3 piece perch dinner with fries.
    Shawn T.

Overall okay. Not great. I had the 3 piece perch, it was a bit dry; but okay, the fries was great. Wife had the chicken Philly, she said chicken Philly was decent; but dry; maybe a special sauce could moisten it up a bit. I would probably go back for the cheesecake or a steak Philly.

The food was outstanding across the board, and the service was attentive, professional, and on point throughout the evening. The only minor hiccup involved our seating. We had reserved a table on the patio, which is usually the perfect place to dine. Unfortunately, the weather turned out to be a bit cooler than expected. By the time we were finishing our main courses, it had become too cold to fully enjoy the outdoor setting. We had inquired earlier about moving inside, but the restaurant was unable to accommodate us at that time due to capacity. Thankfully, they were able to find us a table indoors for dessert, which we greatly appreciated. That turned out to be the perfect ending to the evening, as the desserts were every bit as impressive as the rest of the meal. Overall, this was an excellent dining experience with outstanding food and service. The weather was the only thing that kept it from being absolutely perfect, and the staff did their best to make things right. We would happily return.

Interesting mix of textures and flavors. Pretty good but probably wouldn't get again. 3.5/5 The staff mentioned that the red curry mussels ($17) was a popular dish, and it was the favorite of the night. I usually don't like mussels but the sauce was super flavorful and the mussels were tender. 5/5 Never had a bone-in pork schnitzel ($42) and while it was pricey, it was quite the size. Definitely couldn't finish all of it, so had leftovers to take back. 4/5 Service was decent, good recommendations. Small cozy atmosphere. Parking available as free street parking. Overall a little pricey but nice food in a cozy place.

Eight years worth of Fairmount moments later, this review is well overdue. AMBIANCE: The ambiance allows you to slow down and enjoy your company. The restaurant is dim lit, has fireplaces, and loungey atmosphere. It somehow feels warm and I heard a lot of people refer to it as a second home (people are always so friendly here!). There is ample space - three bars, main dining space, and huge outdoor oasis bar. Nestled in Cedar Fairmount neighborhood, you'll also be able to enjoy historic neighborhood. There are seating arrangements if you're craving company or want to enjoy your date. Seating options include couches by the fireplace, tables, and high tops. Fairmount is delightful during every season. During the summer you can enjoy the bar and patio. In the winter you can dine at the igloos. I prefer all seasons here. FOOD/DRINKS: The menu at Fairmount is impressive and has exciting seasonal/weekly additions. You'll never get bored. The cocktails here are refined, very boozy, and very well crafted. The food is seriously delicious, and consistent every single time. I've been impressed with every dish. The dishes and drinks frequently follow the seasons. During my latest visit I enjoyed Butter Pecan Warm Cider with bourbon ($12, so bold and boozy, tastes like fall). I also ordered Fig Trouble Little China ($15, a more rich version of Old Fashioned, so delicious). I also tasted Short Rib & Risotto for the very first time ($28, such a delicious dish, every bite was just amazing). My favorites? Ah, so hard! I'll go with the Fairmount Burger! It's angus beef burger with bacon-fig chutney. It's so delicious! I can't even be serious about meat at the other burger places, this is easily the best burger in the city. My seasonal favorite? Kevin McCallister seasonal drink that resembles coquito or eggnog. The drink is topped with rice paper that includes the design of Kevin from Home Alone. It's such a fun tradition! I look forward to this drink all year and always tell the world about it! SERVICE: The service is excellent. I haven't been anywhere where service is right on point every single time. Everyone is nice - the owner, hosts, and waitstaff. You truly feel seen and like the most important guest. I've visited previously while on dates and frequently dine here solo, always had the most pleasant service. EVENTS: Many people book events here for their non-profits or companies. As far as individual events, Fairmount hosts a fun NYE party every year! PARKING: Onsite parking lot is available at the back of the building. You can enter through the front doors on Cedar or right through the parking lot door. There are numerous reasons why I love the Fairmount. I consider it to be the best dining experience in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood of Cleveland Heights. I also love how the owner Jake is very engaged in the community and is incredibly friendly with the surrounding business owners. I'll choose this place again and again for calming ambiance, crafted cocktails, and delicious food. To many more years of Fairmount and at Fairmount!

Parking was easy to find with both parking in the square and behind the building. We were immediately sat down without a reservation on a Saturday morning. It did take our server a minute to take our order but after that drinks and food came out in a timely matter. I was not a fan of the strawberry mimosa as it was syrupy if I can call it that. Very thick. My boyfriend and I had the CBC Cheesesteak Omelet and I'm usually hesitant with omelets but it was so good. Just the right balance of eggs, meat and veggies. The grits were good and I didn't have to add any salt or sugar. The biscuit was just a regular biscuit, there was nothing spectacular about it. The potatoes were also really good, my first time having purple sweet potatoes and I was not disappointed. I would recommend and return.

We ordered the chicken & waffles and the peach pecan pancakes. My wife had a coffee and I did something unusual and had a glass of pineapple juice. The coffee was solid and the pineapple juice was not the cheap stuff. It wasn't artificially colored, thin junk. It was like they juiced a pineapple. They may have. I don't know. The food arrived and we were so excited because it looked delicious. Kayt stuck her fork in the chicken and, I kid you not, juice shot out of the chicken and arched up into the air and landed on the table. She was kind enough to share a couple bites, and this was some tasty, juicy, perfectly seasoned chicken. Her potatoes and the waffle were great too. My peach pecan waffles were great too. The pancakes were more like a sheet cake. They weren't as sweet as sheet cake though, which was perfect because the peaches and the syrup added plenty of sweetness. Overall, we were super pleased. With tip, it cost about $60-65. A bit on the expensive side, but ok for an occasional splurge. My wife says it's the best chicken & waffles she's ever had.

Very sadly, I just saw that the two other locations are closing immediately, just 1 day after our Valentine's Day dinner at the Larchmere location - now officially, the only one left standing. The Lakewood Barroco was in my top 5 favorite restaurants in all of Cleveland and I am super bummed. I hope this last location will stay open for a very long time. As for the Barroco food, it was superb. We went all out and tried a few things on the menu. We aren't big drinkers but I sipped on a strawberry mojito with lots of real strawberries throughout ($14) and my bf enjoyed the "Iguana," a pretty little rum cocktail ($12). We shared the shrimp device and tostones appetizer ($18). The tostones reminded me of a structurally sound latke, or potato pancake! Our shrimp ceviche was doused in lemon juice and mixed with lots of healthy vegetables. This was large enough to be an entree for a healthy eater! However, we still had lots of room in our tummies and we each got our own main dish. I stuck to the arepa and yucca fries combo I love so much, although I switched it up and ordered a different arepa than my usual. I liked my "Ropa Vieja," or braised beef arepa ($22), fine but I prefer my usual pulled pork arepa much much more. The braised beef arepa was like a sloppy Joe in an arepa. Made for pretty good leftovers though! My beloved was feeling adventurous and treated himself to a nice and fatty cut of the Carne Asada and Calentado entree ($38). After tax and tip, our bill was a hefty $130 for the two of us. I'd say that the food, the service, and the ambiance made it worth it though and I hope it continues to stay open so we can come back!!

Wife's spinach pie with muenster cheese ($11.85) was flaky and generous with the fillings. Loved my $3 phosphate. Tucked between the polished neighborhood staples -- cafés, plant shops, nail salons -- sits a true greasy spoon time capsule. No frills. No aesthetic branding strategy. Just counter seating, booths, and the immediate understanding that when you walk in the door... you're in it. There's no waiting lounge. No curated entry experience. Just breakfast. It feels like stepping into another era -- back when servers wore white coats and diner hats and coffee cups were never empty for long. And let's talk numbers. Even in today's economy, entrées don't cross the $11 mark -- and that includes the double-portion Benedicts in the center of the menu. For those of us who don't eat meat, it's a surprisingly easy compromise spot. Stiff coffee with free refills? $2.50. Orange juice? $2.50. A fully loaded vegetarian cheese omelet -- mushrooms, onions, green peppers, tomato -- with home fries and whole wheat toast? $10.75. While we sat there, talking through life over coffee, it hit me: this meal cost about the same as someone else's single pastry and specialty latte down the street. And I left full. Not trendy-full. Not "small plates" full. Real breakfast full. Sometimes the best things aren't free -- they're just reasonable. Familiar. Nostalgic. The kind of places that don't need reinvention because they already got it right the first time. YE Gurl says: Big Al's is where you go when you want breakfast without a performance. Solid food. Strong coffee. Honest prices. A little slice of yesterday that still holds up today. And honestly? That's better than reality TV drama any morning.
