Ball Ball Waffle is a must-stop for anyone visiting Cleveland's "Asiatown" area, providing Hong Kong style street food to northeastern Ohioans in a no-frills space. The very limited hours has prevented me from visiting here before January 2026, but after enjoying a lunch at the fabulous LJ Shanghai nearby, my bff and I took advantage of Ball Ball Waffle being open and got ourselves each a bubble waffle. We wanted to stick to something not to calorie heavy as we just had a big lunch but in the end, we failed at eating light haha! My mochi ball waffle cost $7, using a credit card. My bff ordered a Hong Kong style bubble waffle which was covered in condensed milk and peanut butter sauce. We both also had the option of adding on extra sauces and powdered sugar at the end. I opted just for a light drizzle of strawberry. My mochi waffle ended up being a very heavy treat! Each bubble had mochi pieces inside. This dense and delicious treat would cost like 12 bucks at disney and/or major cities! My bff, while covered in sauce, had airy bubble pockets and weighed less than mine! Nevertheless, our indulgent treats were definitely worth the stop and the money. The inside is basic, with some seating and tables. You also have the option to pay extra for a scoop of ice cream and they also sell bubble teas and milk teas. Everything is fairly priced and the staff are hard workers. read more

Visited Ball Ball Waffle just before the Asian Festival was shut down due to overcrowding. We requested an egg tart, a chocolate waffle, and a regular waffle. A few minutes later, the waffles were served up hot and ready. We opted for powdered sugar and chocolate drizzle. The waffles were fresh, hot, and tasty. The egg tart was yummy as well. Next time I'm in the area, I'll try some of their milk tea. They ran out with the customers in front of me. read more

Perfect picker upper after grocery shopping in the plaza or your meal at Li Wah. I decided to try their Hong Kong Ball Waffle. It's topped with condensed milk and peanut butter. I opted out on powdered sugar. The waffle came out crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I completed my order with a side of HK Milk Tea with glass jelly. It brought me back to HK for sure. It's a simple setup store with limited seating. Staff were friendly and greeted me as I step foot into the store. read more

CASH ONLY. I visited in May 2024 during the Cleveland Asian festival which was held outside on Payne Ave. Service was welcoming and the woman who greeted me as I entered was friendly. She explained what waffles I could order and she also told me about their cold Hong Kong milk tea. I only had $10 cash with me so I did not try the milk tea. It is quite small inside with limited seating and currently, no one was allowed to sit inside but I'm sure that was because of the asian festival crowd. WAFFLE TYPES -- The waffles are light and are shaped into little balls (see attached photo). You choose either a traditional ball ball waffle which is made plain ($7) or a chocolate ball ball waffle ($8). Then, you can choose a topping or several toppings at no extra cost. The topping options are chocolate, peanut butter, condensed milk, or powdered sugar. I chose a traditional ball ball waffle ($7). I topped one half with condensed milk and the other half with powdered sugar. It tasted good and it has a light texture. It tasted just like a regular waffle that you can make at home (nothing special). The powdered sugar and condensed milk were a sweet flavour addition but definitely not too sweet. I bet the chocolate waffle tastes even better. I'm not sure I'll be back but feel free to try a waffle and support this local business. **** GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024 - 32/150 total reviews in 2024 - 682 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 19 May 2024 read more

Ball Ball Waffle has a nice variety of options to choose from that I didn't know what to pick. I ordered the Hong Kong Style, which is drizzled with peanut butter and condensed milk, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Also tried the mega chocolate with a scoop of ice cream. I was so surprised how light the Hong Kong Style waffle was on my stomach instead of the typical heavy feeling you get from eating waffles. But the mega chocolate will do the job of making your stomach full from a delicious treat. Adding the ice cream made them even better, and thankfully, the ice cream stayed firm until I finished my waffle (little to no melted drops). The cook was very nice and helpful with recommending to us which waffle to try. I also like how you can watch the process on how to make them. The seating space is limited but cozy on a slow day. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a sweet treat! read more

Located right inside the Asia Plaza from the west parking lot entrance, Ball Ball Waffle is definitely a must visit if you want some authentic Hong Kong treats. We were visiting from NYC and it was our last stop before we drove back. The ball ball waffle (aka egg/bubble waffle, 鷄蛋仔) was delicious and addictive . We tried the mochi mochi drizzled with peanut butter & condensed milk, and the cheese & bacon - both super yummy!! The Portuguese egg tarts' filling was quite flavorful we got a dozen to go as well. The HK milk tea was on point, the Spanish coffee with vanilla ice cream was also a delight! The owners were also super nice and a pleasure to chat with! read more

Ball Ball Waffle is unique in my experience. Sure, they serve waffles, but not the kind that I've ever had - in a very good way. Instead of indents, like a regular ol' waffle, these waffles have outdents that are ball shaped and that can contain savory or sweet bits inside of them. I ordered the sweet peanut butter cup waffle and my daughter ordered the savory cheese waffle. We watched as our waffles were made, and ate them fresh off the waffle iron at the tables just outside of the shop, in the mall. I loved pulling off a ball at a time and popping it in my mouth. Great concept, well executed. read more

I go to Cleveland like once a year, and this place was SO worth the visit. The matcha mochi waffle was SOOOOO good, it literally tasted like mochi, I could taste the matcha flavor and it was overall amazing - I LOVED it - first time trying a mochi egg waffle and I found out I am a fan. This is a hole in the wall it's a little bit hard to fine but a great place to try if you were in the Chinatown area of Cleveland and going be the Asian Plaza. They have a good selection of original waffles and chocolate waffles they also have a Hong Kong tea with condensed milk and hot lemon tea to drink. There is no bubble tea options. They have a very limited seating right outside in the main plaza lobby but no seating inside the shop. The waffles come out hot and with filling in each little ball. It's not too sweet but very chewy. It's a fun combo of breakfast and dessert. read more

As a Hong Konger, ball ball waffle is hands down authentic and delicious! The owner is a Hong Kong native and is bringing his favorite recipes from Hong Kong to Cleveland! I only ate here once and it wasn't mind blowing, but the boba and bubble waffles I had were pretty good. They were definitely made fresh, and the shop was small but cute/clean. We didn't eat there since it was nicer outside than inside the mall but it is convenient that this place is here so you can get dessert just after going to Li Wah next door, or if you want something after shopping at park to shop (the grocery store next door). The service was fine, I don't really remember it so it didn't make a bit impact~ read more

Amazing! Loved these unique waffles. We each ate a sweet waffle with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Would definitely order from here again. These are fresh made waffles, which you can watch being created. If you love peanut butter, recommend either the Hong Kong Special or Peanut Butter Cup waffle. The ice cream tasted great on top of the warm waffle. Allow a few minutes for your waffle to be made. It's worth it! read more

Ambiance: I've been here 3 times now and absolutely love this place. It's a true family run business with the same husband-wife duo who moved from Hong Kong and serve some legit ball waffles. Their son is often there studying or playing games in the background and he's always super well behaved which is adorable. I've never seen these waffles in the midwest and usually have to get my fix when I visit my family in California. The place has a trendy atmosphere though, it's meticulously clean, and the wife who usually takes the orders is always so patient and friendly. Food: So far i've tried the peanut butter cup, mochi, traditional hong kong/peanut butter, and oreo waffles and have not been let down. I genuinely think you can't go wrong with any of their flavors. Even the plain waffles are amazing once you drizzle some chocolate and condensed mild on it. They do let you split flavors as well so you can try two flavors in one waffle if you ask nicely :D The chocolate ice cream scoop is also worth getting because it adds even more decadence and texture to the dessert, I was worried it would be cheap ice cream but it's actually rich with a slight chew to it that I love. Overall I highly recommend giving this place a try and supporting a great local business adding authentic Asian food to Cleveland! read more

Ball Ball Waffle is tucked inside of the Asian Plaza in Asiatown near the CSU campus. If you haven't explored the inside of the Asian Plaza, you should. It's the type of place that you only know if you know, and you'll find a number of great Asian shops inside - and it's attached to a fabulous pan-Asian supermarket called Park to Shop. Once inside, you'll find Ball Ball Waffle at the main intersection of shops. It is very small inside and run by a family who has their process honed to an exact science. They measure batter out to ensure the perfect amount goes into the waffle press and methodically tend to each waffle on the griddle, all the while making drinks and taking customer's orders. The name comes from the ball-shaped waffles that you'll order here. These waffles protrude in ball-shapes where you'd normally find an indentation. You can choose from three different types of batters (regular, chocolate, and matcha), and several different fillings (ranging from oreo to mochi to peanut butter to cheese). I've been twice now, and have tried the regular Hong Kong style which doesn't have filling but is drizzled with peanut butter sauce and condensed milk, as well as trying the "say cheese" (regular batter, cheese melted inside), which comes with a nice spicy mayo dip, and the peanut butter cup (regular batter, with peanut butter cups melted inside), which came topped with condensed milk. Far and away, in my opinion, the best has been the peanut butter cup, though all have been delicious. To pair with your waffle, you can get coffee, milk tea, and tea with coffee jellies inside. I recommend staying with a hot drink to compliment your hot waffle, but maybe that's just me. Take note that they open at noon, so this is a great spot to grab brunch or have your waffle serve as a lunch substitute. You should know that, because it's a mom and pop shop that is very popular, you'll wait a bit while they make your waffle to order. This means it'll come out piping hot, so every minute you wait is worth it. read more

Very convenient location for those who go to Park to Shop because it's right inside the plaza. Last time I was in Cleveland, the only place I could get the Hong Kong style egg waffle was at Mason's Creamery in the Tremont area. Since then, Cleveland has diversified its Asian food options, and Asia Plaza has opened up a place that serves this signature Hong Kong dessert. I came here with several of my Cleveland friends, as well as my fiance. It has a very nice ambience. There are a variety of ways to customize your egg waffle, as far as what you can put inside the egg waffle and also what you can put on top of it (e.g. ice cream). Additionally, Ball Ball Waffle also has the option of ordering Hong Kong style lemon iced tea as well as Hong Kong style milk tea. I ended up getting a Hong Kong style lemon iced tea and a matcha mochi egg waffle. The Hong Kong style lemon iced tea tastes exactly like what I would have at Kee Wah or a Hong Kong cafe in the San Gabriel Valley. I did ask for half sugar, which I think helped, as I don't like my drinks too sweet. The matcha mochi egg waffle was made to order, and the addition of matcha on the outside and mochi on the inside made it a super tasty dessert. The condensed milk drizzle also added to the Hong Kongness of the treat. An amazing addition to Asiatown plaza, and another option to get this classic Hong Kong style dessert that has been heavily modified and diversified in the past few decades. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to try authentic Hong Kong style dessert. read more

Ball Ball Waffle - Matcha mochi egg waffle, delicious!!! - Hong Kong Style Cafe Near Me - Cleveland, Ohio

So having heard about Ball Ball I had to give them a try. Located in the middle of the Asiatown Plaza in a small storefront is Ball Ball Waffle. They have taken the space and added some nice touches, including the white tile walls in the kitchen area, the rough hewn wood counter and the "Ball" letters on the wall. The menu has a number of sweet waffles, a couple of savory waffles and drinks. Having stopped by twice I have tried both a sweet and a savory waffle. The waffles are kind of the reverse of what we are used to, instead of a thick waffle with indents, Ball Ball makes waffles that are thicker balls connected by thinner batter. My first time I got one of the traditional waffles topped with condensed milk and peanut butter to which I added a scoop of chocolate ice cream. The waffle is made into a sort of cone and served in a cup with the ice cream in the middle. Although a bit difficult to eat with the ice cream, it tasted really good, the waffle is mildly sweet with a firm outside and soft inside. The waffle serves as a good canvas on which they can paint the other flavors to make a small masterpiece. The cheese waffle was interesting, as the waffle batter is still a bit sweet and contrasts nicely with the cheese that has been caramelized by the waffle iron. Served flat, this is easier to eat as you can just pull off individual balls. Ball Ball is well worth a visit if you are looking for a snack, light meal or something sweet. The waffles are a bit softer then the traditional American style waffle. Be aware that the hours are limited with the shop open from 11am - 4pm most days. Would love if they were open later in the day on the weekend so you could grab some waffles after dinner. read more

A hidden gem located inside Asian Plaza. Just look for the Li Wah sign, and it's going to be inside the same building. The owners are actually from Hong Kong based on their appearance. They sell milk teas and bubble egg waffles. The bubble egg waffles are their actual specialties though. I had their mochi mochi bubble waffle. It was delicious. They make the waffle in front of you, and it's still warm by the time they hand it to you. Each bubble on the waffle contained a piece of mochi, which gave the waffle a more chewy texture. The waffles from here are a perfect dessert-not too sweet, and perfect for winter weather. The waffles are perfect for summer weather if you add a scoop or two of ice cream on top. The milk tea is decent. They use actual condensed milk rather than milk powder like most bubble tea places. I still wouldn't get the milk tea again though. The tea flavor is too weak for my liking. read more

Egg waffle is one of my favorite snack when I grew up in HK. In Columbus, we don't have any place that are designate to HK style café/dessert. However, I discovered this place in Cleveland and can finally get my HK style milk tea craving fix. This little shop is located within Asia Plaza, which is the same plaza where I usually grab some Dim Sum from Li Wah. Outside the shop, they have fully descriptive menu along with picture. They have quite a variety of flavor and topping for the egg waffle, with a couples of beverage option as well. All the waffle is made to order and you will get your freshly made egg waffle in about 5 mins. When the egg waffle get off the waffle maker, they will place it to the cooling rack and the egg waffle will went through a cool air breeze. This will enhance and maintain the crispiness of the crust. Also, the inner part just have the enough amount of batter and a touch of gooeyness. The HK style milk tea have the prefect richness from the black tea, along with the creaminess from the evaporated milk. Beside egg waffle, they also have egg tart and ice cream as well. This is totally wroth the drive and the mini road trip down to Cleveland. I would highly recommend Ball Ball Waffle if you are craving for some HK style milk tea or egg waffle. read more

Waffles taken up a notch. I had the savory bacon and cheese and my friend had the sweet chocolate with Reese's peanut butter cups. The waffle shape is unusual - hexagonal rather than square, and the openings themselves form small balls (hence the name) rather than square. The chef fills the bottom grid with batter, sprinkles the filling on, then pours more batter over it before closing the lid. The result is a crispy ball waffle filled with your choice of sweet or savory filling. Mine came with a tasty somewhat spicy sauce - excellent - and my friend's with chocolate syrup drizzled on top then a dusting of powdered sugar. The proprietor was very friendly, answering all our questions as he made the waffles. I appreciated that when I asked for Milk Tea he pointed out that it was very strong, saving this decaf drinker a night of uneasy sleep. This unpretentious shop is inside of Asia Plaza and adjacent to Park and Shop, a great Asian supermarket. So lots of interesting things to see and try. But the waffles alone are worth a trip. read more

This place is located next to Li Wah (Chinese restaurant) and Park to shop (Asian Grocery Store). I came here to get dessert after eating at Li Wah just like half of the customers there. They make Hong Kong style waffle as you can see in the photo. It is different in a sense that they add toppings inside the waffle rather than outside. I got the matcha mochi waffle ($7), but they forgot to put condensed milk since they were really busy. I ended up eating it without it, and it was still good. I don't know if I will come back again as it takes a long time for them to make it! But worth a try if you are around the plaza. read more

I'll be honest. I went for the cute instagram photo so I'm not really that disappointed...lol The ice cream is basic and the waffle taste like a waffle. There is really nothing special about it. A solid addition to the Asiatown plaza! It's right between Li Wah and Park to Shop, so a great place for dessert after dimsum/grocery shopping. There's also plenty of free parking nearby. I thought the flavors were pretty authentic to HK street food. The waffle was airy, light, and not overly sweet. The iced coffee was also one of the closest to what I've tasted in Hong Kong. I liked how everything is made to order so all the food is fresh. However, the restaurant is pretty small so it can easily get crowded and loud. Definitely not good for big parties unless you have another place to eat. Also, I thought the prices were a little on the high side. read more

Awesome little spot. Went with a friend for a Sunday afternoon snack. We both loved this place. The couple behind the counter were very attentive and helpful. We both ordered waffles with ice cream - one plain waffle with strawberry and another plain waffle with cookies and cream. It was all delicious - especially the strawberry ice cream (it has real strawberries in it). I'd never had bubble waffles before, but I guess it's really popular in Hong Kong and I can see why. It's really fun to eat, the waffle soaks up the ice cream in a really awesome way. read more

I was super excited to learn that Cleveland finally has a bubble waffle place so I had to stop by to check it out! The place is located conveniently in the plaza next to Park to Shop, very cute atmosphere with inviting decor and friendly staff. I was hoping to order the traditional bubble waffle, but was sadly informed that they were out of the sweet batter used for both the traditional and the Hong Kong flavors. So we ended up ordering the mega chocolate flavor ($6, chocolate waffle with chocolate drizzle) and the matcha mochi flavor ($7, matcha waffle filled with mochi cakes). The mochi added such a nice texture and I quite enjoyed the matcha mochi waffle, while the chocolate waffle was less impressive. Both waffles were a bit too dense and spongy for my taste. It also seemed like they have some kinks to iron out - they ended up remaking one of the waffles since the first one fell apart. Overall, cute place and decent bubble waffles at a good price. read more
