but gave it up for lent, so I went for the veggie meat balls. They were excellent! Well seasoned with a hint of spiciness. The only thing i would change is that they were a bit mushy in consistency. But that's not unusual for veggie food that's usually served as a meat product. Sweet potatoes were great, well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Goat cheese and beet salad was fresh, crisp and tasty a very nice contrast to the hot meatballs and sweet potatoes. Portion was perfect. Not too much or too little. Price: 10 bucks. Lets face it all food trucks are over priced. But the food is good and it's DC. Get used to it! Overall this place is great! I will def be going back to try the meat meatballs soon. read more

For being open a week, the meatballs were pretty good. Polenta was awesome. The "Ghost Chili" sauce is a gimmick though, might as well have been jalepeno, as it wasn't very spicy. For a tomato sauce with a bit of a kick, it's good. On the platter you get a choice of 4 sides. They had polenta, couscous, ramps and asparagus, and iceberg lettuce wedge with blue cheese. I ended up getting two starches as sides because I don't like asparagus or blue cheese. However the couscous was also good. They also have meatball sandwiches if you don't want the platter. Looking forward to trying the veggie balls at some point in the near future. If this truck becomes more popular, the guy running it is gonna need to hire someone, so there can be one person taking orders and another person filling them. read more

Walking up to M Street today to get my fix. Ball or Nothing is still one of my favorite trucks! I usually get the veggie meatballs with polenta or mac n cheese. The balls are tender and flavorful. I love the cheese sauce that is poured over the mac n cheese just before serving - it feels so gourmet-ish, lol. The option of salad/fruit, especially during the summer is lovely. Always quick service and consistent tasting food, a 5 star truck indeed! read more

I have ordered food off of this truck a few times now and I have agree with most reviews. The food is really good and service is very friendly. The veggie meatballs are well made and different from anything I have had before. Polenta is one of my favorites as well as the collards. It would be nice if they switched to the better recycled containers, because their paper-based ones start to get soggy before I can get back to my office. I plan to visit them whenever they are near my office. read more

Great balls... of taste. Very tasty sub on a great, hard roll; the cheesy spread added depth, the balls themselves were quite good. I beg to differ with E G., who called the Ghost Chili sauce a gimmick. There more to the flavor of a chili than the ammount of heat. The use of Ghost Chilis, which they happned to have at hand, produced a better, not hotter flavor than jalepenos would have. I'll probably be back next Friday for platter with a couple of sides. read more

Come for the double entendres, stay for the side dishes. I've tried and enjoyed the fig and goat cheese salad, the mac'n'cheese, and the braised collards.
